What a beautiful place to hike (without your dog, however). Our six-mile perimeter hike offered forested stretches and oak canopy sections, and big, open vistas of the Tualatin Valley. Plumbed bathrooms and ample parking at the trail head are available. Consistent signage kept us in the right direction, and an easy to read map guided our hiking decisions. Cooper Mountain Nature Park is a great spot for getting outdoors and enjoying some fresh air. The trails are well-maintained, and we love that there are three different routes to choose from: Little Prairie Loop, Cooper Mountain Loop, and Larkspur Loop. We took about an hour and a half to complete a 3.5-mile hike with the kids, starting from the parking lot, exploring the Little Prairie Loop, and doing a full circle around the Cooper Mountain Loop. We avoided Blacktail Way since it takes a bit longer to get back to the parking lot, but it's great to have options for all hiking preferences. One of the best features is the trail maps along the way--super helpful and makes it hard to get lost. It's always a joy to step outside and enjoy nature here. There is a small playground kids can also enjoy next to the parking lot. Highly recommend! read more

This is a beautiful park. Great walking trails. The only bummer is this is a dog free park.

Nice place for some morning exercise. Signage is great, and you've got a few trail options, some with slight elevation. We arrived early Sunday morning to try and avoid weekend crowds. The paths are wide enough to pass other visitors easily though. Springs flowers are still plentiful right now, although for me the views here aren't quite as great as so many other parks and trails around our area. Today we stuck to the outside perimeter trail only, and there's at least a decent amount of shade along that route. We saw and heard loads of birds, and near the end of our walk were treated with seeing a fawn just inside the cover of brush and trees being tended to by it's mom...such a lucky and sweet moment. Nice park with gravel travels, so even if it's rained recently it shouldn't be muddy. There are several trail options depending on how far you want to go, and the trails intersect so you can take different routes and make your trek shorter or longer. Thankfully all the trails are well marked with signs and a small map at each intersection. There are just a few sections with minor inclines, so it's a relatively easy walk. And no dogs or bikes allowed here, so it's pretty peaceful. They have some picnic tables adjacent to the parking lot and a very small playground area for younger kids. The downsides: -restroom facility only at the parking lot -parking lot is relatively small compared to how big this place is. When we were leaving there were cars lined along the road to park since the lot was full. -you must stay on the trails due to habitat restoration & extensive poison oak on the grounds, so no lounging or picnicking in the grassy areas, and no playing frisbee, etc -the majority of the trails are exposed to the sun, with a few sections in the shade at mid-day, so depending on what time of day you go, and the season/weather, it may be very hot & sunny -the majority of the informational/educational signs along the trails are very worn and faded and/or torn so you can't entirely read them. (this does NOT apply to the map/trail signs, or the new educational signs near the parking lot) read more

A family friendly trail that is easy to maneuver. This path is perfect for a toddler led hike through trees and brush, looking at the moss on trees, counting the rings in a tree stump and for viewing little insects. It's a great path, too, for a quick run, a leisurely stroll with friends, and a quiet breath of fresh air. A small playground sits atop, jus off of the parking lot to entertain the littles as you stare in awe at the valley below. read more

Great beginner hike. Decent parking during off hours, weekends are busy so parking can get difficult. Family hike, okay for kids but pets not allowed. A great advantage of this place is hikes can be customized based on capability. The smallest loop is about 20 minutes and longest is about 60 minutes. Dogs are not allowed here (YES!!!). Finally a place to escape those barking beasts! Many parks in the Portland suburbs allow dogs on leashes but far too often their rude owners think THEIR dog is an absolute angel and is above the rules and let it run all over the place, making a mess, and harassing visitors and ducks/squirrels. About time we got a couple more parks here that take a no tolerance stance to this menace and put the needs of the native animal inhabitants first. The only downside to this place is that it's built on a hill and the trails naturally lead down, which seems gradual and fine as you leisurely go down, until you get to the bottom and realize how far you've come and now have to go back up. Bring plenty of water, even if you don't think you'll need it, because making the hike back up to the parking lot can take a lot out of you and even on a cool day you'll heat up fast. But it is worth doing the full loop since you can see eagles, hawks, owls, rabbits, and other neat things that are not afraid to show themselves in the absence of dogs. -1 star for the rugged terrain, but +10 stars for keeping a nature park natural without infecting it with unnecessary dogs. read more

Definitely a gem! We stopped by the other day when the weather was great. This nature park is one of the cleanest we've been to since moving to Oregon. The trails are mapped out and all have cute individual names. We decided to take a shorter trail- I believe it was called "Prairie" something. BEAUTIFUL! Trails were beautifully taken care of and were smooth with gravel. The trees shaded most of the walkways and kept everything very cool. They have a few children's toys to play on, which my boys got a kick out of. Parking is ample, also! But my favorite thing.. the views. Wow. I honestly did not think this place had the views it did! We will definitely be back in the warmer and more dry months to explore some more! read more

Got back to the car after a lovely mid-afternoon walk and needed to use the bathroom but was asked to move my car and leave because an entitled Karen who was holding up traffic (and pissing people off) in the lot wanted my parking spot. This my favorite quick outdoor spot on the westside. I live in Beaverton, so it's only 10 minutes for me, but it truly feels like leaving the city and being out in the wilderness. Once you are out on the trail, there are no sights or sounds of the city. I like to hike through here and mix up my route from 1 to 3 miles depending on how I am feeling. The parking lot, nature house, and play area are at the top, so no matter which route you take, you go fairly steeply downhill. Coming back up the steep hill is what makes it such a good workout. I keep telling myself that I have to keep going regularly until I don't huff and puff on my way up :) I've taken a 4 year old to play at the playground here and she loved the non-traditional playground equipment. It's also great to have the bathrooms - sort of like camping potties, but better than a portable toilet any day. I'm also looking forward to trying out one of their yoga classes. Can't beat that view. read more

Gorgeous park with lovely views. Quite a few loops for nature hiking that range in distance. Great for kids or just a nice stroll. There's also a small play area for kids with a slide and bars. Picnic tables that are ADA accessible sit along the play area. No bikes are allowed on the trail and the grounds are well preserved natural areas with some fun wildlife. read more

This was a great place to go for a walk and overlook some of the beauty in Oregon. It's very simple and well paved with gravel walking paths. It is also well mapped, so you know where to go. The air always smells sweet here. I don't know why that is, but I love it. Cooper Mountain is my favorite park in the entire Portland metro area. Let me tell you why. There are no other parks out here I have seen that feature as much ecological diversity. Oak savanna interspersed with prairie and conifer woods give visitors alternating views of sun and shade--meaning you never really get too hot or too cold here, whatever the weather is doing. The steeps slopes and vast, open sweeps of prairie and oaks offer unparalleled views of the coastal range and the idyllic farmland and vineyards in between. Additionally, on clear days, one can also sight Mount Jefferson, shimmering like a diamond in the distance. Wide, graveled and well-maintained trails on a loop system means multiple combinations for hikes. The challenging, sloping terrain make trail running and cardiac training one of my favorite activities here. No matter which direction you go, the wider loops culminate in about 3 miles of actual distance with 400-600 feet of elevation loss or gain along rolling, up-and-down paths. Dogs are not allowed here due to the noted presence of other, large mammals including black bear, coyotes and cougars. I've never even seen a squirrel here, but large mammal scat is ever-present on the trails, and it definitely did not come from domestic dogs. The park authorities occasionally perform controlled burns, and there are signs of that in the spacious, open fields. The vibe here is warm and inviting. The beauty is stunning. The workout is great. Love this place so much! Easily my favorite park in whole Beaverton and Hillsboro areas. It usually is very quiet and seldom gets crowded at all. It contains uphills and downhills in a loop of 3 miles of hiking so it is a good amount of exercises for hikers and runners. I try to come here once a week, and each week the views are slightly different with all kinds of flowers blooming. read more

I was checking around for a close by place to have a hike and came across this park. It's got a beautiful view of the valley. Well maintained trails that are mostly tiny gravel. Easy to take one of the big wheeled strollers if you are so inclined. The parking lot is pretty small, which is a bit of a bummer. A small playground at the parking area and at least one picnic table there. No shade, so in the heat of summer, I'd imagine hot. Depending on which trail you take, lots of areas without any shade. Also, the parking lot is at the top of the hill, so all trails lead downhill, remember, the car is at the top of the hill, down is so much easier than up. It's not bad, but on this my first trip, I didn't venture to the bottom. No pets allowed on the trails for the sake of wildlife. Too bad the same can't be said for kids, ok just kidding, but if you want to see animals, they don't like noise. The upper trail had a bunch of people, but down lower, it was pretty quiet. read more

Went for a great hike today at Cooper mnt, it is a great local hike around 1000 ft with beautiful views of the coastal range and only about 20 min outside of the city. It is only about 3ml long but much of it an incline which gives you a good workout. Check it out and enjoy! read more
