We were able to switch out the heel part of my dance shoes though. This cost me $17 to replace and took a little under two weeks to pick up. I paid up front. This is located close to downtown. Very small shop but I found this in Yelp so I gave them a pair of my shoes for heel replacement. They did an excellent job, the one man staff and the cobbler were so courteous, and the fee was appropriate. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I then gave them another pair of shoes for heel replacement because I was happy with my first pair.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If you need shoes, boots, or buffing out of your shoes then I highly recommend this shop. I'm satisfied with the work & appreciate their location in Downtown. My boots were perfectly restored. The man at the front desk was extremely helpful and friendly. However, there was a woman who came out of an office in the back and started yelling and scolding the front desk worker in front of a lobby full of customers. Apparently he ran a credit card while she was trying to use the phone. She yelled and scolded, then went back in her office, and came back out to yell and scold some more. I was appalled. Not only was it rude to her employee, it was exceptionally bad taste to let all of the clients see her so angry. The gentleman at the front desk was trying very hard (and succeeding!) at helping all the clients, while remaining friendly and cool. He had to run a credit card, because a client needed to pay. Her behavior was childish and exceptionally bad. I won't be back because of the way this "manager"? treated her employee. I hope he finds a better job where he is respected and rewarded for his hard work and upbeat attitude. read more

I took my treasures for a much-needed resoling, and they came back even better than expected, with a new gripper sole that makes them good to go for at least another several years. Twice, Cindy has brought my current purse back to life. Strap issues both times. First time, where the strap attaches to the body of the purse, she was able to repair it. Cost: $8. Second time, the strap broke in the middle. Cindy offered to splice it back together for $6, then gave me the option of a new strap for $8. (New straps online were easily double that, plus shipping.) Yay! I love Gus's shoe repair. Gus's wife actually runs the place and she is really good at what she does. She has a really nice assistant too. I've taken a pair Prada's that had a hole in the bottom and a rip on the top and she made them look like new for about $60. Bargain! Also, she's taken in boots for me to fit my skinny legs for super cheap ($35). Recently she fixed a job that was done on a pair of boots by another shop and made them look fan-tastic. The work done on my Frye boots was abysmal. I brought them to Gus' to have the calves taken in. The shopkeeper measured my calves in the type of pants I planned to wear with them, however after alterations the calves of my boots way too small. Additionally, the stitching was uneven, crooked and lumpy, without binding stitches to finish the seams. Since they were too small, they volunteered to stretch the boots. I believe they were over stretched, because the stitching is now gaping. The repair was incredibly expensive, and the boots, even more expensive and are now completely ruined. read more

Amazing customer service and best prices that I found around Richmond to fix the zipper on my boot. Mitchem shoe repair in carytown was charging more than 2x what they charged me at gus's. And connies repair said they only fix zippers in the spring and not the winter??..makes no sense! The age old adage you get what you pay for shines true here. I dropped my shoes off in a complete mess - 48 hours later Gus's called me to let me know they were done (complimentary phone call) and that was ahead of time. While it was a little more expensive than i liked, you get what you pay for. Great service and a job well done. My shoes looked brand new and one had extensive heel repair to be done. Don't be turned off by the fact that this spot is downtown - there is a loading zone right in front so it is easy to pop in and out. I went here because I read the great reviews. They were polite, but the sole that was put on the bottom of my shoe to protect it is now peeling off, and I hardly wear these shoes. It was the most expensive shoe repair I've had (I had them repaired often in New York and those soles are all still intact). They were very polite, but I never received a call that my shoes were ready and had to contact them. Obviously others had differnet experiences, but I have to say I won't be returning. read more

I've just returned with the 2 pairs of shoes fixed. I had fallen through a deck in my heels and messed up the leather. I thought they were ruined and took them there as a last resort. The other shoes needed a new sole on one of the heels. Cindy, the stores owner fixed my shoes right up. Not to mention she also does dry cleaning there too. So with dry cleaning my stuff was done in only a few days. The shoes were ready the first day though. She is always quick and honest about her work. If a shoe can be salvaged, she'll find a way. This is not the first time I've been there either. Last year, I brought her some shoes that had just had it. Other places would have told me to just throw them away. But she put on two new soles and buffed them up and I was ready for the holiday season. I bought a pair of expensive leather boots online but was bummed when I got them because they were tight in the calves/shaft of the boot. I searched Yelp for a show repair business that could stretch boots and Gus's had the best ratings. I don't live or work downtown but wanted a quality repair shop to take my boots to (especially since I've never had work done like this!) The first time they shrunk back quite a bit (normal for leather boots) but they took them a second time and stretched them and now they fit like a dream!! Because of all the rave reviews, I brought two of my favorite pairs of shoes to Gus's to be resoled. Both are Stuart Weitzmans that had been resoled before--one pair in a big city and the other in a little town whose cobbler had cobbling in his blood. I had thought the shoes would last forever, but I just don't wear them anymore. They look sloppy and too obviously resoled. You can see the glue between the soles and the uppers. Because the repairs scraped up the insoles, the shoes now feel unpleasant to wear and discolor my feet through my (also discolored) tights. Since one reason to resole shoes is to avoid breaking in a new pair, these changes were especially unfortunate. I agree Gus's is expensive at $45 for resoling, plus $10 to replace heel pads. Until very recently, they did not accept credit cards, but they were nice about holding onto my shoes while I fetched the cash. Then again, why would I have been carrying $110 in cash? read more

I'm so glad to have found Gus' Shoe Repair. I took a pair of boots to another nearby repair shop where they were promptly botched by work I had never agreed to. After months of wrangling with them, I took the boots to Gus', where the competent and friendly cobbler creatively suggested a matching strip of leather to cover up the poor workmanship of the previous shop. My boots now look great! The leather strip looks like a design element instead of the cover-up it is, and I'll feel great wearing my boots this winter. The workmanship at Gus' is high-quality, and their prices are a third of what the nearby shop was charging. read more
