My youngest let me try her chicken enchiladas ($12.99) - pretty good! The other girl had a cheeseburger which she seemed to enjoy ($13.49). My heart was set on the "Cook's Favorite Con Queso" ($15.99) - "A hamburger steak topped with our own homemade green chili cheese sauce, sprinkled with cheddar cheese served with rice, beans, red chili salsa and basket of tostadas." The green chili cheese sauce was amazingly hearty and mild with spice. I did not want to stop eating it. Lol. I was not, however, a fan of the red chili salsa at all. It tasted too much like Pace Picante Sauce to me. The service was really great. Plenty of free parking. To date, they only had a sign that said "Restaurant" on the outside, so it was hard to tell if we were at the right place. No wonder my work crew always eats here when they travel to the Clovis area. She strives to take care of the customer in every way so kudos to Cook's for having her as a valued waitress. The food was great also but I have to brag on Judy. My food, eggs, ham, hash browns, biscuits, gravy was well made and delicious. I also got the cinnamon roll. It was huge, almost took up a whole dinner size plate! It was also scrumptious. I'll be having it for a snack later today. The service was excellent and I was checked on several times but not annoyingly so. The restaurant is a typical diner style restaurant. Everyone was so friendly and our waitress suggested that we have the tenderized pork tenderloin with a side of gravy and my wife had the hamburger basket both were outstanding The place was a 10 for the food and the staff and it seemed like everyone knew each other! This place doesn't even deserve one star. The food was so gross. My husband and I didn't eat all day and usually when you're hungry everything tastes good. This place tasted like something you would feed your cats. I ordered chicken noodle soup and my husband got fried chicken steak with mashed potatoes and a side of fries and ranch. The chicken tasted so old and the oil it was fried in must have been old too. They must have been reusing the oil and frying everything in there. Mashed potatoes and gravy were tasteless but you can tell it was old. Reminded me of like baby formula. The chicken noodle soup was probably just heated up from cans and just tossed some canned chicken into it. The macaroni in the soup was overcooked and falling apart. Chicken was over cooked too. It was nasty so I tried to add some flavor and added Tabasco sauce and I still couldn't eat it. We barely touched our food. The only thing that was decent was fries and ranch. Someone smoked in the restaurant....and how can you eat and smoke in the same place.?!!!?!! Waitress was nice though. She asked if the food was good and I didn't want to be rude to her because she was nice. But it was terrible. Probably like prison food. Literally just had one of the best smothered burritos I've ever had. The salsa was thicker than most places and delicious, the large chunks of tomato and peppers were just right. The steak is a bit expensive but I'm anxious to try it next time I come in. The waitress was new but did a great job. She didn't know the answer to a question I had asked but she was quick to find out. I really appreciated that. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that one of the regulars kept staring at me while I ate and it was really starting to piss me off. They should ban the white haired guy with glasses before someone smashes his face into the counter. I had breakfast for the first time here, at 3 in the morning, with four of my friends who just graduated from college. Food was fantastic and so was our server until it came time to pay for our tickets. We all paid in cash and she never came back with the change. Terrible. I regret wasting my money on this place. The vegetable beef soup was room temperature AND only had 1 piece of beef in it. The bacon on my blt was also room temperature and tough like it had been pulled out of the fridge from yesterday's leftovers and then left sitting out until it reached room temp. The tomatoes were soggy and the lettuce was limp and the sandwich was overwhelmed with miracle whip!! I hardly managed to eat any of the food. Just gross. The place was clean and the ice water was in a nice clear glass and tasted good. The waitress was nice but not very attentive. Partly because the majority of them are sweet old ladies that would pretty much remind you of your grandmother. I usually get the No.3 or the No.5. The eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns are cooked to perfection. However, if you order something that does not come with pancakes. Then order a side of pancakes! If you come here with one other person, I suggest you just order that one side of pancakes because they are huge!! I've been to Cook's probably 5 times in as many years, and I always get the chicken enchilada plate with rice, beans, and their delicious chips & salsa. Snooty travelers from other states won't appreciate the home cooked quality this place has to offer, and get upset when it's not as good as the Manhattan sushi restaurant they ate at days earlier. Worst meal I have eaten in Clovis NM. We were really hungry after a long day of packing and moving. This place should be featured on restaurant rescue. We ordered 2 chicken fried steak plates and a ribeye breakfast. The two chicken fried steak plates were inconsistent, one had a large steak on it and the other one was tiny. The gravy was tasteless like a flour and water paste...The salad that came with the chicken fried steak plates, the lettuce was transparent, and slimy because the lettuce had gotten frozen. We were brought out soup after I pointed out the quality of the salad to the waitress. I wouldn't serve a person the salad they brought out...The ribeye came out a few minutes after the chicken fried steak plates, it was ordered medium rare and it was well done. After about 15 minutes another one was brought out. It was better. The manager came over and tasted the gravy on the chicken fried steak and said herself it was awful. We were also told the cook didn't specialize in cooking steaks???We were discounted one chicken fried steak meal. The French fries, ranch, and the crackers & butter I ate were the best thing I had at this restaurant. We should of went somewhere else. read more
