If you don't mind having your car vandalized by the staff: it can be a kinda-fun hour.

The course is one of the best maintained public courses in Central Ohio. THe t-boxes, the fairways and the greens were all in great shape. It's a long course and is one of the ones we refer to as a "cart course". We've walked this course but - after walking it once - you'll probably agree that it's a cart course. Great folks in the club house and the bar/snack bar. On Saturday, at least, they also have a ranger patrolling the course and making sure that everyone is maintaining a good pace of play. This is one of my top favorite courses.

This is a review about a standarbred horse race on the afternoon of the third Thursday of September…read moreeach year--the Little Brown Jug. It's held at the Delaware County Fairgrounds, complete with barkers, a ferris wheel, and games of chance/skill. 4H farm animals and monster pumpkin judging contests. It's all there for you, whether you like horse racing, or not. A sleepy middle Ohio town, with beautiful architecture and not many big box chain stores, is transformed into a major league sports venue, where 50,000+ race fans descend to watch harness racing at its finest on a beautiful early fall day. Pay the extra few bucks to sit on the backstretch bleachers, as they offer the best view, and easy access to your car (or RV) where you have your bbq and cooler. **They let you bring your own beer into the racetrack!!!*** Let that sink in for a minute. Make sure you bring enough, as you will likely want to stay after the races, and nurse a couple before heading out. The best food on the track is at the very top of the stretch, where they sell a shredded chicken sandwich (in rich mushroom broth) that is to die for. Made from real chicken meat, and not the deviled chicken you get in a can, it hits the spot. It's up to $3 a piece now, but well worth it. No one can eat just one--so order a bunch and get back to your backstretch perch, so you don't miss a race. 20-22 races a day, starting at 11 a.m., and going to 5 p.m. You can rub shoulders with the owners, trainers, and drivers (like jockeys, but bigger). You can go to the barns and pet the horses, talk to the caretakers, and just have a grand old time. I found an old adv. sign once that said "You'll meet old friends at the Fair." Just go one year, and you'll know what that means. ...and look for me in the winner's circle (whether I have a horse in the race or not). Perhaps the only things you will remember are the epic utterings of the track announcer, Roger Huston. Among others, they include: "Wa-a-a-a-a-a-a-ger Now, Don't Get Shut Out!" "Three in a Row, In OH-Hi-Oh!" ...all I ever wanted is to go back to the Fair. It's there for all of us every year.

The grandstand was packed, including the "suite" we were in that overlooked the track in the front. Since it is an older track and a historic area, I cannot complain too much. There are many entrances to this park, but no parking at most (and in fact street parking is…read morerestricted near those walking entrances.) The main park entrance, then, is in the center, at this address. A decent lot, a small shelter, a small playground, restrooms, etc. Also a kid-size basketball court, which is cool, and some playing fields. No amenities at the northern entrance, a few at the southern one. There's a walking trail the whole way through the parks, along the creek, and along the highway. There's the bridge to the high school at the southern end, of course. There are playing fields that always flood in the south. A nice park, along the edge of the development. I'm wondering if there is a park in the center of the neighborhood, since this is a bit of a hike for some residents.

Mostly open green space, of course, but half a dozen decent shade trees by the parking lot and playground. And it's a pretty good playground. A few small shelters. Huge parking lot, and I expect many games are played here during the summer. Pretty empty at 3pm on a weekday. This would be a nice place to bring lunch, or bring Baby K to play a bit. Very clean and well-maintained, lots of trash cans.

This is a great overlook that gives you a good view of multiple platforms that were installed in…read moreAlum Creek to provide nesting areas for ospreys. There are some pull offs available along Hogback Road that you can park on and carefully make your way towards the overlook. The closest one is across the street from the overlook and probably has enough room for two cars. We were given a heads-up by friendly cyclists at Hogback Ridge Park that they had seen an active pair of ospreys on one of the platforms, so we headed over to check it out. Not only did we see the pair, but they were also located pretty much directly across from the overlook so we got an excellent view. The platforms are still far enough that I would recommend bringing binoculars or a big zoom lens for your camera to get a better look or closer photos. Even if the birds are not in residence at the time of your visit, it is also just a lovely overlook of Alum Creek and the water and plant life. There are no particular amenities at this location - including the fact that there is a sharp drop-off that you'll want to keep an eye on with kids. It's a great view!

Very nice stands, great view of the field. Not stroller or wheelchair friendly: there is a ramp at the end of the stands, but you have to cross a long stretch of large gravel to get to it, which kinda defeats the purpose. The accommodations for athletes seemed pretty good- some shade, etc.
