Run, don't use them, we've been waiting over a year for our system to work. All we get are lies.

I can't say enough good things about my experience with this company…read more A few months ago, I was walking in my neighborhood and noticed a house with a solar system installed. I knocked on their door and asked who installed their system and what they thought of it. They had no idea who installed because it was already there when they bought the home. They added that it was not working so they hired GC Solar & Electric to fix it. They were extremely pleased with their work and highly recommended them to me, gave me their contact information. I checked out the company's website, and their ratings and reviews at other sites. They were all stellar! So, I contacted the company to get a quote. My home has clay tiles, and I have a detached garage with shingles. Previous solar companies I had gotten quotes from had stated they didn't install systems on clay tiles, but said the garage would be perfect. Horacio, the Director of Operations at GC Solar, came out to review the site and agreed that a shingle roof was an easier option for solar installation than clay, but clay would still be possible. The garage has limited roof area, so it was questionable if there was enough space for an adequate number of solar panels to meet our power needs. After careful measuring and inspection of the garage's electrical setup by Horacio and his technical team, they concluded we should be good to go. I chatted with Horacio further to get some information about the company. He said they are in it for the long term and are committed to ensuring customers have an ultimate experience. They use US made components and panels, and the system is designed so if there's an issue with one panel, it doesn't affect the others. He came across as very honest and sincere, which is rare based on my many years dealing with salesmen. When I received the quote, I was pleased to see the amount meant the system would pay for itself in about 7 years, and likely sooner since power rates go up just about every year. Genesis, the company's electrical engineer, designed the system and submitted it to the county for approval. Once it was approved, the team installed the framework for holding the panels and the prewiring. This passed county inspection without any issues, which in my experience is an achievement because county inspectors can be really ruthless/nitpicky. Once the inspection passed, the team completed the installation and a final county inspection was done. It also passed without any issues. I was impressed! The only thing left was to alert the power company for them to install a two way meter so it can record power credits from the solar system, as well as usage of the grid. Once the new meter was installed, the team came out to activate the system and ensure everything was working optimally. Horacio walked me through the Enphase mobile app so I can monitor the system going forward. All in all, the whole project was without any problems at all. The company was excellent in their communication as I was kept informed through the entire process. I would highly recommend them to everyone. They are an exceptionally well run operation and really know what they are doing.

The construction quality is top-notch, exceeding my expectations, and the pool looks even better than the initial plans. I noticed on the widget that the production was zero. When a consumer purchases a solar system, it's usually a financial decision to save money on electricity. Keeping it reliable and operating is that last thing you should have to worry about. Keep in mind, Goldin Solar isn't responsible for an equipment failure. The manufacturer is SolarEdge. I've contacted them for service. I'll update my review after the repair & their response time. They usually send great personable technicians. UPDATE: I was contacted Sept 20, 2024 that the inverter needed to be replaced by SolarEdge. It would cost $500 in labor, which I immediately paid. I believe the previous time I paid $350 to replace the inverter. It's not Goldin Solar's fault these things fail so often, but it sure hurts my pocketbook. Regardless, they are being responsive. They really should invest in software such as Salesforce to manage their customer maintenance and communication, since it appears to be causing issues for them. I've been asked by several about optimizers failing. In 7 years, no optimizers have failed. I am waiting for the SolarEdge inverter to arrive in the mail. I'll update after the repair. UPDATE: My Solaredge inverter arrived yesterday. I contacted "Michael" via text, and he told me he would send somebody the next day in the morning. The tech showed up today and replaced the inverter. This entire process was exactly 30 days. Keep in mind, the delay was due to Solaredge not shipping as quickly as Goldin Solar expected them to ship the box. I think that's a 5-star result, even after having to pay $500 for a repair. It's a ton of money and 3.5 months of electricity + 1 month of zero production. Regardless, it's a business and I need them to be profitable so they are there to support my system in the future. I don't want other hands involved. The entire team is non-responsive and everything takes ridiculously long. From contract signing to getting the system fully operational took well over a year. They claim that is normal, but everybody I ever talked to had their system installed in about half that time. The only thing they are good at is covering up for each other and coming up with excuses. A year after completion one of our panels broke. In the contract they claim to have a highly responsive service department and fast turnaround times on warranty claims, but that is a total lie. They are again completely non-responsive. A month after starting the warranty claim we are still nowhere. Given how dishonest this company is, likely all or most of the positive reviews are fake and made up by the company itself in the time they spend not responding to their customers. All the negative reviews echo my experience and it is highly unlikely that they randomly choose to provide excellent service to some and dismal service to others with no middle ground. Do yourself a favor and do not use this company.

He tried to tell me that because it was the holidays he was understaffed and couldn't begin installation, but he didn't know that I could see his workers installing my neighbor's panels while I was on the phone with him. That was what prompted me to call to inquire on the status- because I referred her AFTER I signed my contract. I actually wondered if it was because I am Black and my neighbor was Latinos like he is, why my panels were not being installed first. I then wondered if it was a scam and called the loan company and requested a fraud investigation on the case. They contacted him and he blamed the City stating they were the hold up. So I called the City to inquire and a representative showed me how to navigate the website to view for myself that they've been waiting on One Up Solar to satisfy a safety hazard for almost 3 months. I was extremely upset to learn that I was lied to once again. When I called back to complain about the unprofessionalism and lies, Ricardo told me I was being impatient and then revealed to me that the person who referred me was still waiting on their panel installations, and that it can take up to a year for installation. I told him it was unprofessional to tell me about customers affairs regardless if I knew them. I told him that I needed the installation done because the loan company wanted me to start paying on the loan since it's been almost 6 months. He said it was common for his customers to start paying the loan and he offered to send me a check to make the payment. I told him that was problematic and dishonest because if I started making payments for something I didn't receive, it would be implying that I did receive the products and I was not comfortable doing that. He stated he did it all the time for customers- so I asked for it in writing and he refused to do that. Instead, he had his workers drop the check off and pretty much let me know that I couldn't cancel the contract because the grace period had long expired, and if I tried to he'd sue me because he already purchased the materials. The entire experience was a nightmare. I thought about not leaving a review, but I wish I actually did my research to know there are plenty other solar companies out there with better offers and competitive rates who will put the customers first. When I finally decided to research One Up Solar for myself, I saw that others actually made it known that Ricardo is an extremely rude and unprofessional businessman. I'm not even going to get into the other issues I had. Listen... do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. I could've gotten way more loan options and better rates with other solar companies. I am kicking myself for signing with One Up Solar for their referral incentive instead of taking the time to check out the competitions. EVERY SOLAR COMPANY IS GIVING AWAY INCENTIVES. They're getting roughly $50K for an installation, so $1K-$2K is nothing to them. Also... look into getting solar panels installed FOR FREE. You heard me. There are so many incentives out there, I strongly recommend checking out everything you're eligible for. If you don't have to take out a loan... DON'T.
