I defy anyone to find a better cookie purveyor than Cookie Time Bakery. I have been going for years, back when they were called Lakota Cookies. The gateway drug cookie for me was the Mocha Shortbread cookies, which I first found at Pemberton Market in Cambridge, and then noticed for sale lots of places around town. But when I found the mother ship it was all over. It's a good thing I no longer live in Arlington, or I would be in serious trouble. The variety of cookies is remarkable--linzer, tuxedo, florentine, shortbread, ginger, chocolate chip of course, butter cookies dipped in dark or white chocolate, you really need to look at the website to get the full appreciation of the creativity that goes into these cookies. There are always seasonal cookies on offer -- last month Christmas, now heading into Valentine's Day and soon Easter. The cookies are always moist and fresh, and you'd better plan to get there early in the day if you want your pick. I learned this the hard way when I sashayed into the store an hour before closing, mouth watering for my absolute favorite (now), the Toffee Turtle cookie. Those babies were long gone, so I had to "settle" for the next tier of favorites. In fact a few of those were gone as well. That'll teach me. Order early if you want an assortment to take as a hostess gift... you'll be sure to be invited back often as these cookies are showstoppers! read more

Fresh baked cookies! These cookies are so good! It is always such a treat to catch this place open and go inside to see what delicious cookies they have in stock. They have two cases filled with yummy cookies and depending on how many you are going to purchase they give you the appropriate size cute box which is very carefully packaged. This time we tried their lemon cookies, chocolate chip and Florentine and all were very good! I believe if you buy a dozen there is a discount but every cookie is little more than $2 but they are a nice big size. They always taste like they just came out of the oven! Nice and fresh! read more

I've been coming here for many years and have always loved the consistently delicious cookies. Originally, they sold out of a screen door attached to the baking kitchen and the cookies were $6.00 a dozen and huge. They were open really late too. Even then I knew it was too good to last. read more

I liked the cookies, but it just felt like it didn't quite have that wow factor that would get to a full five-star rating somehow. Not overly sweet, which was good, and is difficult to find. Also not overly buttery or greasy. The cookies I had were all cooked through properly, which is not a guarantee at some of the cookie places these days that are trying to go for a soft gooey center but sometimes mistakenly veer into underdone territory. read more

Oh my gosh. I had heard rave reviews about this place, but never got around to trying it since I'm not much of a cookie person. These cookies are the BEST I've ever had!! I'm not kidding. We bought a dozen cookies and almost every single one was a home run. The cookies are $1.75 each, which is pricey, but trust me... It's worth. Coconut chocolate chip shortbread - Vegan and SO delicious S'mores - the closest a cookie can be to s'mores while still being a cookie Butter pecan - DELICIOUS. Nutty goodness Butter - this is the only one I thought was just normal good and not wildly good. Still can't go wrong with it, though! Walnut crescent - walnutty goodness. A little smaller than the other cookies, though Florentine - their most popular cookie. Flourless and OH SO GOOD. It's so unique and crispy. You have to try this one. Peanut butter - also amazing!!! Coconut macaroon - the pecan filling might not be a crowd favorite, but I enjoyed it The cookies are not too sweet. They are the perfect combination of sweet and salty, and each one fits into its own theme in a unique way. The textures are all spot on. I NEED MORE. I'm coming back next week but I don't know if I can wait until then! read more

I heard about this place on a Facebook parents page b/c I wanted cookies for a Christmas Eve gathering with family. I arrived around noon time on Christmas Eve thinking there would be barely anything left but was happily surprised to see that they were fully stocked! I was quite impressed with the selection and purchased one of each of the festive looking Christmas cookies for a total of 12. After lunch, I took out my box of cookies, offering them to family, and left them on out on our main dining table. Due to food coma and not getting enough sleep the night before, I feel asleep on the couch. When I awoke, most of the cookies were consumed! By the end of the night there was only one cookie remaining. My daughter only got one and wanted more. We plan to return later this week to try out other flavors. These cookies are very high quality and make great gifts. I'm thinking this might be my go to place for edible gifting. read more

Quality cookies, but expensive at $2.45 a cookie (no volume discount). Employee behind the counter didn't greet me or ask me what I wanted, despite the fact that I was the only customer in the store at the time. The place gives off nickel-and-diming/cheap vibes - I bought 4 dozen cookies for an event (3 boxes) and wasn't offered a bag to carry them in. . .or, God forbid, a free cookie (not necessary, of course, but you'd think they'd at least offer you a cookie after you've just spent $118 on. . .cookies). I also got some side eye from a customer who entered the store while I was waiting for my order to be filled (because I was a guy minding my own business in a cookie store, I guess) - seemed to be an East Arlington type who, quite hilariously, gave off airs that she lived on Beacon Hill (apparently, having skipped Arlington Heights entirely) and, even more hilariously, thought I would care one way or the other. We needed food for a tailgate and because we're out of towners, we couldn't make anything. So, we decided to step up our food game and instead of heading to Costco, we decided to try this bakery. We ordered 2 dozen cookies ($21 per dozen) and they were a HUGE hit! I didn't get any pics because they were so nicely boxed. We ordered florentines, toffee chip, hazelnut shortbread, snickerdoodles, harvest oatmeal, peanut butter & chocolate chip. In hindsight, I should have halved the cookies so people could have sampled more! We will definitely be back the next time we're in town! read more

I can tell you from the very first sample that these folks do cookies RIGHT. Seriously. How right? Well, I'm a frosted cake enthusiast, so the obvious choice was Cookie Time's unassuming, lovely little birthday cake sandwich cookie. And I loved it just as much as cake! The buttery external cookies were crisp in the PERFECT way, somehow providing the same satisfaction as the richest, chewiest sugar cookie. Salt balance? On point. Texture? Ethereal. Flavor? Rich, vanilla heaven. And that FILLING! This, folks, was a super fluffy, if not downright whipped, vanilla frosting. Cake-worthy. Again, ethereal. And almost, almost the slightest touch cream cheesy(?), which provided yet another wonderful flavor meld with everything else. In fact, it was up there with Danish Pastry House's red velvet cake frosting, which is a true experience to behold if you're ever in Medford. As an added bonus, they even dipped the darn thing in something like white chocolate. Boom. Arlington Heights, I will be back. I regret not taking home a huge stash of Cookie Time cookies to sample here in Colorado! read more

Truth be told, I am not a sweets person what-so-ever. When I do indulge in desserts, I am quite particular and tend to indulge in more savory than sweet. I despise the traditional overly sugary frosting, and generally don't even care much for cookies. Nonetheless, I live in Arlington and work in Lexington, so I drive by this place every day. I've been hearing a ton of good things about this place for a while now, so on a whim I decided to stop in and grab some cookies on the way home from work to surprise the hubby (he loves chocolate and sweets). The place smells amazing, and the options were quite impressive considering it was late afternoon/ early evening hours. Seeing that they have a deal on a dozen (and after confirming that the cookies last a few days and/or can be frozen), I decided to splurge and go for the dozen to explore a few options. I packed a box with a nice variety for my husband- including chocolate covered chocolate, chocolate peanut butter, chocolate-cake ball cookies, coconut chocolate, the list goes on... In a small bag I selected 2 more vanilla-type cookies for myself (including one snickerdoodle and one almond-vanilla covered in chocolate). With such a variety to choose from, I ended up with 13 instead of the dozen. OK now here's the good part: Let me just tell you- these cookies are absolutely divine! I mean, trust me, the best we've ever had! Since yesterday I have sampled several and devoured two in full. After not even 24 hours later, I am not proud to say that these photos show the only 6 cookies remaining (doing the math, my husband must have eaten 5 since last night!). The cookies are moist, buttery, savory; and the ones I selected (that I tried) were not at all too sweet for me. Although we selected nearly all chocolate or some variation thereof, the cookies all have their own uniquely wonderful flavor and essence. Sampling a spread of different cookies from this bakery is not just "eating dessert", but a unique and whimsical culinary experience! I will have to be careful about purchasing cookies from here in the future because they are, in a word, irresistible. Be warned! read more

I recently stopped into Cookie Time Bakery (formerly known as Lakota Bakery) to pick up various desserts for a family event. Their selection is amazing and changes daily, so be warned that if you come back for that cookie that you loved the last time; it may not be there this time. From traditional cookies to macaroons the selection is fresh and exciting. The salted caramel was a big hit as were the chocolate filled macaroons. The peanut butter sandwich was a personal favorite....well tied with the toffee chip cookie. I felt compelled to buy traditional chocolate chip to satisfy those less adventurous, and they were fantastic as well. I am very much looking forward to my next stop to try more of the menus, and probably a few of the same because they were that delicious! Also of note it that this is a cash establishment. Street parking, so plan ahead. There are many cookie varieties; some are classics like chocolate chip and snickerdoodles, others are fancier like macaroons and raspberry linzer cookies. We got a full dozen because COOKIES. All of the ones we tried were good. These are rich buttery cookies; some of them might remind you of the old fashioned spritz your grandmother made mid-winter. And a few of the cookies were stellar - lemon macaroon, peanut butter buddy, and lemon cream sandwich were A++++. I'm a big baker and I make a lot of very good cookies myself. I didn't expect to find a single cookie that wowed me, and I'm delighted to be proven wrong. read more

I thought I'd have to throw away cookies three through five after eating a chocolate and lemon macaroon from a bag of five cookies. The chocolate macaroon is the best cookie ever. Seriously. I'm comparing iced fig from Mike's, linzer from Lyndell's, Modern's dried fruit and nut whatchamacallit... Please, spare yourself the agony. If you get the chocolate macaroons, eat them last! The third cookie I ate was the raspberry linzer. For a linzer it's mindblowing. Get the order right and you can build a cookie crescendo that will thunder with satisfaction. read more

Lakota Bakery sells crack cookies. Seriously. Since I found Lakota last Thursday, I have had it three times. I make plans around dropping by Lakota for a cookie fix. They are so rich and buttery that you can have just 1 or 2...a day. Cookies are about $1.40 piece, I think $16 for a dozen. Today I had a craving for Lakota, but couldn't make it there in time, so tried to satisfy my sweet tooth at, Darwins. And to my delight they had Lakota cookies! Divine intervention, I say. Lakota will be taking my wallet and my waist for all they're worth. My favorite is the lemon macaroon - sweet, tart, buttery, sunshine in your mouth. read more

Geesh this place is pricey. It is a mom and pop shop. I get it. But $21 a dozen is not cheap. The cookies were delicious. Made with love. LOL. But really. Just a fresh homemade taste. Legit the best cookies I've ever had. I discovered this bakery years ago and have enjoyed them ever since. They are my go to for dinner parties, holiday events, showers, long work meetings. These are the best cookies I've ever had- seriously! They are expensive; however, they're worth every penny. My favorites are the coconut shortbread and any of the sandwich cookies- especially the mint. You can't go wrong with these cookies. I buy 6 boxes of 1 dozen cookies for neighbors and friends every Christmas. These people can't wait for me to come over. Their kids almost knock me over coming into their home. Ok. Many years ago my sister regularly came all the way from Brookline to Arlington for some group events but she also made sure to make it a sojourn to the former LAKOTA BAKERY. Same incredible quality selection and offering from same management but the explanation on the name change still baffles me. BOTTOM LINE: if there were a ranking of best cookie shops in the US this would be at the top! read more

Somehow I stumbled upon MA-France nearby in Arlington and they sell jambon-buerre sandwiches. It's a small shop that sells sandwiches, pastries, and a small offering of French food products. Lots of pastries and baked goods like quiche, tarts, cookies, croissants, etc. The cheese offerings were very limited and basic. I can imagine that the cheeses that they sell are the same types and brands that they use for making sandwiches. For example, they sell President brand Brie - that you can also buy at Costco and market basket. Disappointing, but understandable because they can't afford to buy more variety and more expensive offerings without a big enough client base to buy those cheeses before they go bad. Getting back to the sandwich - it was half a baguette with some thick slices of butter and two pieces of French bistro ham. The bread was kind of dense and the crust was more chewy than crispy. I was disappointed that they didn't bother to spread the butter, but if they're not selling enough sandwiches then they're probably keeping the butter in the refrigerator - making it too difficult to spread. When I got home I fixed up the sandwich to my liking. Overall, the sandwich was okay, but not good enough to make me want to go back. At least I was able to solve my hunger for the jambon buerre sandwich.

Now it's quite underwhelming. The apricot croissant is now some smaller glorified danish that has no richness or personality. The plain croissant is quite "bready" now, whereas it used to be light and buttery. I have a sneaking suspicion that they have a different croissant supplier now. What saved this spot from a lower grade is that the pain au raisin and chausson aux pommes are passable. Also a save is that they still offer various French products, from soaps to cheeses to canned goods. I have to find a new French bakery in the area.

This is quick and convenient. There is a pretty menu of the items available in the window of the store. This is my favorite bakery in the greater Boston area and I'm lucky that it's near my home.

There also a to go section with avgolemono soup, tzatziki and yogurt and all are so yummy. They also carry imported Greek goodies like feta and olive oil and jams. It's becoming rare to find a working bakery in a neighborhood, where the owners and staff are actually in the back baking from scratch. And the results are outstanding.
