We decided to stop by Mya's after seeing their impressive 100 score on Google. The restaurant was very clean, and the service was good, our waitress was friendly and our food arrived remarkably fast. The flavors overall were good . A big hit for our family was the Mickey Mouse shaped pancakes; the kids absolutely loved them! My only small critique is that the salsas could use a bit more of a kick. We prefer a spicier profile, but that's my personal preference. As a parent, I was especially appreciative that they actually have a changing table in the restroom. I've noticed lately that many local restaurants don't offer a space for diaper changes at all. While the table itself had some stains and didn't look perfectly clean, I always use my own changing pad anyway, so having the dedicated space was the most important part for me. Breakfast at Mya...Waitress took her time taking our order this morning. Other than that, staff was polite. Migas was OK but covered in American cheese. Potatoes were OK but needed to be a bit more crispy. Beans were meh/no flavor. Flour tortillas and corn tortillas were bought at HEB (or somewhere similar) and were super disappointing. Huevos a la mexicana were OK. Salsas had good flavor but were not picosos. Oh and btw, they add 4% to your bill when you pay with a debit or credit card. read more

Our first visit to Mayas Tex Mex Cafe was for breakfast. I was surprised from the outside of how spacious the restaurant actually was. This is a home style traditional Mexican restaurant with an extensive menu that offers something for everyone at the table. My chorizo and egg tacos were just like a home cooked meal with large homemade tortillas stuffed with plenty of meat and sausage. Very generous portions and flavorful food. My retirement group got together here for lunch today. There were 17 when we had finally managed to get ourselves there. I was not with the group when they picked this location for our April luncheon. Truth be told, I questioned the choice, as we don't usually go to the smaller local places. I arrived after about half of the group was already sitting down. So many people were firing questions at me or just saying hello, that I was too distracted to focus on the menu. I decided to have the beef enchilada plate that was on the special board. It was a good choice. I have said many times that I evaluate "new to me" Mexican restaurants on three items: refried beans, rice, and tortillas. As long as I am happy with those three things, I am usually okay with whatever else comes with them. Here, the refried beans were exactly as I like them. They were thick- not soupy. My toungue sensed that they were made with manteca. If they were not, they managed to get that taste in there somehow. I like my refried beans to be made with manteca (lard) - not vegetable oil. The rice was very tasty. I could eat a bowl of that and walk away satisfied. It had both a great texture and wonderful taste. Now, the tortillas... This is sad. I can't give a fair review of them. My son called me after being stung by a wasp, causing me to step outside for a while to get that situation (which grew into a door blocked by swarming wasps, a dead garage remote, and a triggered house alarm) under control. By the time I got back to the table, the tortillas had been there for too long. It had already taken a while for the food to be served to my end of the table. (I'm not complaining, but our half of the table was served after the other half was finished eating. That sometimes happens when a group of 17 comes in out of the blue.) So, being the bonehead I am, I ate a cold tortilla instead of requesting a fresh one. Now, here is the problem... The tortilla tasted good. However, a cold tortilla doesn't have that heavenly aroma I want to smell. The texture is not gonna have that special chew factor I am looking for. So, I am not going to review the tortillas here until I go back and try fresh ones. I imagine they are excellent, though. The beef enchiladas were very nice. They were stuffed thick with a very well seasoned ground beef. The sauce on them was perfect to my taste. Altogether, the beef enchilada plate was a total Tex-Mex success! I'm talking way up there on the list of best enchilada plates I've eaten. As far as I was able to see while sitting at a table for 17, everyone enjoyed their meals. I only heard one comment that was negative. One of the ladies told me her cheese enchiladas were to "cheesy". Yes, you read that correctly. She was complaining about cheese in her cheese enchiladas. Oh, well... I can't wait to go back and explore some of the other dishes. It is not the only Tex-Mex place close to my house, but it is another great choice, and will add a little variety to my list of good places to eat nearby. read more

This was my first visit here. I read some of the reviews on yelp and thought I would give it a try. I ordered the huevos and substituted for hashbrowns for .50 cent extra, and added bacon. It comes with flour or corn tortillas. My hubby had a bacon and egg and chorizo taco. My food came out fast and the best part was that it was freshly made. Plate was hot and it was very tasty. So we met her there and weren't disappointed. Refried Beans: Excellent! Rice: Excellent! Chile Relleno: The best I've had in a restaurant in YEARS Taco al Pastor: Best I've had in the U.S.! The only downside is that the large guacamole (about $9), was pretty steep for what you get, which is the equivalent of about half a medium avocado on a bed of shredded lettuce. I really like this place and I am glad I gave it a chance. I go to the yoga den next door and wanted some horchata after class but wasn't sure if I wanted to eat so I decided to leave. The lady working the register asked if everything was OK and suggested many dishes to me which ultimately made me decide to stay and try the gorditas and of course the horchata which is what I really wanted anyway. The gordita was pretty good. I don't eat beef often but when I do I am super picky about it and I didn't quite care for the ground beef that they put into their gorditas.The quality was definitely reflected in the 3 dollar price of the massive taco.
