Yelp for a causal place for lunch and Copper Kettle showed up. There was something for everyone in the group. We ordered the fiesta salad, B'LT sandwich, and French toast. For drinks, we ordered 1 Irish cream latte in cold, 1 Irish cream latte in hot, and 1 raspberry lemonade. I asked for less sweet for the cold Irish cream latte, and it almost taste only like cold cream and coffee. It was still good, but I didn't taste much of the Irish cream. My dad got the hot Irish cream latte as is, and we found it was a bit too sweet. So not sure what the balance is. It was still delicious regardless. The food was delicious! The French toast was nothing I ever had.... It was sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar.... Sooooo good. We were planning to get the Apple fritter to go, since that's what other Yelpers had recommended, but after the French toast, I think we were good. I'd highly recommend the French toast as well. The bacon on the side was soooo good too. It is more of a dessert to me, not so much of a breakfast item. Was it ever so delicious! Food was amazing. I decided to come here after checking local restaurants nearby my hike at Smokey hallows. Honesty it doesn't disappoint. My bf and I got the kettle club and the grilled tab and Apple fritter. All of these tasted amazing!! We were so full and loved every bite. Apple fritters here are highly recommended!!! The food was super expensive and coffee doesn't come with a refill unless you want to pay extra for it. I was hoping for your basic scrambled eggs, bacon potatoes. They don't have that. Got an egg sandwich instead but they don't give you napkins or silverware ( a knife to spread the ketchup on the sandwich would have been nice) . My family and I had just done a walk on the trails by the waterfall just down the road. Nothing could hit the spot more after a winter's hike than a cozy place to sit and warm food and drinks. I wasn't aware that Brown Dog Cafe had closed in Hamilton, but it would make sense that this is the same owner since they serve the identical apple (and pear) fritters. Really, if serving made-to-order fritters isn't enough to put you above other cafes, I'm not sure what will. Beyond the fritters, they have quite an extensive soup and sandwich menu. For $13, I got a nice hot corned beef sandwich with a pea and bacon soup. You order at the front and they bring the food to your table. Pretty good value IMO for that combo and it's all very good quality. The soup in particular was outstanding. My dad ordered the same combo, but a Reuben which is effectively a corned beef sandwich but also with sauerkraut and cheese. It was probably better value as it was the same price but you get more on it. Coffee is also a big thing here and I tried my wife's white chocolate mocha. I'm not normally into sweet espresso-based drinks, but it was still better than most other places by not being too sweet and could still taste the robust coffee flavour. Lots of seating, a high ceiling, wooden interior, and lots of windows to give it a lodge feel. I saw they also offer quite a number of board games which is cool they do that. For a cafe, I can't think of anything lacking here. read more

4.5* If you miss Brown Dog Café in Hamilton, don't fret because Copper Kettle used to be Brown Dog. And they also have the signature apple (+ pear) fritters!!! Menu consists of salads, sandwiches, and soups. Sandwiches were ~$13-14ea, but it comes with either a side salad OR soup. I liked that they had the option of a soup, as opposed to just salad. Bread look as though it was freshly baked - not from a supermarket. Salad looked super fresh! If this is your first visit, I'd definitely order at least 1 of their freshly made fritters. Orders are taken at the counter, they give you a number, and your food is eventually delivered to your table. Place was really lit on a Saturday afternoon with people chatting, couples, people working on laptops, etc. The café is quite big and there are even a few couches! Other than the wobbly chair that I sat on, I can't think of any complaints about this place! Staff could've been a bit friendlier. Limited parking at the back of building. read more

A Bakers Dozen of the famous Copper Kettle Signature Apple Fritters for $15.00 (even though the takeout menu states $12.00). It's a beautiful hangout for a social; tables & chairs, plus cozy couches & lazy boy seats. They cater as well: platters, soups, salads and beverages. Underwhelming at best. The line for cash runs right across the entrance, which makes for some awkward and close door openings/closings. You order at the counter and they assign you a table number. Outside, they advertise homemade food, which is promising. I ordered a Cobb salad and a lemonade. A friend ordered a grilled cheese and asked for ketchup. The lemonade was a small bottle of Minute Maid, pure sugar, not homemade. The ketchup didn't come with the sandwich so we asked again, then waited 10 minutes for it. The Cobb salad advertised the standard chopped ingredients, as it should. The 'avocado' was a small container of puréed guacamole, sitting on top of the salad. The menu mentioned a signature creamy Creole dressing. It was smothered in a thick mustard dressing. Way over-dressed. Not Creole. The Apple fritters we got to take away were tasty, but super greasy. This is a cool cafe with a warm atmosphere.. staff is friendly .. you order at the counter from a pretty decent selection of entrees and sweet treats .. the space is a decent size and location is among some other charming buildings in downtown Waterdown. Fantastic lattes and desserts! The Irish Latte is my personal fave so far, and you can't go wrong with the Skor Toffee cookie or Apple Fritter! I had the Apple Fritter hot out of the oven and it was to die for! There was cooked apple inside YUM! I love desserts but am so often disappointed- they aren't usually worth it. These were worth it. Genuinely awesome. I really like the space in terms of size. It's nice and big, so there is plenty of room. It would be a nice place to come and work, with a lot of table space. They could use more tables down by the couches, but we made do by putting our drinks on one of the kids stools. While Copper Kettle is definitely a new fave of mine, it is not quuuite a five star. Food and drinks, yes. But it seems to be missing something. I feel like they could work on cleanliness (first time I went the floors in the back by the couches were kinda gross) and friendliness of the staff. It's been years since I've been on Watertown but boy was I glad we came thru. After dinner and time at the Casino we decided to go for coffee. Talk about luck. We ordered the copper caesar salad with chicken and the kettle club. The food was enjoyable. especially liked the kale in the caesar salad, but the chicken didn't seem to be very fresh. It had a very "reheated/microwaved" taste to it. But considering this is a cafe and not a restaurant, i thought the food was impressive. Didn't get a chance to try any sweet snacks, which was unfortunate since it seemed that the apple fritters were made fresh to order. Cooper Kettle has become a household name in Waterdown thanks to the amazing apple and pear fritters they make on the spot. They even have a viewing station so you can see how they're made as you wait. If you have kids they may enjoy that :) While the fritters are literally the BOMB, I also enjoy their coffee selection. This is a super cute little cafe in Waterdown that we accidentally found while traveling around. So glad we needed to stop! If we lived in the area, this would be my work space for sure. But as travelers, this was a great pit stop for coffee. Their pumpkin pie latte was tasty. They even suggested we check out their neighbouring store, which is a chocolate store. This Cafe is very big and spacious compare to the other neighbourhood cafe. Lots of tables and chairs to do work and for small group gathering. the decor is very simple and somewhat industrial feeling. Love the openness of the whole place, surrounded by ceiling to floor windows on 2 sides. The kitchen is also open concept, you can see and smell the apple fritters. Coffee is very typical, not the best. But they have a nice selection of brewed coffee and tea. read more

Turkey is the best, kids grilled cheese is expensive for two little halves of wonder bread with two thin slices of cheese. We will not get that grill cheese again. On the suggestion of a friend, we met up here for coffee and a chat. We were thinking this was going to be a small town coffee shop with a few pastries and coffee and maybe tea. Far from it. This was a full blown café with different flavours and types of coffees, tea, hot and iced and all kinds of food. It was incredibly busy but we managed to find a table. I still drop by for their yummy apple caramel cider. And delicious chocolate chip cookies with a hint of salt. Lots of seating, wifi, comfortable atmosphere. Free parking behind on on the street. You can't really go wrong coming here for a hot beverage or light meal. My original review: I come to Brown Dog often. It has everything you want in a coffee shop, including lots of tables and seating, wi-fi, a sofa area with silent BW movies playing endlessly. Washroom are clean. The windows are nice and great to gaze through when you get tired of studying or listening to your companion (oh hope my companion doesn't read this review ;). Love apple fritters. Never get tired of them. Also enjoy their coffee, lattes and often get the hot apple cider. Sandwiches are good. I've never had a bad eat or drink experience at Brown Dog. they are usually open until 10pm. Which is later than starbucks in waterdown. read more

Formerly Brown Dog Coffee Shoppe, Copper Kettle Cafe is a great place to relax and study. It's got lots of seating, large tables and does not feel cramped or rushed. There is even a couch area with kids toys to entertain the little humans while you recharge on caffeine. It does gets a bit pricey compared to other coffee shops especially in the area. The large windows are great for people watching or just zoning out from the hustle and bustle of the main street. Tip: Try their fritters! The best are the pear fritters, but their apple fritters come in a close second (only because there is a little too much batter for my taste, some may say thats a good thing!). We come here sometimes just to take-out the fritters for dessert on the way home from work....yum! read more

We were a party of 3, went went in noonish, hoping to order a lunch/brunch. It's a big space with lots of tables, including arm chairs and end tables. Every table for 4 was occupied by one person sitting with their laptop using up the wifi. There were plenty of arm chairs available for people who just want to sit, sip, and surf. I don't like to eat out of my lap, so we hoofed over to the Jitterbug on Main. Glad we did. $50 well spent on a nice lunch and good pot of tea. Sorry, really have nothing to say to recommend the Copper Kettle. I just hope that some of the surfers bought more than one cup of coffee. read more

Brown Dog is right at that mid-point between cafe and restaurant, and they manage to pull off both sides better than almost anyone. The coffee is good (even the decaf, which is called Neutered Dog..... fabulous), they do a variety of food things like soups, salads and sandwiches, all of which are prepared in-house in their open kitchen. Two sandwiches really stand out: the Portager and the Egg Benedict. No idea why they call it "egg benedict" considering it's boiled, sliced eggs and stacks of ham, but it's good. Really, really good. For the asking price of $5, I defy anyone to find something more delicious to eat for lunch in the whole town. Two other things they're well above average at: muffins and apple fritters. They deep-fry the fritters when you order them, and so are served hot and soft (unlike, say, a Tim Horton's apple fritter, which you probably won't ever want again after having Brown Dog fritters) and make for a great dessert or afternoon snack. The service is usually very good. Despite being a busy cafe and me only going there 2-3 times a month, the long-time employees treat me like a regular. Good decor, too, even in the bathrooms, and there's Waterdown's Most Comfortable Couch to top it all off. Heck, this place is even laptop-friendly, with several plugs along the walls and free wi-fi. I rarely see people working solo on laptops though; the crowd here is more a mix of friends and families. read more

On a busy, winter Sunday, we entered the CKC and our olfactory senses were instantly enveloped in the scent of freshly-made fritters. We had the Sweet Apple Brie sandwich and Grilled Veggie sandwich paired with the Roasted Red Pepper soup. The flavours were incredible. All were incredible and warmed our bellies. The Sweet Apple Brie was the clear winner. The taste of softly sweet apples did not overpower the creamy Brie but gave it a textural balance and the caramel sunflower spread tied the sandwich together.
