I recently had an incredibly frustrating experience at Lewis Estates Dental centre. Despite…read morescheduling my appointment months in advance, and conformation from the clinic . I was left waiting in my hot car. I waited for well over an hour, for the staff to let me know I could come in, after sending me a message to wait for them to let me know when the room was ready. I watched the staff throw out garbage and leave for the day. There was no communication from the staff about the delay. When I text as well as called the office leaving a message, it was ignored. I left a message for the dentist to call me back with an explanation, it was also ignored. Not only did I not receive the service, I am out of half a days wage. This is not the first time Dr Baines has left the office when I had an appointment. Last time was her sons graduation. I'm guessing she knew well in advance her son was graduating and could have rescheduled my appointment. My time is valuable, and it's disheartening to see a Dental office that doesn't respect that. I won't be returning and cannot recommend this practice to anyone who values good service.

I moved to Edmonton about 6 months ago, and decided it was about time I found a dentist here…read more.. First of all, they didn't tell me until after my appt that they don't do direct billing. The fact that I had just gotten paid was the only reason I could afford to pay them, since you know, I'm a student aka poor! Though the receptionist told me my insurance cheque would take no longer than a week (its been 9 days now...) The first appt was ok, Dr. Sekhon seemed very knowledgeable and actually went through all my xrays with me. Turns out I apparently need a crown (EEK!-$$$) after I have my wisdom teeth removed. (OUCH+$$$). My second appt was just a cleaning, the hygienist seemed very knowledgeable as well, and thorough. She was also very nice. The service was good for the most part, however I have literally been sick to my stomach, not knowing whether or not I'll be able to pay my rent on time because of 2 dentist appts. Unfortunately for this reason I will be switching dentists, there is no way I can afford to be paying $450 up front for each appt, and then $1800 for a crown. I really don't understand why all places can't do direct billing.

However, the move to a different dentist was prompted due to frustration. My old dentist just didn't cut it for me anymore and I stopped visiting the offices for more than 4 years. Yes, that's right, I haven't been to the dentist in more than 4 years. You're all askin, "But Andrew, your teeth look really good." I know. It's true. It is pretty amazing. But seriously, my standard of dental visits was I go in, wait 30 minutes for the dental hygienists, get cleaned up for about 30 minutes, wait 40 minutes for the dentist, dentist sees me for about 20 minutes. That's 2 hours. Everytime! No wonder I get anxiety going to the dentist, especially when they have no good news for me. After experiencing some sensitivity, I decided to take the plunge and try out Dr. Oberg. Her staff are absolutely wonderful. When booking an appointment in person, they spoke with Blue Cross and I got a breakdown of how much services were as well as the why. Yes, that's what I'm so excited about. Her staff explain and break things down to me assuring me that it's always my choice and they were real people rather than the face of a business. I like how everyone from the administrator, to the dental assistant, to the dental hygienist relate to you on a personal level. I feel like Dr. Oberg's energy and enthusiasm trickles down to every one of her staff as they take the time and attention to address your concerns. Although very busy, they were able to fit me in to get an examination and cleaning in a span of two weeks with following up if I to see if I could come in earlier due to cancellations. The overall procedures went by very quickly and it took longer because I had so many questions. Questions that I found out from friends and colleagues that are normal for them but I found was so refreshing with Dr. Oberg. She sat down with me and went over pretty much every tooth in my mouth on the TV, gave her recommendations and explained in lament terms of why it's important. She answered my concerns and I left feeling very safe and assured that at the end of the day, my health is her biggest priority. Although their fees are slightly higher than the Alberta Blue Cross guide (by a marginal few dollars), I am happy now to say I will see them in 6 months for cleaning. TL;DR: I have great teeth despite not going to the dentist. Professional, knowledgeable, happy staff.
