A lot of people have a vision of dentist who is scary, untrustworthy, and just wants to take your money. That vision is reality here. Read the negative reviews before looking at the 5 stars because they all say the same thing. I was told I need 11 fillings on my first visit there. 11! I didn't advocate for myself because I trusted that a dentist would have my best interest in mind. I do not feel that was the case here. Every time I have been there, the cleanings have been max 20 minutes (does not feel complete) and the filling experiences are horrible, there are people running around and hardly talking to patients. I expected to at least be told that the doctor was leaving the room and a hygienist would be finishing it, but I looked up at the end and saw a random person I have never seen finishing fillings on my teeth. When I had to go back because of severe pain and sensitivity lasting over 10 days after the fillings, they then proceeded to poke around with no numbing in my severely irritated mouth. Once I was finally given a tiny dose of numbing, they started doing more work and it was so painful, I just wanted it to be over. However, the dentist told me "It's really hard to work on you when you're shaking like that." It was absolutely demoralizing and disrespectful. I clearly was in pain, but she just wanted to race through it and get it done. This was far from the only brash, rude and completely unprofessional thing she said in the appointments I have been to there. Additionally, because everything was so rushed, chaotic and disorganized, 2 -two! - of my fillings were done so poorly and rushed that, according to a different and much kinder dentist, it has caused irreversible pulpitis and I have to now get 2 root canals. The new dentist I have gone to now states that this is far from the first patient they have had that has come from this office with this issue. I went there for about a year before being fed up with the constant upsell. Literally every time I went in there was always "one more thing" to add to my treatment plan. After getting two (probably unnecessary) crowns from them I decided to get a second opinion. The new dentist said everything was fine and that I needed no treatment. Beyond the scam like treatment plans, Dr. Henderson is very rude to both patients and staff. She was gossiping about another staff member with the assistant WHILE doing treatment on me. Ridiculous and unprofessional. Not only has this office lost my trust and business, but they have made me skeptical of ALL dentists. With so many dentists in Bend to chose from please don't waste your time here. I had a new patient exam and teeth cleaning that needs to be redone. The teeth cleaning took all of about 20 min (incomplete) and x-rays need to be repeated due to poor quality and not a complete set. Absolute waste of time and money. I now need to go to a new/competent dentist to have a proper cleaning and complete set of x-rays. I found the dental hygienist friendly, although incompetent. The x-ray tech must have been new (at least I hope she was new so she had an excuse). She had no clue what she was doing and had to repeat images. A bit frustrating and annoying. Dr Henderson was brash, rude and aggressive. She spoke to me like I was deaf and 5 years old. Her beside manner needs a lot of work, to say the least. I found it very rude when she boldly stated (from across the room) I had 4 fillings that were old (I have NEVER had a filling). The hygienist had too apologize for her statement and explain what she was looking at were teeth sealants, not fillings. She also carried on about how i needed a mouth guard and if I didn't wear one I would eventually need dentures and/or would develop cavities. I was told I have a cavity and need a filling ASAP. Can't wait to get a second opinion as I don't believe I have a cavity. She showed me a picture and it looks like a bit of staining. Please do yourself a favor and read ALL reviews. Overall terrible experience here. I went in for my first appointment after moving to Bend and was treated so poorly. The dentist was unprofessional and quite rude to me the entire time. She shouted across the room how horrible my mouth looked, my mouth was rotting, how many cavities I had, etc., which made me feel extremely self-conscious. Keep in mind- I have been regularly going to the dentist my entire life and have never been told these things. I ended up coming back a week later to get my fillings done and was treated with such disregard and disrespect. I walked away from my appointment with Dr. Henderson at Contemporary Family Dentistry feeling like something was very "off." I couldn't quite put my finger on it, so decided to get a second opinion from another dentist--and I'm so glad I did. Long story short, I won't be returning to Dr. Henderson's office and do not recommend her to anyone else. I'm surprised by the number of positive reviews she has. Here's the full story: I went in for a new patient exam and cleaning. The staff was very nice and friendly. The office felt a little cramped but okay. As my appointment progressed, I felt increasingly anxious--especially when Dr. Henderson came in. Her bedside manner was not very gentle. I had mentioned to the hygienist that I had some jaw-popping (TMJ). The next thing I know, Dr. Henderson pops up out of nowhere, and without an introduction starts listing off options from behind my chair: a $600 night guard, $400 Botox injections in my jaw, and/or physical therapy. It felt like a rehearsed sales pitch considering she hadn't even sat down with me yet. She even went on to tell me there's an entire generation with dentures because they didn't wear night guards. This all felt like a scare tactic. In the few minutes Dr. Henderson did spend with me, she also pointed out three cavities. I've never had a cavity, but I also hadn't had a dental exam in over a year so this seemed possible. At this point, she broadcast the worst-looking "cavity" on a large flat-screen TV in front of me and the entire office for the rest of my appointment--which I didn't particularly enjoy. By the time I got to the front to schedule a follow-up for the fillings, I was handed a treatment plan totaling $3,000+ for not three but SEVEN fillings (at around $300 each), the night guard, and Botox. They offered to split the treatments up between two appointments to conveniently max out my insurance benefit between the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021 (with almost 50% still coming out of my pocket). I felt pressured to schedule the follow-up appointment but canceled it shortly after because it felt like a lot of work coming out of nowhere. After getting a couple of second opinions, I confirmed that I actually have zero cavities and need zero fillings. One of the more reputable dentists I saw looked at the treatment plan from Dr. Henderson and commented that the types of fillings she recommended were the most expensive (and unnecessary in my case). Oh, and the ugly cavity from the TV broadcast turned out to just be staining. I wish I'd seen the other negative Yelp reviews sooner, as those feel more aligned with my experience at Contemporary Family Dentistry. I felt like I got blindsided by all the positive Google reviews and Dr. Henderson's fancy website--but walked away feeling grossly taken advantage of. Again, the staff was all super nice--there were just too many red flags for me to trust Dr. Henderson with further treatment. If she gives you a treatment plan, I highly recommend taking it to another dentist for a second opinion. I've had some uncomfortable experiences with dentists in the past but this one was the most concerning. I have Kaiser dental insurance and started asking around for a referral to a great dentist that takes my insurance.. several people recommended Dr. Jessica Hederson.. so I went to see her.. I'M IN LOVE WITH EVERYONE I've had contact with in this office.. for the first time in my 50 years I've felt comfortable with a dentist and TRUSTED what she says.. this means everything to me.. I've been to see her three times since and we've worked together to plan my future dental care.. she even helped me to realize that I grind and clench my teeth and that I may have sleep apnea!!! I went in for a routine checkup. Got my cleaning but the doctor said I had a potential "future" cavity. She thought I should get it filled to be safe. I allowed her to do but shouldn't have. She injected me over four times before I got numb and drilled like a maniac. I left that day and I paid close to $100 dollars for it. Mind you, I have insurance. My jaw and tooth hurt for almost a week later. I debated on going in and asking for more work to fix the pain but figured I'd eventually get better. To be honest I just forgot about these people and wanted to move on and use a different dentist the next time around but I just got a bill for almost $200 bucks. You have to be kidding me. Went in to get 2 fillings , they stuck a mouth piece to keep my mouth open that That ended up cutting the back of my mouth as I told them it was hurting . And they said they had to use it . ( no other dentist has ever used that in me).. my whole mouth was swollen and infected , I couldn't eat . I called the emergency number on their website, Henderson wasn't in the office but texted me and said use salt water rinse . Even though I said I was in a lot of pain . Just an AMAZING experience from Dr. Henderson and her entire staff. From the minute of my initial phone consult to the cleanings for my daughter and I to the dental work I had done today, just extreme professionalism. They were able to show me on a screen the work they needed to do, talked me through what to expect, gave me options of how I wanted to proceed. For the actual work Dr. Henderson and Jen made this the least amount of anxiety possible and the best experience I could possibly had. Office staff was fantastic however the doctor had a poor attitude and was extremely unprofessional.

Doctor Henderson told me that I the darkness around a filling was decay and that also there was a crack in the tooth. If i did not come in right away the tooth might split and I would loose it because a crown would then not be possible. I got a second opinion. The second dentist said that the darkness around the tooth was a stain from the aging filling not decay. He put in a new filling that stabilized the crack which he said was small and NOT in immediate danger of splitting. NO decay anywhere. Her staff was very aggressive, calling twice and texting once telling me I must come in right away because the tooth was in immediate danger. She should know the difference between stain and decay that was in plain sight. I told them I found another dentist. I have heard from others that she does work that is not necessary. Unfortunately, I had a dental emergency. Dr. Henderson and staff worked me into their schedule short notice. I've been to a lot of dentists in my lifetime and this was one of my best experiences. The injection was painless! The staff treated me with kindness and took the time to listen to my concerns. I have been to many different dentists as I've moved over the years, and found out later in life there were a few botched jobs. When I found Dr. Henderson, she asked me to trust her to redo all of my fillings because most of them were not done right. I was nervous at first and wondered if it was really necessary. She completely transformed my mouth in the best way and I am no longer scared of going to the dentist. It's been a year since I've had a cavity and she has set me up with the information and tools to continue on that streak. I am so grateful for her! Please read the reviews regarding this dentist before you consider going to this practice! It's understandable that not everyone will have the same experience or treatment. My first visit was pleasant and thought the staff and the office was very nice. Meeting the dentist Jessica Henderson, I thought she was very outgoing, personable and funny. I do recall feeling as though she was very direct and matter of fact. She did recommend that I have an old filling replaced with a crown. After reviewing the x-rays, I agreed to the treatment. In January 2020, I went in for the first phase which was drilling out the old filling and placing a temporary crown on. During this treatment, I can honesty say was a horrible experience. The position I was placed in and the mouth guard that felt too large for my mouth along with the pressure of drilling on a back molar, left my jaw dislocated. I did notice that my bite was not lining up after I got home and after the Novocain wore off, I could not close my mouth all the way and it was extremely painful. I dealt with it the best I could and just thought it would get better. When I went in for my next appointment to get the permanent crown on, Dr. Henderson and I had a discussion about the pain I was in and how I wasn't able to open or close my mouth. The temporary crown and tooth were very sensitive in addition to the jaw issue. It was so painful I was concerned with the new crown; it was going to be a loss and she did tell me that was a possibility. Since I was unable to open my mouth fully to get the work done, she recommended I give it a few more weeks to heal. She tried telling me that I already had an issue with my jaw and that I had TMJ prior to me coming in for treatment. I explained to her I have never had TMJ or issues with my jaw. I could see that she was becoming defensive with our conversation. The pain and the jaw were not getting better, so a friend suggested that I see a chiropractor. I did go to an amazing doctor who confirmed that my jaw was out of alignment (mild dislocation) so I had 3 treatments that helped to get it back to normal. After my first visit with the chiropractor, I called Dr. Henderson to let her know what had happened to my jaw. She was very argumentative and kept insisting I had an issue prior and had nothing to do with her treatment. I was simply trying to give her feedback. My issue with her was how defensive she got with zero accountability. She did end up apologizing for the way she was speaking to me. I did return when my jaw was better and had the final crown put on. Thankfully, I have not had any issues and did return to her office for a yearly exam however, it did take me close to 2 years to return as I had such a bad experience the first time. That exam she recommended that I have a crown placed on another molar on the other side that has a crack. She never recommended this prior and I know it's been that way for years! I explained to her I will think about it. I just recently went in for a 6-month follow-up for cleaning. After the cleaning I was kept waiting for almost 15 minutes in the chair. I had another appointment I had to get to, so I asked the tech that cleaned my teeth, if I really needed to wait for her. She told me no; it was fine that I could go. I honestly felt she was making me wait on purpose. A couple of days later, I received a letter in the mail from her firing me as a patient. She said "unfortunately, I do not believe we have been able to establish a connection and that I would be better served at another dental office." So.... she keeps me waiting and I leave to an appointment and she's offended? In the letter, she states for me to remember that she has recommended that I get that crown and have three fillings. I have been to that office 4-5 times with my treatments and they never said I had the need for any fillings! I am a private person and have never done a bad review but this was something I really needed to share. You have no idea what a painful experience I went through with my jaw and I still went back there and this is what she does. I gave her the benefit of the doubt. I will never recommend her simply on the fact that she does not have genuine concern for they way she talks to people or the ability to provide accurate treatment recommendations. 3 fillings? Just had a bad experience with Contemporary Family Dentistry in Bend. The dentist is actually very good, but the billing department is very bad. I had asked the billing department to get authorization for deep cleaning in three sectors. I was assured that it was not necessary and that it was covered by my insurance. Needless to say, I received and invoice for $664 as the claim was rejected. How lazy can you get to not submit the authorization request after I had requested it. To top things off, I called yesterday at 2:00 and requested to speak to the billing person to discuss the bill and was told that she was with another patient and would call me back right after she finished. Well, you guessed it, no call. So I called this morning right after they opened thinking I would be able to speak to her but of course she was busy with another patient. Makes you feel like you are being avoided. The receptionist then asked if I would like to pay the bill, which I did and informed her if my displeasure with the billing department. Talk about customer-no-service! Needless to say I won't be going back to them. How sad to find a very good dentist that is supported by office personnel that are a lazy total piece of crap with no follow through. read more

I was in Bend on a business trip, and I bit a fork and chipped my front tooth. I was worried that no one would see me, but they got me right in. I wasn't sure how they were going to fix it, but Dr. Henderson fixed me right up! The tooth was perfect when she was done. I couldn't even see where it was broken. I thought the staff and the doctor were really nice, and the office was very beautiful. It it homey and comfortable. The office is perfect for Bend, OR - a nice, local, neighborhood dentist. I'm so happy I found them. She should move up to Seattle so I could see her on a regular basis! read more

They were an hour late seeing me and then messed up my x-rays. They then said they wouldnt clean my teeth until the redid the X-rays.

This was one of the worst dental experiences of my life! Stay clear! They tried to over charge and 'diagnosed' me with my first cavity ever. I was suspicious so i had the X-ray sent to my previous dentist (Juniper Dental is amazing) and Dr Stevens at Juniper Dental let me know he did not see a cavity and would not recommend any kind of filling. How was that possible for Jessica at Contemporary to tell me I have a cavity and schedule a filling and another dentist say there was not one at all? After having a terrible first visit for a routine cleaning I got a bill in the mail with a balance to pay even though my insurance covers the entire payment (in network). I called my insurance and they confirmed I owe $0. I called Contemporary and they said, oh that bill was meant for your insurance provider. If I didnt realize this cleaning was 100% covered I would have over paid Contemporary. I saw another review on yelp of the same experience, this was not a fluke! It seems illegal. So back to my cleaning and my visit experience. While the staff is friendly I felt like they were up selling me the entire time. The dentist (Jessica) met me and within the first 30 seconds she was not only recommending a night guard for teeth grinding but insisting on the night guard after I said no all the while knowing I was in a hurry to get back to work. She did not respect my time and did not respect my decision to not learn more about a night guard. By the way, no other dentist has ever recommended a night guard to me. Then, Jessica continued to go on and on about how she can fix a calcium spot on my front tooth that I don't even notice! After I explained that it doesn't bother me, she continued to say that she would be happy to fix it and still knew i was in a very big rush. She wasn't done trying to fix me yet. Now she was pushing Invisilign on me. My teeth are almost straight and do not bother me, thanks to Jessica I am now wondering if other people think my teeth need to be 'fixed'. I again declined, even told her my previous dental provider had determined I am not an Invisilign candidate due to my bite. Of course she was still trying to tell me how she could still offer some alignment but it would not be perfect. She said something along the lines of "you dont want ugly wires on your teeth when she can partially fix the problem." It was clear she just wanted to tack more to the bill over and over again. The most terrifying dental experience I've ever had, which ended in a panic attack mid-procedure. Dr. Henderson made it "all about her", stating that my reaction was very scary FOR HER and how shaken SHE was from it. The hygienists/front office people are very nice, but the Dr. has absolutely no bedside manner. My husband had a similarly negative experience, so I know it's not just me. If I could give less then one star I would! The dental assistants and receptionists were nice enough, but Dr Henderson, not so much! (If Doctor is what you want to call her) It has been a couple years since I have been to the dentist, due to financial and insurance reasons, but I was recently added to the OHP program and made a dentist appointment as soon as I was able to so that I can start taking care of some of my dental issues. I currently have a tooth infection and needed some antibiotics. Upon arrival I was taken to a room and the assistant asked if I had any issues. I told her about my tooth and she took an X-ray (one X-ray, instead of a full set?) and she informed me the DR would be right in. From behind my head, I hear a woman's voice say, "You have 3 options!" I turn my head to see the DR and she continues, "I can write you a prescription and you can do nothing and come back a month later with the same problem, you can get an implant, which I don't know about you, but I cringe at the thought of $6000, for one tooth! Or you can get a root canal, which will be about $2500! Me, being new to the OHP program asked if it covered root canals and she chuckled and said, "no, if OHP covered over $20,000 in repairs in your mouth, how would they be able to afford to pay for the homeless guy that has a tooth infection with his face all swollen?" I seriously wanted to walk out of the office at that moment, but I figured that I had already suffered the humiliation so I might as well stick around for my prescription. This office/Dr made me feel so uncomfortable and little! I will never return to this office again! They didn't even do a check up, no other X-rays, the doctor didn't even glance inside my mouth before she started giving me my options! What a joke! I'm traveling (long-term) so it can be hard always needing to find a new dentist. So pleased with my experience here! All the way from scheduling, to discussing finances, to my cleaning and replacing my cracked crown, every staff member I interacted with was great. The most amazing thing was the novocaine shot. I didn't feel it! Like, not at all. Magic. Dr. Henderson needs to train all dentists to give that shot as well as she does because that was the best I've ever had it done. I had a new patient exam with Dr. Henderson today. I found her arrogant and condescending. She immediately told me I had several teeth in "urgent" need of crowns due to old fillings and cracked teeth. I said nothing was hurting and that I needed to process what she was saying. I was simply there for a cleaning and to find a dentist since recently relocating to Bend. The 'urgent' need for several crowns was a lot to take in considering my prior dentist said no such thing. I am a person who has seen a dentist twice a year for cleanings my entire life. Dr. Henderson abruptly left the room and then had her front staff person come in and say the Doctor wasn't comfortable with me. This was fine as I wasn't comfortable with her either but very unprofessional. Her staff seemed wonderful but Dr. Henderson is way too aggressive for my liking. In reading other reviews this seems to be a common theme with Dr. Henderson. If you do not agree with her suggestions, beware. She sincerely believes her opinion is above reproach and second opinions are not needed. This is a very bad trait for a doctor. read more

I went to this office after I finally received dental insurance through my employer. I got xrays and a cleaning. When Jessica came to examine my mouth she said there were numerous cavities that had to be filled and most importantly one in a wisdom tooth (has never given me problems). She used scare tactics and said the infection could cause airway swelling and could cause a medical emergency. She also stated I'd need to be sedated for this filling because it is a hard procedure and will be painful for both of us. What?! Maybe she was trying to be funny, but it fell flat. When I left I had a care plan that included whitening etc for almost $3000. Reluctantly I scheduled a follow up appointment for just one filling (not the wisdom tooth one). Due to some unexpected family circumstances out of my control the day of the appointment, I missed it. I called to apologize and to reschedule but was told I had to pay my balance before they would reschedule me. $70 was my total bill for my missed appointment. $70!!!! I tried to reason with them, explained what had happened, and still, they demanded the $70 before rescheduling. I did not pay the $70, did not reschedule, and was subsequently sent to collections. What a joke. This is a greed driven office and I highly DO NOT RECOMMEND. I'd give zero stars of I could. read more

I have always had consistent dental care and cleaning. When Dr. Henderson told me that I need 4 crowns, which I had never been told before, I was surprised to say the least. She told me that I needed a filling replaced in one of my molars, as well as a filling along the gum line. When I came in for my appointment, she told me that I would have to use a dental device "to keep the slobber away from the tooth" while she worked and that any dentist who didn't require that should be sued for malpractice. She gave me Afrin nasal spray to use, as I wouldn't be able to breathe out of my mouth while the device was in place. She put the device in my mouth and it was pressing so hard and painfully on the back of my throat that I was having trouble not panicking. After the procedure, I could barely whisper my throat and mouth were so sore. I had to take Advil for a week after as my mouth and throat were so torn up and raw. The molar, that supposedly needed a new filling, has been excruciatingly tender ever since. When I went back to see her and explained how painful the experience had been for me, she got very defensive said that she had never heard that before and it probably wasn't from the device that she used. What????? I switched dentists immediately after that and was told that the 4 molars "that needed crowns" were fine. She is overly aggressive and I feel that she pushes invasive procedures for financial gain. It was the worst experience that I have ever had in my life at the dentist. read more

I'm really not the type of person to leave reviews, but I was really thrown off by how many good reviews this place has, and found my experience to be closer to the lower end. My first experience was okay, all the hygienists were friendly but it was very chaotic - seemed very disorganized and I ended up waiting a really long time to have my X-rays transferred over from my previous dentist, just to have them take the X-rays again in the end anyway. Dr. Henderson really rubbed me the wrong way, almost immediately. She made fun of my bite "how do you even eat with your jaw like that?" (I had braces, it's not bad by any means), and was just generally abrasive and not very kind. I had to come back to get cavities filled, and after reading the negative reviews on here I'm worried that I did that for no reason, despite her saying that she "saved a tooth today" after finishing. It's still sensitive several months later. read more

Dr. Henderson is one of the best dentist I have ever seen! She makes you laugh which makes me comfortable to be at the dental office! She is honest and gives you all the best options of treatment when it comes to taking care of your mouth, which I greatly appreciate! The filling Dr. Henderson did for me was amazing! I didn't even feel a thing when she numbed me up (usually the worst part for me). I'm so glad I found the best dentist at my first attempt! If you want to feel comfortable and feel like your best friend is a dentist then I highly recommend Dr. Henderson! I can't believe anyone would leave less than 5 stars. I had an amazing experience at Dr. Henderson's today! I am a new patient and I couldn't have chosen a better dentist! The staff is wonderful and the office is very clean and neat. I recently moved from another state and loved my old dentist, I was afraid I wouldn't find another one as great. I was wrong, not only is she a great dentist, she is honest but in a good way. I felt very comfortable and was told what was being done every step of the way. I only needed a basic cleaning and X-rays today, the staff was fast but efficient! Everyone is so friendly and made me feel like I had been a patient for years! Thank you all so much and I can't wait to have my family come for their cleanings! read more
