Beginning a city here proved to be a poor choice as the waterways were prone to periodic flooding. The City shifted to the northeast and this area was ignored and filled up with heavy industrial users. A huge flood in 1965 destroyed much of that infrastructure and provided an opportunity for redevelopment. The Greenway Foundation was a prime mover in the 1970s to create a park highlighting this area. A major update in the 1990s focused on floodplain management and further enhanced the park as a hub for the regional trail system. Today this is a highlight of Lower Downtown. Shoemaker Plaza begins at the REI building and extends down to the north edge of the South Platte River. The main park area begins at the south edge of the River and covers both sides of Cherry Creek. The trail system runs through this and continues north, south, and east. This is a beautiful space and exists in its own world, apart from the bustle of Lower Downtown. It is well worth a visit.

I tried re-connecting with old friends and used sites like meetup.com with no success.. That is until I found Nakid. They were hosting a beginning of season party at Jackson's, which I decided to check out. I discovered one thing about Nakid at this event, it's a social league more than anything. Needless to say, I had an awesome time and decided to join their Bar Sports league. Fast forward a few years.. I've made so many friends and connections through Nakid. I want to reiterate, this is a social league. If you're looking for an ultra-competitive kickball league, this is probably not going to be your cup of tea. This is an amazing league for people who want to meet more people and be social. Oh, and did I mention that we love to drink? I would recommend one of their beginning/end of season parties at Jackson's if you're a little unsure.

I visited during a very busy day looking for hiking boots for Colorado living and also Mt Kilimanjaro. Since it was so busy I was helped by someone in the shoe department who didn't quite have the knowledge to guide me to what I need. I ended up leaving with 2 pairs that I ultimately returned. Not the best but they were busy. HOWEVER, I went back on a less busy day, and Tom in the shoe department was an absolute angel. I told him what I'm looking for and he pulled 3 pairs out for me- size, weight, function that I needed. The second pair I tried fit like an absolute glove and I was in and out much faster and happier. Tom was super helpful and had the knowledge to vouch for this pair of shoes. Very happy, give that man a raise!

We got to try out some of the REI equipment, like tents, sleeping bags and camping chairs and got informed on many other things you should bring when camping and proper protocol and guidelines. Yelp Elite put this on, and what a great job Matt and the team did. Astro Coffee was there caffeinating us, phenomenal coffee/drinks. All-in-all not only is REI one of my favorite places to go and just walk around and look at all of the gear, clothing etc but the classes they do are really well done. I want to get more involved with these and any guided adventures they setup.

The equipment was clean and looked new. The safety video was really thorough and well done. We didn't eat at the restaurant above, but it smelled amazing! We had Jack as our guide and he was fantastic! He was knowledgeable, instantly remembered our kids (7 & 8 year olds) names and made them feel comfortable and brave on this fun adventure. And even cracked a couple cheesy jokes for them. He was very skilled and we learned he is an EMT in his other job. We felt like we were in very safe hands! We had mostly class 2/3 rapids on the "Taste of Whitewater" version that were exciting for our kids and for the first-time rafters in our group. We got to jump into the river off of a large rock at the end of our journey which was a highlight as well. The photo package was incredible and even included some video of our groups rafting. They charge $60 for the first raft and then just an additional $20 for the other included in our group. We usually skip out on photo packages for things like this, but after reviewing the photos we decided to purchase this time and I'm so glad we did! Would 10/10 recommend booking with this company and hope to return to the more challenging "Blast" version when our kids are all older!

Rafting the Cache la Poudre River - An Unforgettable Day!…read more Today was nothing short of perfect as we rafted the beautiful Cache la Poudre River with A Wanderlust Adventure. Under sunny skies and with the air at a comfortable 78°F (and the water a refreshing 60°F), we couldn't have asked for better conditions. Our guide, Captain Jack, was not only incredibly knowledgeable but also an absolute blast--his energy made the entire experience even more memorable. We tackled a series of Class I, II, and III rapids with a great mix of adrenaline and fun. By the time we pulled out of the water, we were soaked, smiling, and already talking about doing it again. If you're ever in the area and looking for adventure, this is one to add to your list!

MEET.WAIT.CHILL. Vying for worst run league in Denver,…read moreyou're better off joining bigger leagues like Volo and CityWideSports, which are better run and have games that actually start on time. We were in a 6 game softball league summer of 2023 and not single game started on time. A couple games had to end due to lack of sunlight and then finish the following week. Im not sure if they're aware that people plan their schedules around the games. One example was we had our first playoff game and the game had a timing change the morning off, and then we all received another email saying the umpire was running late 30 minutes before the game. Original game time was 530, then changed to 545, then 6pm....he didn't show up until 615pm. This was at a field with no lights and sunset at 730ish. We played a full game, but the following team couldn't finish theirs. If they knew they had scheduling or even staffing conflicts, why not play at a field with lights? Also the umpiring crew was horrendous. I give kudos to our game one playoff umpire, he was the first umpire they provided who knew the rules of softball. The others we've had issues...along with other teams with keeping track of outs, calling balls way foul a hit, balls a homerun when it's a ground rule double, etc. We've also played against another team who were sliding into our second basement and other fielders hard which would've been an automatic out at other leagues; safety was not an option for that umpire that game. Also we had the umpire on game 2 not keep track of the scores and they asked if we remember what the scores were for all games played that day! Only redeeming thing was that Mike is easily reachable and has been easy to talk to.

The tour lasted a little over 4 hours and is considered a half-day experience. Our guide, Aaron, was awesome! He is super friendly, funny, and full of great info about Denver and its history. Pickup was right in front of Union Station, and the tour started right on time (a few people in our group were running behind, of course haha). We made several stops along the way, and every single one had amazing views. We even got to see some wildlife: bighorn rams, elk, and a fox! Aaron was great about pulling over so everyone could grab photos whenever we spotted something cool. There were about 11 of us in total, which made it feel like a nice small group instead of a big crowded tour. It was our first time exploring the Rocky Mountains, and we're so glad we chose Aspire Tours. I would definitely recommend them...and don't forget to tip your guide.
