Dear Lord, I have no idea why people are dogging this place with all the low-star reviews. I've been down here the past couple summers, and every time I've swung by Cookout, it's hit the spot. Look--this is fast food, so I'm not expecting a white tablecloth experience. But even with expectations set low, Cookout has consistently impressed me. The first time I ordered hot dogs, I'll admit I was a little thrown off. I'm from Michigan, so when we say hot dogs, we're usually talking Coney-style--mustard, chili, onions. At Cookout, I got these bright pink hot dogs with slaw. Totally different vibe. But I've gotta say... they were delicious. I've ordered them more than once now, from different Cookout locations, and they've been solid every time. Bottom line: If you're expecting a gourmet meal, you're in the wrong place. But if you want good food fast, and you're open to something a little different, Cookout delivers. I'm a fan, and I'll keep coming back. read more

I drove through recently for lunch. The service line was quick enough. The food is what it always has been - I like Cook Out's food. What I didn't like was watching a staff member vaping. I don't know what the regulations are about smoking while preparing food, but vaping and smoking are the same to me, and management should not allow it. read more

Usually never have an issue here. Tonight though was a different story. Line was reasonable. Could barely hear the girl on the speaker, halfway through the order the order taker switched to some smartass guy, who was rather rude. Ordered 6 milkshakes, 5 were fine. Number 6 was supposed to be a STRAWBERRY CHEESECAKE.... Somehow we ended up with a (barely) strawberry, CHERRY, BANANA milkshake... someone explain that please? Good little burger place! We had a house style burger and a plain burger, and they were very good. The fries were a little limp, but they were fresh and tasted delicious! The root beer floats are good, generous on the ice cream. Quick and friendly service. read more

Only this time, I didn't just not get my bacon wraps the way I like; oh no. I got two got-damn buffalo chicken wraps in this hoe. Now the lettuce on the bacon wrap, I get it, someone messed up a little; I could just take the lettuce off. But two completely different wraps? Nah, nuh uh, don't work like that chief. If you aren't a bored local teenager or desperate for a late night meal, I recommend skipping this Cook Out. The only reason I'm giving a two star review is because they make a consistent milkshake and they make a valid effort to serve people in the drive-thru quickly. Atmosphere is almost causing a wreck on 601 because cars are lined up into the highway, teenagers with nothing better to do (even on prom night) loitering around loudly playing music, and essentially everything is visibly dirty. Service is screaming at employees through a janky speaker system and they still can hardly hear you, an employee slinging food at you as fast as humanly possible no matter what, and being served with as little effort as humanly possible. Food depends on what you order, but it's always going to be inconsistent even if you're just getting pre-made/frozen sides. It's nothing for the place to have trash literally everywhere, and people skittering around the parking lot. I'm from Cana, and sadly I have honestly seen meth labs more inviting and have less burnouts. Again, they make a decent milkshake, but I would absolutely recommend parking the car and checking the order before leaving because they're bad to forget things and/or prepare things incorrectly. read more

Straight up awful now. Can't even get cooked chicken nuggets anymore. How hard is it to cook the food how you are supposed to. The fries are always hard it never fails anymore, kinda like McDonald's being that you can never get fresh good fries. The cookout in elkin is with out a doubt 10x better then mount airy. Mount airy cookout is not the way to go. read more

I went to this cook out in mount airy and told the girl my order so I pulled up to the window there was a guy taking the money and the girl that was taking orders look like she was making love to the microphone she was laying her face on it like she could not hold her head up , I order a Diet Coke and a mr pibb and a coke so they give me the drink tray and only marked the Diet Coke so I ask the guy which was the coke and which was the pibb he looked at me and said don't you know (Duh ) and I said nope do you and handed it back to him but what a smartass this guy was and the girl just laying on the microphone I definitely will not be going back there! Will not be stopping at this cook out anymore. My hands are clean and my mind is made up. Ordered the two hot dog tray with the usual sides and a reg size coke. $5.25 is the price listed on the board. I get to the window and it is now $7.60. Yes $2 extra bucks for chili and slaw I was told. When I asked the question the workers in the back just laughed because I even asked the question ab the huge price jump. It is obscene to charge extra for toppings such as chili and slaw. 99% of hot dog joints around this area do not charge for a dog all the way. The next jerk that cuts me off while I'm talking into the drive thru speaker is going to make me snap like a twig. Every time I go through the drive thru the person taking orders is a total jerk and will interrupt you every two seconds. I do not recommend eating here. Went thru the drive thru Sunday to get a couple of milkshakes. Banana Pudding and M&m. Both were great. Ordered a 99c hot dog all the way. Driving away I noticed they charged us 79 cents for toppings. Didnt like that. A hot dog SHOULD COME WITH TOPPINGS. Wont be back unless I get a craving for a shake. Nothing else. read more

I have been to this cook out (once eat in which was not an enjoyable experience, all other times drive thru) several times. I have always enjoyed the food. Today I had drove thru and ordered my regular cheese burger dbl fries and 1/2 and 1/2 tea. When I got home and opened the box I was so disappointed with what I saw. First the burger was so thin it didn't even taste like a burger! The "double" fries looked more like a small from mcd's. This is the first time I have ever been disappointed. read more

They have great food. I eat there often. I was a little upset the last time that I eat there. I ordered a 2 hotdog tray which was supposed to be 4.69 plus tax. They asked me what I wanted on my dog and I told them slaw and chili and when I paid it was $6.84 cents. Don't sell a weiner and bun and call it a hotdog then charge if you want anything on it.
