Located inside the timeout market, that is next to the water and close to the Prado De Comercio, it is a small sushi shop. Timeout in general though is a must see in general for any Lisbon bucket list, so stop by and decide whether or not you want sushi! It has really good sushi, and there's a lot of variety on the menu. I figured that if you're in Portugal, you need to get seafood in any variety, including sushi. The sushi was very good and very fresh. For the price it was also reasonable because it's cheap cheaper than what you could get in the US. My only complaint is I wish the menu was easier to understand. I am not a sushi expert, so there were different names of rolls that I didn't understand like Fotu Maki. It was fine though, because the waiter explained to me what each term meant and what was on the menu, but it would've been helpful to have that listed. You can sit anywhere inside the timeout market. And there's around 500 where the seating inside the market. If you leave your tray on the table too, it gets taken by a worker. read more

The sushi is AMAZING!!!!! Out of this world fresh. I was blown away. The sushi is on par with sushi from Japan. The plating was gorgeous, and the taste was even better. I was in Portugal 3 days and ate here twice. Get the combo two, the cones, and the tuna belly w/ caviar -- amazing. Loved it. Will be back. We visited Lisbon back in September and accidentally stumbled upon this amazing sushi restaurant in the middle of the city center close to Tagus River. Oh my Goodness, not only was it delicious, but also the ambiance and the design of the restaurant - so unique for a typical sushi joint!!! We are sushi connoisseurs, even our kids started eating seafood and raw fish at the age of 12 months, so our expectations were high. We have such standards for quality of seafood as our favorite US sushi restaurant is SugarFish by Sushi Nozawa that is located in NYC and Los Angeles. We were pleasantly surprised at how fresh everything was at Confraria. The delicious appetizers, including the beet dip with carrots, that was a special treat they bring you that only costs a few euros. When we walked in, there was only 1 table occupied, which seemed a bit odd, however, it was also later in the afternoon. A few minutes later we were happy that no one else was there as we received an exceptional service from our waitress and the chef kept making accommodations for us by substituting certain fish for tuna instead (we are not fans of raw salmon). The cone appetizers were to die for. Nigiri, sashimi and the remaining rolls were all 10/10. All menu items tasted so incredible we ordered the 2nd round. Stopped at Contraria based on a friend's recommendation. It was Sunday around 8 pm & the restaurant was empty. Dinner does start later out here and it was a beautiful day. More of a casual upscale feel to the dining area. Decided to sit at the bar & ordered the Caipirinha (Brazilian Cocktail) which was recommended by my friendly bartender. It was perfect & refreshing after my long walk and exploring Lisbon. I wanted to try the food but not have a meal so it was between the Carpaccio 7 herbs or LX roll starters. My server suggested, instead, trying one of the Contraria originals-Furikake as it would pair the best with my Caipirinha. He was right. Shrimp Tempura was excellent with sauce & lime balancing the flavors nicely. I found out they also have another location at Mercado da Ribeira (Time Out Market). I'll put out the disclaimer that I don't know how the sushi scene is in Portugal overall, but as someone visiting from New York and in need of a palette cleanser - this did the trick. This pretentious place is a scam. My girlfriend was drinking the whole day. She fell in the chair and I got embarrassed and acted like I didn't know her all too well even though we've known each other for 5 years. Anyway I tried to get them to take the Confraria sashimi/sushi sampler that was €32 off the bill because we had to leave early to get her home and they still made me pay for it. It was the best decision ever! I had the chef's combo, which basically gave the chef the liberty to give me 16 pieces of whatever he or she wanted. Everything I had was divine! There was a great mix of sushi rolls, nigiri, and sashimi. There was an incredible balance of flavor and texture in everything I had, which was lovely. Amazing sushi. We tried the lx lux tempura and the skin and seviche. The first and the last was mind blowing, soft and tender. They don't really use wasabi? Which is a little odd - but the sushi is so good that you don't care. The service was not so good. The waiter was slow in indifferent. She had to be waved over, and when we asked to see menus, she just said okay. She never got them for us, we had to get them ourselves while she was talking to other staff. That said I don't necessary think that's a general thing for their staff. There was another very quick and nice waiter. read more

Being a huge fan of sushi I decided to try confraria lx given its good reviews from yelp. We decided to go for dinner around 8pm in the middle of the week with no reservation. The restaurant had only a few people so we even got to choose the table. An hour later, the place was half full. There was much to choose from the menu but we decided to go for the chef's platter for two people. Everything was delicious! It was a combo of sushi with some sashimi pieces of tuna and salmon. For desert we got the green tea ice cream which was very creamy and tasty. Taking pictures was almost impossible due to the very low light of the restaurant (and i understood they want to keep it that way). The noise level was moderate to low. I wasn't overly impressed but it's a great place to have good quality sushi with some fusion to it. If you are bothered by the low light then i recommend you come during daylight. read more

I would believe it if someone told me this is the best sushi in Lisbon. The fish was super fresh but they only seemed to have 3 kinds of raw fish: salmon, tuna, and white fish. I also noticed this in Paris too. The salmon and tuna were probably the most fresh I've ever tasted. The salmon melts in your mouth. Most dishes are similar to what you can get in Japan or the US, nothing special. I would say the only dish that is unique and worth trying is the carpaccio with 7 spices. It was only 10 euros and truly felt like a fusion dish. Service was slow but good. I would get a couple dishes here and move on to another restaurant for dinner part 2 :) read more

Five star spot here, the ambiance is pretty good with dimmed lights and romantic. As for the food, you can pick anything on the menu and you'll pretty much like everything, I recommend the LX roll since it's a Chef's special and it's an unusual roll. The drinks are really good too! read more

This is the perfect location if you are looking to sit in cramped seats at kindergarten sized tables and then wait 40 minutes to order a drink, only to have them serve you the wrong order. The sushi was quite good once it arrived but nobody on the wait staff--from the host to the server to the busser--seemed to know that they were doing. Don't ask any questions about the menu or you will scare away the staff and they won't return for another half hour or so. And then they will fuck up your order again. It's a pretty restaurant that has no idea how to manage itself. Also, the bathroom doors don't close easily, leaving the occupants visible to patrons in an overpriced sushi joint. I kinda just felt bad for our waitress who clearly hadn't been trained to do anything. We ordered hot sake which came out cold. When we alerted her to this she brought back the same small sake (no refill) at just above room temperature and then charged us for the expensive cold sake we didn't order. Again, the food was tasty once it arrived but after two hours in this place I wanted to commit Seppuku. Or maybe satsujin. read more
