Connie's Shoe Repair is full of soul! Connie's has been keeping RVA's shoes shiny and spiffy for over 100 years! In this "throw away" society, it's refreshing to see the art of cobbling hasn't faded away completely. Brian, who assisted me, was kind enough to share with me the colorful history of this iconic shoe repair. It used to be located downtown and recently has moved to the West End. He gave me a mini tour of the shop's vintage shoe shine chairs, 3 of the original 10 remain. He showed me photographs of the owners, the downtown buildings and retro advertisements. We had a great conversation and I feel like I made a new friend! He even supported me by purchasing one of my books! They carry many foot related accessories too, fun socks, shoe horns, laces etc. I loved the sign that said "Time wounds all heels!" I needed new taps on a pair of kitten heels. The turn around time was just a couple of days, the work was professional and the price was decent, $13.50. I wasn't too fond of paying up front, but they must have people who don't come back for their shoes. Also, some other shops will polish or shine your shoes when you pick them up, that would've been a plus! But as for their being my go to repair shop? They're a shoe in!

Friendly service and expert work. There's good reason that they are still in business after more than 100 years.

Connie's was able to re-sew the strap, by hand, and the results were perfect - no discernible difference from the other unbroken shoe.

He gives people the ability to be mobile, to walk, and help lessen the pain many of us suffer. He is a dying breed in a MUCH needed trade. Joe and Dee found a way to keep everyone safe and worked through the pandemic. He has worked countless hours on his feet amist fumes that I'm sure aren't great for his health with Dee beside him running the business. They are not young, and have their own issues to deal with, as well as caring for elders in their families. They made a hard decision to close their business because of their own needs, but they didn't stay closed long. They heard the cries of their customers who send shoes from out of state also, and who couldn't get their shoes modified, or like in my case, not modified correctly, and if Michel DeAngelo in Illinois fixed them right, he was going to charge me again! I was left with useless shoes and out a lot of money. Joe and Dee decided to reopen when in this day and time of "It's all about ME, is rampant!" and customers don't seem to count. No, these are beautiful, special people care. They care about their customers so much they could not justify not reopening for their customers. Gratitude and reverent appreciation doesn't even begin to put feelings into words. I only hope that one day soon a young soul will come along and learn the trade well, and take the helm so Joe and Dee can retire and take care of themselves knowing they have left the customers they care so much about in wonderful hands and hopefully their legacy will be passed on. It will take some very special people to carry the torch. While they'll make a living, the richest reward will be in service to others in need. They will have some pretty big shoes to fill.

I wore them a good amount and found that one of the heels was wearing through again and, this time, worn down much faster than when I had originally bought them. I came back to Westbury Shoe Repair on March 5th to complain that one shoe's heel was fine but the other was already worn through. I wanted to get them repaired for free because it had only been about 2 months that I had worn them without much issue. They told me they would not repair them for free and made it clear to me that they do not stand by their product or customer satisfaction. I will be finding a new shoe repair store even if it is a little farther away.

When he learned that the repair would cost almost two times MORE than I originally paid for the shoes, he immediately went back into the store to ask for his money and my shoes back. The owner refused and said that I needed to come to the store. I did within the hour and requested my shoes and money back. He refused numerous times and was increasingly verbally abusive and incredibly rude. (I was not rude, I just kept saying that I just wanted my shoes and money back). The owner told me at the end of the "conversation" that he would see me in court. I said that was crazy -- going to court was not worth the time or the effort for the return of $75 and a $40 pair of shoes. I don't even want the shoes back. They will just make me sad every time I wear them. Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT use this store for any services. Overpriced, shoddy work and horrendous customer service. Follow-up - My husband went back to the store after I wrote this review to attempt once more to retrieve my shoes. He found my shoes in the middle of the road outside of the shop. I can only assume that the owner decided to throw the shoes out in the street after I left? Wow. Unbelievable. You can't make this stuff up. What kind of store owner does this? In any event, the owner was gone at that time and his wife was kind enough to refund our money. I would still never go to this shoe repair shop. The owner is not professional to say the least.
