V A R I E T Y One of the largest selections I've seen for an REI, yet! They have everything from hiking, camping, biking, kayaking, canoeing, climbing, etc.. and so many brands and styles to choose from for each selection!

REI's anniversary sale is currently going on now (until May 26) but they also currently have their clearance sale going on, in which I was lucky to score a Columbia Sportswear brand jacket for 50% off. This REI location is the flagship store and is huge. The last time I shopped at this store was in 2015. Since then, I haven't really been in Denver since then (with the exception with a layover at the airport between flights). I wanted to come by here to see if I could find a nice heavy but not bulky jacket. I have learned that when you shop at places that have cold weather, you might be able to find better selection in winter wear (being from Los Angeles, there may not be nearly as much selection as other much colder states during the winter). I will say that because this is the flagship store, this store definitely had more choices for me in the clearance section, as I had already browsed through 2 other REI locations prior over the previous week (one in Fort Collins and one in Colorado Springs). So if you are looking for a particular item, you may ended up finding it here at this location if you weren't as lucky to find it at the other stores. If you shop at this store, be aware that parking is free for up to 90 minutes. There are 2 lots in which you can park at. But there is also a lot further down by the water that allows for up to 2 hours if you are willing to walk a short distance. Anyways, I shopped at this location yesterday afternoon, around 12 pm. My husband luckily was able to find a parking spot in the main parking lot. We were greeted by an employee upon entering and then I headed upstairs (please note that the restrooms are upstairs, in addition to the kids section, used gear section and shoes). There is a cute little kids area close by the used gear section. Anyways, I saw the clearance section (a mix of women, men and children) and found that women's jacket that I had mentioned earlier. After browsing through the rest of the store, I eventually made my way back down to first floor and to the cashiers (such a weird set up, but the entrance for the cashier line is by the fireplace. If you are facing the fireplace, you have to make a left to find the line). Please note that you have to be a member in order to shop here. I joined many years ago (more than 10 years ago) and believe I had paid $20 but I overheard an employee telling this couple in front of us that it cost $30 for a lifetime membership. But what he failed to mention is that you have to purchase something to maintain that membership (I don't recall if it is within a 12 month or 18 month time frame). And if you do not, then your membership will be cancelled. But because I do have the REI Visa, this allows for my membership to remain open, even if I do not purchase within that time frame.

This is the biggest REI! Great stop for browsing pricey outdoor gear, although they have a large resale section too. They have a climbing wall, which is pretty cool. We picked up a bear canister here, and my friend made some returns. I think they changed their parking rules because it's only free for the first 60 minutes, which was not enough time for this giant store, and they don't validate parking for making a purchase. We browsed a little, then waited in the line to make our returns. The regular checkout line was crazy long as there were only one or two cashiers. We had come here at 9am (their opening time) on a weekday, so we were surprised to see how busy it was. In the women's section, the fitting room was closed off, and there was a button to press to get an associate to open it. We gave up on waiting and just tried clothes on over our clothes, then we saw an employee come ten minutes later. Definitely felt understaffed for such a large store.

We love going to the REI at home and love outdoor activities so we had to stop by. They have TONS of outdoor gear and clothing to look at. They did have a decent size sale section and a cute kids area. The only downfall is if you're using a stroller or wheelchair there are lots of different ramps and levels so you will always be hunting for the elevator.

Biggest REI I have ever seen. The restored brick building is beautiful inside and outside. This is also attached to a Starbucks coffee which is very convenient if you want to walk down the river. Parking is free for first 90 minutes!

What once was The Denver Tramway Power Co. is now the REI Co-Op flagship space. HOLY MOLY, you must check out this MASSIVE place for all outdoor lovers! This building is three stories full of merchandise, including a wall climb, previously worn gears, massive clearance space, and anything related to outdoor merchandise. This store is a true gem for the city of Denver. Parking was free with validation. However, we came on a holiday, and the gate was wide open. After scouring through the area, I did not want to leave empty-handed, so we purchased a multi-colored fanny pack I had not seen in my area. The cashier was amicable as I did not know my REI number, so he looked up my information. He asked where my area code was from, and I told him Burbank. He then told me he once lived in Thousand Oaks but moved to Denver several years back. I enjoyed the small chat we had and seeing a Cali outplant.

I placed my order online this morning and it was fortunately ready by lunch. I was pleasantly greeted at the door and directed to the online pickup desk. The woman who got my order for me was very nice and efficient. REI also has a very generous return policy. All in all a fantastic experience.

It's a great place to shop for outdoor "stuff" of pretty much every kind you can imagine. But, the location by the water, the building itself (outside and inside), and the way the merchandise is displayed, make this a tourist attraction too. Very friendly and well-trained staff. Starbucks (separate entrance) is in same building.

Always love me a flagship REI! It is a grand store with many levels, so expect to get a little lost (fret not, the signs will guide you). My intentions were to find a specific hiking pant from a brand I enjoy, and with thorough inspection of the store it seemed they did not carry it. My second course of action was to purchase a similar pant, different brand. Pleased to say it ended up being a great purchase, 20% off (membership) coupon included! A few notes - BIG fan of their Clearance section, as it is a plentiful one. Employees were also very kind. Parking can get busy depending on time of day and the first 90 minutes are free! Overall, great experience(s).

Bottom Line: REI's huge flagship store filled with clothing and gear for outdoor adventures housed in a historical building. My husband and I went to REI on a Sunday mid-day and it was busy! I didn't need anything so I was really just tagging along with him and being open to some impulse shopping. Shoes, women's clothing, bikes, water bottles, puzzles, gadgets, etc. - I checked it all out as I made my way through this multi-level building. The amount of merchandise in here was quite impressive and everything seemed pretty well organized. I figure they must have an army of elves that come in at night to clean up and organize the place. Just kidding but having worked retail I'm thinking its got to be quite the effort to get everything organized at the end of a busy day. The store was a tad awkward to navigate. We didn't end up buying anything, in part because we didn't have much room in our luggage. When it was time to leave I wasn't sure how to bypass the line of 20 plus people at the checkout to get outside. Utilizing a compass we were able to make it out alive. When we visited the bathrooms were under construction and they had nice portable bathrooms on site but unfortunately their scent was lingering in the air. That incentivized us to get in the building quickly! What I liked most about the experience was the building itself. The huge brick building was built just after the turn of the century and served as the Denver Tramway Power Company building that provided power to the Denver streetcar system. The voluminous building has lovely brick work and interesting windows . I recall seeing a streetcar on the way to the parking garage and now I know why.

We were staying at the hotel in Union Station and did a self-guided walking tour, with REI being one of the stops. We stopped in on a Saturday and they were having an event for kids with different exhibitors and vendors. Yes, this is the OG REI location and has several floors and a wider selection of gear. We were looking for a very specific item -- wooden hicking sticks -- and didn't find exactly what we were looking for. Still kind of neat to stop in as an attraction anyway.

Wearing a 5lb raincoat saturated with water is insane. Fast forward to today. I'm waterproofing some other clothing items and think to myself that it may be a solution for the jacket. If I could make my soft shells more water durable, maybe I could do the same for the outside of the jacket? No shot. After a delicate cold machine tech wash, I pull the jacket out and the inner liner is destroyed and coming apart (image attached). This was the first and only wash I've done on this jacket. Followed the care instructions and took even more care of it than labeled. So disappointed in the jacket and the brand. I've submitted a warranty claim on their site so we'll see what happens. Will update the review. *it's a little hard to tell the condition of the inner liner with a photo, but this jacket is unusable now. The neck area is the worst but the inner liner as a whole is compromised.
