Emailed Connie's Pond & Koi on 6/6/25 via their email on the website, asking if they sell Shubunkin goldfish. I got a reply from Hank stating they have Shubunkin goldfish in stock. The reply back was, "Yes, we have in stock." So the next day I drive all the way from the Central Valley to check out their Shubunkin stock. To my dismay, I'm told by an older man at the back store that they don't have any Shubunkin goldfish. I told him that I emailed Hank and he said you had them. The man then tried to sell us on Koi, but we told him we specifically need Shubunkin since we have many plants in our pond and the Koi would eat them, that's why we specifically are looking for Shubunkin goldfish. He then directed us to some Comet goldfish but not what we were looking for. Tried to look at the plants and other fish but the thought of me being lied to and driving that distance from the Central Valley was too much, so we left. This company was deceitful just to lure us into their facility. If they could lie about a simple straight forward question what other things would they lie about just to get you to buy something. Would not go back again! Will be searching for a trustworthy Shubunkin goldfish dealer elsewhere. What a way to deceive a potential customer. read more

You will be sleeping with the fishes This isn't something you want to hear; unless you plan on going to Connie's Pond & Garden this is such a cute shop, It's a bit of a indoor and outdoor shop; they have a ton of supply's to buy for all your pet fish needs. They have a ton of really cool koi ponds and fishes and different add ons. But honest what I really love about this place is they let me walk my dog in the outside of there store. My dog loves to see the fishes. She always wags her tail like crazy. The people who work here I'm sure are not marketing for people like me. I don't even own any fishes. I can't even keep my carnival gold fish alive; so I just come here to check out all the cool products and awesome looking fish they have for sale. They are all about the gold fish and the koi. It's one of those really cool places to visit even if you don't own any fish and it's located in Castro Valley. There is a ton of parking in the rear. My favorite place to park ask anyone. But The people who work here are also super friendly and very easy going. I was going to buy more fish and he undersold us so the fish would be ok and told us to come back once the ones be bought were settled. My plant I got from them was beautiful and in excellent condition. They have a huge selection of plants and I was impressed by the variety. I also was having issues with my pond and called a few times with questions. They were always helpful and offering free advice. They have a huge selection of pond equipment and food. This number & Connies is for the back part of the store (where all the fish are). The young gentleman that works there was super helpful helping us with our fancy goldfish. We've bought around 10 of them from Connies and some have developed swim bladder disease (not from where we bought it but because of us overfeeding them) and the guy was SO helpful. He gave a plethora of advice and information on how to handle the fish. He also tested our tank water which was super helpful!! Make sure to bring some water in so they can test it. This is my favorite pond store. I don't know of anywhere in this area that compares at all, unless you want to drive up to Cotati...and, long drive aside, I still prefer Connie's for a number of reasons. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful there. You may have to wait for help because they spend as much time as it takes on each customer. The staff also doesn't "crowd" you or try to pressure you into buying things -- they let you take your time looking around and enjoying the gorgeous koi, fancy goldfish (sarassa comets and shubunkin), and quality pond plants. That's the big reason to come, of course: The fish are gorgeous, healthy, and quite tame (except when freshly imported, of course), with a great selection. They have some very fine shubunkin and comets for those who don't want koi devouring their planted ponds. The plants are big, healthy, and also come in a good variety. Connie's also has fair prices on kink-free hose, rubber sheet, etc, and if you buy a lot they will often cut you a deal. They have a wide selection of plumbing parts, connectors, pumps, etc, and they will help you figure out what you need, swap out parts to get the right setup for you, and let you return things if, for example, you get the wrong size pump or connector or whatever. In other words, they care about helping you get things put together correctly and working right. I was referred here by a landscape designer, and I can see why. Few places offer this level of service and knowledge. If you need a deep consult, call ahead to make sure the owner will be there when you are planning on going by. He will hook you up. Finally, Connie's has all that other stuff for ponds -- additives and lighting and food and so on. Prices are average for that kind of stuff, although their generic-bagged koi food is nicely priced and the fishies love and thrive on it. read more

Just turn into the driveway to the right of Connie's Tropical Fish and go into the back parking lot and you'll see Connie's Pond and Garden. He even gives us some discounts which I so appreciate. My hubby built a koi pond from scratch digging and all. Just tremendous amount of work and hours...he felt into the pool while working on his skimmer and had a scratch. He says, now this pond has cost me sweat, pain, and blood! Hank gave us good advises and help along the way so our pond is looking pretty sharp now. Except we didn't treat the water (Angel is a very nice and helpful employee there but treating water conversation didn't come up) and put koi. I was SO SAD to find them dead a couple of hours later! These guys are great! I purchased a waterfall pump, they gave me a complete education in about 10 min on everything I needed pump related. Helped me get better plumbing set up. Have gone there for other pond related stuff and they have always been as helpful as possible. I call often asking advise, and as busy as they are, they always take time to answer my questions. Often we find solutions that are less expensive and easier than I thought . Even if the advise doesn't benefit them monetarily, like getting parts at a hardware store. They carry pumps, filters, liner material, liner tape, LAP sealant, cleaning solvents, piping, water plants, chemicals, medications and a million other things. They also have a great selection of gorgeous KOI in various sizes and water plants too. I was very impressed. The shop is sort of tucked away on a back street off the main drag but it's very easy to get to. Two things are holding Connie's back from a 5 star review, they don't have an operating website and their prices are a bit high. They are however very friendly. read more

Had a pond built for the back yard that is beautiful. A large, in ground filter was installed with a three year warranty from the manufacturer. After only one summer, both cleaning paddles fell off into the filter. When inspecting to see the problem, the UV light and shield broke ($ 200+). The supplier was contacted (under warranty) and they responded by sending two 50 cent screws to replace the ones that fell out!! Called Hank at Connie's Pond and Garden and explained what had happened. Hank said to bring it in and he would look at it. After looking at the problem, he replaced the entire top of the filter (motor, paddles, screws & the UV light and shield). Needless to say, he bailed me out of a really bad situation.
