Easy 5 stars with Louis introducing us to Koi pond world. I came in knowing absolutely nothing until Louis took us in like we were his next door neighbors! My wife is buying herself a pond for Father's Day! Being the harshest critic on the area of service on the planet, Louis is a service person's service person! THE right guy, at the right store. I absolutely loved his service mojo! I don't say that much, if ever! Your the best of the best Lou. The genuine article! I thought I had a pond vac stolen from my car that I rented from them. They could have charged me full retail price by it only charged me wholesale cost. On multiple occasions, I've felt ignored and treated rudely by the staff, leaving me empty-handed and frustrated. Lots of parking, right in front and also down the alley into the back. There are two stores (one in the front facing the main road and one in the back aka the garden center). The kois are mediocre, they are no where near high quality Japanese bred kois (most likely Japanese kois that were bred in the states). But to the average eyes, these will do perfectly fine. There aren't a lot of kois compared to other koi centric stores, possibly low stock due to the pandemic and shipping issues. They carry Malaysian kois, gold fishes (of all kinds), turtles, bullfrog tadpoles (2 for $10) and even white farm raised sturgeons ($160ish for 8-9 inches). Wished they carry bigger sturgeons and other types of freshwater fishes. They have the best selection of aquatic plants in the Bay Area, hardy Lillies in a gallon planter are about $60. The fish food selection was okay in terms of pricing, check online first. They carry helix and aqua scale products such as their filters, pumps and decors if you want to see them in person. The staffs are very knowledgeable and know their stuff. read more

If you have a pond in the East Bay, this absolutely needs to be your go to spot for all things pond and koi (and beyond). The staff is super helpful and honest. I don't feel like they try to upsell their products like some places might, they aim to keep things basic which I really appreciate given how much I have already spent just to get my pond up and running. They helped me with everything from the design to the math on filter, underlayment and liner, suggestions on pond contractors, and now with making sure my pond stays clear and balanced. I love their varieties of koi big and small and we even got a few turtles from them and other fish and plants. Great water plant selection as well! They do water testing though I would recommend they teach all their staff how to do this given I've had to wait really long amounts of time for the right person to test. read more

Hank and Juanita are excellent business owners and they help customers hands on . They have good quality products for waterfalls and koi ponds as well water plants and koi fish . Hank helped me choose my filtering system for my koi pond and I asked him way too many questions and he is always happy to help with his knowledge and experience. Juanita helps with a lot as well and will return your calls and e-mails very often . Koi ponds are not cheap but you get what you pay for and you invest in something that is amazing, nevertheless Hank always takes care of his customers with prices if the product allows him some room to discount it . Just did an a major upgrade of the filter system & replaced the old leaking concrete & cheap liner membrane with a rubbermade 150 half hard plastic one. Also got some double tail shubunkin & sarasa comet goldfish a week later. Another great thing is they have random parts for sale so instead of throwing things like pumps & filters away you can fix em. I just got off the phone with Hank 5 minutes ago. I am a fairly new to the world of Koi and after I finished building my backyard plan with my own two hands I began the search for plants and quality Koi as well as a place where I could get consolation and coaching. After searching in vain in the peninsula I discovered Connie's and when I walked into the store and into the koi and plant area I was grinning like a little kid at Disneyland. Incredible selection of aquatic plants of all species sizes colors and shapes. Josh was like my Koi Yoda taking the time and patience to help me learn and choose Koi correctly even pointing out what I would never have noticed. I have found the entire staff helpful, professional and generous. But todays phone call with Hank was the icing on the cake. I was upset that Connie's had sold me a pregnant fish that once she hit the pond created spawning chaos and almost violence. Trashed some plants and destroyed the water quality. After two water changes and many treatments I have the water perfectly balanced again and all my 11 fish are thriving. My conver and the reason I called Hank was that the big $600 mother fish was just laying around in the bottom not swimming. Could be stress or just exhaustion but I was concerned and considered returning her. This is an animal and not a laptop so I was not sure what Hank would say. He could not have been kinder or more accommodating. He spoke with me about possible causes and offered to take back the fish no questions asked. Also gave me the opportunity to take a few days and see if she improves if I like her and want to keep her. I am a very loyal enthusiastic customer Gene treated well and if you read my other reviews a terror on social media when not treated well and I have to say if I could give Connie's ten stars today I would and they will have my business exclusively for as long as I keep Koi. I just love this place. I bought beautiful and healthy fish and they have a great selection. My fish came very healthy and happy and I get complements on how beautiful they are. Even when the store was crowded they were patient with my family as we selected our new pets. Also, I had a sick fish (NOT from them) and I have come to this place multiple times and called at least 10 times trying to get her better. I lived in Danville and they are perfectly located in the East Bay within the Tri-Valley reasonable driving distance. They are family operated business in the area and I always do my best to support the local business compared to buying from Amazon or other online competitors. I always buy pond supplies from them, ask for Matt and he will hook you up for any pond equipments, supplies and fishes. Just mentioned Jon S sent you. I'm not the one to leave reviews but the people in charge need a lesson on how to do business. I spent well over $10,000 dollars building our pond here trying to stay local and I completely regret, I will never shop at this store again. We went in over the thanksgiving holiday and bought 3 fish totaling over $700. One of these fish had a messed up tail that we didn't see at the time but we noticed at the time of placing it in the water even have pictures in the bag. Fast forward a week and it's just gotten worse the fish is still alive but it's only a matter of days before it dies. We contacted them to see what to do. I was told to email some pictures and video so I did and two days later I had to reach out again to get a reply. Was completely surprised by the reply. Hank has the audacity to say it's our fault because we selected the fish not his employee. He then goes on to say they will swap it on one condition, Only if our water tests perfectly. knowing the only fish with an issue is the one that was messed up to begin with. They sound like the car dealer trying to deny warrantee work saying "you picked that one not us". I highly suggest taking your money elsewhere they are over priced and have poor customer service. In reply to Hanks garbage reply on Google, he was on the phone blaming me because "we told his employee what one to get" And I Quote "did you pick the fish" my employee says you are the one that selected the fish mind you grey fish in a black tank (that sure sounds like a crap excuse) From the minute he picked up the phone he was blaming us from saying it was our choice and we expect our customers to keep them alive. And now he's doubling down on it you are a piece of work hank. this isn't a "sniper" review that he says to all customers that give him one star. This is a pissed of customer that was treated like we know nothing. We called in to ask for advise on what to do and all you and your employee did was blame us from the moment you picked up the phone You killed this FISH and lost a customer in the process remember that! I went to this store to buy a crayfish for my 20 gallon aquarium after seeing that they had a pond full of them a while back. I came back to the store to buy one. They searched around in the pond, and eventually they found a huge grey crustacean. They brought it out and told me that they were surprised that they even still had one in there. I should have taken that as a warning sign that they weren't even aware that the creature was in their pond. I can't imagine that they were feeding her. I asked them what type of crayfish it was, and after deliberating for a while, they brought in someone else who told me it was a common crayfish. Oh how wrong they were! A few days after bringing this crayfish home, I discovered that she had worms. They ended up being benign to my relief, but still gross nonetheless. After a few months of good food, de-worming and loving care, she's turned from grey to electric blue! She's also grown enormous. This Leeds me to believe that I was not given a common crayfish but an Australian yabby!. I'm going to need a tank upgrade pretty soon, which is why I'm writing this review. Next time you really need to take better care of your crayfish and get a proper species I.D.! read more

Grew up going to Connie's when I was a kid, but sad to find out they switched over to just koi and pond. They used to have awesome sea horses, and a big variety of fish. Now it's just koi, but they have a huge selection, and awesome variety of color and size koi. But since they have such an awesome set up of koi, I'd wish they'd have a biggest selection of other similar fish like pearl scales. They have comets, and ryujins, but not the one fish I love. I recently began to administer to the issues of large-scale public fish pond. The folks at Connies have helped us immensely in unraveling the mysteries our pond. They patiently answered every single one of my questions, and they can also answer yours b/c they certainly know their stuff. We recently had a cloudy/scummy/algae issue that wasn't going away after several remedies were administered. It was determined that our system needed new ultra-violet radiation tubes and an algaecide application. Within a month the problem was resolved, courtesy of Connies. Thank you!
