I felt so at home and comfortable every time I was there. It was a very happy atmosphere. The message was of love. I got that! Her comforting phone calls to me were immeasurably helpful. There are no bounds to her spirit, kindness, compassion and empathy. Some people have a special ability to immediately connect to others. They know what to say and how to help; Cantor Margaret is one of them. My thanks to her and to the Temple Beth El community during a very difficult time.

Although demographically I don't feel like I totally "fit" (single, early 30's) this is home to me…read more The congregation is warm and welcoming, Rabbi Schulman is everything you'd want your Rabbi to be, and despite moving and trying other congregations I still travel from Dublin back to Fremont when I need to re-center myself. If you're over the age of 50 or have a young family you'll fit in nicely. After attending services here off and on for 15 years this is home. Compared to other reform congregations TBT seems a bit on the conservative side, which I personally like. This is a culturally diverse, open minded community that still is very strongly attached to its heritage and tradition, a perfect blend. I don't have kids yet, but I can very much see myself raising them in this community.

Even though we live in Emeryville, we make the trip down there for High Holy Day services and CJC's Passover seder (and mean to go more often for Shabbat services and other holidays as well). We'd shopped around quite a bit before we joined CJC. The reason we make the trek instead of just joining a congregation closer to home is that the community is the one that most closely mirrors our Jewish values: welcoming to all in every category (age, sexual orientation/gender identity, race, interfaith, etc.); joyous; deeply spiritual; relaxed; unpretentious; and more. In addition, CJC's spiritual leaders -- Jhos, the maggid, and Julie, the chazan -- are absolutely the best at illuminating Jewish spirituality and how it relates to people's everyday lives. (A side note: Jhos and Julie performed our wedding, which is how we found out about CJC in the first place. I had first enjoyed Jhos's teachings at Chochmat HaLev in Berkeley.) Jhos is an amazing storyteller and spiritual leader, and Julie has the most beautiful voice. CJC is full of terrific music and very warm people. CJC doesn't have its own place, so services take place at a few different churches in the Pacifica/Half Moon Bay area. Check the website for different locations. If you're shopping around for a congregation, CJC might be the one for you too. It's worth the trip.

Rabbi Daniel Pressman is extremely kind. Growing up in an interfaith family, I found it a bit of a challenge attending service here because the holy books are mostly in Hebrew and I was used the the holy books in the reform temples/synagogues that had the English translations. I've had the pleasure of attending Shabbat Services and dinners at Congregation Beth David. If you're of the Conservative Jewish faith this is a great place to attend services.

In particular, the religious school, pre-K and family ed programs have all improved so much over the last decade that I now feel comfortable giving them a strong endorsement to friends who ask. Another thing that I really like about Beth David is that the Rabbis, the Board and (most of) the congregation make a real effort to try to live their values. This is a place where being a good person counts more than how much money you make or how you dress. These are people that I feel I can turn to in a crisis (or simcha) and get genuine support.

We are also in agreement with the philosophy of the conservative movement, and really appreciate this egalitarian and diverse congregation. We evaluated several synagogues in the Bay Area, and definitely preferred Kol Emeth!
