The recent break-in at my unit, which the security cameras missed because they weren't covering my area, just shows how poorly things are handled here. To top it off, not only did the cameras fail, but I also found out that they never gave me the information about self insurance, that was supposed to be provided when I rented the unit. As a first-time renter, I had no idea I could get my insurance. The thieves took about $8,000 to $10,000 worth of stuff. If the security was solid and they had told me about insurance, I might have had a chance to recover some of it. It's frustrating that I found out they didn't provide the self insurance brochure at the time I rented the unit, or inform me that my unit was not covered by video. On top of that, I forgot to lock my unit during the chaos of going back and forth to move things into storage. I trusted that IF anything happened their cameras and gated access would help deter a break-in or at least assist in providing proof help out the police. To make matters worse, they acted very nonchalant when we informed about the situation. They didn't even bother to call back when they said they would when they got a chance to look at the cameras (which took a couple of days). The complete lack of professionalism is appalling. I'm really disappointed with the lack of security and responsibility at this mini storage place. Great security too but I had 2 things that popped my perfect bubble last minute. As I'm signing the paperwork I'm told there are gate hours (6a-10p). For me, that's a huge problem. I was told that 24-hr access could be arranged for an additional fee per month & it didn't seem like it was something that was ok. #2 Didn't know till I'd decided to rent that I would pay for the days remaining this month plus next month's rent & a service fee of $5 upfront! Wouldn't have been bad but the info seemed very last minute & I probably would've made other choices had I known before on either. But everything else is top notch when it comes to Mark's

2/3 of everyone's things were GONE…read more Me and 3 other Hendrix students decided to split a unit. We opted for a combination lock so we could get into the unit whenever we wished, independent of each other. We used it from December - August. In December, a couple of days after the unit was in use, there was no lock on the unit. I purchased TWO more for added security, with no help from Downtown Self Storage. One of us visited in May, and both locks were gone, and our bikes were gone. Downtown Self Storage did NOT reimburse us for a lock, and did not give us one of their locks for free. I was very disappointed. The man we talked to was a much older man. I called him up in May after the second break-in, and he put a lock on the unit until August. In August, he said he did not remember when I called in May. He said he was old, and didn't have good memory. As if me or my friends cared -- our stuff was gone, forever. My yoga mat, my lamp shades, my friend's luggage with cash and checks in it, multiple boxes... I gave him two dates, spanning around a month and a half, for him to check the camera footage. He said he would, and get back to me. He never did. I followed up in August, and he said the footage probably would have recorded over itself and he could not find it. Oh, what a helpful man, isn't he? SO, there is no security at Downtown Self Storage. No one checks the security cameras. No one cares about your possessions, and they are not motivated to help you. Try Waller Security Storage instead.

I hired All My Sons on February 14th to move me from my 2 bedroom apartment to a nearby storage…read moreunit, and my experience was beyond frustrating and unprofessional. When I booked, I was told the hourly rate would be $135 (discounted from $149), plus a 12% service charge, and that my starting total would be around $300 before they even began. I was very clear that I did NOT need any packing materials because I already had my own boxes, tape, and supplies. I was quoted $486 for two hours including the service charge and paid a $100 deposit. The movers were scheduled between 8:30-9:30 AM but called at 7:30 saying they were on the way. Once they arrived, my paid time started while I was made to go through paperwork that should have been handled beforehand. The two movers, Thomas and Xavier started at 8:50. At one point, Xavier literally stood there watching Thomas struggle with my bed frame, and when I asked him, "What are you doing?" he replied, "Looking." That alone speaks volumes about the lack of teamwork and professionalism. Around 9:20 AM, I received a call from a company rep asking, "How is it going?" At that point, nothing had actually been moved yet -- they were still wrapping my couch, which I never requested. I didn't make a big deal out of it because it had only been about 45 minutes into packing and I didn't want my dissatisfaction to impact how they handled my belongings, so I simply responded, "It's going." In my bedroom, nearly an hour was wasted trying to take apart my bed because they didn't bring a drill -- basic equipment for dismantling furniture. What makes it worse is that after spending all that time on it, the bed was still left sitting in my apartment, along with my dining table, gaming chair, several boxes, and other items. I now have to hire another company to finish a job that should have been completed. Luckily I packed my own kitchen up even though they offered a free kitchen pack! They would have never gotten to it at the rate/speed they moved . Without telling me, they left my apartment and went to the next stop while I was still packing. The stop was less than half a mile away , they were supposed to drop a bed off and reassemble it. Because of all the delays/lack of urgency , the bed was only dropped off, not set up. When we arrived at the storage unit, I was told my balance was $861, including $135 for materials I specifically declined. I didn't argue -- I simply reminded them that I had already said no to materials and was told I wouldn't be charged. They removed it, bringing the total to $756, which is still far beyond what I was originally quoted for incomplete work. Nearly $800 for incomplete work. No sense of urgency at all! I should've have had a camera rolling but I didn't think that would be necessary. What upset me the most was the lack of accountability. I didn't receive a single apology, thank you, or acknowledgment of the inconvenience. Instead, Thomas got on the phone with someone named Holly on speaker, saying he needed to be paid for all his time. She giggled and said, "I got you, you're good," as if my concerns didn't matter at all. This experience felt disorganized, slow, and misleading from beginning to end. I will never recommend this company. Oh and I decided to take a picture of Xavier after about the 3rd time I walked in and he was on the phone.. I'm not a hard person and I hate babysitting grown people but I guess should have told them to leave the phones in the car and move with urgency!
