Went to pick up my irreplaceable 25+ year old boots that I had brought in the week before to be resoled and cleaned. They had given my boots to a 'regular customer' without a claim ticket who stated they were hers. My claim ticket has/had my name and telephone number, so it is truly baffling how this could ever occur. I got the boots back, but only because I pushed really hard to resolve an 100% preventable problem. What a shame to no longer be able to trust or do business here. read more

I promise to be the sole of discretion in this review. Th Nimble Thimble alteration shop also repairs shoes. My boots needed the taps replaced, and I passed this shop in Tuckahoe and thought I'd try them. First of all, it was expensive. But, not wanting to drive around looking for another place, I caved and left my boots and my better judgement. When I went to pick up my boots, the lady tells me "cash or check only". Information that would have been useful to relay when I dropped them off. She points to a ripped sign on the counter which I didn't notice before. I let her know it would be nice to verbalize that policy as well, then l drove to the ATM. I went back, annoyed, inconvenienced and tapped out, gave her the $20 to get my boots out of shoe prison and left. The shabby cobbling left much to be desired as the photo shows. Call me a heel, but next time I'll hoof it to another shop. read more

Have been taking my suits and pants here for years. Essentially, I would drop off anything I need to be altered, grab a sub at Bernies, EAT that sub, and then two weeks later, pick up my stuff. Those inside have always been very nice and quick to help you! While it may take two weeks to get something altered, you can absolutely ask them to rush something. It' wasn't the first time and def will not be the last time that I will run a tuxedo over with 5 days notice.... I will happily continue to take anything I need altered to this place. read more

I'm going to be in a wedding and order my bridesmaid according to the specific requirements made by the bridal shop I was purchasing my dress from...well it was at least 4 sizes too big!!! Desperate and furious they wouldn't help I went to the nimble thimble based on recommendations of a friend. I was blessed by the amazing seamstress they have she did my dress in a week!! And it fits perfectly. The only negative would be the lady who is up front in the beginning I felt was alittle rude but the seamstress is so sweet!!! read more

Nimble Thimble isn't anything to look at, but they do good, dependable work in a timely manner. I've had numerous things hemmed, patched, shortened, and tailored here and I have always been very happy with the work, the time it takes and the price (the price isn't cheap, but not expensive--middle of the road). There is also a shoe repair shop in the same place (though they are technically two businesses). I've also taken shoes in there on several occasions and have always been pleased with the work and time it takes. Price seems average, too. Do note that the owner has a small dog that runs around the place, so if you don't like dogs or are allergic, you might want to go elsewhere. Oh, and they don't take credit cards. read more

I had a men's blazer altered--tailored, really--here, and they did a fine job. The work is neat, and the resulting garment fits well. The staff, including dog, is friendly, and they managed a very quick turnaround so I could have the jacket back for Christmas. Hurricane Isabel knocked power out to the region a week prior to my wedding in 2003 but it didn't stop the ladies of Nimble Thimble from finishing the alterations on my bridesmaids dresses by hand in the light of the front window. I had a terrible experience at nimble thimble. The customer service is atrocious, and I found the woman who checked me out to be extraordinarily rude. The alterations I had requested were done in reverse - the top of the dress had been taken out and the bottom taken in, when the instructions were to do the opposite. The fabric inside the dress looked like it had been mutilated. To make matters worse, it took them almost 2 weeks to do said alterations. I would not recommend taking your clothing here! read more

I have been going to Nimble Thimble for years and will not Ever be going there again!!! Several weeks ago I brought an expensive Milly dress there to be brought in b/c it was too big on the top. I was measured and can back two weeks later to pick up the dress. When I came back the alterations were a mess. She said she would "fix it". Today I came back again to pick up the dress and again it looked horrible. She kept telling me it was fine so I finally took it and went home. When I tried it on at home my 15 year old gay son told me I looked like I was wearing a parachute. I have now brought it back for the third time to be fixed and she is again charging me for the mistakes. In my work if someone does something incorrectly they do not repeatedly charge other people for their mistakes, they just fix them. At this point I just want my dress to fit but I will never go there again!!!! read more
