My colleague and I were presenting on a topic that was really important to the work we had done…read moretogether and would be seen by thousands of people online. We were looking to get some coaching, just to make sure that how we presented the topic, ourselves, and represented our business was the best it could be. We worked with Donnie, over several sessions. I've done a lot of speaking engagements, and feel pretty confident in my ability to present - both in person and virtually. So I wasn't quite sure, to be honest, if I would get a lot out of this session. What I walked away with from our time together was a whole lot of improvement to my presentation skills. It wasn't just about how I spoke etc - but also on the actual content I was presenting too. We were really focused in on how to create the most impactful message at every moment of the presentation, so that our attendees would walk away feeling like they got something great out of it. Hands down, our presentation was 1000x better because of our work with Donnie. And I'll be back in a heartbeat the next time an important gig comes up. Whether you're new to speaking or a seasoned veteran, they do a really good job at providing the feedback needed to take what you're doing to the next level - and all in the service of not only you, as a communicator, but the people you're speaking to.

Each week, she would try and incorporate different activities that would appeal to the kids but still help them come out of their shells and develop their language skills. A lot of exercises would be around finding things around the room and helping the child name it out loud to build their confidence in using their words. There were also other set routines built into the class, such as the hello/goodbye song, playtime, snack time, and then music time. I've interacted with different members of the staff and other speech therapists through Speech Goals since my time here and I've been very impressed with the professionalism and genuine level of care everyone has for the kids that come through the program. The only thing I would wish to change is the level of parental involvement that is required. We came for two hours each week, which was really very difficult to do with a full-time work schedule. In fact, we qualified to come twice a week, four hours total, but I knew there was no way I could commit to doing that. It would be nice if there was an option where the classes were either shorter, or the parent could drop off the child and pick them up when class was over like some other speech programs do. Especially when a good amount of the two-hour block is spent during playtime, where the kids get free play in the facility's indoor play area. There is definitely a benefit in helping kids get their energy out and build their gross motor skills but I'd rather focus the time there on the specific exercises targeted toward his speech and take him to the park after work hours for playtime. But overall, Speech Goals can be a very valuable place to go to to help address early development needs for your toddler. Thank you for the partnership these last few months!

I worked with Judy for about a year. I had (and still have) a mild stutter. But what you really…read morelearn there are mechanisms to control it. It's really up to you to apply them or not, default pattern of the speach will probably always stay with you, but you would learn another one. It takes time and effort to establish and maintain this pattern. Daily practice is required, ideally hours of controlled speach using the basic techique and minimizing the time when you are upset/angry/pressed and cannot control it. During our most active phase of the therapy (3 times a week for about 3 months) I was able to a) establish this pattern of clear speech, make sure I can call it anytime, b) get more confidence in my abilities to control it. Essentially, both parts are very important. It allowed me to overcome my fear of public speaking and talk at a 500 people conference. It went well, although after it I started to practice less and following conferences/talks were not that great so the fear grown back a bit. But it's really more about me not practicing enough, I feel. That said, I'm going to present in the same conference again this year. Probably will get back to Judy to get back into my zone. To sum up: helps to learn the basics of speech control, shows the pattern, works as a forcing function for you to practice. But it won't do the job for you. You'll have to practice a lot, for the whole life. No silver bullet. Reminds me a path of meditation/consiousness. 5m a day are not enough. And it's a marathon (probably life-long) and not a sprint.

We had an incredible experience working with Shelly Parks, or Teacher Shelly, as our 4 year-old…read morecalled her, for over a year (Sep 2024-Dec 2025). Shelly was instrumental in helping our son meaningfully improve his speech, and helping us realize there were other issues at play in his ear/ nose/ throat system - that were causing significant fluid retention and drainage problems, hearing loss, ear pain, poor sleep, irritability, and more, thus impacting his speech and behavior. Thanks to Shelly, we were able to figure all of this out, get our son the help he needed, and, a year later, we have a transformed kid. What made Shelly a great speech therapist for our son? Shelly is very observant, noticing fine details we did not (including the broader ENT issue I described earlier); she worked at our kid's level - really meeting him where he was, being flexible (he can be stubborn!) but also clear and firm to ensure progression. Shelly has a kind demeanor, accepting our son for who he is, making him feel welcomed so he felt supported to learn (there were days when he'd refuse to go to school b/c he didn't feel comfortable there but he was always thrilled to go see "Teacher Shelly"). She took a very methodical, thorough and collaborative approach with us - tracking his progression with regular speech samples and communicating suggestions for us to incorporate into our interactions with our son. And finally, she really cared about his well-being. There was a point when our son's speech, hearing and behavior issues were causing challenges for him at school. We were unsuccessful at convincing his preschool teacher that it wasn't just bad behavior but a host of other interrelated challenges we were working on with him. They had just decided he was a troublemaker. When I shared this with Shelly, she was concerned they were getting him so wrong. She talked to them and helped them change their perspective, take what we were saying seriously, and become much better partners in our son's development and growth as a result. Shelly is an incredible speech-language pathologist. I'd recommend her to anyone - and especially to parents of young kids struggling with their speaking comprehension and hearing.
