Went first for a consultation for my daughter, and then for myself; both were quick and efficient and I like that the cost is clearly laid out and patients have flexibility on payments depending on their downpayment and how many months they'd like to spread those payments throughout. Made my first appointment to take scans and was promptly ushered into a room and given a contract with several highlighted statements requiring my initials. One of the statements was providing blanket consent to 'slenderize' teeth (aka file them down to nubbins.) I said that I did not want that as a part of my treatment plan and was told it was 'required.' I would say that 100% of people that have never had invisalign are unaware that 'slenderizing' is filing your teeth down; a permanent process that can and has gone wrong for some- resulting in teeth that can be uneven, as well as irreparably damaging the tooth's essential protective enamel. Additionally, many patients come to the dentist/orthodontist with either or both anxiety disorders or previous dental trauma and to not only fail to educate patients on the process, but to also provide no problem-solving alternate approaches, and to not offer any anxiety medication management for a supposed 'required' procedure, indicates a doctor that is insensitive to the care of his patients and also implies a 'one-size-fits-all' approach to his methodology. read more

Not only did he sell me on getting braces/ Invisalign but he charged me more than other local dentists. When I told him I was unhappy with the results, he completely dismissed me and basically said you're not getting any of your money back. That's not what we do at my office. I have to write another review because I can't believe the service Dr Garrett's staff offers. I was scheduled to go out of town & I needed my Invisalign retainer made before I left in 2 days. I was working with tech Mariah & she conferred with Amanda Panda, the tech who makes the retainers. They asked if I could come back in a few hours before closing time. They were able to make my retainer, which fit perfectly! I was amazed that they would squeeze me into their schedule at the last minute. Great techs! I've worked with several techs there & I wish I had noted their names cuz they're all wonderful. Thank you Dr Garrett & thank you Jennifer & Maureen for helping me with every appointment. If I could give a 2.5, I would, but I'm left with whole numbers so I'm rating a 3. While the service was exemplary and Dr. Garrett does a wonderful job, his "Go Team" of accountants is astoundingly disorganized and uninformed. If I were to break down my rating further: 5/5 for Dr. Garrett and 1/5 for his account managers, who bungled my insurance (costing me hundreds of dollars more than quoted) AND applied one of my payments to someone else's account. During my consultation in Spring 2020 (just before the pandemic), I was told that my dental insurance would cover a majority of the cost, leaving a nominal monthly payment. Knowing I had plans to leave my job for other employment, I asked the account manager (Janet, perhaps?) how my care and payments would be affected if I moved and changed jobs. She assured me nothing would change and care could continue as normal. But when I left my job in August and accepted new employment with different insurance, unbeknownst to me, my orthodontic care ceased to receive insurance payments. During the consultation, I was never informed that insurance pays quarterly and not all at once. So when the fall payments came due, Garrett's team instead contacted me to tell me I owed an unexpected $1,100 additional. I contacted my new dental insurance about the issue, only to learn that I'd missed the deadline to request the orthodontic care takeover... because Garrett's office didn't tell me until late December that my insurance was no longer paying. Furthermore, as I was leaving one of my appointments, the front desk associate asked to speak with me "privately" about an "embarrassing matter." Confused, I said "just tell me what it is." She explained my account was past due and I hadn't made any payments in months. I told her that wasn't true, I'd sent a check recently and it had been cashed. Flustered, she asked me for the details of the check number, date it was cashed and amount paid, which I provided. After a week or so of looking into it, I was informed my payment had accidentally been applied to someone else's account. This was disturbing but not surprising, considering the amount I was told I owed changed countless times without reason -- after I called and expressed anger at the changing amounts, I received a follow up call from a woman who started with "I hear you don't like our accounting." Just baffling, the hubris. Finally, after my last visit in March, where I paid $1,000, I asked to have an updated statement emailed or mailed to me. It never came. Instead, just this week I received a notice of past due payment including three late fees. Whoever runs the billing and account management here is maddeningly terrible at their job. I've never dealt with such frustrating professionals in my life. To complete this review, I must say Dr. Garrett and his orthodontic team did an outstanding job on my teeth. They changed in an obvious way, reshaping my smile for the better without any pain or discomfort. Dr. Garrett even had my new trays shipped to my home after I moved so I wouldn't have to drive to SLO as often. He is congenial and his orthodontic team is, as well. It's a shame his front desk is so disorganized. read more

Took my 7-year-old for a free consultation as recommended by our dentist. We decided to move forward on what Dr. Garrett recommended based on my daughter still sucking her thumb and the damage that has already been caused. The front desk staff are very friendly and return calls timely. I like receiving the automated text message that they will call me back. Made me feel recognized by the company and that our care is important to them. Love that they have a brushing teeth station with disposable tooth brushes that already come with toothpaste on it. The other dental staff (I recall one woman named Hayley) were helpful, patient, friendly and professional. They were patient with my daughter's anxiety and tears as they took xrays, put in spacers and eventually put in a pallet-expander. They explained all the various processes thoroughly to both her and I. I appreciate their flexiblity working with us financially so we can make payments that worked best for us. Meter parking at the San Luis Obispo office is a bit annoying but so far finding a spot hasn't been a challenge. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Garrett and am midway through my treatment. I'm an adult and in my second time in braces (did not wear my retainer as a teenager) and pre-braces, had a very scary looking smile. Even though I'm still a work in progress, I could not be happier with my experience thus far. Before choosing Dr. Garrett as my orthodontist, I did quite a bit of shopping around. Several other orthodontists quoted me an outrageous amount of money with all kinds of exotic treatments. I'm not a dental expert, but I've done this once before and I had a decent idea of what to expect. I found Garrett Ortho to be competitively priced and the treatment plan was clearly spelled out, so I knew what I was getting into. I felt comfortable with the commitment and decided to move forward with Garrett on the spot. Everyone's orthodontic situation is different, but I was very impressed with how quickly I saw results. Adult teeth don't move as quickly as the kiddos, so I was prepared to not see anything major happen for quite awhile. Within a few months I had comments from people who were blown away by the alignment of my smile. I did opt for clear brackets which was well worth the (fairly priced) investment. I've had several photo sessions done with pro photographers and they don't need to Photoshop my smile at all - you can't even tell that I have braces. Here's a few other pluses about Garrett Ortho worth noting: - The staff is very kind. I feel that they take a personal interest in patients as people. - The office is modern and clean. I like being able to check in quickly on the computer. I get text messages reminding me of my appointment (and a quick printout, like a receipt, when scheduling my next one), automatic payments deducted from my checking account, a web portal to manage my account, and the office has WiFi for patients use. And for the kiddos, there is a video game console in the waiting room. - It is in Downtown SLO right near the parking garage. Most appointments are in and out so I usually don't have to pay for parking. - They offer in-office financing. This was key in choosing Garrett Ortho. Many other offices did not offer this, or did with exponential interest rates. This has eliminated the financial burden I was dreading when I decided to get back into orthodontics. I would highly recommend Garrett Ortho, especially for fellow young professionals who are nervous about getting back into braces. If anything I wish I had done this sooner, because working with this office has made being an adult in braces not bad at all. read more

Dr Garrett is a pro with invisalign and also great about listening to what you want and helping you achieve your personal goals. Other doctors didn't feel invisalign would work for us, but Dr Garrett has seen excellent results in many different situations and sure enough her smile ended up being exactly how she wanted after the treatment finished. Terrible customer service! I had to schedule the appointment months in advance because it was only thing they had available. Then I was a few minutes late to the appointment and they wouldn't see my daughter. I imagine most of their clients are teenagers, yet they have absolutely no understanding of how hard it is for teenagers to get out of bed in the morning and get to an orthodontist appointment on time. They are very strict and inflexible and rude! I will never go there again and would not recommend it to anyone! read more

Dr. Garrett has been my orthodontist since I was about 11 years old, and when I first met him my anxiety was absolutely TERRIBLE. He immediately made me feel more comfortable than I have ever been in a dental office, and he and his amazing assistants explained every procedure they were doing so I knew what to expect. Thanks to them, my teeth are perfectly straight and I love my smile. His office has a calming, open feel about it, and everyone in there is all genuine smiles all the time!! I had several years of braces as a kid, but as a senior in college I have had some issues with teeth shifting and I've become very self conscious about it. I got an appointment to see Dr. Garrett and the whole experience has been really wonderful. I don't think they usually treat people my age but they have made me feel welcome the whole time. Dr. Garrett looked at my teeth and walked me through all of my options (was very transparent about the cost) and didn't pressure me at all into a decision. I did end up deciding to have some new retainers made to help fix the problem and it has been a really nice experience.
