Check with your insurance before scheduling!!! The team at Feather Dental are all very kind, but beware of omitted information. I was scheduled and not told the office is out of network, which led to me being billed double what was expected after the treatment. Generally, offices have verified my insurance and promptly informed me if my insurance plan was out of network, so this left me feeling deceived. read more

I don't like dentists. But this is the best dentist I have ever used. She and her team are very professional. She is also the least painful of all of the dentist I have ever had. I'm in my '70s now. Still don't like dentists but she is very gentle very caring and they are an excellent office. Well organized courteous and thoughtful. Even during what I anticipated to be painful events, I was surprised to find no pain involved. She's very careful with administering anesthetics. I really hesitated to write this for a long time, but I feel other people need to just do their due diligence and without honest reviews, people may be led down a primrose path here. A couple of great positives about Dr Smith: she has the BEST bedside manner with her patients. She is extremely gentle and seems to care about their comfort. Her main dental assistant is also awesome. I hope it's just me that had a bad experience and that it was just a fluke but given that I had so many problems after going to her (costing me an exorbitant amount of money needlessly as well as causing me literally two years of pain), I feel compelled to warn others. I had some regular fillings here and that was fine. No issues (other than a new assistant accidentally giving me novocaine when my chart clearly states I'm allergic. I caught it after 1/2 the dose and said something so no major harm was caused - and Dr Smith seemed to take it very seriously). After that, I had two crowns put on two adjoining teeth that were cracked. A few weeks later, my teeth hurt like heck and I went in to have them checked out. She said I needed to get root canals on both teeth (first time ever for me) and sent me to Dr Gholian. He did one of the two root canals (I was out of insurance at that point, so I paid out of pocket for the first one - $1800 and was going to get insurance a few weeks later to pay for the second one, though I never had it done because of what happened next). After the root canal, my tooth/teeth were STILL hurting. Dr Gholian did xrays and said the root was fully removed so he didn't understand why. Dr Smith filed down the crowns and it helped a bit. She did this 4 times. After the 4th visit, she said I would need to get the teeth extracted and get implants. Hold UP. I decided at that point to get a second opinion and went to another dentist. She looked at the crowns and said "what the hell did this dentist do here?". She told me I needed to get the crowns replaced because they were extremely high and misshapen. I ended up having to leave that dentist before I got the work done because she no longer took my insurance (mid-treatment plan). I went to a third dentist who said the exact same thing. This third dentist also said that a really good dentist will never extract a tooth unless it's rotting or falling out on its own. Implants are extremely invasive and should only be used in the worst possible case. She told me that she would replace the crowns first because they were "extremely large" and the height is causing my tooth pain. I just had the two crowns replaced a few weeks ago (2+ years after getting them on at Dr Smith's office) which insurance DIDN'T cover because the crowns are "too new" (sigh). But the $ was worth it because I now have ZERO pain. ZERO. The crowns are the size they should be, and I saw the before and after x-rays and what an incredible difference! I am so glad I got a second and third opinion and only wish I had done so before getting the root canal. I trusted Dr Smith implicitly and I will never do that again with another dentist who suggests such an invasive procedure. Why she didn't just recommend that she replace the crowns in the first place is very disappointing. I know she is probably great for regular visits but I would suggest anyone going to her get a second opinion before doing anything expensive or permanent like a root canal or an extraction. (BTW, her receptionist was super sweet but also told me Dr Smith had done MULTIPLE extractions on her... why?? She seems like the equivalent of an Ob/Gyn who recommends C-Sections for many pregnancies where they aren't necessary. I hope she changes her ways for the sake of other patients.) read more

This is a very pleasant dental office to go for treatment. The majority of what I have done is prevention, cleanings and such and I certainly have had an issue that needed a bit more comprehensive work. I absolutely love my Dentist, Dr. Jessica Smith and her wonderful team of dental professionals at Feather Dental. They simply are the best! Never in my life have I felt more comfortable in a dentist's-chair, than at Feather Dental. Everyone who works there is super compassionate, reassuring, friendly and excellent at their work. Today, I called in with what I thought was going to be a small dental emergency and they got me in straight away. I was super stressed and nervous when I arrived, but by the time I left I was feeling relieved. The ladies there are so wonderful to work with. They explain the steps clearly so there's no surprises and they do everything to manage any discomfort and keep you feeling comfortable. They also managed to work me in for a cleaning which I had no expectation of at all. They really care about their patients and it shows. I'm grateful for the care that I receive from Feather Dental and without any hesitation, I recommend them highly! read more

I am writing this review years after moving away and no longer seeing Dr. Jessica, mostly because of all of the compliments I get on my teeth. She did crowns on my two front teeth, and every time I tell a dental professional they are shocked at how perfectly they are matched. One dentist said "I can always spot fake teeth and I had no idea". I've been happy with my smile since Dr. Jessica did my crowns, but it always feels extra special to get nearly bewildered compliments from dentists or hygienists. The gals were taking to each other about personal things and not paying any mind to me or my concerns and the dentist saw me as a old guy didn't respond the way I would to a client coming in for dental care . Dr. Quist was the on-call dentist for the dentist whom I've been working with for years and I had a dental filling that was not sitting properly (was fine when I left the dentist the week before but due to the filling, my bite changed a bit and it became bothersome), I couldn't wait until my dentist would return and was referred to Dr. Quist. He and his staff were fantastic, not only fixing the problem but also explaining the mechanics of what happened and why this came to be a problem, which I really appreciated. I felt fortunate that Dr. Quist could squeeze me in on such short notice (was able to schedule an appointment about 4 weekdays out as I could use sick leave to be available whenever he could fit me in), especially since I was a new patient to them. The office was great, bright, and the staff as well as Dr. Quist himself were nice and if I wasn't already an established patient with my dentist, I would go here and highly recommend Dr. Quist for anyone looking for a dentist in SLO. Parking is easy as there is a dedicated parking lot for his patients. read more

Dr. Jessica is super kind first of all. As for her work as a dentist, I have not had a better experience with any. She is truly gifted/blessed. I've had a lot of dental work done...just my luck! I am extremely satisfied with the results of Dr. Jessica's work, and left today with a sense of trust. She was literally painless, from start to finish; not to mention quick, which I was especially grateful for. Her personality is light and down to earth, as is her staff. I appreciated the personal attention from each one of them. It was also great to know ahead of time what Dr. Jessica was doing, as she really takes the time to explain as pointed all of it out on x-ray screen, and made it easy to understand. It is honestly such a laid back experience being in her office, which is quite different from other dentists I have been to since moving to SLO in 2015. In all, there have been six between Lompoc and San Luis Obispo. Her staff is very sweet, as is she. I would recommend Dr. Jessica to any of my friends and family, especially since we (family) have talked about those "other" experiences that have not pleasant at all. I love the location, as well! We have been patients of Dr. Quist for the past several years and our entire family thinks he practically walks on water, His staff is beyond wonderful and we absolutely cannot understand the poor review of 12/27/15.
