I am a recent graduate of the Core program. I came to Core against my will and planned on staying only as long as my family would force me to. Now, I am sad to be leaving. Core Recovery is a Mental Health facility that has a proven success record with patients. You either go in as PHP (Partial Hospitalization Program, or five days a week) or IOP (Intensive Outpatient) which is 3 to 5 days. You also attend Creative Expression which is like art therapy. Every day is a different subject, you can use whatever medium you are comfortable with, and it is just a great way to spend time with peers painting or drawing. The program also encompasses Family, One-on-One counseling as well as medical. So, think of it as an all-in-one place to recover. They are experts in recovery from drugs and alcohol to any mental health illness. Group session focuses on Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Cognitive Behavior Therapy. You are taught so much from Mindfulness to relaxation techniques, coping skills, emotional regulation, distress tolerance. The list goes on and on. Every day is something different and in group you have all the opportunity to speak, participate and help your peers. My transformation from alcohol and mental illness was 180 degrees. The person who walked through those doors was not the same person that walked out. I feel like I can take on the world, am 100% sober with zero cravings and feel like I have such an understanding of human emotion that I could work in the field. Update- this place had me in an iop for 8 months and never got to start EMDR the whole time. Place had financial problems, AC problems at one location. And the turnover rate from the staff was why I never got to begin the trauma treatments. Never got to have my anxiety properly medicated and was misdiagnosed with bipolar etc. Was on over 8 medications that made me worse, and emded up losing my job because my fmla ran out and i atill needed help Now after me doing extensive research the last decade and after i left Core 12.31.2023, we find that all along the issue was AuDHD and high masking for 38 years of my life with zero support. Im now stuck with an extremely disregulated nervous system and live with a pacemaker and port for meds and am back on leave from work due to burnout and now trying to relearn how to exist in a world not designed for people like us. Tried to get my medical records but cant get ahold of anyone. I drove by the office and there was an eviction notice due to non payment... so save yourself the financial burden and misery of this place and their staff. Theyre mo.ey motivated and thats it. The resour is they provided were so sub par. And the CE, creative expression section was so not helpful until my neurodivergent brain started taking over the art class and started doing actual projects to stimulate healing etc. read more

I went here last year ended up leaving bc they don't have their shit together gives off vibes they were a training facility for therapist, entering the field like a internship place in the span of the three weeks I was there. I saw over three different therapists running group therapy. There was also a problem with my medication. Don't even let me get started with that. I do not recommend going here. I'm now at the Meadows. They take really good care of me. They're consistent within their care as well. The office people suck too. I just came to share this experience because I'm getting the best care at the meadows it's an absolute 360 difference. read more

I do not recommend to use this establishment as an internship or somewhere to get help as long as Natalie and Cherry are running the business. There isn't much consideration or genuine help that comes from the two. Save your mental health and money and please look elsewhere. read more

Do not come here if you are required to have counseling by the Courts. There have been many problems with this company - 1. It took them 2 WEEKS to return a phone call in regards to scheduling an assessment 2. The customer service was horrible. Rude, short, and aggressive in how they spoke. Not sure how the reviews say otherwise. 3. The sheet that the assessment was taken on was scored incorrectly. It was only after we got home and re-read the questions/answers that WE realized it was wrong. 4. They admitted to above mistake, but wouldn't change the result of it. 5. They lied about the minimum amount of hours required by the state - they said it is 52 , which is what they "assigned", but it is only 36 6. Their fees are ridiculously higher than other companies - try 3 THOUSAND MORE Horrible experience for the customer/client, in an already embarrassing and costly mistake. read more

I should have read the many negative reviews and listened. We were very hopeful Core Recovery would be a good fit after meeting Taylor (front desk, excellent!) and Anita (individual therapy). Jennifer from med management made false representations about what my daughter said and communicated via email she was leaving Core and also discharging us. In a follow up call with Dr. Smith we were treated with a lack of respect, we're told that "our daughter must not remember what she said" and provided unclear reasons for protocol not being followed. Appalling and concerning of the low level of care and compassion for patients and their families. read more

I honestly don't understand some of the negative reviews here. Core Recovery was given the 2017 Phoenix Small Business Excellence Award and I find the staff here to be caring and understanding. It seems to me that perhaps a few people who had mandated counseling services were not happy that they were forced to seek help. They chose to vent here. One of them even went to Google Maps and tried to encourage people not to believe the high Google ratings. I do get that the experiences that people have when choosing in the medical profession are not the same as picking a restaurant. Some people don't like being told what they don't want to hear. But I think if you legitimately want help, Core is one of the best choices that you can make. read more

I went for anger management and was placed in a group of addicts. I had no business being in that group and just went with the flow! They were all about having me attend and thank goodness my insurance did cover my sessions. A total fraud and wasted experience. People are super nice, but that is my only positive comment. read more

This program helped my son through a rough time in his life, and I am very grateful. There were definitely some bumps along the way when there was a complete turn over in staff which made it tough to trust the program's integrity. In the end, I think the director was making changes for the good of everyone. The program provides a group with peers, individual therapy, and family therapy. I gave a four star rating because even though there were some unfortunate moments with losing the therapists we really liked, mental health programs for adolescents are hard to come by and overall this program really did help my family and I would send someone in need there. read more

A year ago my daughter was here and there was so much turnover with the staff . she liked a couple of the therapists and then they left or were fired and there was no goodbye. The last therapist that was hired was just really wacko. The art therapy for my daughter ( who is actually pretty good at art ) consisted of coloring a book mark by herself.Then they just simply said she wasn't welcome back -gave us no reason whatsoever. Horrible follow up. The follow up wasn't done, had to call repeatedly for copy of proof of visit. They sent a copy of a receipt with someone else's information in it. Then the letter they provided didn't do anything with DMV. Follow up non existent. Don't go here. read more

I took my teenage daughter for mental health support and ended up with an unnecessary, misrepresented DPS investigation and hours of undue hardship due to the misreporting and fraudulent claims by the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Jennifer Welch. The DPS specialist told me and my family it was clear there was retaliation on the part of Core Recovery. The story is that we went in to check the place out for mental health support and my daughter felt violated from the questioning. So we left. It is my opinion that due to us not signing up with a paid program a DPS report was filed and false claims were submitted. So on top of the trauma my daughter was trying to get support for she and my entire family had to endure yet another traumatizing experience due to the negligence and manipulation of this center. This place should be shut down. In addition, Jennifer appeared to be drugged up on medication and suggested we increase my daughters dose of depression meds when she had only been on them for a week, without assessing whether it would be needed or not. Run, don't walk away from this scary place of a proclaimed recovery center. read more

A horrible experience. Placed us in the wrong type of treatment...but the most expensive. Scheduled appointments without consulting us. Made incorrect and unauthorized charges to our accounts. Despite acknowledging the "mistakes" and agreeing to refund the charges, weeks later no refunds have been received. Would NEVER return to this practice! read more

Let's hope your child doesn't go for IOP... the aftercare has been a MESS. There have been canceled appointments, no callbacks. ill-tempered receptionists, and ultimately very limited POST IOP help. They offered services and then failed to follow through. FIVE weeks later a woman calls and doesn't want to discuss the disaster only how she can fix it now. Too late! There's been no consistency. So the way I see it is that IOP costs approx. $6k. Why bother with the small income earning 'gigs'. I feel this place is unethical and poorly managed. If you can help it...STEER CLEAR! read more

I'm incredibly disappointed in the experience I had just trying to setup an appointment and the professionalism of the administration team. I set an appointment with Core Recovery nearly a week in advance and provided all my information to them. I received a call the morning of my appointment that they needed to confirm my information. After I provided it I was left on hold for an ungodly amount of time without them ever checking back in. They then called me 10 minutes before I needed to leave for my appointment saying they couldn't confirm my appointment would be covered and I would have to pay out of pocket. When I expressed how frustrated I was with them giving me no advanced notice I was told it was my fault for not providing all the information they needed. When I became more upset the person on the phone raised his voice and said he was only a messenger. I found out within 5 minutes the reason I wasn't covered is they scheduled me with a doctor that doesn't accept my coverage rather than the one that did and it would be another week before I could be seen. This has been an aggravating waste of my time. If you're looking for "Recovery" this is the last place I'd recommend, they do more harm than good. read more
