I was here recently to do my oath-taking for my dual citizenship. I wasn't sure what to expect with parking and it being downtown so I was able to get my brother to drive me and drop me off. It's nice to know that there's a jollibee next door to satisfy those Filipino food cravings in case you get a touch of nostalgia at the consulate. When I arrived on the floor, there's someone to check you in and explain where to go and the process. I sat down and was handed a form to complete for my voters registration. When I finished, I went up to one of the booths where they took my photo and my completed form. It was a little bit difficult to hear since they were behind the glass and the room was full of people. Once I got registered to vote, we waited to be called up to verify our documentation. I signed a few forms and got fingerprinted then we all recited our oath to make it official! Overall it was a smooth and easy process. Next time I'll be back to get my Philippine passport. read more

This review isn't for the staff at the actual office. It's for the security lady, right in the entrance of the building. I wasn't allowed to go in with my mom due to covid, so i watched her go in, and waited by the door where I could see and hear her, mind you my mom is 70 and she's a little hard of hearing. The lady literally yelled at her, and when she asked for her to repeat the suite number and which floor the actual consulate is located. She kept yelling at everyone for trying to wait by the entrance where it's warm, she's shooing everyone "you can't wait in here" it's ridiculous how this behavior is tolerated to have in such a fancy building. Beyond rude. As far as processing my mom said everyone was kind and helpful to her. They were patient with her and explained everything to her without any problems. It took her about 30 minutes to finish from the time she went in for her appointment. The website and the emailing system to make an appointment is pretty slow in response and frustrating but other than that, they were nice and didn't give us any issues. I think the appointment system works, but the fact that you can't choose a time and you have to choose 2 dates in case first choice isn't available is a little frustrating, but with covid, it's totally understandable. read more

Every time I go there they NEVER help. I refuse to believe that EVERYTHING must go to Manila. If so, why are they there? Its almost as if the people "working" there get some thrill from turning customers away. They say everything is on their website, newsflash, it isnt. Even if you call ahead, the rules/procedures change once you arrive(That's what pissed me off!!). Then they have the gaul to say that everything must be in order. Very poor communication. I got all the required documents on their checklist that was emailed to me. But when i got there they told me that i need a copy of my dual certificate. I told them that it was not on their checklist. I showed them their email but i was told that it's in their website. Why should i go to their website if I officially received the checlist from them emailed to me. I took a day off because I have to travel far. But it's all a waste of time, money and gas. Room is full of kababayans waiting to pick up their passport renewals, or submit their papers for dual citizenship. Staff are hardworking, taking time to assist each applicant. We are here for my husband's dual citizenship oath taking. We are a bit early. It's good that the tv is on featuring Philippine islands and organic livelihood programs. It's a small room seating maximum of 30 kababayans. The rest will have to stand up. We decided to go down earlier and walk across to the Millennium Park. Took some pictures and went back to the consulate. Parked our cark underground via Millennium Garage. The consulate is on the 16th floor of Bldg. #122 Michigan Avenue Chicago. I understand how others feel about coming here to process. It is time consuming, pricy to book a hotel and what an adventure for others. Hopefully, those who come here don't come back because of missing requirements. So please bring your original documents regardless if the staff did or did not tell you. Me and my children drove from Indiana to renew their passport, I'm a single dad and wala ng kontak sa mother nila. I have documents but wala lanng power of attorney. We've been here in the US for 3 yrs. And this bading referred me to this lady who's rude. Umuwi daw ako ng pinas para makuha ko un, I mean the way she talk to people parang di kapwa Filipino. She could have said it in a nicer way. No compassion at all. We live in a busy live here and driving 4hrs going there and 4hrs back is not a joke plus andami pang na cancel na errands na dapat gawin then pagdating dun ganun ang trato ng kapwa natin Filipino. SHOUT OUT to the people that work here! They are very nice, friendly and helpful. This is going to be long, i will tell you everything in detail. Yes, i tried to call them several times and NO ANSWER. Just imagine they handle few states, so yes, i understand. My husband called twice and got an answer. I have been reading their website for a month to make sure i will not miss anything. I printed the requirements i needed around mid January and started gathering everything. The requirements they ask is very basic and not difficult to get. By mid February they change something on the website, so i know first hand that the website is updated. I was there for few things like ROM, ROB and my passport and when i was there i was able to transfer my name so i can vote the next election. I am from Indiana and it's about a little over 3 hours to get there. We left 4am to make sure we don't get there during rush hour. We got there even after stopping somewhere for breakfast at around 7:20. I decided to wait at the building, the office is on 16th floor and they don't open til 9am. So you don't need to be very early. I was there on a Monday. They started the day with a flag ceremony at 8:45 with the Consulate General there Ms. Gina Jamoralin and started calling right after. After they checked my papers and transfer my name to vote for the next election i got done at around 9:15 (i was first in line) Went back in the afternoon at 2. I drop the claim stub in window 2 for my ROM that i needed for my passport. They called me less than a minute. They made adjustments on my ROM form because they want the state in full. For those filing for ROM, when they ask for birth place. Write everything in full,(example) Los Angeles, California NOT Los Angeles, CA. You also have to read in their website it is now TYPEWRITTEN. This is the changes they made around mid February. If im not mistaken its only the passport where you can hand write them. I was very thankful they did the changes or else i will have to go down to redo it. All i did was sign and my husband too. It was not a mistake anyway, they just want the state in full. So i waited probably around 30mins for my ROM to get done. After that i went on to submit my requirements for my passport and paid and waited 5 minutes for them to call me for pictures and i was done! So i was basically just there for an hour and 15 mins. Another thing, you will have to pay extra $10 if you want it done that same day, of course except for the passport which is not a big deal. read more

When it comes to consular services, you can either hit the nail on the head or fling poop all over the wall and watch it slide down & giggle. Its either 5 stars or bust. Thankfully this consulate general holds jurisdiction over Kansas, otherwise our trip would have taken us to either the east or west coast. The staff here is amazing. They are very kind and always hospitable. They do NOT get that DMV feeling here at all. Point of advise, if you need self-addressed envelopes with tracking numbers, there is a Filipino travel agency on the 15th floor that can get you one for $25 (Average at post office is $18, but convenience way overrules cost considering the entrance to this place is in front of the Bean and there's no post office in reasonable distance). Be prepared to get here EARLY if you are going on a Monday or Friday. Be prepared to straight red-eye it if either of our days fall near a major holiday. The place will be stupid packed. read more

Their silahis badingding supervisor(sorry not able to get his name so I'll just describe him) is so rude. As usual Philippine style. So unprofessional. All the staff are so rude specially their supervisor(somewhat the oldest man that works there. "Silahis/badingding"). Very inaccurate when it comes to giving information and too knowzy to the point that is embarrassing because he talks down to you really loud and asked ramdon unrelated personal things even though it's NON OF HIS BUSINESS. AS IF HE JUST WANT TO EMBARRASSED YOU specially if you're pretty. Galit ata Sa mga magaganda. He was on the other window assisting another client yet he don't shut his mouth being too knowzy and annoying. He tend to mind all his working staffs. I got to the end of the process, the lady who was taking a photo of us was ok but then her silahis boss again kept bugging her to hurry up even when she was still assisting me. One more thing, silahis boss/supervisor kept bugging all of us customers to buy two envelope of USPS and says if we only buy one then it's our own risks if it gets lost. Huh?! So unreasonable, it's their responsibility to take care of the two passports and maki sure they put them together in that one envelop before mailing to us. That's probably he just wanted a "cut" from the mailing envelops and photo copies. Advice. Be vocal and mataray to them otherwise mamaliitin ka nila. Bring cash since they only accepts cash. Make sure to photocopy your documents right away since they don't do copies for you. Buy prepaid mailing envelop the flat rate priority one with red stripes from usps. Good luck. Went on a Wednesday morning ( around 10 am or so ) and there weren't many people there. You go through the door and take a number then wait for your number to be called. I had a pleasant experience. Everyone was professional and courteous. Just follow the directions/requirements on their website and you'll be good to go. The office is on the 16th floor so it'll be any of the last 4 elevators to get there, once on the 16th floor take a left and you'll see the offical sign at the end of the hall. read more

Their service reminds me of the sevice back home-Inconvenient! Their office is at 16th floor but they make you go down to 14th and have photocopies of your IDs and docs done in a travel agency, which you'll have to pay for (they're making a business out of our the transactions!) i mean, Wtf?? Don't they have their own photocopiers in their offices? For crying out loud! It's a friggin office! A Philippine government office! And some employees are so unprofessional. The man in the passport application window does not know what he's doing. I'm a dual citizen and used the same papers when I applied for dual citizenship and there was no problem. I have an original document from the NSO, now PSA, stating they can't find a record of my birth certificate but this was not a problem when I applied for dual citizenship. When I took my oath of allegiance they even asked me if I wanted to apply for a Philippine passport already but I said no at that time. Now that I'm applying for a passport the man at the window said the document from the NSO is no good and refused to accept my application for passport. If it was good enough to be approved for dual citizenship why is it not good enough to apply for a passport? Isn't that stupidity to the nth degree? read more

I have been calling the Chicago office on Michigan avenue for the past 2 weeks but unable to speak to anyone as there's noone to answer the phone. I've tried many times between 9:00am - 5:00pm but no success. It's very aggravating since many of us here are busy but need to take the time to take care of business. Their office reminds me of the government offices back in the Philippines. Very poor service!!! People are just checking their emails/browsing the internet. I just need to drop off a document and I was told to wait for an hour because they were on lunch break. I applied for my Philippine passport last October 7, 2016 and until now I still haven't receive it. Come to find out the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs is not processing it because they are requiring me to submit a certain document for them to issue the passport. I even had my relative in the Philippines follow up with DFA because the person in charge of the passport dept(Chicago) wasn't doing anything to check on the status of my passport at DFA. In short ako pa ang nagaasikaso!!! Sana naman po gawin ninyo yung trabaho nyo kaya po kayo nasa tanggapan na yan para gawin ng tama yung mga responsibilidad nyo bilang empleyado ng Tanggapan ng Embahada ng Pilipinas. Just get here about an hour and 10 minutes before 9am and you will be first. A little crazy but fun, like the Philippines! Total time spent here was 2 hours. Arrived 7:45 and out by 9:45. Travelled all the way from Louisiana. Caught the red eye flight to be here for 9 AM. We arrived at the consulate at 830 AM. Employees were already cranky. I don't think they know anything about customer service at all. We were told oath taking is not until 2 pm. We referred to the information on the website. I was so disappointed with the services provided to a Pinoy like me by the consulate assistant and the embassy office: 1. I have been calling the office everyday for almost 2 weeks and got no answer. The purpose of the telephone is for easy access by the fellow Pinoys on urgent matters that can be answered immediately. I hope the embassy should relaize that by not answering it gives a bad image of how we treat our kababayans. 2. i am requesting for a red ribbon seal. I have done this several times in the past years and I have received prompt services from the embassy. I am wondering why the new consulate assistant returned my request saying it was incomplete and lacking state of minnesota dept of secretary signature. I think she did not bother reading it. She asked for a photocopy when she can do it herself instead of returning the documents. She did not even think about the cost involve dfor these documents to be mailed again plus the delay it caused us. It was an urgent need. Before, I did not have problem on this type of services. In fact I have filed about 30 times on a red ribbon seal. The consula before were very prompt in accomplishing and returning said documents. Sana naman mag improve na ang services at ang mga employees dapat efficient and knowledgeable about their roles. I agree with the reviews below that this establishment thrives to inconvenience its customers. Prior to coming here I called numerous times to ask about requirements, but nobody answers. So I just ended up going by the requirements posted on their website. I go to the building and there wasn't a long wait; however, when it was my turn, I was missing one "required" document that was neither on the website nor on any of the signs posted in the office itself! I told the man assisting me that I attempted to call but nobody ever answers, so how is any person supposed to know about this and I pointed out that it does not list that document on their chart. His response, "oh I don't know what's on that list." Needless to say, I voiced my concern to him not just about the document situation, but also that this consulate office services numerous states (even as far as Mississippi) and people may have to travel far for in-person required services so I suggested they either answer their phones or have the correct requirements listed online and in their offices. For a true Philippine government experience, come to the consular office in Chicago. Not only are they inconvenient but also incompetent. read more

I found my entire experience of having my renewal for my old Philippine passport, for dual citizenship, confusing, and the instructions on their website, quite vague and misleading, to begin with. To top it off, this gentleman at the window, in charge of checking documents presented to him, must have been having a bad day, for he was anything, but friendly and accommodating. I drove about 3 hours to get to the Philippine Consulate General's office, only to come in contact, with this arrogant and rude man. There were so many inconsistencies with the forms, and documents online, their webpage initially required, that were later found to be unnecessary. And because of the Covid lockdown, the applicant is therefore left to interpret the vague and brief instructions he/she reads online, to the best of his/her knowledge since, you cannot call the Consulate Gen's office phone. They don't answer their phones at all ! They sometimes respond to their email messages, but only for simple questions. They don't like to respond to clarify matters, which are important to the applicant especially, for those coming from distant states. You also later learn, that there is a travel agency, within the building, though on another floor, who sells way over priced self stamped envelopes, and where you can have documents notarized (always a good help to have). Sorry to say, that the Consulate General's office in Chicago, runs nearly the same system, as that of the Bureau of Immigration in Manila, in terms of making money on the side. That said, I was still able to work on my passport renewal. It's just that instead of making the system run more efficiently, from giving instructions on their website; submitting documents via pdf (when they do work); to presenting yourself physically, at the Consulate General's office, and etc., their inefficient system only brings about more confusion, waste of time, and exasperation. These employees represent our home country, the Philippines, and they are in fact 'ambassadors of goodwill'. ( I hope they keep this vital role of theirs in mind). It's about time, they behaved as such ! There's ALWAYS room for improvement, which is why I cannot give them 5 stars for right now. read more

I did 2 transactions with the consulate in Chicago. The first one was to get a certification for the renewal of my daughters passport. It was a smooth process. Secondly, when I renewed my passport. From the train station I proceeded straight to there office. Arrived some minutes before 3pm. Took my number, after 5 minutes my number was called and been assisted. It took me less than an hour to do the application. Surprisingly, I received my passport in 3 weeks time. I am so impressed with the service and wants to thank you all for the job well done. I just wanted to thank the fine staff at the Chicago Philippines Consulate! We were in a bind as my wife's passport had expired, but we had already booked our honeymoon. We made an emergency trip to Chicago and submitted her information on Feb 21st, and we got her passport back in 5 weeks!! I cant say that it will be this fast for everyone, we may have been fortunate if the Manila office had a light week, but in any case, this office and the Manila office teamed up to save the day (and our honeymoon) for my wife an I. I dont understand how people here can be rude and sarcastic. The fact that you are travelling back to the philippines as a fellow filipino, they make it hard for you. It amazes me how other countries would get their passport in days or 3 weeks max and philippine passport 8-12 weeks. I understand that they send the passports back to the country but why even take 8 weeks for that?. The people who work here dont even give you detailed information on how to go about certain situations. Ive been waiting for my passport and im leaving next week and still havent gotten it. THey told me to call them and come back next week. I will try to keep a positive mind and have faith that it might arrive on the day they said passports will be arriving. But it will be so devastating to be missing my brother's graduation and leaving himby himself, for something my own country and fellow countrymen could not provide in a timely manner. So I am keeping this review until i get my passport ona timely manner. If any of the consulate member sees this and actually care to read this review I hope you have it in you hearts to actually go out of your way to help and be of service to your kababayans and not give off a sarcastic and rude attitude. I attended the Consular Outreach in St. Joseph Missouri last July 9, 2016 to renew my passport (expiring on December 1,2016) and notarize one document. The self-addressed stamped envelope w/ tracking number I submitted they use it in mailing my notarized document. (They returned my money order payment and asked for cash $70 for the passport renewal and mailing that is why I don't have a tracking number for my passport they mail to me). February 2017 came I did not receive my passport so I decided call the Chicago office and found out that my passport was not renew yet because she said there was a problem with the machine so they need to recapture my photo and finger printing. They have a scheduled Consular Outreach again in St. Joseph, Missouri at same place on February 11,2017. I went there and the man who assessed me said in three weeks my passport is ready. Second week of March I called the Chicago office asking information for my passport, the man on the line said they mail it already on March 2, 2017. March 13 I called again to ask for the tracking number of my passport that they mail but the woman who answered says she will transfer me to the passport department who is in-charge and she instructed me to leave a message and include my name and contact number if ever they will not answer the phone. I was waiting for their return call for days, they did not call back. Today March 24 I called the office again and the woman who answered the phone said the person in-charge is busy and can't talk on the phone. It is so stressful experienced!!! read more
