Been biking this pathway for several years, and it's nice to see it coming together over the years…read more The stretch I ride this time -- from Oleson Road at the Garden Home Rec Center to the 217 freeway --- seems mostly finished, with bridges over the creek completed and pavement markings in place near crossings. It's very relaxed, mostly flat tour through some leafy areas and neighborhoods of SW Portland/Beaverton/Tigard, occasionally scenic. The section near Oleson can get pretty crowded on weekends with strolling families and their dogs, but everyone's always polite about it.

We chose to walk most of the stretch, opting to enter the subdivision at one point to make a bit of a loop of things. The area is quite peaceful, lots of birds to watch. The boardwalk itself was somewhat slippery, and unfortunately we encountered multiple piles of ignored pup poop along the way. Not somewhere I'd go out of my way to frequent, but a nice way to stretch the legs if you're in the area or live nearby.

It's not a greenway in the traditional sense; instead it is a mostly raised walkway trail through a wetland/swamp area. I have to marvel at the determination of Parks & Rec to make this beautiful area accessible to people! The trail runs behind homes, so you'll see residents hanging out or working in their yards. Makes it feel safe and part of the community. Signs indicate that bikes are allowed, but I can't say I would recommend it. Because most of the trail is raised walkways, there isn't anywhere to go if you encounter people, and the pathway isn't terribly wide. Use caution if you go through on your bike.

We live a few miles down the road and walk here, nearly, every day with our dog. The park is…read moreimmaculate except for (the unavoidable) goose poop and, during most of the year, you'll often see park personnel maintaining the grounds consistently. We usually walk the little wooded/paved trail, then through the Willamette River path. We, typically, run into other dog owners and dog-friendly people who enjoy petting our very friendly doodle. With few exceptions, everyone adheres to the, clearly posted, on-leash rule. There are 2 doggy clean-up bag dispensers and dog-owners are extremely mindful about keeping the park super clean. The overall vibe is really pleasant and people of all ages enjoy this place - including lots of teens. If you, or someone you know, has mobility issues, there are wooden benches located on most of the walking paths. On any given day, you'll see people pausing to rest a bit or just enjoying a visit with friends. There is a sheltered structure located in the middle of the park. The surrounding tables and chairs are great for picnics and you can reserve the entire area for private parties. The rest rooms are clean for a public park which I truly appreciate.

If you want to get closer to the water, there are boat ramps you can walk down and a pier lookout. As you meander, you will come across several sculptures and art stones that tell the history of the river. And a Veterans Memorial and a water feature for the kids to play in on hot days. Always lots of people walking their dogs. There is a lovely picnic area with several tables and chairs under a vine covered pergola. For coverage from the rain or sun, there is a large A-frame structure next to it that also has lots of tables, chairs and even a fireplace. You can reserve this area for gatherings through Lake Oswego. We came her to celebrate Mother's Day and a friends birthday, needing to be outside since the two guests of honor recently had Covid. Even though they were three weeks out, we didn't want to take chances so held our celebration here. There was plenty of space for us to be together yet separate. Lots of garbage cans everywhere making it easy to clean up afterwards. In the summer Foothills Park is part of the Concerts in the Park series which I absolutely love! The concerts attract a lot of people so we always come early to get a parking spot and claim our space on the lawn. Lots of families picnicking and kids playing. It's a wonderful way to spend a summer evening! The concerts were cancelled in 2020 & 2021 but we are looking forward to having them resume in 2020. Located just a few blocks from downtown Lake Oswego, Foothills Park is just lovely.

It wasn't crowded at all and the views were still great. It was a full day, as we arrived around 10:30 am and were back in the car around 5:30 pm, so expect to take the whole day to enjoy this ride and to stop at the town of Vernonia. I love how this trail had multiple bike hubs and came in handy to put some air in my tires about 15 miles in. It was generally all family-friendly riding, with only a couple of hills where we did walk our bikes, but you can ride uphill if you are looking for an uphill challenge. But do note, that there were considerable amount of uneven spots/small potholes on the trail which my friend didn't remember on her last ride here so just be prepared for that. Luckily, most of them are marked! I will also agree with other reviews - about first 10 miles from Banks was a noticeable workout. We decided to grab some burgers in Vernonia and stretch our legs - which I totally suggest to do. We did see that a neighbor on our way to Vernonia had some free grapes and apples for us, which was such a sweet treat and extra fuel. I will suggest this to all my newbie and more advanced biker friends looking for a workout with a view!

There are no overlooks or valley views, just forests and a few grass fields. We just completed another section on our e-bikes. We will end up making three visits to complete the trail. Parking at Banks is very limited. Parking in Vernonia is unlimited. Someone has been marking roots and bumps with paint and it was greatly appreciated on our bikes. Our first visit was on a hot sunny day and was not near as enjoyable as yesterday in a cool drizzle. Not real rain, just threats of it.

Its a beautiful (albeit short) walk in from the trail head...but truthfully it's quite a drive back in there just for this falls...especially when you consider how many stunning falls we have in the PNW.

5 star hike, minus one star for noisy conditions…read more Less than 1 hour from Portland, this trailhead is about 17 miles west of Banks. The turn off, Beaver Dam Road, from Hwy 6, is well marked and you get lots of warning. Immediately on the right is a road crew area. There is a trailhead on the other side of that, but you can't park there. If you go straight though, and then make a left at the T, you'll come to a large parking area with potties, info, and another trailhead. You can see it as point of origin on the map I posted, this is where I set out for my 8.2 mile hike. I ended it at the trailhead by the work area. You could also turn right at the T and drive to any number of trailheads, including one that makes getting to University Falls a shorter walk. I prefer the long way. I took to the trail on Jan 3, during a break in the rain. It was very wet. Often there was water running directly down the trail, and it got deep enough to slosh over the toes of my boots. Mud was often 3" deep, or more. Large puddles on the trail you just have to walk through. No going around. Not a big deal since I had my waterproof hiking boots and merino socks. Just wanted you to know your converse high tops aren't going to cut it. It was about 45-48 degrees, and the sun broke thru a couple of times. Not very windy, so my merino base and lite mid were just right. Kept my shell open most of the hike. It was beautiful, truly. The river was kind of raging, all churned up mud and white rapids. The trail was well marked and easy to follow up and down the groves of trees. The two waterfalls were breathtaking, especially University Falls, which was as full as any photo I've seen. The water was definitely higher than usual. I loved every bit of the trail. And now the minus one star. There was constant noise from motorcycles and firearms. I don't want to editorialize about dirt bikes and hand cannons, but it was hard to immerse myself in nature with the omnipresent noise. There was no place on that trail where I couldn't hear it. The dirtbikes are thankfully not on the hiking trail. There is a separate trail system for that, and the tracks do cross sometimes so keep an eye out. For mountain bikes, you'll hear the dirtbikes. I have no idea where the shooters were, but they were close. No comment, not looking to have that discussion. It's just good to know before you get there what it will be like. Enjoy the photos. I've been to this park for years now and have enjoyed it every time I've gone. This time I went I…read moretried out there disc golf course which was very open and easy to navigate. The course was 9 holes, was not too busy for a Saturday afternoon, and is beginner-friendly. The rest of the park is very nice as well! There are multiple paths that make there way around the park, some looping and some being out and back. There are also connecting paths to take you across the road to other parks and areas of Hillsboro. Overall, this park is a very nice, family friendly, park with many things to offer and beautiful walking scenery no matter the season.
