I've been taking my kitties to Drs. Lucy & Mike Powers for many years. They're very caring, compassionate people. Recently I had to take my elder kitty in, & had Dr. Gillette take care of him. Always leave fully satisfied knowing my digs are getting great care

I will never return! I had a routine visit with my dog and during the appointment, the vet tech treated me poorly and the doctor made me feel worse. They didn't do the exam in front of me and made me feel like if I didn't spend the extra $300-$600 on tests and/or medications that I was a neglectful pet parent. The doctor also made back handed comments about how I was lucky my dog was small because it was cheaper to treat a small dog instead of a larger one. This is not the first time this has happened either! If this is how they treat their clients on multiple occasion, why would I go back!?! I would look for a different vet if you are considering this vet office. read more

I called with an emergency our 15 yr old dog was seizing every 3 minutes shed have attacks. I called & told them I had an emergency & we elected to put her down immediately. I was told Id have to schedule an appointment for a check up!! Apparently here you die on a schedule No compassion.. It would be 5 hrs !! She screamed to her death & it wasn't a nice thing . The husband and wife team who run this clinic are the most compassionate vets I have ever encountered. We had many dogs when we lived in Cooperstown and to this day still travel up there to have them care for our animals. Both Drs. Lucy and Michael Powers are outstanding clinicians and keep us updated on how our pets are doing whenever they have to stay at the clinic. They always make an effort to fit us in even on very busy days. We would never bring our pets anywhere else!!! read more

The prices charged by this clinic are so completely off-the-wall expensive that I know a lot of people who will have to let their pets get sick and die because they can't afford it. And THEN, they have the temerity to add a $2.75 Medical Waste Fee to every bill. It's an insult. Our golden retriever had a simply physical exam there yesterday and it's costing us $2.75 cents for them to throw away a paper towel. For the prices they charge, and they itemize absolutely everything, I believe theyt can afford to provide such disposal free of extra charge. It's too bad they have a monopoly and that Heritage is so BAD since Dr. Fassett retired. read more

We used to go to Dr Lynk/Countryside but he was in the process of retiring as our cat was dying from pancreatic cancer. At the very end, I had so much trouble dealing with the reality of the situation emotionally and financially. Nobody wants their pet to be in pain, or to suffer with nausea and not being able to eat. I was so fortunate to be able to spend time with her working from home, etc. and made many tearful phone calls to the office trying to arrange the details while also being in denial of needing to arrange them. The staff were so understanding, so patient, despite the fact that unfortunately, this is an everyday situation for them. We are by no means rich and medical care is not cheap for man nor beast, whether you have time to plan for it or not. And we definitely didn't. But we had no trouble working out a financial agreement or anything. And we could not have asked for better care for our cat in those final moments. With that in mind, when it came time for the dog's checkups/shots/etc., it was a no-brainer to take him back to see Dr. Gillette. He loved her despite being such an anxious husky/gsd mix, and was so curious about who was doing all the talking behind the reception desk! It wasn't the receptionist, but a big grey parrot! This place is amazing and I hope we can continue taking all our pets there for years to come. read more

My husband and I and our two dogs, along with my 86 year old mother and her dog, recently moved to Cooperstown. On Friday, July 21st, while I was sitting in Basset ER with my mother who was experiencing heart-related issues, her dog, distraught and searching for her, got away from my husband and was hit by a car. The gentleman who hit Cooper immediately stopped, as did an off-duty State Trooper who was behind the car that hit my Mom's dog. We live less than 5 minutes from Cooperstown Veterinary Clinic and both the gentleman and the State Trooper accompanied my husband to the clinic. My husband walked into the clinic with Cooper wrapped in a towel, who was bleeding, and explained that Cooper had been hit by a car and pleaded for help. The staff member behind the counter literally threw her hands in the air and said "we can't do anything!" Evidently, there was not a vet on the premises, although their hours of operation state they are open from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm and it was 4:00 pm. There was no compassion or assistance offered. There was another staff member present and she repeated the message that nothing could be done to help this dog, however, she was kind enough to call Heritage Veterinary to see if they could help. Heritage told her that the doctor was "just leaving" - obviously not concerned enough or willing to remain a few minutes to help an injured animal. If you are looking for a compassionate, caring, well-staffed facility, stay away from BOTH of these places!!! read more
