Affordable and offers a variety of recreation opportunities. There is a stand where you can rent water vessels, to lounge, or linger on the pond. They have pedal cars as well as other pedal rentals. The community center has an indoor pool. They offer many classes as well. The weight, and cardio area is clean, and overall a pleasant place- to get your training done. The price is affordable, especially if you and another person in your household, piggyback a membership. The membership to this facility gets you into all the other recreation centers in Denver with no added costs. This does not include outdoor pools, which have already closed for the season. That seems rather early, but I guess the kids are back in school already. So the only problems with the facility, are the weird oversized locker lock fixtures. My lock which has always fit, and I have been a member at quite a few gyms over the years, is not big enough. I was joking they are made by Playmobil, or another child toy company. You need a very large lock, and with everything you have to carry to the gym already, i think this was rather poor planning. Also in the weight area they have only one set of all the free weights above 15 lbs. It seems like many guests have poor gym etiquette, and hoard and do not re- rack their weights when they are done with their sets. No sauna or steam bath at this location, but their are others at community centers in town that are included in your membership. Parking is also kind of sprawling, and the entrances a maze of one ways. read more

Love this rec center. No matter when I go I feel like it's never to busy. Same with the indoor basketball court. Staff are friendly. Young active people work out here but it isn't showy, which motivates me. Also seems welcoming to many different abilities. Love the location. read more

I like this rec center a lot. I have only used the swimming facilities, so I can't speak to much else. But if you'd like to know about the pool, read on. I often come here to swim because it's not too far from my house and the hours work better for my schedule. Mondays and Wednesdays there is lap swimming from 6:05 - 7:15 pm, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays it is from 6 - 8:30 pm. Perfect for after work! They are also open on the weekend with a decent amount of hours which is nice. I never see too many people in there so it's not very crowded. The pool itself is nicely kept as well. It's not a brand new pool or anything, but it's clean and well-maintained by the staff. There are kickboards, flippers, and buoys for anyone to use. The swimmers here are pretty nice too, I've never had an issue with anyone. The staff is very warm and inviting. I've seen new faces almost every time I visit this rec center and they are always very friendly! I would recommend this for anyone looking for a good place to work out! Plus, it's right in the middle of Wash Park which is a great spot to visit either before or after your workout :) read more

I realize the City & County of Denver is in a budget cruch but there are some simple, low cost improvements that could be done to this facility. I always prefer to exercise at a public recreation center versus a private club but this one has deterred me from doing that. Lap swim was nice but it does get busy. The cardio and weight area is a little crammed and most of the time full of meat heads who don't seem to want to share the equipment with girls like me. This morning I tried out the Power Yoga class. I wish I would have stayed in bed. I realize that sounds harsh but the class was not at all what I expected. The instructor used terms like "high push up" position instead of "high plank". She didn't give very good directions and I felt a little lost (and I've taken hundreds of yoga classes- I can't imagine what it was like for a beginner). It doesn't appear that the staff encourages patrons to wipe down the equipment as spray bottles, paper towels and trash cans are hard to find. The high school life guards serve as front desk staff as well and many times act like working there is the last place they want to be (while texting, talking with friends, feet up on the desk, etc.). I also work in a public recreation center so I know it is challenging to find good help but I think with a little direction these staff could improve on their customer service skills. I would love to see some small improvements so I'd be more likely to return. read more

Here's a gem right in the Middle of one of Denver's favorite and best parks. Its located right in the middle of also one of Denver's best neighborhoods as well Wash Park. This is a nice facility with all the expected amenities of a Rec. center. You can get your Aerobics on, Push some weight and even hit the Hardwood and shoot some hoops. Back in the day this rec was in constant rotation for pick up ball and on one occasion I was getthing schooled by Chauncey when he was a high schooler and I was a mid 20's havent given up the dream yet Billy Hoyle! There used to be some intense and good pick up games here back in the day I am sure asking at the front desk will provide insight on to when to get the best runs in will enlighten you on days to come and play. So come here swim, bounce, shoot and sweat all for a fraction of the cost of going to some open all night work out facility. read more

I bicycle through Wash Park all the time on my errands and commutes through the city, so I was wholly unprepared the other morning on my way to swim some laps for how inaccessible the park's interior is to cars! I found an entrance on the east side, near Franklin and Kentucky. Parking ended up sparse, and the route through the park was all one way, so had I not found a spot on my first pass I think I would had to have exited the park and looped around again! Fortunately, I found a spot and didn't have to do that. The facilities looked pleasant enough, but I was only there for the pool. The locker room was nice, and the pool was pleasant. Lots of windows and natural light. But it was busy! This was at about 7:30 on a Friday morning, and the swimming was three to a lane! That was a little intimidating for me because I'm definitely a beginner swimmer, but everybody was very nice and welcoming. read more

The most charming and low key recreation center in town. Lovely staff who welcome you with a smile. Loads of NEW equipment, and it's been renovated as well, it looks absolutely great. There's plenty of treadmills that look out onto the park, massive beautiful trees left and right, it's a wonderful view ! Plenty of parking too. I've been coming here on and off for 32 years, and let me tell you, it never gets old. It's a bit of a family environment as well; kids, Moms, Grandmas swimming in the pool. read more

Great location - Wonderful Wash Park! What else needs to be said!? Newly renovated, clean, easy to use facility. Pool, weights, bikes, treadmills, gym, yoga, other classes, ettc,, etc., etc. Parking - not so bad, as you can park along the street there by the rec center, as well as around Wash Park. Better yet, parking is free! Don't really know what else to say.... we joined Denver Parks and Recreation for 1 year, and at the level we joined, we can use any of the rec centers, can't beat that. Yeah as many people on here are also saying, my time at Washington Park Rec. Center will be soon coming to an end. It's not that I don't like the facilities. The weight room is pretty well stocked and the swimming pool is just what I need to get a good workout. But they raised the rates here pretty significantly (to more than $30 a month) and I don't think I'll be renewing at that price. I'll probably have to stick with the so-called "regional" rec-centers that have a lower price and slightly fewer hours. All these recreation center changes are quite confusing and it's hard to say what the value is in paying extra just to access a few more centers. Too bad, because Washington Park is one of my regular gyms...I guess not for much longer though. read more

What a lovely little neighborhood gym. For $52 you have three month access to their basic exercise machines, free yoga classes, swimming pool, and more. Plenty of park on the street or in their parking lot. The best part is that the center is located in the park. read more

We came to this Rec Center the first time a couple of weeks ago and were pleasantly surprised! I think i's considered a regional facility, so it's slightly more expensive than the neighborhood facilities, but it's definitely a step up so you get what you pay for. They have a pretty sizeable indoor pool, which was what we were there to use. I think it was 6 lanes, and 25 yards? Anyway - full length and plenty of lanes. Parking was a cinch too. They have some parallel spaces in front of the rec center and we were able to easily grab a spot. read more

Great little gym. Basic, but it's affordable (until October*) and has everything you need for a decent workout. I've been a regular for about a year now. *The membership rates are doubling next month and I could afford some posh gym with more features and nicer facilities for what they will be charging, so I'll have to say goodbye. read more

You really can't get much better for the price. I use it mostly for the swimming pool to do laps but I have taken a yoga class here too. The pool can get crowded at certain times so I recommend going right when they open up for lap swimming. Most people who go here know that they are going to have to share lanes and everyone is more than accommodating about swimming circles or splitting lanes. The yoga class and instructor were OK but the setting just doesn't work well for a yoga class. They use the gym and it is cold and not a very relaxing environment. Would be fine for beginners that haven't taken a lot of classes before. read more

I have been a member at 24 hour fitness for the last couple years but was looking for something closer to my house and something that was a little more affordable. I went into Wash Park Rec Center to inquire about memberships. I found that their new prices (coming out in January 2012) were going to be about the same as 24 hour's prices. I was hoping that Wash Park Rec Center would be less expensive, knowing that I would be offered less amenities. However, if I'm going to be paying the same, I'd rather stay at 24 hour fitness where I'm getting more bang for my buck. Big bummer. read more

I love, love, love this rec center! I swim laps 4-5 times a week and the pool is just perfect. Not too cold, yet not too warm. The lifeguards are really friendly, and having done that dull job myself, I commend them. They're always ready to smile and chat. The pool and locker rooms are nice and clean. I go swim around noon, being as I work evenings, and the pool is never over-crowded. Be prepared to share a lane, but if you've got any swimming experience at all, you'll be fine with that. I am quite glad I got a membership here. The computer was giving them issues when I got my membership, and they did accidentally charge me twice. Once I discovered that, I simply brought it to their attention the next time I was there and they fixed it in a snap and refunded me the extra money. Lovely! Facility is nice, but they have very random hours, and close on random days.

The city has increased the membership fee for wash park rec center as follows (since I've been a member): Adults (ages 25-64) 2008 - $150 per year 2009 - $150 per year 2010 - $170 per year 2011 - $190 per year through July 2011 - $370 per year starting in Aug11 or Sept11 (tier 3 rec center) Given its limitations (small weightlifting area with aged equipment, sub-par locker rooms, sub-par hours of operation, etc.), this rec center at its new price point is no longer a viable option for the adult aged between 25-64, especially if you don't swim or play basketball. Btw, pricing has substantially increased for all aged groups not just the one I'm referencing. Not quite sure what the city was thinking with the tier 3 designation for this rec center. Tier 2 at a $260 per annum price point makes much more sense, which is comparable to 24 hr fitness pricing. But in actuality, fees for this fitness center should be less than those for 24 hr fitness given the aforementioned limitations. So this rec center will basically be a ghost town this time next year, which could be a good thing if you don't like crowded gyms ;) read more

I'm just starting to explore the Denver Recreation Centers and I find myself coming back to the one at Wash Park. I mostly go for the pool, which is very nice, clean and has never been so crowded I couldn't find a lane. Their weight and cardio rooms aren't terribly enormous, but honestly they have pretty much everything I'd ever need in a gym. Finding parking in front is sometimes a close call, but I imagine there's plenty in the surrounding area too. read more

Really good cheap option if you live in the area. Not super fancy but lots of machines so you never have to wait.

The quality of this facility has gone downhill lately. Pool temperatures are now erratic and many times cold (in the high 70's). So cold that seniors can't stay in the water and end up leaving the facility. Pool thermometers have been removed so patrons cannot check water temps any longer. Locker rooms are not well heated and typically chilly. Teenage lifeguards often leave doors to the outside in the pool area ajar through the winter. Locker rooms are not kept clean with personal wipes, towels, etc left on the floors. Many times multiple soap dispensers are empty in showers. Patrons shave personal body hair in showers and clumps are left to stay for days. Young children typically swim without diaper type protection and parents are never asked if children are wearing them. Older children throw basketballs in the pool area against the tiles and drywall with no reprimand from the teenage lifeguards (in fact the lifeguards joke with them). Signs have been posted recently that children under 18 are not to use noodles, etc. but they continue to do so. Today a homeless/potential drug addict was in the locker room for 2 hours with a suitcase and piles of filthy clothes. He was talking and singing to himself and "playing" with sinks and hand dryers. It is highly unlikely he paid the regional level Rec Center fee or that he scanned in at the entry. Such lack of control is at a minimum unfair to those who pay to use the facility and at worse a potential danger in the unmonitored locker rooms. Be aware that Denver Parks and Rec is run by a political appointee of Mayor Hancock (Happy Haynes) so oversight is weak (just look at the inaction on all the geese overrunning the parks). Still, Denverites should expect better. read more
