He made sure everything was perfect! We started off with the Cheese Sticks with both ranch dressing and marinara sauce! The marinara sauce was really good! The ranch dressing was too watered down for my taste!!! The cheese sticks were hot and fresh! Very gooey and good! He ordered the 13 Bones burger with fries. The burger had amazing flavor! The fries were a bit too salty, but they were perfectly cooked and served hot! I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich with their homemade chips! I ordered an extra side of dressing for both my sandwich and the chips. I just cannot rave enough about how amazing my entire meal was! Those chips were PERFECT!!!! You get a choice of Texas toast, hushpuppies, or rolls. My coworker ordered salmon. When the food came out, my ribs were wet. I told the server that I had ordered dry rub. He stated they were dry but had sauce on them. I'm sorry, that is not a "dry rib", in my opinion. The first piece of rib meat I ate was soft and juicy. The next two were super dry and I could not eat any more of them. My coworker joked that that was probably what they were referring to when they said "dry rub". The green beans were ok. I added a ton of pepper and some hot sauce. I saved the mac & cheese for lunch the next day. The hushpuppies were dense and needed a little more flavor. My coworker commented that her salmon was ok but nothing to write home about. I should have went with my first instinct and ordered from the kids menu. First time at 13 Bones. It appears to be a very popular spot in Mount Airy, which lacks steak houses and similar types of food. Anyway, my wife and I had a nice date and a dinner. The wait was about 30 minutes on a Friday night, but they have a nice outside area to hang out in while you wait. We were waited on by Kelly. She was super fun and engaging while really knowing what she is talking about. We had an order of fried pickles. Good stuff, hot, fresh, etc. At Kelly's recommendation, I had the special, crab cakes which were crispy fried and tasty. I'd do that again. The mac and cheese was pretty lame, too runny and tasted boxed. Hush puppies tasted fine, but had a stale texture... maybe just needed to toss them out and make some more. My wife had the "half chicken" which was pretty good, side of baked beans, (meh) and slaw (also average). The pattern seems to be budget sides, which is not the worst thing in the world, but could be improved. The entrees were good and the service was excellent. Good option for an area where there isn't too much available. The menu had something for everyone. I've decided to go with a couple of the specials and both happened to be seafood. The scallop appetizer was underwhelming. For the price of the dish comma I was expecting larger scallops. Also, they were a little overcooked and underseasoned. The Seabass dinner was nice and the fish was cooked properly. I had baked potato fomo because mine was tiny relative to other diners. Also, the biscuit could've been a bit bigger as well. Service was friendly and attendant also, this place seems to be in very popular with locals. The clientele was mostly older, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. So, I had a experience. This was recommended by the hotel as a great spot but this must be some other place. I arrived about 40 minutes to closing which I do understand that this wasn't the opportune time but since most meals are prepared I figured it would be ok. It has very limited beers on tap and the one I wanted was out, plus the can of beer was also out. The guy that served me was in a rush so when I wanted something he was rushed to get my order. I ordered the full rack of ribs, fries and salad. The salad was a simple salad but the fries arrived COLD and the ribs were dry. I asked halfway through the meal for new fries only because I never saw my server until then. I drank all of the water and my soft drink by the time he showed up. Plus, the replacement fries were also COLD and at this time i gave up. Even when he took the plates away I told him the second set were also cold he didn't say a word. Upon leaving NO One wished me a good night and it even seamed like the heavy set male manager was going to say something but not. This would not be a place it return to. They have a great waiting app that gives live updates though, so we waited in our car since it was chilly outside, but there's a huge covered patio with comfy seating for waiting in milder conditions. Once seated, service was spot on; drinks served quickly, decent beer/wine and a few local fruit wines from a local winery. Hubby had dry rub ribs and I had vinegar based sauce on mine. Both racks fall off the bone tender. House made chips with come back sauce awesome! Portions are large, prices reasonable, we loved it. But in this rural town, there aren't too many options for sit down dining that isn't Golden Corral etc. The hostess and servers were nice. Our server was taking her time coming to the table snd after we got the food we had to flag her down for more water, etc. I think she had a big table she was tending to. The food is not wonderful but certain things are fine well. We haven't yet tried the ribs; maybe they're great. The salads are bland even with a protein. Apps are limited to fattening stuff mostly. Burger is average. Don't come here if you crave a good quality steak. The cuts are not the best, and the steaks are a little tough. 13 Bones reminds me of the old Ponderosa except with beer, wine, and cocktails. Dessert selection is very limited as well. We live near a large city and are foodies so weigh this review accordingly. Food was not good across the board. e.g., Green beans direct from can, no seasoning or bacon grease (great disrespect to my southern heritage); Mozzarella sticks were cold; hospital grade mac n cheese; kid hamburger was dry, etc.. We did not try the bbq so maybe that would've been better. Service was meh - not warm or friendly but I wouldn't go so far as to say rude. She just seemed stressed out. The fastest thing she got us was our check. I think Yelp and TripAdvisor are saturated with paid reviews to bolster ratings. This restaurant is an example. Didn't have to exist long to be seated and our server was very prompt in taking our order. I had the salmon to which had great flavor and had a large side salad! Also very grissly and chewy the cut of meat was not very appealing it looked old and a very cheap cut of meat little marbling seemed old tasting. My husband had trout. I am giving this place four stars for two reasons, the service we got and also the blackened chicken. The server was extremely nice and although I didn't get her name I thought she was very helpful. I ordered a blackened chicken sandwich and hush puppies (the latter is why it doesn't get five stars). These hush puppies were probably the worst I have ever had, extremely dense, and tasted like they had been made hours ago. The server said that is the way they always are and offered to exchange them for the fries which were delicious. The chicken sandwich came with tobacco-fried onions (I guess a local thing) but was very tasty. The blacken chicken though was EXTREMELY good with excellent blackened seasoned flavors and very juicy. My wife got the blackened chicken salad which she said the chicken was just as good as the one I was having. Excellent price at around $24 for both of us with ice tea. read more

Either, I don't know what good food tastes like or the people in NC have a different taste for food. Started off with an appetizer, which was mushrooms, had a good taste but very greasy. Had ordered to share with my wife, who one had one and said I'm not eating that crap. On tope of that never got plates so we could share the mushroom order. Got a salad with blue cheese dressing, had to be the worst blue cheese dressing I have ever tasted and must of been watered down. The blue cheese dressing had the thiner consistency of ranch. Probably buy the cheapest than can to save money. I had ordered a full slab of ribs, this is what they are know for, and a baked potato. Well, first I had to pick pieces of aluminum foil out of my potato, from when they cut it open. I will say the toppings I got were ok except the sour cream it was watery. Now to the ribs, had to be the driest ribs I ever had and I mean dry, I only ate 3 and said that's it. My wife had the Trout. She said it was ok nothing great. Oh, forgot about the hush puppies. Absolutely the worst hush puppies I ever ate in my life. Took one bit of one and that was it. I don't understand I ate at many places in NC had ribs and hush puppies and up until eating at this place everything was good or great. To sum it up this place is the WORST. Hubby, daughter and I went to the Autumn Leaves festival in Mt. Airy over the weekend. We attended the Autumn Leaves festival which included arts and crafts, various festival food tents and of course the 13 bones catering truck. The line was long but it moved quickly. There was outdoor seating set up and plenty of other places to sit in the area. While I have not had the pleasure of eating at the restaurant itself, we were very happy with pulled pork sandwiches and grilled corn. The pork was tender and flavorful. The sandwich came with coleslaw and a soft buttery bun. You can get a vinegar or sweet sauce in the side. The corn was perfectly cooked. They cooked it in the husk as all reasonable people should. Once you order it, they shuck it and use foil and a wooden stick to fashion a handle for easier eating. Next time I am in Mt. Airy, I hope to make it to the restaurant proper. read more
