Was a member at this branch for several years, attempted to cancel on their website but the website would not allow me to cancel. Eventually sent a message to this branch to ask to cancel that was never responded to. They are now charging me for an extra month when I am no longer living in the state after being a member in good standing for several years. The daytime pool time for adults without children who do not lap swim is very limited - approx 42 minutes. Will try Goffstown branch in the near future. The 18 plus women's locker room is dark and gloomy. Makes it difficult to look forward to going to this site. No warm water pool or spa at this location. Disappointing! read more

It's said to say this about a non-profit, but this unfortunately has to be shared. We had a family membership for almost three years and thought nothing of double checking our accounts in case of foul play. They were on auto-pilot, and the Y doesn't send out statements. Unless we looked into the details of our bank accounts, we wouldn't see any mistakes. After 2.5 years, I was going over my bank transactions and discovered the Y was changing us twice, once to each card on file. Two credit card statements made it difficult to make it obvious. An error on my art I am willing to own up to, but nonetheless, the second membership had no activity on it, making it obvious on the Y's side that it wasn't being used. It seems the miscommunication came from signing up both of our daughters in the beginning, but cancelling one membership because she decided there wasn't;t anything of interest for her. I spoke to the front desk, filled out their paperwork and never though another thing about it. The account was never actually canceled. Whoever was responsible to push through the paperwork wasn't;t around to do so. Therefore, the account was kept active, and continued to be charged. I brought this to the attention of the Y- speaking to one of their part-time front desk staff who said she would let the director of operations know the info. Feeling I could be treated fairly and with respect, I agreed politely. Soon after, maybe an hour or so, I received an email from the director saying they would/could only refund us for this month and the last month, and that bank statements were their receipts. I took this to believe that it was all my fault they didn't;t cancel the account. Honestly, I think a conversation with the customer would have been in order before any decision was made, but I'm letting the bones rest where they lay. This Y has always been poorly run and staffed, with constant bickering between the different elements of the facility. This doesn't come from a place of retribution from what has occurred, but simply an honest statement about the Concord Y's environment. It is a negative environment, and so I regretfully cancelled our family membership (the only one we used.) Simply be aware- members' interests are not a concern at this facility. read more

A couple of parents/guardians along with I myself have discussed concerns about pool safety and etiquette. For the most part, the young adults and teens that I often see on Thursdays and Saturdays seem to do their jobs decently well although I am more concerned with the supervisors and the profanity that I, and other parents and children(!) have been subject to hearing. One young woman who teaches lessons and seems to be some sort of a supervisor is specifically concerning. The conversations she has with the young male lifeguards who can't be older than 14 or 15 are wildly inappropriate, ranging from her own romantic relationship with her own colleague(!) to her sexual experiences with him as well as others (yes she talks about this often and well within earshot of me). The lifeguard(s) on duty as well as parents like me are subject to listening while young children are near. Not only am I concerned for our kids, but I'm concerned for the teen guards who are clearly uncomfortable. You would think that a supervisor wouldn't distract guards on duty, let alone force them to listen to such inappropriate stories. This must be some form of workplace harassment, as I can't count how many times I've overheard these conversations and I pity the young guards that are exposed to this. Although I don't know her name, the supervisor should really learn workplace manners and common respect for those around her as well as self control considering her flagrant disregard for any responsibility and consideration for the kids, their parents, and her own subordinates. read more

I wasn't going post a review until I saw how ridiculous some of the other reviews were. I've been a member for almost 3 years, am in my 20s and have used the weight room, cardio room, small/big gym, and classes. Everyone that works here is friendly and helpful. The place is kept clean, and everything you need is generally accessible. The weight room and cardio room are on the smaller side but they are totally fine for the amount of members and have a good variety of equipment. The classes they offer are all great, I did yoga there weekly - really passionate instructor. Other reviews make This place out to be horrible, not the case. Totally normal fitness club, good value, good amenities, and the people who are members here are normal people which is a nice change from some of the more corporate gyms like planet fitness or fitness edge. read more

I've been a member for years and I can't believe a lot of these low ratings. This is a nice place with good people. The facilities are clean, in good order, and bright. There's an extensive and diverse offering of classes, and plenty of space in the many locker rooms. The equipment is modern, and members are entitled to several free sessions with a personal trainer. The pool is clean and is well-organized to accommodate the needs of various patrons (family swim, lap swim, etc). Teachers are outgoing and lead challenging and multilevel classes. I look forward to going to the Y and recommend it highly. read more

Overall, this YMCA is not bad. Although the weight room is small, there also aren't many members so waiting for machines isn't too bad. The staff is generally friendly and kind, as well. However, there is one aspect you should be aware of if you are ever considering working here- specifically as a lifeguard or swim instructor. My child has been a lifeguard at the Concord YMCA for almost two years now. Every week she stresses over payroll because they change her hours so that she isn't getting paid for how much she has been working. It is unfair, illegal, and causes lots of distress on her end because they edit her work times without letting her know why. They are cheating her out of money with no explanation. Another problem with her job, where is her boss? She has tried to come in contact with her direct superior on several occasions, in fact she has not even seen her boss in a couple of months. There are always excuses that her boss posts- such as her baby is sick (again.) or her sister is visiting or whatever it may be. My daughter tried to get her CPR cards from her boss, and went over a month trying with no success. Props to the head lifeguard who carries the workload, as well as the other administrators. No one should have to work at an institution where their boss can't bother to show up during a normal weekday, for absurd and repetitive reasons. Finally, there needs to be some kind of private parking. No teenager should be walking to the roof of a public parking garage at 9:45 at night after closing the pool. It is dangerous. I hope this review was helpful for any of you considering working here. You have to be really desperate to do that, because the concord YMCA aquatics is probably the worst place you could work. I do want to note once more that, besides the workforce as a lifeguard, this YMCA is great and that most of the people are not as irresponsible as the boss in aquatics. Thank you. read more

My friend doesn't have a membership, but we were using my five dollars for each five time you go. They let us in after my friend paid. Then we got to the gym, and the next thing you know. The staff is coming over to get us and say that my friend isn't a member and can't stay. They kicked us out after letting us in. This is an awesome YMCA! If you've ever been to a YMCA you know what to expect, but this one has a great environment to go with the great amenities. I am a member of the Boston Wang YMCA and can use the Concord Family YMCA through my reciprocal membership - I get full access, the same as I get back in Chinatown! I mainly use the weight room, which is well stocked. It has more than a Planet Fitness but maybe less than a Golds Gym. They have a great selection of benches, barbells, free weight dumbbells, adjustable benches, towers and cable machines. There is also a separate room for Nautilus weight machines and another room for cardio. There is cycling, an aerobics studio, a squash court, climbing wall, and a pool - haven't used these yet but want to try them sometime. I'm not here often (usually down in Boston) so I'm not really part of the Y community, but from what I can tell it is pretty vibrant. There are always classes, parties, personal training, camps, swim lessons, and other community events. I find this to be a great gym for myself, but if I lived here full-time or had kids in the area I would definitely start looking into participating in more of the community activities. read more

Staff does not not follow court ordered parenting plans and will not call the "correct" parent to pick up sick children. It's incredibly nerve wracking knowing you dropped your child off at summer camp thinking they are there all day and then learning from the children that the camp called and released them to a non-custodial parent without your knowledge even after providing them with the unchanged parenting plan for three consecutive years. read more

This is a good place with a lot to offer for your membership dollars - lots of classes, equipment, and services. Unfortunately, in the constellation of all the things I do, places I go, and people I encounter, this is the only place where I have had unpleasant experiences. - with other members as well as staff - not a lot, but it just should not happen. I have found that it doesn't pay to be open, friendly, and considerate. It's mostly about territoriality, especially in the pool. That area is overscheduled. I doubt that there is a solution short of a larger pool, so we can forget that. Just keep your head down and you'll be fine. I joined several months ago and have been going regularly several times a week. I am finding it to be a pretty robust operation with four floors of options. The weight room is well equipped with plenty of free weights, barbells, cable machines, etc. I like that it has a convenient downtown location within easy walking distance of my home. I also like that it is open in the evening, as this is the best time for me to work out. And I appreciate that I receive a discount in my membership dues through my state health insurance. read more

A real life gym, all the pepople are every day pepople. The trainers are people who committed their life to fitness and want to pass their knowledge on to others. I've been there for eight years and I never have committed to do anything for that length of time. I am a better person for being a member and a volenteer at this awesome YMCA........there are no phoniness, no gimmicks, just great people with real life backgrounds in the health department. Very dark and dreary. Not very welcoming. No one to show us around. Pool looked nice, but would not go there to workout.

They require 3 months of automatic payment withdrawal before cancelling membership . Also make extremely inconvenient by requiring 30 day warning that you are cancelling to avoid being charged the following month. read more

Enrolling my son in the YMCA preschool is a decision I will regret for the rest of my life! Staff were not attentive, for example they were drinking coffee and talking to one another instead of greeting the kids at drop off. Also, a high staff turnover rate. My son's teacher left approximately 3 months into the year and a replacement was not quickly found. Support staff also seemed to come and go. Behavior management on the part of the teaching staff and administration was terrible to non-existent. I would venture to say that they actually did psychological harm to my son in terms of how his misbehavior was handled, actually inciting the undesirable behaviors. Please save your child and find another preschool, save yourself this guilty feeling I fear I'll carry for some time. read more
