We have taken all of our cars to Rich for years and years and don't plan on ever taking our business elsewhere. It's so rare to find an honest mechanic that doesn't price gauge. There have been times when dealership mechanics have run for diagnostic tests on a car and given us a huge list of things that need work. Rich will look at that list and tell you what is true and what is just upselling. There have been times when he's given us services for free or for much less than what it's worth because he feels it's the right thing to do. Rich does a great job, too. Rich and Sal have taken care of my cars (2007 BMW 650i & 2011 Maserati QP S) since they went off warranty and I would not take them anywhere else. Last week I had a buddy in town and we were going to play golf, when I went to start the Maserati, the battery had died. I called Rich and he said leave the key in the car, garage unlocked, go play golf and he would take care of it. We put the clubs in the BMW and left. When we got home the Maserati had a new battery. Rich came to the house and took care of me for 30% less that it would have cost if I had taken it to the dealer. Rich is awesome ,honest, personable and of great character. He worked on my 86 Alfa Romeo Spider after it had not run for a couple of years. I originally had taken it to another mechanic Natale's Auto Repair in San Jose and he charged me a huge amount and it did not even run correctly. Natale the mechanic kept finding things wrong with my car and then wanted me to sell him my Alfa for $$ minus the work he already done or not done after a couple of days in his shop. Needless to say I towed it out of there and found CONTINENTAL MOTORS. Rich had it fixed within half a day. He helped me pass smog check and find a detailer so it looked brand new. It runs great. I have returned serveral times to Rich to look at my other car. I highly recommend without hesitation his business and services. If you want to be a satisfied customer, and want someone with professionalism and experience in diagnosing your vintage/non vintage car HE is your man. Against doctors advise, It amazes me that he continues to work long hours with his boot splint and crutches. He should have been resting , icing and elevating that foot. Such good work ethic. I've been bringing my 1981 Fiat Spider 2000 to Rich now since approx. 2003 after trying 2 other Italian classic car shops. One shop tried to get me to sell him my car claiming saying it had an unsolvable over- heating problem, another was arrogant and very expensive charging Ferrari prices Rich knows Italian cars, specially Fiats , inside out. Along with his mechanic Sal, I get excellent service, the car is always ready when promised, and this is because Rich goes the extra mile. There is no drama- if you own an Italian car, you may know what I mean For example, he had made a round-trip run to Redwood City once to get a used steering rack for me and have it done on time. he didnt even tell me this, I found out afterward. Another time, I was convinced my brake pedal was spongy- Sal checked it out on the spot- no charge. Rich has rebuilt my front suspension , steering rack and brakes. Adjusted ill fitting doors, installed an interior light ( that I just could'nt get to fit ) etc, etc. The list goes on and on. Recently I screwed something up, instead of making me feel bad- Rich's response was - "Well, it could have been worse- don't worry- we'll fix it " Bottom line, I drop my car off and don't question any proposed work or any estimate - seems naive, but its because I trust Rich and his shop. Continental Motors really did a great job. It all started with a AC/Heater dial that was not operating correctly. I mean it just would not go on...and then 10 minutes later the fan would work. I thought about using the local Dodge dealer but made a call and they would have to order parts and could not answer all my questions except to look at the vehicle would start at $145 and would be part of the final cost. I did not feel comfortable with that. Though in fairness to the dealership I did not know all that was wrong. But Boy was I going to find out. This truck became an ordeal So the next thing was to find an auto repair tech to work on the side. So I went to the nearest dealer and found a tech going to his car after work. He did not want to work on the vehicle but suggested a garage nearby called Continental Motors. I called around and got different hourly rates. I finally went to Continental Motors. I am not sure why I chose this service repair company. I am glad I did. It was just a gut feeling. It took a great deal of experience and expertise to repair the Dodge Ram 1500 Mega Cab. The truck had 75k miles and is a 2008. What went wrong should have happened to a much older vehicle. I am disappointed in Dodge quality. Rich, took the time to call me and let me know the problem was bigger than just replacing a fan or fan motor. He was willing to put back the parts and charge me for labor only. I decided to let him do the repair since the dealership would have to order the parts from Dodge anyway. I am really impressed with Rich and Sal. Their craftsmanship is solid. And one of the things to note is they are pretty humble people. The repair took a while (Dodge sent the wrong parts) so they got me a deal with Enterprise Rentals nearby. If you are looking for talent, honesty, and good old American service this is the garage for you. Your in for a treat because the owner is the service writer, tech, valet all in one person. This transaction took me back to a time and place when I was a boy and my Father would go to see our Family Mechanic. The garage even has pet squirrels.
