Recently had our 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration at Cora's and it was a huge success. We had a party of 25 ordering from the regular menu. The food came out quickly, was delicious and the wait staff was truly professional. The owners, Erin and Preston, accommodated some special requests for us that made our special night truly memorable. Little out of our way but, wanted to try it. The atmosphere was a little different from what I'm used too but, it was fine. Service was great, friendly and fast. We tried a couple of different things and enjoyed all of them. The nachos were good, each chip was covered in toppings but still crunchy. The chulupa was good and was stuffed. I came to Cora's 471 Grill to place a to-go order and briefly sit with friends who were already there. I knew live music was scheduled later that evening and, out of courtesy, I confirmed with the male owner that it would be okay for me to stay as long as I left before the band started. He agreed. When I placed my order the band had not started playing nor did they seem to be set up yet. However, I handed over my debit card expecting to be charged immediately for the food. I was not told that a bar tab would be opened. I found out only when another customer informed me that this was the practice. Concerned, I asked the waitress directly, and she confirmed that while the tab hadn't yet been opened, she intended to do so. I made it clear that I was not okay with this--I wasn't ordering alcohol, wasn't dining in, and had no intention of running a tab. Instead of resolving the issue, the waitress took it to the female owner, who responded in a tone I found dismissive and unnecessarily confrontational. At that point, I asked for my card back and left without receiving any food or water. I'm sharing this experience so that others are aware. It's important for businesses to communicate clearly and respect customer choices, especially when it involves handling of payment cards. While I'm not offering legal advice, I later looked up Texas laws and found that Texas Penal Code § 32.31 and § 32.315 address how debit card information is used and the importance of customer consent. Those interested can look them up for themselves. I sincerely hope the management at Cora's 471 Grill reflects on this experience and adopts policies that prioritize clear communication, respect for consent, and customer service. read more

First time and will def go back! I had the salad bar and two crunchy tacos. Salad had a lot of choices but the tacos for me were good. The meat actually had flavor and everything was fresh. This little restaurant that has been in Castroville forever is a great place to go. They have uncovered outside dining by the kids play area, covered but partially open and then another room that is inside (the floor is old and uneven so watch your step!). The play area is really nice for the kids, although I wish it wasn't a sandy ground for them (deep sand), rubber playground chips would have been so much better in my opinion. The servers have always been great! Very friendly and attentive even when understaffed and busy. Came here because they have a playground -- figured that meant they were family‑friendly. My toddler cried (because, you know, toddlers), and instead of any compassion, I was told BY THE OWNER to take him outside until he stopped. Funny thing? I asked to sit outside when we first got there and was told no. So apparently toddlers are welcome to play on the playground but not... act like toddlers? Trying to manage two kids solo while my husband's on military orders is hard enough -- being humiliated for it is next level. I've been coming here for years--not because the food is great, but because I wanted to support a local business. That ends now. I saw a small roach near the salad bar and politely brought it to the owner's attention. Instead of addressing the issue, she was rude, defensive, and completely unapologetic. To make matters worse, she accused me of just trying to get a free meal, which is absurd and insulting. Her behavior was unprofessional and downright disrespectful. Dubbed "The Best Nachos in Texas," is Cora's 471 Grill off of TX 471. A no frills atmosphere with a down home country feel to it. I have been to this place dozens of times and never have been disappointed. While I've only had mainly nachos from this place, I've never been disappointed with this place at all. Late post... but after living in the area for over 2 years passing by all the time we finally decided to try this place out! Its nestled on a small farm road out by all the fields, it has a play area for kids outside. Walk in and greeted right away by the sweet ladies that stand at the desk. We always choose to eat in the dining room since there's AC in there! Service has been great both times we have been, they have a young lady make you a salad of your choice and they nice about piling toppings on if you want them! The nachos here are just ridiculous!! So good so tasty with all the toppings, I could go back just for those! But we've have fried fish, burgers, CFS, and steak here! All which were great! Decided to come over to Cora's the day after Christmas to get out of the house and listen to some music. We show up about an hour before the music starts and are asked to sit outside because all the inside tables are reserved. There is NO place on the on the website to request reservations! Then we ask for a heater to help with the cold outside ....and the manager refused to bring one out saying he needed them inside. There were at least 10 heaters INSIDE! And the space was about the size of a medium sized living room!! I'd love to come again, but would really like to know how to "reserve" a table so I don't have to sit outside in the cold. Also note there is not a full service bar. Only beee, wine and sangria is served. So don't expect to have a margarita with your nachos. read more

The Alamo Burger has the nacho fixins infused into the patty, bacon and spicy ranch dressing all served on homemade sourdough bun. So good! Nachos came out on an old cafeteria platter (I'm ok w that- kind of goes w the small town vibe) but honestly this was supposed to serve a bunch of people. My son and I are new to the area and we went to go look around for places nearby to sit outside and relax. We heard about Cora's and wanted to give it a try. We loved the atmosphere and the friendliness of the wait staff. That being said, good luck trying to ask or learn more about the restaurant itself as you will be met with a boatload of snarky and condescending remarks from what I think was the owner. The way she acted when we just simply asked about outdoor availability basically detracted from an otherwise decent experience and single-handedly took a couple stars off this review by itself. I'm not sure how they will grow their business if this is how they treat first time patrons as the first impression we got made me not want to come back again which is unfortunate given the otherwise good time we had here. read more

Stopped in on the way to Castroille for a quick bite. We sat outside under the patio to enjoy the nice breeze. My group ordered the nachos and they were quite tasty. I had the crispy beef tacos and they were well seasoned and the taco shell was nice and crunchy. My friends had the burgers, fries and onion rings. The burgers were a good size and my friends liked them both. The fries were a miss as they were very greasy but the onion rings were the bomb. Not greasy and very crunchy. Overall the staff was friendly and the food was good. I would recommend stopping in if you're on your way into/out of Castroville. read more
