First, this company is no longer owned/operated by the Coomes family. Apparently the Coomes sold the company some time ago. We had them install a new a/c system in 2011 which failed constantly immediately upon installation. They came out over and over and couldn't figure out what was wrong. One night a couple of weeks after install, the electrical panel in the furnace closet for the system caught on fire. Had we not been home, our house would have burned down. They came out the next day and found that their installers (not the guy that came out to quote the system) did not wire the system properly. Once that was finally done properly, the system performed okay but has always put out very high humidity. They came every year to service this Carrier unit for the entirety of its 10 yr warranty. At that time, we switched to our neighbor's HVAC company to perform its annual maintenance for the next 3 years. We also change the Honeywell advanced filters every 3 months, instead of the recommended 6 months, to keep the system clean. Saturday of Memorial Day weekend we heard a thumping noise in the furnace closet and turned OFF the thermostat immediately and called our neighbor's HVAC company to come look at it, but their techs were taking off the entire weekend until Tuesday, so we called Coomes - they had installed it, after all, so thought maybe they could repair it more quickly. A tech came out and spent about 15-20 minutes (most of that at the compressor unit outside, even though we told him and the person who answered the phone, that the problem was with the fan blower assembly in the furnace closet inside the house) and took a few photos of the coils and one pic of the fan motor and declared that both the compressor and fan blower motor needed to be replaced, and that cost would be almost $5,000.00 for the compressor, and almost $4,000.00 for the fan blower assy IF they could even find either one of them, and this would take at least one week IF the parts could be found, so what he recommended was that we just purchase an entire new system for between $22k - $29k. He had spent less than 20 minutes on the premises and was quoting an entire new system and going on about the financing and saving sales tax, etc. and that made us VERY uncomfortable. For this, we were charged an $89.00 service call. We told him we were going to get a 2nd opinion. He also left the thermostat turned ON, which would have put a great deal of stress on the compressor had we not noticed it and turned it back OFF. We waited until our neighbor's HVAC company was back in town and after spending over an hour going over the inside and outside and testing every component in the system, he found nothing wrong with the compressor at all and the only problem found in the entire system was that the fan blower motor had died (which we already knew). The price to replace the fan blower motor, including labor, came out to $895.00 AND the part was IN STOCK LOCALLY. We did call the new owner of Coomes HVAC, (that used to be in Duncanville, but now it says Midlothian), and they agreed to destroy the $89.00 check we wrote for the "service call" after this situation was explained. The person who answered the phone when we called for an emergency repair was told why we were calling - we were looking for an emergency repair. We believe we were being scammed - or it's possible these new owners are not interested in repairing an existing system, only in selling new ones, so they overprice a repair. Whatever the case is, based on our situation - we suggest you research the current owners of any business, and get first-hand referrals or references plus a 2nd and even 3rd opinion on anything quoted. read more

We walked over possible problems and Josh was super knowledgable and knew exactly what was going on. He provided a variety of options for repair and information on future needs. I am beyond pleased with Coomes! I had another well known company (starts with "E") come out and they told me parts had gone out on my A/C that were still new. They quoted me right at $1,000 to repair. When I questioned them they were rude and condescending. I called Coomes and they sent Jimmy out the same day and he was great! He found only one part needed replacing and the cost was $400!!!! He validated that the motor was almost new and did not need to be replaced. When he installed the part he was not satisfied because he said although it was new it seemed to be warped. He came back the next day with another new part that he said was not warped and would function without rocking and vibrating. Coomes treated me with respect and they were honest. I discovered this great place last year. Needed someone to properly seal that ac/heat tubing things in the attic. I began to explain heating problems in rooms facing north and they had great suggestions. We did some and was amazed at the difference in airflow. These people are REAL people, not fake. If they need to research something they aren't familiar with they do it. They don't dance around and charge you a arm and a leg. The staff is VERY polite. Even had a guy come in full of tattoos and could probably pass for a gang member but he was the most polite, respectful and very knowledgeable on ac/heat systems. It was a pleasure to have him and everyone else from the company come to my house. Had Mario at my house recently to take a look at a issue with my humidifier. While troubleshooting he noticed water backflow coming out through some overflow thing. He got something from his truck to blow out the blockage but then decided to take a look at where it drains in my bathroom. There we found the problem. The drain tubing thing was completely blocked with junk! it was so gross. I was so thankful that Mario went above and beyond to find out the root cause of the overflow leak. He could have easily told me to get with a plumber. I plan to get on their maintenance plan so they can make sure my system stay in shape. Company is only interested in making money. I know my system was low on Freon. Tech came out and quoted $250 to top it off but could not tell me the price per pound or how many pounds were needed. Declined his offer. Found another company that added Freon at $25/lb total was 125. Half the cost. Moral of the story, don't use Cooms Air, they seem to be taking advantage of people. read more

I called Coomes after noticing a temperature issue in my home. The rest of the house was cooling to the set 73 degrees but the master bedroom was around 78 so it was very hot. I called in and they were able to have someone out within a day and it only cost $50 to have them do a diagnostic test to see what was wrong. Other places were quoting $125 just to come out! The tech looked around in the attic and noticed that the area to the master had a hole so the air was not being directed to the room properly. He mentioned they have a annual membership that basically you pay $19.99 per month and get free filters, and free service calls whenever you need it plus discounted service on whatever needs to be done. They also do two system checks - one in fall and one in spring to get you ready for the severe heat and cold. I signed up immediately as last year I had to have AC techs out two times in the summer and filters alone cost about $25 each time I replace them. During the first service call the tech did not have the 12x12 filter in stock that we needed but they scheduled someone to come back just to install it! Very good customer service and affordable. Referred by a neighbor and I have since referred them to another. Nothing short of super! I had major problems with one of two HVAC units. Coomes found an affordable solution. A few days later, another part failed and they came back and tried to charge me less than it cost them for the part because they felt bad about my situation. Victor performs most of my work and supervised other visits. He even returned a couple of days following one visit, climbed onto our roof to make sure the work was done properly. I wanted a quote to replace two old, but working units. These people wanted to charge me like I was building from the ground up! 16 thousand dollars! That's 8k per unit when the 2019 high State average is 5.8K for an installed 4ton 16 seer unit. When I addressed my concern of the pricing with the rep, he became a little hostile. I laughed because I halfway expected it. He didn't like answering questions nor being persude on his answers for follow up information. He eventually invited me to call him when my unit quit working to come on out and fix it. Not that I would, but that would STILL be cheaper than 16K! Then again, maybe not, LOL. Not a very professional saleman on top of overcharging, then acting as if I'm wrong to not want to be gouged by his company! But I get it, he knew he had lost a sale and therefore a very hefty commission. After all commission on a 16k job would be pretty nice indeed! He certainly lost my business. read more

Called them at 3:50PM, and they were able to send someone out by 5PM same day. Our guy was extremely polite and diagnosed our problem for $40 (standard flat fee) and then discussed what the issue with our heating problems may be. I'm a very inquisitive person but know nothing about heating and air but he spent the time to type about our time of electric system versus a heat pump and explained other questions about heating tips to keep the house cost effective without any signs of agitation, although I'm sure it was past his clock out time. This place in my opinion is only interested in taking your money and trying to get as many service calls from you as they can before possibly repairing the problem. I called them on friday and they responded monday and was out here 10mins before deciding to put freon in and thats it. They didnt look for a leak and they didnt even try to figure out the problem. I called back to the company to speak to a manager and I was told that if the freon leaks out they they will come back out. So they want me to suffer through another hot weekend and loose time from work to call them out for what? Obviously they have no concern about the real issue. do not use this company. after making repairs to our ac unit we were double charged for a part. after speaking with the receptionist and the technician that charged use, and looking at the invoice, they both agreed we were owed a refund of over $100. the receptions said she would tell the owner we were overcharged and he would issue a check. it's the end of september and no refund. now the receptionist is saying there is no overcharge. every time we talk to this lady there is a lie involved. my husband asked for an invoice, she said she would send it. i called and asked for the invoice, she said she didn't know she was suppose to send one. how the hell we suppose to know what's on the invoice if you don't send the damn invoice!! dumb ass woman. again, don't use this company, you will be overcharged!!! piss poor customer service!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more
