My son came to Speech Goals for several months and attended a weekly group session with Miss Kathy. Kathy is great and creates a welcoming and fun environment for the kids. Each week, she would try and incorporate different activities that would appeal to the kids but still help them come out of their shells and develop their language skills. A lot of exercises would be around finding things around the room and helping the child name it out loud to build their confidence in using their words. There were also other set routines built into the class, such as the hello/goodbye song, playtime, snack time, and then music time. I've interacted with different members of the staff and other speech therapists through Speech Goals since my time here and I've been very impressed with the professionalism and genuine level of care everyone has for the kids that come through the program. The only thing I would wish to change is the level of parental involvement that is required. We came for two hours each week, which was really very difficult to do with a full-time work schedule. In fact, we qualified to come twice a week, four hours total, but I knew there was no way I could commit to doing that. It would be nice if there was an option where the classes were either shorter, or the parent could drop off the child and pick them up when class was over like some other speech programs do. Especially when a good amount of the two-hour block is spent during playtime, where the kids get free play in the facility's indoor play area. There is definitely a benefit in helping kids get their energy out and build their gross motor skills but I'd rather focus the time there on the specific exercises targeted toward his speech and take him to the park after work hours for playtime. But overall, Speech Goals can be a very valuable place to go to to help address early development needs for your toddler. Thank you for the partnership these last few months! read more

Miss Kathy has been my son's speech therapist for almost a year now, and she has made this learning process such a breeze. She's soft spoken, gentle, and kind. I really liked her approach and flexibility with my strong-willed kiddo. He went from a couple words to little sentences, and we always enjoyed our time with her. She was also so helpful with general parenting questions I'd bring up and so supportive when my son had a tough time transitioning between activities. read more

I love Speech Goals and the entire team!! Even the other parents that attend the therapy sessions with their children. Everyone is so supportive. My son was given an Autism diagnosis at Stanford Children's hospital, which at first I was in denial because the doctor's didn't even interact with my kid. Desperate to get a second opinion, I went to the GGRC to get my son evaluated at home with the social worker and Speech Goals director, Jasna Cowan. I know neither of them of doctors, but they both reassured me that Max has a delay in Speech, not autism. From the first day Max started his therapy to today, I see a huge change in Max and his behavior. He is now 6 months into his therapy and he's starting to make more vocal sounds. Only a little sad he said "papa" before "mama", but I'll take it if it means that he's trying his best to communicate. He is on his last 6 months of therapy and I am really anxious to see his progress. I know I will be sad when Max turns 3, but I am really grateful to have the opportunity to have Max attend Speech Goals to get him ready for pre-school next fall. I am super appreciative of all of Max's therapists: Ms. Gaby, Ms. Lauren, Ms. Tiana, Ms. Julie, Ms. Brandy, Ms. Kimberly, and Ms. Jenny who have all worked with Max on a regular basis. Kathy is the best! She's changed our lives by improving our daughters speech. She would even help us with some things we've been challenged with like potty training by using potty toys during her sessions which I think helped us a lot. She would cater the sessions to help what's going on every day and day to day challenges. read more

If you want your child to be grab and let go to hit the head on a chair and for her to not even apologize or even have any sympathy for your child then that's why! I really love this place and they have some good teachers but I will warn you ONCE do not see JULIE! Her face says it all trust me! My son Ethan was diagnosed with a speech delay around February 2019 (he was about 18 months old). So, we have been a student of Speech Goals for almost 16 months now. We are so lucky that we have this organization that has been his school for so long. We have worked with numerous therapists and met a lot of other parents with similar situations and have had positive experiences all around. The therapists deeply care about the kids and parents and are very professional and great at what they do. Their patience is unbelievable! Ethan has shown significant improvements since he first started. We are sad that he has to graduate at age 3. Thank you so much Speech Goals for everything - I can't recommend it enough. Also, they have been super helpful during this COVID period - we have been doing virtual group/individual therapy. Jasna and her therapy methods have made all the difference in the world for my 3-year-old son and his speech delay. I've worked with several speech therapists and I strongly believe Jasna's method of constant parental involvement during group therapy, modeling, using sign language, and engaging play with one's child has helped my son go from only saying 6 words at 31-months to now saying 2 and 3-word sentences after only 3 months of weekly therapy. My oldest son was diagnosed with a speech delay when he was two (his entire vocabulary consisted of just 6 words!) and after trying a couple of therapists we were extremely lucky to find Jasna. Miss Jasna (as my older son calls her) has been his therapist since he was two and has been instrumental in his tremendous improvement. He is now three (he succesfully graduated the speech program) has an extensive vocabulary and still asks me to go to"Miss Jasna's class". Her warmth and extreme patience makes the students as well as the parents feel at ease and they are more willing to imitate the sounds and sign language she teaches. Our youngest son has also been diagnosed with a speech delay and we will do everything to make sure Jasna is his speech therapist as we are convinced that going to her class will make him just as successfull as his oldest brother. read more

Update: after my hurtful interaction with Jessica at the redwood City location Michael from the front office in South City was able to find me a wonderful speech therapist for my son Dylan in South City. It is pretty out of the way but Lauren is great with my son and when a spot that opens up in redwood City or San Mateo opens up they will let me know. Also I received a call from one of the heads of the organization Kiana who apologized for what had happened and was genuinely caring and kind and is currently helping me find great methods for helping my son at home. Jasna gave our 4 year old son his initial assessment and was extremely professional and is very experienced with very young children. We had our weekly sessions with Monica, so worked most closely with her. I cannot say enough great things about her! Monica is compassionate, knowledgable, patient and built such a great relationship with my son. Jasna was recommended to us by several other parents in our area. She is very well known around Pacifica for helping children with speech delays. After being on a waiting list, we finally got in and it has now been over a year since our son has been working with Jasna. At the age of 3, he was only able to say a few words. Love love love Jasna. I can't say enough about her and what she has done for my son. He started working with Jasna when he was 1 1/2. He was not saying any words at the time. We put tubes in his ears and within several weeks he slowly started talking with her help. The best part is she teaches the parent how to interact with their child which helps encourage them to speak. She started my son with sign language which helped him communicate which transitioned into talking.. Now he is 2 1/2 and asking why for everything. I highly recommend Jasna to other parents with kids with any speech issues. My son had just finished 3rd grade and after being evaluated by the school, during which they denied him speech therapy - he clearly wasn't pronouncing his "R"s - and he had become conscious of it, so he didn't always say what he wanted to. Jasna engaged him and personalize his therapy so that not only was he interested, but he worked hard for her! She successfully had him pronouncing his Rs 100% of the time -in less time than she originally predicted. Jasna is a wonderful speech therapist. She is so engaging with my 2 1/2 year old daughter and really knows how to get her attention. My daughter only knew about 10 words when she started. She realized right away that my daughter is very visual and a top down learner (most children learn one word at a time and build upon it while others like my daughter like to learn phrases). Using puzzles, games, reading, and sign language she is able to motivate her to talk. She emphasizes parental involvement so kids get the reinforcement at home too. I highly recommend her. read more

I am so, so grateful for Jasna Cowan. When my youngest son was 2, he was diagnosed on the autistic spectrum with a significant speech delay. A developmental pediatrician determined his speech was at the level of an 8 month old. Thankfully, the Golden Gate Regional Center referred us to Jasna. Our speech group consisted of 3 or 4 children and their parents. Jasna directed the parents in speech-guided games, activities and lessons. She is very experienced and knowledgeable in speech development and therapy techniques. Further, she is so kind and caring. She developed a bond with my son, that is so sweet and special. As a mom, it is such a gift to have such a talented and capable professional teaching and advocating for your child. I really can't say enough good about Jasna and Speech Goals. My son started working with her when he was about 1 1/2 years old. He was barely saying 8 words. She was nothing short of fantastic! Her class was fun & interesting enough for my active toddler but also really laid down the fundamentals of speech. Right off the bat, I could tell she knew what she was doing. She was a seasoned professional but wasn't afraid to get down to their level either. I often left the class in amazement how she held my son's attention. She would give me tips to keep up his progress at home too. You could tell she wanted to see these kids (and parents!) succeed. We also had the extreme pleasure of working with Monica, another speech therapist at Speech Goals. I believe her extreme patience and dedication are the reason my son is where he is today: a 3 year old who won't shut up! ;) Jokes aside, Monica is AMAZING! She saw my son twice a week, in one on one sessions and then in a classroom setting. She made the lessons fun usually incorporating play so he'd want to participate and learn. He literally looked forward to seeing her every week and would ask about her constantly. Monica just had this "way" and it produced amazing results!
