Cute lil spot. First time visiting Cora's. The place gives me roadhouse vibes. We ordered the large nacho, fried mushrooms, and the one visit salad bar. Lemme go on and break these down for ya. Mushrooms are beer battered, a bit much for me. U have a choice of gravy or ranch, we tried both. My hubby liked the gravy and said the chicken fried steak gotta be fire if the gravy is that good. I peeled off most of the fried batter while eating them. Don't have to order that again, unless I'm drinking a cocktail. The salad bar was very nice and fresh. They actually make the salad for you. It was clean and inviting. The nachos...they were good. Reminds of those nachos you toss together at home. Ground beef , American cheese, jalapeños, tomatoes and beans. We enjoyed them. I will definitely go back because I would love to try their catfish. Someone else ordered it and it looked good. A few things. They do not rush your food (thank u Lawd). The staff is very nice. They offer live music by what looks to be local talent weekly. The whole set up is cool. Food isn't all pricey and they don't give you too much. read more

8/29/2021 the beer battered mushrooms are top notch! I would definitely return for the mushrooms. I also ordered the homemade chicken tenders..sadly the batter did not have any seasoning whatsoever. I went ahead and let the manager know about the lack of seasoning ...the tenders cooked to perfection and very tender..a good thing. i told her...she seemed very offended by me letting her know about the unseasoned chicken tenders i went ahead and added salt and pepper to them...instead of appreciating me letting her know she said "we haven't had a complaints"..i told her" some people don't like to speak up but I'm doing it because that's what I would want for someone to tell if our food wasent seasoned..she rolled her eyes and continue to deny my issue on the matter. She said "oh our customers let us know" i told her "well not today they didn't"..to top it off she threatened my 75 year old dad and my self that she might have to move us to a smaller table if she had a large group come in which i agreed my did doesn't like boths and all the tables were being used. So we choose to sit in one of the large tables towards the back.... Management was very rude and unprofessional. wasent even asking for them to be remake or a refund the chicken tenders just letting her know..she could have taken the constructive criticism and fixed the issue with there tenders ..simple mistake but she could have handled that a lot better. read more

If you want to be exposed to COVID-19, this is the place for you. The servers don't wear masks much less most of the customers who come in. The salad bar is open to all. And if you ask for condiments and salt/pepper, they don't bring the single-serve items. I'm shocked that the health department is allowing this. read more

Wow this place has changed. And for the better. Great food and large servings, so bring your appetite. One of our favorites is the chicken fried steak. Most of the time we have to get a carry out as it covers the plate. Lots of covered seating as well. Their open hours can be a small challenge, but no more than other places. They have a small band play on Thursday nights I think. read more

This place was our go to spot at least 1-2 times a week until it wasn't. Something happened with the quality of the food along the way, I believe the owners sold and it just hasn't been the same. Service is a hit or miss depending on the mood of the waitress and hostess. I love the inside and outside dining areas, very cool rustic feel. This place does get packed so come early to avoid having to park across 471. Multiple people have died crossing the street leaving or coming to restaurant, it needs to be addressed and is a huge safety hazard. Nothing has been done or upgraded to the road, very sad. read more

When I went to have lunch there, it was dirty and it had a rat stench in the restaurant. When we got our food, my chicken sandwich was rubbery and freezer burnt tasting. I would never eat there again. Very gross, I would definitely skip this place read more

We have been to this restaurant twice now in the last couple of months. Food and service have been excellent each time. We recommend the fried mushrooms, they are just superb.The Sirloin Steak and pork chops are delicious plus the baked potato was perfect. We also enjoyed the salad bar. I went in yesterday for dinner and was greeted/seated right away. The waitress was awesome. She works there with her husband so the energy the two both brought to their guests was inviting and welcoming. The food is good with large portions. They have a slide and kitty park for younger ones so that keeps them busy while the adults talk. They don't have sweet tea so that's a loss but not entirely bad, they have a great selection of beer. If you want something different outside of the city this is your place! Cora's has a laid back atmosphere and such good comfort food. Chicken fried steak, great burgers & the nachos are so good too! Some of the dishes come with a salad too. The salad bar is has a pretty good variety. They also have an outdoor play area for the kiddos which makes this place very family friendly. They also have a calendar of events. We have seen a few live performances here and have had a great time. This place really transports you to another time. We really enjoy coming here. read more

I was really impressed with this place. Even more so that we came in about 45 minutes before closing (coming so close to closing is something I almost always dread doing when it comes to any restaurant) and they still treated us like kings! Seriously! It was as if God coughed up great customer service and made it in the form of the employees here. We were constantly checked up on and asked if there was anything else we needed and so on and so forth. The nachos are bomb! The three of us were famished after a long day of driving in the hill country and the nachos hit the spot! The salad bar is small but FRESH. I even saw one of the employees re-stocking some of the beets(?) at 9:45 (and they closed at 10). Now if THAT doesn't start to convince you to come here, then I don't know what will. The plates for the salad bar trip are small - and understand that unless you specifically order unlimited salad bar, you will only get one trip - so make that one trip count! I shared the chicken fried steak and it was massive. Like a heart attack massive. And the fries weren't just leftover fries that they had from earlier in the day - I'm telling you that these guys were ON THEE BALL. The gravy needed a little bit of work but I was happy nonetheless. Great place! ambiance, food and service very good. We had cheese nachos(excellent; just American cheese and jalapeños, broiled to perfection), pepper steak was the best out of the group. Also had chicken fried steak (good, but I wish one of the side options was mashed potatoes; instead I opted for baked potato over fries). Salad bar was crisp and cold. Chili taco was meh, a bit of a mess because it looked like a casserole instead of a taco. Peach cobbler was a little doughy and wish we had not gotten ice cream smothering it. Maybe that's normal, but seems very strange to me that's it's always only 1/2 a piece or one strip on a sandwich. If I'm ordering the bacon chicken sandwich I definitely expect more bacon! read more

Back road cafe between San Antonio and Castroville. And like most wide spots in the road, food and service were right on time. Went with four friends so we ordered a bunch of food. Entrees come with a side salad. The salad bar is fresh with a good selection of items and dressings. Extra points for pickled beets and pickled okra. Iced tea is unsweetened but fresh brewed. Sodas are good-sized but do not offer free refills. Beer is decidedly cold. The waitress was attentive and drinks came quickly. Once we placed our order food arrived in a couple waves - super nachos, pork chops, Alamo burger, enchiladas and a side taco, and chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes. The nachos won the day a single layer of quartered tortillas covered with cheese, ground beef and sliced pickled jalapeños put under the broiler served on an institutional tray. Normally onions and tomatoes are included it we left them off. The salsa was fresh, thick and perfectly spicy. A couple of the nachos got a second too long under the flame for a bit too much dark and crisp bite but fortunately one diner likes them that way. The chicken fried steak had a crispy crust with a tender inside that carried a true beefy flavor throughout. The best part - the crust stayed put. Seasoning was perfect - a little sweet, not salty. I do wish the gravy had more big flecks of pepper. The boneless pork chops and the burger were grilled yet tender. When you think of how convenient this restaurant is to both Castroville and Far West San Antonio and the live music played here and how much development is moving toward it, management best get ready for more diners - and soon. read more

This place is one of my new favorites. I actually am dissapointed I didnt stop sooner. The nachos are still stellar and they probably have the best fried mushrooms I have ever had in my life. Playground is good for the little ones and this place is a nice little slice of S. Texas. My whole family loves this place and their largest nachos are enough for a family or 2 really large men. My first time at Cora's for date night left a bit to be desired. Trying something new and different is always exciting for me and I maybe set my expectations too high. I really wanted some tasty Mexican food, I ordered cheese enchiladas. Disappointed when I realized they used American cheese instead of Cheddar and chili sauce instead of red. I will try again and order something more "diner traditional". Their posted hours were 5pm-10pm but they actually closed at 9pm. Great little restaurant...loved the atmosphere. The waitstaff does a great job of attending to the customers..which is great! The food. I ordered the nachos, but I expected fajita instead of ground beef...either way..the nachos were good. Horrible! This place has gone way downhill. The nachos were cold and had a somewhat off-putting fruity taste to them. I ordered onion rings and they were the worst things I have ever eaten. I quit after eating one of them. Which is not easy when you are paying almost $8.00 per order. The onion ring batter had huge lumps of unmixed dry flour and it neglected to adhere to the onion slices themselves resulting in huge pieces of raw onion surrounded by lumps of dry flour and not much else. Even the ketchup was watery as if they had attempted to augment it to save a nickel. Cora's used to be a great place to meet and eat. Now all I can recommend is to pass it by as quickly as possible and not waste your hard earned money. read more

Okay so, 5 stars for this old schoolhouse in the middle of nowhere because it's the most charming little gem I've discovered in a while. I know what you're thinking, and I promise I'll update my review when I try something other than the nachos. But holy sh*t the nachos. And the salsa.They come on a lunch tray if you get the large... Derrricious!!! I ordered a small with no meat, too, plus a jalapeño popper. Slammin jalapeño, and the vegetarian nachos are just as good as the meat nachos. Open parking-we hauled a trailer when traveling through. Small supreme nacho plate was full and pretty good. Made a special request and was able to get a chicken fried chicken plate. Clean, quick, and enjoyed the classic 80's country that was playing while we had a late lunch. read more
