Warm blanket put over Miss P as best treatment plan organized.
    Sunshine M.

I already was fond of this establishment, but this previous week's events demand an update. On Tuesday my precious cat "Miss P" experienced kidney failure. She was falling over, her 3rd eyelids were showing in sunken eyes while she drooled and cried. It was devastating. My family feared that perhaps we had reached the end of a journey. I rushed in without an appointment and the staff quickly assisted us. When the suggested treatment exceeded my budget, I was heartbroken and crying - fearing that my circumstances were endangering the life of my loyal companion. Dr. Paunovic, Karen, Niko, Shannon, Danielle and Chris treated me with dignity and helped me to find treatment that I could afford. They were patient and hugely accommodating. Yesterday, Chris taught me how to give sub-q injections of fluid to help Miss P cope with the renal disease. I arrived to find renal medicines and food that someone had donated to us! (Tears again - smile. Human kindness rules!) The generosity, knowledge and quick action of Coquitlam Animal Hospital has meant that Miss P is now bright-eyed and playful once again. Thank you is not sufficient but hopefully this review will help other's find their way to the fabulous care available here.

I want to thank the amazing team of dedicated and big hearted people that work at this Animal Hospital! Everyone here is so helpful and genuinely care for the well-being of your pet. My family recently welcomed a new puppy to our crazy life. So far its been an amazing journey but as responsible owners we got all our pup her shots, deworming, rabies etc. Our Penny was reaching adult puppyhood and we wanted to get her spayed, as there are enough dogs in the world. They doctors and vet techs here, made extra precautions that Penny was healthy and ready for her big surgery. Blood work was done and we had to wait some extensive time to make sure her liver enzymes were back to normal before another blood test. Fast forward to a few months later Penny has her first heat and we has to wait by doctors orders until that was well out of her system. Its been a rollercoaster of a ride and each tech and both Doctors have been amazing for support. Penny had some minor complications due to her activeness, simple due to her breed and age! Dr.Briggs and Dr.Paunovic were accommodating to any extra treatment to help her recover. If we ever had any questions they were more then willing to answer them. We were never once charge extensively and each time we brought in Penny for a check up during that time it was always very accommodating. Our Penny LOVES coming to this clinic and bounces off the walls with each person working here. We always recommend this Animal Hospital! Thank you for being amazing people!

Kiyo fell into deep sleep right after returning home.

This is going to be a long and detailed review... I came to CAH to seek a second opinion regarding putting my 14 year old Cocker Spaniel, with array of medical conditions including epilepsy, under GA for some urgent dental procedures (non-stop bleeding from gums/teeth). I was supposed to send my dog, Kiyo, in for the surgery at another animal clinic the next day but given only 30% chance of waking up from the anesthesia, the odds are harrowingly low. I called a few other clinics explaining my situation and finally Joanne from CAH, who took the call, was sympathetic and able to schedule Kiyo in for a same day consultation. So we went, and were warmly greeted by the friendly front end staff. I was quickly ushered into the consultation room and Rose, the vet tech, took notes of Kiyo's conditions and medical history. I was seen by Dr Paunovic on time. He carefully examined Kiyo's mouth in my presence (the other clinic took Kiyo into another room and then told me he couldn't even get close to opening her mouth), and studied the blood test results (which was done at the other clinic) and quite opposite with what the other vet suggested, decided that Kiyo is a good candidate for GA. He patiently went through with me the risks vs necessities of this surgery, granted that Kiyo is old and fragile, and addressed all the concerns that I had. He was not pushy and left me to make the decision, an informed one, myself. His confidence and professionalism shone through and I immediately trusted him over the vet at the other clinic. The surgery was set for two days later. On the day of surgery, Erick was there to welcome Kiyo. He was warm, assuring and gentle with Kiyo, and I really appreciate that he did not rush me to "hand over" Kiyo to him. And as he led Kiyo away by her leash, she just followed him along, no signs of stress or anxiety (she is a very anxious dog). That speaks volume of how comfortable she was there. I got a phone call exactly at the time Erick said they would call, to inform me that the surgery went well and Kiyo has woken up! What a huge relief this was! I went to pick Kiyo up about 2 hours later and while waiting inside the clinic, I couldn't helped but to notice how clean the whole place is. There must be a lot of sanitization done because it smelled so clean in there. Then there she was, fully awake, calm and collected when Kilah carried Kiyo out in her arms. My worries that Kiyo might be so hungry, since she fasted the night before, were unfounded because she was very kindly fed by the staff. It almost looked like Kiyo had a great time there! Kilah carefully went through the Dental Discharge Instructions with me and made sure that any questions I had were answered before I leave. When I got home, I found an error in billing, gave them a call, and it was promptly resolved. All in all, I am extremely grateful to Dr Paunovic and his entire team. Every staff member is friendly, professional and most importantly, empathetic. The level of professionalism is top-notch. You can see that they genuinely love and care for your pets. I can't thank the entire team enough for providing Kiyo the best care and treatment. From a 30% chance to a full recovery (as I typed this review), I am forever grateful. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

They told me they did, but Dr. Ong was in surgery and could see me at a certain time. If she was not able to get out out of surgery I could like my rabbit and she'd see him. When I made the long trek to this hospital they put me in with some absolutely random vet named Dr. Yip, who just had some business cards with his name hand written on them...and introduced himself to me 3 times. This inexperienced vet spoke down to me, had no idea about the most basic things to do with rabbits, and made me feel like I was incompetent (look in the mirror, Dr. Yip!) I complained to the main desk and they lied to me and said all along I had an appointment with this random person who I'd never heard of before. I have no confidence at all that this hospital knows how to deal with patients and rabbits, despite Dr. Ong supposedly being experienced with them. There is no way I would have wasted my time and SO MUCH MONEY (they seriously overcharge) to take my rabbit who was having an emergency to such a far place to be seen by someone who is so completely clueless. I don't know why this place feels like they can take advantage of people and be so disrespectful. No wonder their clinic lobby was completely empty.

He would jump on you whenever you came to visit, and people would be surprised when I tell them his age because he is just that joyful. He did not deserve to have his health in the hands of these deceitful, useless, vets (Dr Wong and Dr Biernacki) who should have their licenses taken away immediately. A week before Ginger's passing, we made a decision that we should have made years ago: to bring him to a better hospital. There they found a significant mass stretching from his diaphragm to his bladder, and he had an estimate of a few days to a week left. About a month before that, my parents brought Ginger to North Road for diarrhea, vomiting, and lack of appetite. There the only thing they did was give him Veraflox, an antibiotic for bacterial infection. When I told another vet about this she said she didn't know why this was prescribed to him. No recommendation for imaging was made at the time, which I now realize was insanely negligent as they KNEW he had cancer. I called Dr Biernacki about this but I had a lot of trouble understanding what he was saying. But the incompetence started even before that, back in May when my mom herself made an appointment with Dr Wong because she was concerned about his Cancer, Dr Wong flat out dismissed it. When I called him a week ago for an explanation he ACTUALLY had the audacity to lie about it, saying he "recommended CT scans" and that there was a "language barrier" issue with my Mom. How completely abhorrent could you be to say something so highly insulting? Saying her english got in the way of making a decision that would prolong her dogs life? Do you have ANY idea what Ginger means to me and my family? No effort to follow up was ever made. When I called Dr Wong for closure, whom I waited hours for to call me, referred to Ginger as "she" again after 1 MINUTE of correcting him. These people clearly put no value in their job, let alone care about your pets. To conclude this review, if you love your dogs in the slightest, get away from this place ASAP.

She was my whole world...and I'm starting therapy next month because of her traumatic death at the hands of Dr Juila Chong (Dr.Maja was off that day) as well as the vet techs who was working there that day. It was noon and she was dead. Pinto simply never came home. It seems like the spay went well according to their report, however the extubation had significant complications resulting in Pinto being re-sedated and her heart stopped 40 minutes later. They didn't have sufficient expertise on site to remove something so common and routine. The Endotracheal tube in the photos they sent me appears to be a spiral fracture - was there twisting force upon removal attempt? Can the tech please describe exactly how they attempted to remove the ETT and can Dr Chong please describe how the tube ended up so far down Pinto's trachea as to be very close to her bronchi? I'll never get the answer to that question because soon after I started asking very reasonable questions about her death they started answering from emails ending with the VCA domain - I felt so betrayed as I would NEVER take my baby to a clinic owned by Mars. There are VCA decals visible on their front door when my partner went to pick up her ashes(as I had a panic attack at the car afterwards), but prior to that, there was no instance on their website being transparent about this. If you want to follow my story getting justice for Pinto, you can do so @pintotheaussie on IG . I'm always happy to share as much as I can about what happened here, as I strongly feel taking your dog here is insanely risky - ESPECIALLY if intubation is part of your pup's treatment. This included teeth cleanings as well as surgery.

That's what kept me there all those years, but unfortunately that is now a long and distant dream that once was this establishment. After reading multiple 1-4 star reviews, there is consistent story there; unprofessional staff, lack of care, and over charging. This clinic sadly reached it's expiry date of caring as they have too many patients, and Dr Maja is no longer involved or doesn't seem to care anymore. Read the Google Reviews for even more experiences from people that seem to have real valid stories. Unfortunately, he left the clinic for reasons unknown, and shortly after, another competent vet, Dr. Ali Fakheri, joined--but he, too, left very quickly. We were then left with no choice but to see another vet named Mary Habib. I'm honestly hesitant to even call her a doctor. She saw my dog twice, both times for the exact same issue--a recurring ear infection. The first time, she prescribed ear drops, which temporarily helped. Two months later, the infection returned. This time, she took a sample and said the bacterial growth was "very very tiny small," then prescribed another drop. I reminded her that this was the same issue from just two months ago and asked for a long-term solution. Her response? "There is no permanent cure." Really? If this clinic can not even properly treat a simple ear infection, I seriously question how some of their vets received their degrees. This latest prescription made my dog's condition worse--her ear became red, swollen, and extremely hot. Concerned, I consulted a veterinarian outside of Canada, followed their advice, and thankfully, my dog's ear returned to normal. I will never recommend this clinic. Either they lack the proper medical knowledge, or they purposely give temporary relief just so pet owners keep coming back, paying more each time. It feels like they see our beloved pets as nothing more than walking dollar signs. Shameful.

Before I even get home (10min) they had already called to say he was good to go, that it hadn't broken the skin and there was no infection blah blah blah. They ask when will I be there to pick him up and I tell them 10min. I head back to get him. Because of Covid I call when I arrive to say I'm there, but the lady puts me on hold for 5 min (checked my call time), after the first couple of minutes and seeing all sorts of staff milling around I go up to the window while still on hold.
