Nice, newish store on very pleasant and low key Charles Street (so much easier than Newbury St. --- shhhhhhhh) with a few great clothing lines, some Me & Ro jewelry, gift items, etc, and a gyrotonics studio in the back. The help was nice, and they should get points for squeezing in a "dressing room", ie, curtained off area. The 20% off sale made the Lululemon pants I bought a bargain. Unfortunately they were not certain if I could bring them to a Lulu store for their free alterations, so... I'll wear them on the long side. One request - the two labs are adorable, but they don't mix well with black yoga pants I bought, or most of the clothing for that matter. Maybe some doggie daycare is in order? read more

I would go back at full-price! My only glitch was that the website says it is on River St., but the entrance is actually on Charles. I went to Core de Vie twice, courtesy of two Groupons. Both massages were great. If memory serves, Jason was nice and gave plenty of attention to my back. Phoenix (who I saw most recently) was fantastic. I like a LOT of pressure, and Phoenix delivered. I tend to keep a lot of tension in my upper back, and she did her best to work those knots out! (Every masseur has told me I store a lot of tension in my back, or some variation of that...) As for the space, it can be bit confusing at first as there is a boutique in the front. Not to worry, you've arrived at the correct destination. Just let them know what you are there for. I got a Bloomspot coupon for a Brazilian here and I couldn't be happier. I made a same day appointment and had Julie who was amazing! The atmosphere in the room was relaxing, the lights were mostly dimmed and there were candles and soothing music - I felt like I was going to get a massage. Julie was very professional, found out about who I was, why I was getting a Brazilian, and exactly what I wanted done and where. After the waxing was done, she had me check to make sure everything was done the way I liked. She was very thorough and I can honestly say, this is the cleanest and most precise waxing I've ever had. I usually go to Elizabeth Grady (which is priced about the same with regular pricing) and they are very good, but I've never been this happy with a Brazilian! I'm moving across the country pretty soon, otherwise Core de Vie would become my new regular place! read more

Jessica Breton (acupuncture and tuina) and Laura Blaikie (facials) get 5 stars! Jessica is a superstar who has helped me through injury after injury- she just GETS it. And a visit to Laura always leaves you feeling beautiful and refreshed! Luis is an AMAZING second generation pilates instructor- his method is so smooth and flowing, and he is able to dissect your movements and really understand your body. And Kim, Arian, and Dean are all amazing Gyrotonic instructors! Core De Vie seems like it's not much on the outside, but once you're inside there is a wonderful little boutique that carries lululemon, vibrams, and assorted other goodies. Behind the doors is a beautifully sunlit gyrotonic and pilates studio, behind THAT is a room with 3 power plate machines! And downstairs is the spa! Jessica Rose is an amazing concierge and really is truly wonderful and helpful- and does the merchandising all by herself! What a wonderful little shop. read more

Wow. Can you please open a Core De Vie in New York? My mom and I decided to get facials here together while I was home for Mothers Day. Not only was this the most enjoyable spa experience I've ever had, but I got the best results as well. They customed the treatment to our skin type and used the best natural skin products I've ever tried (and I'm "into" that stuff...) And oh, did I mention the back rub and foot massage that goes with it? Heaven. Core de Vie has a store (with a great assortment of yoga clothing, jewelry, and goodies), a gyrotonic studio, a yoga studio, and a spa. Everything is clean and relaxed (think sky blue walls and tranquility music). You can tell this is a real neighborhood gem. Can't wait to go back. read more

I do yoga here with Amber (the 6:30 Monday morning Hatha class). It's intense -- she works us pretty hard -- but she's the best instructor I've ever had. She does a great job of continuity week to week so it's easy to see the improvement over time. The ambiance is nice -- their studio in the back is quiet and dark and doesn't get the Charles St noise -- and everyone there is always very welcoming. I'm too cheap to buy the fancy Lululemon gear, but my mom bought a pair of the Vibram 5 Fingers shoes from them and loves them like crazy. read more

She has a disposition for new and seasoned Pilates students alike, combining the rare patience of a teacher with a deep understanding of kinesiology to get the most out of her class. I came here for a discounted 50 min. massage and it was fabulous! I think his name but Michael but I'm not positive. He was very thorough and used the right amount of pressure. If you're a woman who is uncomfortable w/ a male massage therapist you should say that when you make an appt. because they didn't tell me over the phone who my massage would be with. I don't care either way so I didn't bother to ask. The place I normally go to doesn't allow tipping though this place I was asked if I wanted to leave a tip. I don't think I'll be back for a massage because the regular price + tip is just too expensive for me. I might be back though to check out the clothing because they gave me a coupon for a further discount. If money wasn't an issue, I would definitely be back for a great massage! read more

This place is really excellent! I went there for a massage and it was amazing! The atmosphere is great, the staff is friendly and professional, the massage was sooooo good, and the entire experience was beyond relaxing! If I had to say a negative it would have to be the price, it's just a little to rich for my blood, but I suppose a day of pampering isn't about being thrifty. I had a massage with Cristina this past weekend which was probably the best hour of my year so far! It upsets me that it took living in this city for 13 years to find her. After countless massages at countless different spas around the city, Cristina's was on such a different level of fabulousness that I couldn't NOT write a review- even if it means it will be tougher to get an appointment next time. While not cheap (I believe $110 for an hour), the old adage "you get what you pay for" applies. I would rather one truly great massage from her every month, than 2 subpar ones from the likes of Massage Envy. Definitely "Best of Boston" worthy. Ellen Comerford is a genius at her craft. She has a wealth of knowledge in the field of body alignment and incorporates several schools of thought in her treatment. I have suffered from chronic hip, knee and ankle pain since an injury 3 years ago, which has since healed but left my body unnaturally out of alignment. Ellen looked at my posture, taught me how I should be standing and distributing my weight on my feet and literally after one session I have regained so much flexibility. I can feel muscles that have been dormant for years actually firing up, which has taken the pressure off my joints. Every time I worked out, I felt that I wasn't actually working my muscles because my body felt it was still injured so instead I would be fearing each lunge or squat would bring a sharp stab to my knees and every pose that relied on my hamstring in anyway would just remind me of the perpetual 'knot' I had come to live with. After the first session, I felt so free I went straight to a yoga class which for the first time in so long felt like it should - conditioning muscles in the correct way, not yanking on an old injury and making me miserable and unsteady/ untrusting of my knees. I have done physical therapy, seen chiropractors, tried multiple sessions of acupuncture, rolfing, graston, deep tissue, cortisol injections - nothing compares to the release and realignment I am feeling after just one session with Ellen. She understands fascia and how it controls muscles and bones throughout your entire body. She came recommended by Yamuna, who has a large online following and is a body practitioner in New York I was prepared to go see. I literally cried from relief several times during Ellen's treatment and have happily done the exercises she has prescribed because they actually FEEL like they are making an impact and correcting my bad form. The studio is also lovely and if you are lucky, your treatment comes with her sweet dog, Pasha, roaming around and entertaining you. Ellen...THANK YOU! read more

I'm surprised no one has written a review on their Power Plate Class Offering. I was pleasantly surprised to find Power Plate class in Boston, relatively close to where I live. The classes are small, with max 3 people (due to # of machines available), which is great because Ellen makes sure everyone is in the right form. The 30 minute class first seemed easy, but I could definitely feel the work-out hours later. Ellen is personable and knowledgeable. It seemed like there were some regulars - probably why they don't need to advertise too much. I selfishly hope more people hear about the benefits about Power Plates and sign up for their classes so Core De Vie can increase the number of offered classes. Got an 80 minute massage after a long stretch of work. Overall very pleased with the experience, and will probably go back as it is very convenient being one of the few places in Beacon Hill that offers massage. The girl who gave the massage was very good and clearly knew what she was doing. The only issue I had with the massage itself was that I really just wanted a relaxation massage and that was what I asked for, but she definitely did a lot of deep tissue maneuvers. I'm sore today! Like I said, overall she did a good job and would go back to her, but would be more vocal about asking her to turn down the pressure. If you want a Swedish, relaxation massage, just make sure you are VERY clear this is what you want. The space is very cute and makes the most of the small Beacon Hill real estate, but I did have to walk through a private pilates session to get to the spa area downstairs and back up to use the bathroom (I am guessing this would be more awkward for that poor lady on the machine than it was for me, though). The massage room is warm and comfortable. While in the massage room, I could hear the class going on upstairs as well as people walking around the retail part of the store. Not a huge deal, but I really look forward to completely tuning out when I get a massage and it detracted just a little. All the staff was very nice and I thought the dog was very cute! read more

I have been working with Ellen for several months to help a creaky/arthritic hip, and to prevent a total hip replacement. As an active athlete whose desire is to be exercising non stop until my last breath: already had spinal surgery after ny marathon (DNA) arthritis. I was incapacitated - I tried my every possible homeopathic option available: none of which provided any relief. My knee surgery was scheduled for Thursday- my first session with Ellen was the Monday prior. I struggled with walking and had intense pain, swollen. AFTER my first session - I had a dramatic increase in mobility and my pain diminished greatly! SURGERY CANCELLED THANKS TO ELLEN. I go to to Core de Vie for my eyebrows and I am a HUGE fan! They are friendly, knowledgeable, and I always receive great service! My skin is very sensitive and I have not broken out at all after getting waxed. This could be because the technician knows what she's doing and because of the wax that they use; I believe they are from all natural ingredients the owner's create from local products. Plus Amy Wasserman is amazing (the technician that does my brows)! They are always eager to get me an appointment no matter when I call. I find that the price is reasonable and very attractive given they are one of the best eyebrow waxing I have ever gotten. The owner greets me as soon as I come in and I love the atmosphere and their two friendly dogs. Highly, highly recommend! Studio is small and cute. I took a Pilates class in a small group on a whim as I have been practicing for a while and heard great things about this place. I don't know if I was unimpressed with the instructor Nikki or if the whole thing was underwhelming. I just felt like this lady didn't know what she was doing really and pretended the whole way through. She shouldn't be leading a class as she can't explain what to do next or help with form. Kind of a snobby attitude too which I could understand if she was decent at teaching but what a bimbo! There are better places in the city to take a class and certainly better instructors. read more
