I recently picked up a 2009 m3 and wanted to do all the maintenance right away. Mel came highly recommended by a friend so I contacted him and he was able to schedule me in right away. I did shop around, called about 5 different shops and Mel came reasonably priced. I did buy a bmw.. you don't buy a bmw and expect to pay Honda prices. Anyway, I dropped off the car, came back the next day and spoke to Mel, he did what I asked and then some! He inspected the car, scanned it and verified that the car is in great shape! He even installed my new steering wheel for me! If you are looking for a great shop for your bmw, I highly recommend this one. Mel is very knowledgeable and friendly guy. Mel will take care of you. If I can give Mel 10 stars, I would gladly do so. Thanks again Mel!

The two most important things that most of us look for in a mechanic are expertise and honesty. It can be hard to find a mechanic who's both an expert and honest. When it comes to BMWs, Mel at AMH is both. Ever since my old mechanic, Wes, at International Auto Clinic in Cupertino, retired and closed his shop, it's been a struggle to find someone who can match the level of service that he provided. I had been to Palo Alto Bimmer a few times, but after a few rather negative experiences with them, I figured I'd be better off not taking my BMW back there anymore. Based on his Yelp reviews, I decided to give Mel's shop a shot. I initially came in to get a second opinion on Palo Alto Bimmer's diagnoses. He did his own evaluation and confirmed their diagnoses while offering cheaper estimates than PAB's. After the aforementioned negative experiences with PAB, I brought my car back to Mel to take care of a few issues it had. He did a great and timely job at replacing the water pump and checking my car over for any other problems. Since then, my car's been running well and I have no complaints. Pros: + Competent: Mel is BMW-factory trained and worked for a number of years as a technician for Peter Pan BMW, so he told me. You always want to make sure that whoever works on your car knows it well, and Mel definitely knows BMWs. + Honest: One of the best ways to tell whether or not a mechanic is honest is if they try to save you money and whether or not they're pushy when it comes to your car needing work. On several occasions, Mel told me that I need not worry about certain repairs that I thought were necessary and he confirmed that my tires and suspension are in great shape (with the exception of some slightly cracked bushings, which I already knew about). + Fairly-priced: BMW prices are never cheap. Yet, Mel's prices, so far, have been cheaper than Palo Alto Bimmer and way cheaper than the dealer. + Uses OEM parts: Definitely important as it can be risky to use cheaper, aftermarket parts. Mel uses authentic, OEM BMW parts and when I was at the dealer earlier and brought AMH up, they told me they knew him and that he buys from their parts department. + Good location: His shop is located on Old Middlefield Way, right after you exit 101 north. It's also right down the street from multiple eateries as well as walking distance from Rengstorff Center where there's a Costco, In-N-Out, McDonald's, and Krispy Kreme, among others. + Personalized service: It's a one-man shop. Mel does everything -- He answers the phone, does the repairs, and writes you up. I like that because it's great to have a direct rapport with the person working on your car, unlike other shops and the dealer where you only really get to speak with a service advisor who doesn't actually do any work on your car. His shop is relatively small. The parking lot he shares with several other businesses can get crowded, he doesn't have much of a waiting room, and, AFAIK, doesn't offer any loaner cars. He also has to leave very briefly in the afternoon to pick his kids up. But if you drive a BMW and are in need of an independent shop that you can rely on to get the job done, pay Mel at AMH a visit. SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESSES. 4 stars

Rommel was great and honest. Dealer gave me a quote for around $1700 and he did all the work for $400. I highly recommend him.

Do u add mods ? Would you install a new intercooler, charge/boost pipes etc

No sorry Joy, I don’t do any modification installation on any vehicle.

Will you use non-BMW parts if a customer brings them to you? I have 2 thrust arms for a 2003 X5 that need to be installed.

Yes, I can install them for you. Please let me know if you would like to make an appointment. Thank you

Financially, they took no responsibility either. They didn't even end up refunding me for the oil change itself after saying they would! The car: 2002 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport. 180k miles. NEVER had an issue with an simple oil change before. When: June 26, 2026 (See attached proof of purchase) What happened: It seems one of the workers stripped/cross threaded the oil drain plug when removing and reinserting it, ruining the seal and creating a leak. As stated the car never had any issue with oil pan leaks before and last got a change months ago and still held the oil fine. They let my daughter leave with the leak (telling her to bring it back for a top up if oil gets low), and by next morning there was oil all over my garage floor. (See attached video for the leak) I called them and they did come out to clean up my garage floor. But they also said they could not do anything beyond that to repair the threading damage or the leak. So now I am left to deal with a car without engine oil, which is undrivable unless you want engine damage. It was either tow it to my regular mechanic 20mins away or top it off with oil and drive it 1 min to the nearest gas station mechanic. I chose the latter, and they charge me about $1k for the repair (also attached -- also the mechanic's confirmed the cross threading of the drain plug by oil changers as the cause of the leak). Did Oil Changers take any financial responsibility? This is actually where I say they are even more UNABLE to do anything to help. I called the manager and I was super nice since it was an old car and I understand that quick oil change places don't hire experienced mechanics. So I didn't even ask them to pay for the repairs, but ONLY TO REFUND ME FOR THE OIL CHANGE that ended up all over my garage. He agreed to do it, which is good. He said he needs "corporate" to process the credit. Sure, I agree to wait. One week, no credit. I call the store again, the manager says he left voice mails with corporate. Fine. Two weeks, no credit, the manager actually calls me and asks if I got it. Nope, not yet. It's now more than a month later, still nothing. Oh well at least I get a Yelp rant out of it! ;-) I did hold off this review for a month to give them a chance to follow through with the refund, and this review would not have been posted! Why we originally went here: first time customers of Oil Changers. I usually take it to my regular mechanic but I wanted to hand down the car to my daughter so I had her take responsibility for the service. She chose the place based on good reviews. Haha.

No one picked up and there was no returned phone calls. I am just going to go in tomorrow and pick up my car and take it to another location. Update 6/30: It seemed the mechanics were fine, I'm sure it is a capable shop. I finally got a call on Friday (1 hour before i was going in to pick up my car to move it to another repair shop). The nice person who accepted my car let me know that they had completed the diagnostic. I told him I was just gonna come in and get it since it had been 9 days since i had dropped it off and couldn't get ahold of anyone there. Plus on my voicemail on Tuesday i had said to cancel the diagnostic. I picked up my car and took it to another place. Also worth noting... I responded to the yelp response below on Wednesday with screenshots of my call log and the address where i took it. I got no response from that email address, no phone call, no nothing. I suspect the problems with this place are one or more of the following: * They have a LOT of cars onsite. My guess is that they are accepting too many and we would all be better served if they didn't over commit and said no to some of us. * I am guessing there used to be someone who was in charge of answering phone calls and responding to voicemails and communicating with the mechanics. Now there seems to be no one dedicated to this (though maybe an overworked mechanic who is stretched too thin). On Friday the person i worked with seemed to have no knowledge I had cancelled my diagnostic 4 days earlier. * Maybe they have an automated system for responding to one star yelp reviews... and it is not being monitored anymore. * Maybe their phone system is down or misconfigured and they are losing phone calls and voicemails. * Maybe the owner (or office manager) is sick. I hope they get better if so.
