After reflecting on our two week trip, I can honestly say that our time at copamarina was at the top of our list of our favorite places visited. Part of its charm for us was that there were so few people there on the weekdays we visited and we felt that we had our own resort Pros: -AMAZING STAFF- each and every employee we encountered at copamarina was friendly and seemed genuinely interested in making sure we were having an excellent experience- it was honestly impressive. We were wowed. - beautiful pools and hot tubs that are truly taken care of and properly maintained- there is no gross cloudy water which we experienced at many other places - in addition to the pools the entire landscape was manicured and well cared for- more so then any other place we visited. They truly reinvest in their property -wonderful food- every meal we ate here was fantastic!! Their tuna tartar was my favorite! -clean rooms and ours emptied right onto the ground floor lawn from the back so we could be in the pool in minutes- other rooms were in buildings and we truly felt we had the best spot -kayaks available and bikes for short bike trips around the property - they are working on adding an even more beautiful welcome area and lounge. They are also working on building another building that is completely detached from everything else and nowhere near rooms. I see some people complaining about the "construction" but it absolutely did not affect our stay and there was zero construction noise. It seems crazy that someone would give them 1 star for doing a great job at improving this beautiful property while not affecting the guest experience in the least. CONS: - NO SWIMMING IN OCEAN- We didn't realize you could not swim in the ocean. The water is 2 inches deep for hundreds of feet out and if you wanted to swim you'd have to go out to the dock but we don't recommend it because we saw hundreds of jelly fish. We enjoyed the pools so much that this wasn't a huge deal for us but we were disappointed for sure -Ridiculously expensive spa. I had the most expensive massage I've ever had even though it started late and was ended early. Gratuity is built in...but then they still ask you to tip on the screen so beware -you have no other option but to eat here unless you want to drive far out- it's kind of in the middle of nowhere. Meals are very expensive. Expect to pay $140 for dinner for two and know that the more casual restaurant is closed when the "fancy" restaurant is open which limits options further -they make you pay for kayak rentals which felt yuck since they are already charging a resort fee and you can't even swim in the water so most people rent the kayaks for something to do. $35 an hour? Felt crazy. Also do not attempt to kayak to Gilligans island if it's even a tiny bit windy. The kid working the kayaks told us it was fine and we felt we were lucky to come back alive as we were tossed around in the waves. read more

This resort is absolutely beautiful, but they did fall short in a few places. The beach was extremely dirty, and the pool and hot tub were full of sand and leaves. The restaurant we ate at on the first day for lunch was super slow, and the food was HORRIBLE. How do you undercook porchops? Lastly, there were kids staying alone in the room next to us and they were partying until 3am and I had to call down to the front desk and they did NOT do a thing about it. We spent $400 a night there to experience this. Housekeeping was great. I will never stay there again. Do better, guys. read more

What a sweet, family-owned resort, approximately 2 hours from San Juan. We hosted a retreat for 14 participants + a small team. The staff was extremely accommodating to our detailed needs and in-the-moment changes. The banquet food was really good, a step above the daily restaurant food. There are 2 restaurants on-site: Las Palmas (available daily) and Alexander's (fine dining; closed some days). The downside is room service is not available here, but you can order to go. Rooms are broken into 5 buildings that span the width of the resort. "Building 6" houses 2 private villas featuring 3-bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (1 master and 1 Jack-and-Jill), a full kitchen, & spacious living and dining rooms. The villas are perfect for a small team to meet during the day - spacious yet cozy. Downside during our stay: the AC in the villa was tricky toward the end of our group's stay. My room was in building 5. It overlooked one of the pools, with views of the beach and sunset each night. Each room has a semi-private balcony with a small table and 2 chairs - perfect for lounging, outdoor yoga, or even a quick zoom call. The meeting space is on the opposite end of the resort, about a 5-minute walk from the villas at the other end of the resort. The meeting space is perfect for small groups or banquets. There are options to set up food buffets indoors and outdoors. AC does get pretty cold. Pack something with sleeves. Pools + kids: 2 big pool areas, 2 small kiddie pools, 1 hot tub, beach access that expands the width of the resort, and a small playground for smaller children. Activities: there's a dive shop with plenty of water activities to sign up for at an additional cost. It's adjacent to the small shop. The shop is where you can purchase snacks, pool clothes, and check out pool towels, which must be signed out and returned to avoid a fee. Volleyball net, soccer net, hammocks throughout Spa: absolutely lovely! Our group rented out the water lounge for a few hours on 2 days. Geraldine was my main point of contact and she was incredibly sweet and attentive. We'd reserved massage slots for our guests and Geraldine was on point each time we had a sign up and needed to change the reservation name. The water lounge is equipped with changing room, outdoor lounge, fresh fruit and water (this might be an add-on), large steam room, and an outdoor shower with 3 or 4 shower heads. There were 3 types of tea that you can order and have brought to you. The massage was also amazing. My knots are gone and I didn't feel any pain after! The services here include: massages, body treatments, facials, manis/pedis. Lastly, I appreciate how well they care for the space. The lawn is watered daily and natural insect repellant is sprayed nightly, great for our sunset gatherings. read more

stayed at Copamarina Beach Resort in Guánica, Puerto Rico from July 20 to July 24 with my two children, and unfortunately, our experience was disappointing, overpriced, and at times demeaning. Let me start with transportation, which was a nightmare from the beginning. I flew into San Juan Airport and had a rental car booked--until I found out that San Juan rental agencies require extremely high deposits, ranging from $500 to $2,500, which are held on your credit card. I couldn't proceed with that, so Plan B was to use Uber or taxi. It took me two to three hours just to find an Uber willing to drive out to Guánica. Once we arrived, I quickly realized: no Uber operates near the resort. None. Even getting 10 minutes into town is difficult--Copamarina offers no shuttle, no car service, and no warning about how isolated the resort really is. I tried to arrange transportation just to grab some snacks for the kids since there's no 24/7 food available, and was told a taxi would be at least $50 roundtrip for a 10-minute errand. There is absolutely no way to leave the property unless you've rented a car. Then came the issues inside the resort: * Check-out took nearly 2 hours due to repeated billing mistakes. Despite advertising a 20% discount for guests staying 4+ nights on food, spa, and services, the charges were inaccurate and inflated. Just when I thought the bill was fixed, they added another $50, with no clear explanation. * Food is average at best, yet I spent nearly $900 on food alone in 4 days for myself and my kids--almost as much as I paid for the room. * Service is frustratingly slow and the resort appears severely understaffed. One bartender runs an entire bar per shift, and restaurant wait times were long. * The main restaurant is outdoors, so there's no AC unless you're inside your room. Dining is hot and uncomfortable. * Pools are warm, not refreshing, and felt more like a bathtub than a break from the heat. * Our first room was basic but noisy--7 a.m. lawn crews with leaf blowers made sleeping impossible, and the AC had a loud motor that disrupted rest. When I brought these concerns to management, I encountered the most disappointing part of the stay: Jamey Restrepo, the reservation manager. Her attitude was rude, condescending, and passive-aggressive. She made me feel as though I was trying to steal or manipulate my bill, which was offensive and completely inappropriate. I couldn't help but feel that being a woman traveling alone with two children affected how I was treated. I was dismissed, disrespected, and unheard. When I asked for a simple courtesy--like a drink or meal for the AC and noise issues--Jamey refused, and instead insisted on moving us to a "better" room. I told her I didn't care about having an ocean view, but she insisted. We were forced to pack up everything and move, only to find the "upgrade" was a smaller room, not better in any way. The whole thing felt like a PR move, not a solution. Some staff deserve recognition: * Sonya, a supervisor, was kind and helpful in working to correct my final bill. * Yajaira at the front desk was also lovely--friendly, respectful, and patient. * Most bartenders were professional and warm, doing their best despite clear staffing shortages. The resort grounds are beautiful, but that alone does not make up for being overcharged, mistreated, and trapped without transportation or support. Final Thoughts: I cannot recommend Copamarina--especially not for solo parents, families, or anyone without a rental car. Between the logistical isolation, poor service, inflated prices, and dismissive management, I left feeling exhausted, disrespected, and completely let down. Quite possibly heaven on earth! Was at the resort for a wedding and it far exceeded my expectations. Resort is laid back and tranquil. I love that it is not overly commercial and keeps the amazing (perfect) views the showcase. Beach and water were the best I've ever been to. Staff were friendly and helpful. The onsite restaurants were delicious. The breakfast patio overlooking the water was impeccable. Me and my husband are already planning a return. The resort did beautifully the wedding as well. We stayed here over Thanksgiving weekend to celebrate a friend's birthday. We were a total of two couples, each with a kid - ages 2 and 4. It was the first time any of us stayed here. Well, my husband once stayed here when he was a kid but doesn't remember much and certainly a lot has changed since then. It is a charming, beautiful and relaxing resort. I loved it. We loved it. Despite being understaffed, service was stellar. Everyone was super friendly. No complaints. Our rooms were awesome. Very spacious and clean. The beds were comfortable. Our friends had a room on the 2nd floor with a balcony. We had a 1st floor room. All rooms face the pool and ocean so you always get a nice view. We had lots of fun at the pool. We also rented kayaks and paddled out to Guilligan's Island. This is a must. I can honestly say the weekend was perfect. The resort is very family friendly. They have two kiddie pools and a playground, tennis courts, a volleyball net. They also have two fire pits that light up every night. You can buy a s'more making kit at the front desk and make s'mores at the pits. Great family activity. The kids loved it. Every Saturday night they set up a giant screen outdoors for movie night. We were told they have a game night on Fridays. We found out too late. The resort isn't just for families. It is also great for couples. My husband and I would like to return just us.They have a fine dining restuarant - Alexandra - which is a nice option for couples. read more

If you plan to get out of the city for few days and choose the southwestern part of PR, I would suggest stay g here a few nights. It's a very nice resort. Relaxing and laid back vibe but lots of fun too. Service is friendly and efficient. Our rooms were very nice and comfortable. The resort is pretty remote. There isn't much around. The closest thing is downtown Guanica, and there really isn't much there. But you don't need to leave. There is plenty at Copamarina. They have two restaurants and two bars. They have two pools, beach access where you can rent kayaks, paddleboards and hobie cats. I recommend rented one of these and heading out to Guilligan's Island, a small island nearby. It's a fun trip. The island is kid friendly. The resort also has some tennis courts and a volleyball net. If you do plan to leave the resort I suggest checking out the Guanica State Forest. It is nextdoor to the resort. It's a dry forest with good hiking and biking (you can rent bikes at the resort) and birdwatching. Make sure to pack lots of water and some binoculars (if you plan to birdwatch). There are also a few nice beaches nearby. Being away from the city allows the stars to shine bright at night, and since it doesn't rain much in the area you can get some great stargazing. The resort is family friendly with lots of fun kid and family activities, but it is also makes for a nice romantic getaway. read more

The place is awesome. However, if u are looking to get away and enjoy the beach pool and the beautiful landscape you CANNOT. They have surround sound Latin music and it is really LOUD!!!! Please, please we can't take it. They need to allow the visitors to enjoy the beautiful space and the landscape without all that loud music. I can understand if they wish to play music by the bar or restaurant areas but it should be moderate. If by the pool they should allow for quiet areas. It is a nice location and clean. However, for the rate charged (including for anything at the restaurant), there were some unacceptable issues: 1. My entire group of business colleagues reported no hot water for showers during most times of the day, over the entire week. Regardless of time of day, the temperature was either cold or mildly warm. 2. Meal value was not terrific. One dinner was maybe 3" x 3" with a cost of ~$40. One day I paid $8 for an iced coffee, and the previous day it was $5. There's no snack bar - if you stay onsite, the restaurant will drain your wallet. 3. There were no batteries in my room temperature controller. I requested batteries twice. No one came to fix it. I was told that maintenance only works limited hours. My air conditioning has been at maximum the entire stay; no way to adjust it. Several nights I slept poorly even with the extra blanket. 4. Front desk did not ask any of the group how our stay was at check-out. When I reported the problems, the report was ignored or given a tepid response. I would not recommend. read more

This is a late review but I was sitting down remembering what a great time I had here . Pros : the walk out beach front rooms were clean and convenient, the beds were comfortable. Affordable with nice staff . If your looking for a cute beach hotel away from the tourist areas this is definitely a great spot to go to . When walking the beach you can find cute little fish . The outside cabana beds and fire pits were very nice Cons: it's not a resort you pay for what you get . There were several pools and a nice hot tub, and you can enjoy them at any time even during the night the staff doesn't say anything. The food is mediocre, the buffet was not good at all . The bar is cute and the drinks weee strong The beach front is not a beach front you can't swim , but if you walk to the right in the beach about 2 minutes there is a public beach and it's beautiful, I had many great night time swims ! read more

This is a funny review, because it's actually my second one - only I was asked to remove the first one, so I did. Yelp advises against taking down a review for a "bribe" (=refund) but that has never happened to me before so I fell for it. The review isn't about the entire resort, just the spa. And as you may have guessed, after promising a refund, I never heard back from them again, even after countless emails. The spa is absolutely overpriced, first of all. It's tiny and the staff seem almost nervous, like it's their first day. They're nice enough but keep repeating themselves and nervously asking if you need anything. We had massages and what I suppose you can call a facial. I've had many massages in my life but this was by far the worst I have ever experienced. I would have gotten more out of a TSA pad-down. And this goes for both of us. And I got a bonus, my masseuse was clearly very sick and spent more time sniffling and wiping snot, than massaging me. From time to time he also stepped away and tinkered with something - like masseuses do, when they need more oil or whatnot. But this was different. He did it maybe 4 or 5 times, and each time, I was left alone for several minutes, not getting this service I had paid for. I asked him twice to focus on certain areas, he ignored it. Then the pad-down, I could have done myself. This was NOT a massage, it was some sort of petting. The facials consisted of getting our faces washed and two different creams put on, and then some more petting, I think was supposed to be a facial massage. While we were being "massaged", there was also a screaming kid in the reception! Just what you want, when you are supposed to relax. Granted, maybe that's on the parents - but I would consider maybe telling someone that oblivious to please wait outside or something, because the whole point of a spa is relaxation, isn't it? If I want to hear kids scream, I'll go everywhere else! They automatically added gratuity as well, for this glorious service. Two people, two massages and two facials - both of which were awful for both of us; a little over $800. And as mentioned, I wrote a (less detailed and negative) review here, and they asked me to remove it and offered a refund and a free service when we came back. This was 3 weeks ago and after 3 emails I still haven't heard back. Great business you're running there! I was "kind", albeit a little disappointed in my first review but with this one I'm not holding back. Stay away from this spa if you know what an actual massage or facial is! You're better off throwing yourself against a wall and hoping something gets loosened up, or washing your face with soap and applying your average Nivea to it afterwards! Boom! It's definitely away from any life in the world. The resort is big and there is some walking to be done to get to where you want to go. It's a beautiful resort for sure. The rooms are nice, equipped with refrigerators. The pools are decently sized. The kid pool is super perfect for kids. The prices are ridiculous. It's an Americanized resort. If you love the Puerto Rican food in the western parts of the island I don't recommend the breakfast. Adults $22 each and kids $13.50 for over 6 years old. You don't serve yourself. Mediocre food but dang the server is amazing. His name is Luis Tortilla and he is lovely and energetic. The staff is friendly. The drinks are pricey as well. read more

We just got back from spending seven nights at the amazing Copamarina Resort in Guanica in June 2019 and it DID NOT disappoint. The resort was clean, the grounds were well-kept and the staff was superb (Shout out to Sergio, Lillian, Michael, Alexandra and Caesar for making us feel at home!) Activities: There are options for all types of travelers. If you are low key, there are a number spots on the resort grounds you can spend quiet time (i.e. cabanas, hammocks, beach and pool areas). There were families of all ages at the resort, yet it never seemed over crowded or loud. If watching the tide come in isn't for you, there are a lot of activities at the resort including kayaks, paddle boards, floats and snorkel gear for rent. There are several options for boat excursions including one to the Mangroves at Gillian's Island - DO IT (Be sure to swim upstream through the canals for the best spot). The gift shop carries a number of items if you need something in a pinch from toys and sunscreen to beer and snacks. Food: There are only two restaurants at the resort. One is only open for dinner some nights. However, Café Palmas was always open and the food was always good. They did switch up the menu throughout the week so while we ate there quite a bit, we never got bored of it. Most importantly, there was a wide array of tropical drinks made of fresh fruit and a full bar. Our only two criticisms of the resort was: 1) There were a number of games, but no Cornhole 2) The resort used a lot of plastic (e.g. cups, straws, etc.) For an island and resort that leans heavily on the beauty of its surrounding environment, it would make sense for them to be more environmentally conscientious of plastic waste. Guanica: From the resort you can take a 1/2 day trip to Ponce (to the east) or Boquerón (to the west). You can easily drive to the surfing town of Rincón for the day. The dry forest in Guanica is neat, but you will need lots of water. The highlight of the forest was the 700 year-old tree on the Ballena trail. It is marked as the "Guayacán Centenario" on a trailhead - DON'T MISS IT! Guanica is next to La Parguera which has a bioluminescent bay - another must do! Puerto Rico is a beautiful island. If I visit again, I will not stay at Copamarina. After booking the room we called to make sure we had a King size bed. They assured us it would be a king room but when we checked in, the only room available was 2 double beds. It was a busy weekend so there was no other places for us to stay so we were forced to take the double room. There are only 2 restaurants and one is only open Friday-Sunday for dinner therefore you are stuck eating at 1 place. Breakfast is worth going to. The service is excellent and the staff competent and very friendly. Lunch and dinner was a completely different experience. We were told when we checked in that we needed to make reservations but every time we called the number they gave us (I even confirmed with the front desk), no one answered the phone. When we showed up without a reservation, the staff seemed annoyed. Ironically, while we were having lunch, I could hear the phone ringing and no one answered it. If you are going to require reservations, answer the phone so people can make those reservations. If the service had been better I could have overlooked the reservation issue but the service was horrible. Our average wait time to get our food was 45min to over an hour. Our water/drinks rarely were refilled, no one checked on us to make sure the order was correct, the last dinner we had, we ordered pasta with chicken and my partner had shrimp. My pasta had plenty of sauce and chicken but the chicken was very dry and my partner paid an extra $8 for 3 shrimp and his pasta was very dry with very little sauce. The only thing that was tasty was the deserts. They have an amazing experienced pastry chef, therefore, dessert gave us a better ending to a very disappointing meal. We would have gone to another place to eat but there really isn't anything close to the resort so you are forced to deal with the sub par food and worse service. Nothing is included in the resort. They have kayaks and paddle boards but there is a $25/hr charge. Tried the spa, which was a mistake and a waist of money. The french manicure took over 2 hours and it was horrible. The girl was very sweet but should not be doing french manicures till she becomes more comfortable doing them. The front desk staff was extremely friendly and the steam room and rain shower was worth doing. We scheduled a couples massage which turned out to be really painful and not very relaxing. I wasn't asked what kind massage I wanted, they just pulled out their rolling pin (thats what it felt like) and went to work on our backs. They also did some shoulder manipulation that I am pretty sure made my bad shoulder worse (they never asked if I had any injuries). The two woman that preformed the massages were super nice but their training (had to be the training because me and my partner had the same experience) was terrible. I've had a lot of massages at different resorts and this one was by far the worst and we paid $165 per person. I would pay to not get a massage like that again! My partner has knee issues and needs ice. Ice machines are not in service maybe because of covid, regardless, the front desk directed us to get ice at the bar. The bar obviously is not happy about it because we were basically ignored when we asked to fill up the ice bucket. Personally, I stood at the bar (no other customers were even in the bar) and I was completely ignored by 2 bar tenders. They were too busy with their mid day "tasks" and didn't have the 1 min to fill up my ice bucket. I literally waited for over 10 min to even be acknowledged. There is one bartender that is actually a good bartender and a nice person. Everyone else, needs customer service training and training on multitasking. Rooms are ok. Bed is super hard with a crappy mattress but the pillows are down and very comfortable. The ladies that cleaned the room are amazing and super friendly. Maybe they should train the restaurant staff? In all, the resort is nice but could be much better with some customer service training. Won't be recommending or returning! read more

There is a lot to do at Copamarina. This resort is great for kids. It has two large pools, two kiddie pools and two hot tubs. It also has a playground and lies right on the beach. However, the beach is full of mud from seaweed and it stinks, bad. Beside having the worst beach ever, you can rent kayaks, charter a boat ride to nearby islands (definitely recommend swimming off of Gilligan's Island), have a nice dinner and drinks, get a massage, exercise, and a lot more. We paid $145/night for our room, which was beautiful. It had a view of the courtyard, pool, and beach. One of the bad things is getting to Copamarina. You have to drive down a narrow road that twists and turns. But also, you will find food trucks along the way, which serve some delicious local fare like Tripletas, burritos and Pinchos. Yum! We ate at the food truck three times before we tried the whole menu. Totally recommend! read more

Terrible resort. Not a true beach resort, still water as it's in a bay - grounds smell like sewage. You cannot get in the ocean here it's filled with seaweed and 2ft fish, jellyfish and crabs. Your only other option are the two pools which are 3ft deep, more like kiddie pools. Mattress is rock hard, I woke up in so much pain. There is no hot water in the shower, when turned all the way to hot it dribbles out. Shower curtain not long enough so water gets all over the bathroom floor. Ironing board was broken in the room. Severely overpriced, bar special drinks are the same price for a drink off the regular menu, $16. stayed for all of 8 hours and left. No manager on site to deal with issues, emailed after we left and was told they attempted to call me but it was a lie. spent $400 for 8 hours. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. The place is under construction, which should be told to people when they call in a reservation.

First the Pros.. Clean rooms, nice rooms, attractive grounds, very friendly help, food was good but nothing fancy, good looking waterfront. Cons: The waterfront is NOT A BEACH. It is in a deep bay with absolutely no surf, the water is 1 - 2 fee deep for a long way out and there is grass and water weed underfoot for most of that. You cannot swim without going off a long dock... Its NOT BEACHFRONT. There are very few shady spots on the beach and no umbrellas. In fact they have two thatched cabanas and we were under one for a few hours when someone came running up to us and said we had to pay $100 a day to sit under those. HUH??? REALLY??? That was absolutely bizarre and so inhospitable. TALK ABOUT GOUGING! Rude policy and we were rudely approached. That left a huge bad taste in our mouth. This poor business attitude continued. I went to the spa for a massage and was told when I got there that the only therapist on site was a young boy. The massage was mediocre at best and when I was done I was presented with a receipt that included a 30$ service fee.. which was explained as a tip for the masseuse and the receptionist for "her time making my reservation". It took a conversation with the manager to resolve that.... Yuck... More bad taste in my mouth. Here I am on my vacation having to haggle. The next day we booked a rather pricey sunset cruise around the Gilligans Island the small island a few minutes from the resort for Friday. We rented a kayak to go to the island and were charged $35 and $10 an hour after the first hour even though they have a facilities charge in the fee for the hotel. More bad taste in our mouth. It felt like everywhere we went in this place they were there taking more money out of our pocket. Very inhospitable feeling. On Friday the lunch we ordered took 1 hour to get.. No one offered to comp the lunch and we decided to cancel the reservation for the make up massage and the cruise. Upon cancelling we were told for the first time that we would be charged half price for cancelling late. We were told that we were orally advised of this policy when we made the reservations. Bald faced lie.. we were not told. Yet another argument with management, at which time our lunch was comped. But by this time we decided to have nothing more to do with this place other than sleep here and we found full beautiful beaches and a state park nearby and ate out in Gaunica, Yauco, Ponce and Parguera. Unfortunately there are very few waterfront resorts in Puerto Rico so this place can get away with crap like this. If you do go here, and we understand that given the few places available you may end up here, at least you will have the benefit of our experience and know that you need to go elsewhere for a real beach and are best served avoiding any interactions with the facility other than some food and drinks. read more

Copamarina is absolutely stunning. The views of the beach, pools, and greenery are beautiful. What's also great is it is extremely private. I'm not sure if that was just the case for us but we never had anyone near us which was so refreshing at a resort. The rooms are spacious and clean. Just be careful on the balcony (we got locked out on it twice & had to be rescued once). The issue is the horrendous service. It took us forever to check in and they didn't bring our bags to the room. The restaurants we gave 3 chances and I used to work in the industry so I am very lenient with bad service. I cannot even describe how bad the service was. What was extremely discouraging is my boyfriend and I waited to get served for almost 30 minutes while we watched the servers (including the manager) wait on all the other guests next to us who seemed to be local. We eventually just helped ourself to the buffet and tried to hunt someone down for silverware (I had to ask 3 servers). We decided to do take out to avoid the bad service but they forget to call you and the food was cold. I think what bothered me most is they never apologized for the cold food just heated it up and said "here you go" We ended up driving down the road and trying out the restaurants in town.Trasiego is nearby and fantastic!! I loved the views and ultimately did have a good time but man if you are looking for an "all inclusive" type stay do not come here. read more

We stayed at Copamarina from Jan 10-16 and loved the resort. This is a little long, but here are some important points I would have liked to know before we stayed. -- 2 hour drive from San Juan, rental car is a must. The drive is beautiful, through mountains and all highway & main roads until you're a mile away from the resort. -- Driving in San Juan is like a demolition derby - no turn signals, quick lane changes, no yield signs - take your time and you will be fine. Once you get on the highway, it's better but still be cautious. -- The road to the resort is a very windy, long road & take your time when driving. If you're from the mainland, this road would be a one way, single lane road. Locals are used to driving it and drive pretty quickly around the curves. -- Off of the curvy road, you can take a hike to Fort Capron- the view is amazing- and see the lighthouse. -- Surrounding the resort is the Dry Forrest. Traveling down the road past the resort are many secluded beautiful beaches, at the end is the path that goes right by many of the beaches of the Dry Forrest. Park your car at the gate and take the path, it will save you from driving the complete opposite way to the welcome center to get a map. -- Everyone was extremely friendly at the resort, Pedro at the surf shop was the person that stood out for us. Ask him about local places to go and where to eat. -- Burger King is at the main corner and Econo grocery store, just two blocks on the main road, sells beer and liquor and is a lot cheaper than stopping at local stores. -- Behind the Burger Kings is a local spot - sorry, can't remember name - they sell pizza and their burritos are awesome. -- At the resort, take the 5 minute boat ride to Guilligan's Island for $8pp. Rent snorkel gear, take a snack and water, and have an amazing time. A beautiful mangrove ridden beach that has a natural lazy river. -- Also at the resort, ask for the Bio Bay Tour by Captain Frank for $30pp. The other tours I saw only allow you to kayak through the waters, but Frank let's you swim in the water and it is truly a once in a lifetime experience. Keep track of the stages of the moon as you can see more luminescence at a new moon. -- Ponce is 45 mins east and Playa Sucia- amazing beach- is 45 mins west. -- Guanica is a beautiful area of Puerto Rico. Staying here allows you to enjoy the heritage and do as the locals do without many tourists. -- Rooms were basic, but the view from our room (204) waking up every morning was amazing. The bathroom could use some updating, but we spent very little time in our room so it wasn't a big deal for us. -- Free wifi, but spotty. On our balcony, we had great service. You are in paradise, so don't spend it on your phone!! -- Sunsets at the resort are truly amazing. Beach chairs were always available and you never had to fight for a spot on the beach. Weekend music was a great addition and was very romantic sitting by the beach listening to it. -- The beach at the resort is not swimmable. You can get in the water up to your knees before there's seagrass and it becomes uneven on the bottom. There is a lot of fish and starfish in this area, but we swam over it and tried not to walk since it's not a normally disturbed area. read more

This place is wonderful! We are in Puerto Rico doing some diving and heard about this hotel/dive shop while diving Desecheo. The room was very nice, the outside restaurant was good and it couldn't have been more convenient for diving. We had Jobo as our boat captain/divemaster - he was great. I would come back to the Copamarina in a New York Minute. Liked · All staff were indescribably kind, pleasant and accommodating. Dinner at Restaurant Aliciana was simply superb and polished. Just thinking about the massages at the Ni Spa makes me melt into a ball of dough. Way cool outdoor showers there, too. While we do not have children, the property is obviously child and family-friendly. Expansive gardens with some unusual types of trees. Disliked · Breakfast was typical waterfront hotel buffet fare. Nothing to write home about, could have been better. I spent three nights in April and really enjoyed my stay. The resort is secluded in a small bay before the Bay of Guanica. They provide a ferry to Gillighan's island, watersports and recreational activities. I thought the food from their cafe was good and had a variety of local and American cuisine. All these good reviews is suspicious, this is our experience. We paid $278/night(30% resort fee). They will try to charge you for everything. A lot of inconvenient rules, everything for the resort no customer service. We were there at check-in time,4pm.. Girl was helping 1st couple. We waited 25 mins and the 1 girl was still checking-in the 1 couple. At the height of check-in & only 1 girl at the counter. A long line of guest had formed behind us, another employee finally decided to stop walking by & help. Our room was in building 5, a long walk (see my map pic).  I asked for a closer building but was told NO because they are booked. We were the 2nd people to check-in but no room swap could be done, hmm. First thing I see is our room countertop was missing a whole chunk of it, broken clean off(room 513).  Pictures online are misleading. The outside of the resort is beautifully kept but the rooms are not ( bathrooms do look remodeled). I asked for a diff room on the lower floor so I didn't have to stare at the broken counter/ furniture & we can easily access the pool thru a back door & not have to walk up steps around to the front door. Didn't tell me new room location, just sent key over with bellboy. I paid for oceanview & new room didn't look like oceanview, she didn't mention a room rate diff at all. I realized the back door is not a card entry but a key lock & they don't give you the key so you either have to leave it unlock or risk locking yourself out. We did lock the front door and the backdoor and had to call for help. If you are on the bottom it sounds like elephants live above you whenever people walk, if they are up at 5am you are up too. For pool towels you need pool exchange cards, the pool is open until 10pm but towels are locked up at 6pm. Called after 6pm to ask about pool towels they said we will have to use the ones in our rooms we bath with. One night, I threw our used pool towels in the return basket, when I treked back to my room, my husband told me we will be charged $25 per towel if I returned the towels and didn't get our pool towel cards back. This resort is  remote, no restaurants around except for their expensive awful one. Starving we went there to eat, they gave us the lunch menu, IT WAS 5:30PM. They said dinner menu  not available until 6pm, at5:30 they are still serving a limited lunch menu. We ordered pizza, horrible. It was like a cracker with cheese and no sauce. $60 later we sadly returned to our room.  Around 6pm everything is shutdown, the pool bar in our side, the rentals, towel shack, no music, no livelyness &the resort is dark. So dark that couples walk around with their phone lights on so they can see where to walk. The beds are very firm & a weird smell comes and goes in the resort. A lot of mosquitoes, we got bitten up at the pool. They advertise mister that kills 90% of  mosquitos, well 10% visited us. Laundry was broken, told me I could use housekeeping's facilities. Housekeeping said they would take clothes, I said I would like to do my own laundry they said that is not allowed. To warm up my son's food they transfered me to the restaurant. The restaurant told me I must give my food to them and they would warm it up for me. They make you FILL OUT A FORM to warm up food. So no you are not allowed to use a microwave at this "resort" either. One night I just fed my son cold food. They claim they are non-smoking but people smoke outside throughout they cater to smokers because all trash cans have prepared ash tray sections on top. They have one ice machine location, you have to walk down to building 3. To top it off I paid for an ocean view. They moved us to a garden view room didn't tell me and no mater what they refused to charge us for the garden view room we actually stayed in. They made us pay for the Oceanview even when that is not the service they provided and they could have provided me an Oceanview room on the bottom. Almost $600 for 2 nights, for this service, we feel dupped. read more

After an initial setback with our room having some minor electrical problems (stuff happens!) management went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and relaxed during our honeymoon here. The rooms and views are gorgeous, the staff are friendly, and the grouper mofongo at the ocean-front restaurant was one of the best seafood dishes of my life. Highly recommend! read more

the resort in itself is BEAUTIFUL. i dont recommend driving in during sundown since you do have to drive up mountains and its really scary. only 1 person checking in which was annoying after a almost 3 hour drive to be standing there while they give the people ahead of you 100 questions to check in. i was in for a wedding at the resort and if theres one thing that stuck out to me from my booking to the actual wedding was the lack of communication between the event planner and the bride. she was no where to be found when they really needed her so i felt really bad for the bride. i feel like they sell this dream of a ceremony in the water and dont tell you its impossible until youre there. the restaurants were mediocore but probably the most youre gonna get for the area on a weekday. not sure if i'd go back for other than the views read more

The resort is absolutely beautiful! I had a really relaxing time at Copamarina over the weekend. All I did was lay by the pool watching kids play with the floats. I didn't lay on the beach because it looked like a man made beach with a dock.The place is more of a low key family resort, but it didn't bother my boyfriend and me. I thought it was kind of cool that Copamarina had kid activities, such as sand castle building contest and the Easter hunt. The only really downside about this resort is that they didn't have the CBS channel so that we could watch the Final 4 game. We asked the bartenders if we could watch it and they originally thought it wasn't a problem. Then they realized they do not carry that channel. They seem to have ever other cable channel but the national network channels. The front desk person even mentioned that she did not get it at her own home. So we sat by the outdoor bar and watched the scores change on ESPN (along with 10 other people who wanted to watch the game), and then we decided to watch the Duke game in the business center. The Internet connection was also very slow using wireless and the landline. It couldn't even handle going into my email account much less a video feed. So the lesson is, don't go here if you want to watch any major sporting game during your time here. read more

This seems to be a very nice hotel. The rooms are outdated but very clean. We arrived at 2am and were beat. I had called several times over the course of a few months and was assured we had a ground floor room. Both my husband and I have had surgeries that prevent us from lifting heavy suitcases. Upon arrival we were given a second floor room and told there were no notes on our reservation. Just be aware that this hotel offers no elevators so we had to get help with the luggage. There is a slight musty smell but I am sure that should be expected on a tropical island. read more

We booked this for our Honeymoon. We paid extra on a travel site for a king size, ocean view room. We were excited to be at a resort, close to interesting sights. We got to the hotel and received a double room, I asked for a king and showed them our reservation, but all they said was sorry we don't guarantee rooms. We made our reservation in 6 months in advance The road to get to hotel is awful, we were ran off the road by a larger car and got a flat tire. The people in Puerto Rico are extremely nice and some folks stopped to help us out. The resort charges a lot for food, drinks and activities. The food choices are limited and they don't offer a lot of traditional Puerto Rican flavor. With the amount one spends to stay at the resort, it seems more should be included. They didn't even offer a check in drink. That being said, one of the waiters at the resurtnat gave us great advice about some near by towns and we had a great time exploring. Ultimately, we were displeased with our stay and got a refund for the rest of time from the travel website and spent the rest of our trip in Old San Juan. read more

This quaint hotel and beach resort is on the southwest part of the island. It's a bit of a drive from San Juan but it's a nice and scenic drive at least. The resort has a great beach area, pools, hot tub, and a decent grass area. They also have boat rides to neary Gilligan's Island. It's been a number of years since we were last at this resort. We remembered it fondly, and selected it for my wife's 70th birthday celebration. It's still a beautiful resort, and most of the staff is very attentive and friendly. However, we were very disappointed with our trip. While clean, the rooms desperately need an upgrade. We could only open three of the six drawers in the dresser. Our room was serviced between 4:30 pm and 5:00 pm each day. Waiting for the room to be serviced meant no hot water for showers before dinner. We did not have maid service our last full day, allowing us to take our showers earlier in the afternoon, while there was still hot water, The real reason that we did not have maid service at that point in our vacation, was not because of a desire for hot water.
