My wife and I joined our friends last night, a party of seven at the Copper Bottom in Florida New York for dinner. As we arrived, our server immediately greeted us and took our drink order. It all went down hill from there. First we ordered Calamari for the table. It wasn't chewy which is good, but I thought it tasted greasy. I ordered the French Onion soup. It was good, but average. My wife ordered the the crabmeat stuffed shrimp. They were overcooked and chewy. I was excited to see Veal chop parmesan and ordered. It was a generous portion but very bland and tasteless. Desert and Coffee was fine. Our server disappeared and we had to ask someone to send her over with the check. We finally got our check and again had to track her down to pay our bill. When she returned with our credit card statement, we were confused by an additional surcharge. I questioned the hostess and she told me due to increased percentages charged to the establishment by the credit card service, the owner decided to assess the additional fee instead of raising prices. I was told them could debit my card and let me pay cash. I said no, this isn't right. They told me there there's am ATM machine if I didn't want to pay cash. Hello, there's a service charge with independent ATM services. And I'm not sure, does the establishment get a percentage for the machine being there? I was also told, they didn't want to raise prices for the customers who pay cash. That's discriminating against good customers who choose to manage their finances using their card. I was told that gas stations have been doing this for years. Gas stations charge full price for gas as credit and if they choose, discount the cash price. At least you know you have that choice. I was told their "Disclaimer" was on the bottom of the menu. Who's looking for that when you're selecting your food. There was also a card with very small print in the credit card pouch with our receipt. The server should have told us about this before we ordered. at least we would be prepared or chose to leave. While New York State may permit this activity for credit cards, our debit card should not have been charged but it was. Like the old saying goes, "Let The Buyer Beware"!! This is my style restaurant. A local place with a great atmosphere and awesome food. The calamari and special Mother's Day Asian chicken dumplings were great appetizers. The pork saltimbocca dinner was unbelievably juicy, great size and delicious. Would definitely recommend this place for a night out or for a nice occasion. I should have known better. I ordered filet mignon at a strip mall. I ignored the red flag yelp reviews because my pregnant wife saw fish and chips on the menu. The ambiance inside was very intimate, the bar area looked like a great spot for a cocktail, the staff were all friendly, but pretty green. Walking in I thought we found a nice little spot, we didn't. While I would normally rate 2 or 3 stars for getting smaller items right, I can't ignore a place that can't even attempt to provide a decent protein. Couple that with the owner complaining about when the place is busy he leaves the phone off the hook, in front of us and this is a 1 star warning to run far away. I don't want to hurt somebody's business, I respect that, but run far away if you have any standards at all. The French onion soup is bland but passable. The cocktails were a decent pour. My wine never came out. The fries were great, lightly floured and crispy. The fish was evenly colored, but disgusting! It's was dry like saw dust, we couldn't get it out of our mouths! I had garlic mashed with my filet, it was smooth with just the right strength of garlic so it wasn't overpowering. Not the best ever, but solid for sure. The veggies were sliced and Julienne. No seasoning, crisp. The filet ordered med rare, was a tad under well, dry and flavorless. I'm pretty sure they freeze their meat, it's very similar to an Omaha streak. I'm not exaggerating its pretty bad. In general, the fries, and potatoes are good, the proteins are garbage. The locals were very happy, and good for them, but if you have a certain expectation of your food, keep moving. Thank God there was a liquor store right next to them!! read more

I love the copper bottom! It's a great local bar/ restaurant that serves great food and always great service. I would say the menu is pretty basic American/Italian food. I have had almost everything in there menu and have yet to be disappointed. A few of my favorites is the hanger steak salad, fried asparagus appetizer as all of the salmon entrees are great. They have a pretty good thin crust pizza as well- pick your own toppings! The special menu is always good too when I'm feeling like trying something new. Despite what other yelpers may have said, I really enjoyed my time at Copper Bottom. Everyone at my table did as well. My burger was really great and was cooked how I ordered it. The fries were really light and crispy, and the apple cider bacon on my burger was really unique. The ambiance is nice. Everything looked good on the menu. Brunch comes with complimentary mimosas. My after dinner espresso was decent, and the waiter brought over Sambuca which put a smile on my face. I would definitely dine here again, but I live one hour away. read more

This restaurant deserves 5 stars for quick/friendly servers, delicious food, and their seriousness with food allergies. My boyfriend and I spent the last night of our vacation upstate at Copper Bottom. Fred from Glenmere Brewing Co highly recommended we eat there and we were very pleased with the entire experience. Danielle, our server, was quick, friendly and helpful when it came to my gluten-allergy. I ordered a basic BBQ burger with apple cider bacon and my boyfriend ordered ribs. Both were cooked to perfection and seasoned beautifully. The ribs in particular slid right off the bone! I almost wished we had ordered 2 orders of ribs instead of my burger. :) This will definitely be on our list when we return for our next trip this winter. read more

Outstanding in a very unique way. Believe me, I thought the night was going to be a dud. Let me explain: my husband and I were celebrating our 34th anniversary - we typically choose restaurants that have great food, but that are also quiet with mellow ambience. We heard the Copper Bottom had great food, so we called for reservations but were told they only do reservations for 4+. We were assured we would be seated, though, no problem. We went on a Saturday at 6pm to find the place absolutely hopping! We went up to the host (owner? wish I got his name) and he told us 15 minutes. Which was fine. While we waited, people kept arriving. It was a madhouse. And yet the host was as pleasant, patient and organized as could be. As promised, we were seated in reasonable time, and as pleased as I was about that, I was mildly concerned about the loudness in the dining room and also was mildly concerned that the food would be subpar, as busy as they were. Here's where it gets pretty amazing - THE FOOD WAS INCREDIBLE! I mean, chef's kiss, top-notch. The service, also, was incredible. Our server, Lauren, was calm, cool and collected and just so pleasant, despite the whirlwind going on around her. There were young men bussing and resetting tables as fast as lightning. This place was unbelievably delicious! Yelp suggested it to me. We have driven by before. From the salad to the appetizers to the meal to the dessert everything was so fantastic. The salad had Gorgonzola cheese and balsamic vinaigrette and was so tasty. We had fried lobster ravioli with ginger and wasabi sauce for an appetizer. And some delicious mussels. Then for dinner we both got a special called Chicken Ricky which was panko crusted chicken cutlet with a pesto cream sauce, sweet red pepper risotto and sautéed vegetables. The chicken cutlets were nice and thin. It was so delicious. Dessert was so good too. I had lava cake. I would highly recommend this place. We will be back there soon. We dine out a lot and this was one of the best restaurants we have been to lately. read more

Allish was an excellent server. The maitre d checked on us often, the two male servers also checked on us. We were checked on a lot and Allish was doing just fine. The place was crowded (Saturday) and he sat us without reservations, quickly, and it was a little after 6 PM. I'd call in the future. The food was FANTASTIC! The house Merlot was great. My wife had the pan seared sea scallops. YUM! I had the Sesame Seared Ahi Tuna and it was amazing. It was done perfectly. The wasabi mashed potatoes were great as well. This is one of our favorite places to go. No matter how busy they are, someone will always greet you as you walk in (One of my biggest pet peeves it when you walk into a restaurant and you are ignored because they are too busy to just acknowledge you). The atmosphere is very cozy. We usually sit in the bar area by the electric fireplace. My favorite is the Copper Bottom Burger. They are always cooked perfectly. The best burgers you will find in the area. The manager/owner(?) is always there to ask how your food turned out, set a table, and make sure everything runs smoothly. Disappointing. We had heard about how good Copper Bottom was but had yet to dine there until Dec 2014. I got a summer salad and an Classic Chicken entrée which was way too much food. The salad was ok and I chose the Chicken Marsala, that did not have much flavor. My fella got a lobster bisque (also very large - maybe they could offer a cup & bowl size). He said it was ok. His Veal chop was fatty and rather tasteless. The service was fine but felt a bit overly formal for a more casual feeling restaurant. We found out later that the restaurant had changed hands early in 2014. I can't make a comparison to the old place, but we did not enjoy our meal. Not likely to return. read more

My sister and I stopped by today to pick up lunch for our mother and us. We ordered very specific items and the bartender assured us that what we ordered would be no problem. We ordered a salad of iceberg lettuce with grilled shrimp , tomatoes and cucumbers for my mother who is in a local nursing home. We got huge chunks of iceberg, no tomatoes, no cucumbers, 1 tiny portion of dressing and 3 small shrimp and no fresh fruit which cones with the salads. My sister ordered a salad with 2 portions of their champagne dressing. She received balsamic instead which is not her favorite. The rest of her order was fine. I ordered a burger and fries and that was fine as well. We asked for utensils and napkins and received none. My sister eats here often at lunchtime and always has a good experience and that's why we chose Copper Bottom today for a special lunch for my mother. Based on today's experience I would not return and it's obvious that take out orders are not their priority. The restaurant was not busy so I'm not sure why we had a bad experience except for a lack of attention to detail and concern for the customer experience. FIRST TIME VISIT My husband and I along with our four children visited the copper bottom a couple of days ago because we had a gift certificate. Upon entering the restaurant we had to wait about 6 minutes before someone came over and told us that someone would be with us in a moment to seat us. We got seated in the room that is by the bar. I felt very claustrophobic because the tables are very close to one another and we had to squeeze in to get to our table which was in the back corner. The decor is nice. Dark walls , dim lighting, lots of candles, electric fireplace on the wall. The waitress we had was nice , she was quick to take our order for food and drinks, and the bus boys are quick to bring out bread/butter and clean your table so that was nice. Our food was good, I feel prices for certain items are a little high. We did not have dessert just dinner items. Overall I'd rate this place a 6 out of ten. It was ok, I don't know if I'd return. The Copper Bottom has always had good food and good service. Unfortunately, our dinner tonight, while good, was ended with a surprise. We went out as a family (Me, my wife, a 6 and 2 year old). My children ordered a meal from the children's menu and asked for apple juice. Our appetizer and meals arrived quickly and were all very good. My 6 year old requested a refill and (as younger siblings do) my 2 year old did as well. When we got the bill the server had charged us $10 for apple juice. I have heard of charging for soda refills (which they do here - and I think is a bit tacky) but for children's apple juice? It was - at most - 24oz between the two of them. Again, the food and service have always been good but the fact that we were charged for that without being at least notified has really left a sour taste. read more

I ordered the baby back ribs after getting confirmation from the waitress they were good. She said they were "excellent". They were horrible, dry, overdone and most likely reheated at least once or twice since being made days earlier?? We celebrated my daughters birthday at Copper Bottom. I do not understand the negative reviews. The waitstaff was courteous, friendly and quick. My daughters steak was made to her preference (medium) as well as my rib eye ( medium - rare) . My wife's pork chop was also very good. The potato croquettes were also served hot and were delicious. At the end of the meal the waitress made fresh coffee for us. My one disappointment was that they were out of the flourless chocolate cake. Last time I ate here was several years ago. The menu was amazing. The portions were huge. And the food quality Was to die for. We went again last week and well......we were pretty disappointed. My meal was okay even though the vegetables were barely cooked or warm. The Portion size was on the small side. The wife's salad however was awful. The greens tasted like they were full of dirt and not rinsed thoroughly. It seems the ownership change that I heard of was for the worse. It used to be great neighborhood fine dining. Went there for the first time today for lunch. I'm sorry to say it's not that great. Was very unhappy with my meal as was my husband. The barmaid was very nice but other than that I would never go there again. What we ordered was a very simple meal for lunch. I ordered a Caesar salad, my husband ordered fried calamari with FraDiavolo sauce. My salad was awful and my husband said there was no taste to his calamari. Ended up here after an unfortunate series of events derailed our original plans. Having a gluten allergy, typically there are few options. This was an AMAZING experience. Great drinks, great food, and perfect attention to detail. My date got the bbq turkey club and I got gluten free penne vodka with Cajun chicken. They double checked I was given gluten free pasta and were attentive the entire dinner. For three alcoholic drinks and two entrees, the price was unbeatable. Very disappointed! We've eaten here before. Kind of hit and miss. Used to be great. We had a burger that I asked for medium rare. Was well done with lots of rubbery grizzle bits in it (disgusting) Son had a grilled chicken signature sandwich that was so dried out I'm sure it was cooked the day before and reheated. So we came back for the dinner this Friday as my partner wanted to. Food - very very average. The decor is fine but the quality of food and the amount of it is not adequate to the price. The owner is just floating around the bar and dining rooms showing as he cares and stops at the tables from time to time and asks people if everything is OK but that's about it. People (most of them know him personally) don't want to say anything bad about his food to him but I don't know him personally so I will say it out loud. The main chef needs to go or he has to go get some cooking lessons or watch some more of a master chef shows or go to a real restaurant and see how the food is served (go to Red Lobster for example). It is not only the taste of the food (not marinated or spiced up at all) but the way it was put on a plate. Very sloppy, instead of a whole baked potato I got 5 little pieces (squares) of it...the salmon was just baked in an oven (I make better salmon myself) and nothing was added to it. So this is definitely not a dinner place. For those who think Mark is a good restaurateur - he is not! We gave it enough tries. We will go to Middletown next time where there is plenty dinner places to choose from. read more
