Wow-wee. I've been taking most of my yoga classes at Yoga Six in Wellesley but was looking for something a tad hotter. The C2 class made me look like I had climbed out of a swimming pool afterwards. Not for the faint of heart (literally) but that was my fault - I should've started with the C1 class, which is less heated and slower-paced. PRE-CLASS: It was my first time doing CorePower and, I don't know, I was expecting a little more of an introduction/explanation when I checked in. Maybe I'm spoiled by the OrangeTheory introduction when the instructor walked me through everything and took the time to go over where everything was. Here, all I was told was that we'd be in studio __. I wandered around aimlessly and found the lockers, with signs saying locks were available at the front desk. It would've been nice to know that upfront but c'est la vie. Trying to be more zen in the new year. CLASS: Hot, hot, hot. Inga cranked the heat/humidity all the way up. I was a literal puddle about five minutes in. As a newcomer to CPY (but not to yoga), I got a lot of the cues mixed up; this is a studio-by-studio and teacher-by-teacher distinction but hearing the poses called by their names (instead of "crescent lunge with right foot back") took a while getting used to. Also, the playlist wasn't ... great. Some love ballads mixed with hard rock. Just give me the elevator violin music or nothing at all. The flow for the class was quick and fast-moving, with lots of one-legged variations, and you are encouraged to take breaks but the break itself was so short before the teacher would move on. It got so hot at one point that I seriously contemplated leaving the room. Bring plenty of water and one extra towel. POST-CLASS THOUGHTS: The studio itself felt cramped; the class was only about half-full but I'm not sure a packed sardine-type class would be enjoyable with so much sweat pouring out of every orifice. I did wish that, for savasana (aka, my favorite pose), the temperature could be turned down several notches. Or CPY could offer cold hand towels after (sorry, spoiled by Yoga Six). Also - there is definitely a sweaty funky smell. Like 8/10 on a scale of funkiness. Unescapable and inevitable, for sure. Sorry to keep drawing comparisons but one of the features that I like a lot about Yoga Six is that there, the ventilation seems much better. Parking: Abundant, free parking. This is probably what's going to make me come to the Fresh Pond CPY location over the other ones in Boston or Cambridge. read more

WOW, this studio is huge and beautiful! Definitely the nicest one in MA. It's so spacious, there are 2 floors. The bathrooms are super clean (feels like a hotel bathroom, to be honest), tons of stalls and shower stalls and the drinking water fountain is fast/cool. Only thing is it's not the most public transport friendly unlike other CPY studios, it took me like ~15 ish mins to walk from Alewife station. There IS Parking though. read more

I had a yoga mat stolen at this establishment. Establishment kept my item publicly in lost and found and allowed any person to take item. This was a brand new yoga mat costing over $100. Establishment has a closet where they keep lost items instead of placing my yoga mat there they kept it in the public locker room. Item was stolen I contacted establishment to have resolution. Establishment refuses to assist with any problem resolution including assessing video camera to see who stole my item and/or providing store credit due to it being taken on their premises. Establishment states "they are not liable for stolen items". Have tried numerous times to have resolution instead I am met with dissmissive and rude behavior. awful customer service. for an establishment that markets themselves as luxury they have alot to learn about how to treat customers. Not to mention the classes are over packed with people. You have to fight to get a spot. Clearly they are all about quantity of people and more money. Beyond dissappointing experience! read more

Firstly, this place is nice. Great instructors and it's good for your soul. That's cool. The company and its policies are predatory. Can't just cancel. Need to call. Have pauses in membership you need to pay for. It's gross and companies like this, regardless in how nice their instructors are, should go out of business and the TSG Consumers Partners Company, a private equity group that bought the company from another private equity company, L Catterton, is probably behind policies that favor extracting $$ at all costs over a little humanity. Cannot recommend this place. Take your money somewhere else. read more

Fresh Pond CorePower is a very comfortable and beautiful yoga studio. I have taken some truly insightful classes with a bunch of tremendous teachers here, and I've been with CorePower coast-to-coast for years now. I really like Lauren (one name that stands out) if you have a chance to take her classes. She is the real deal. As others have written, the location is very comfortable in terms of parking and even grabbing something to eat at Whole Foods afterwards (two for one!). The studio is clean from lobby to classroom to locker rooms: the rooms themselves have high enough ceilings that they don't feel claustrophobic (though I've never even seen the upstairs ones). I like the spacious seating area and think that this is a wonderful place to retreat during cold winters when some heated yoga and space from your own stuffy apartment is exactly what you need. The manager, Robbie, recently went above and beyond for me to get a pair of sweatpants I was interested in and I appreciate everyone I've crossed paths with here. Namaste. ALSO: if you've never done yoga before, CorePower is a great "chain" to sign up with. They do have good teacher training so that instructors here are all on the same page, are consistent and knowledgeable about physiology and follow a pretty predictable formula, even if they're not veteran yogis themselves and only started practicing a few years ago. There are classes for Type A people who want to sweat/tone more than think (NOT me!) as well as classes for the hippie meditative types as well (sort of me, if I actually slowed down once in a while to be a true hippie). A good middle-of-the-road approach to yoga that will speak to many different types of (non/)athletes. read more

I fell victim to the direct mail campaign; when I received a flyer offering one free week of unlimited yoga, I stowed it in my glovebox and resolved to take Core Power up on their offer at some point. Enter last Sunday, when I was feeling a bit lazy and not into my workout options: a session at Planet Fitness(yeah right, I suck at going to the gym), some kind of Cross-Fit-like class at the Training Room(those were all in the AM and I'd slept late), or the power class at O2. After confirming on their website that classes did indeed take place nearly every hour all day, I resolved to try Core Power Yoga. Tucked behind the Fresh Pond plaza in Cambridge, the studio space looks nice and new. The storefront looks like a retail shop, peddling Prana gear and Yogitoes towels in the main reception area. Mats and towels are free the first time, but then they cost $2 or $1, respectively. The genius that I am forgot to bring water, but at least I snagged a free towel. It looked like there were something like 3 or 4 studio rooms, in addition to locker rooms and a lounge-type area. I took a 5:30 class(I think all classes are an hour) with an instructor whose name I don't remember. The room was crazily hot. The mirrors were kinda cool for checking out my form. Who knew I looked badass in eagle?! I don't practice hot yoga much, but maybe once a year when I crave dumping a bunch of toxins. I don't want to be judgy about styles of yoga different from what I practice(I am a diehard, five year veteran of O2, if you must know), but I was super confused when ardha chandrasana was a side lean, pada hastasana involved grabbing my heels, and we came into "hot triangle." I will say that I respected this class more than some of the power vinyasa classes at other hot studios where teachers speed though sequences, which feels dangerous to me since there is more potential for injury in such a hot, sweaty environment. This class was slower paced and focused more on a handful of poses that were repeated in sequences. That said, I think the workout(aka loss of water weight) came from the heat, but not really the difficulty of the class. This would have been a slow, disappointing yin yoga class at a studio that wasn't heated. Props to them for generously offering a free week of yoga to build a customer base. The studio is very nice. I'm just not that into hot yoga, and would guess somewhere like Bikram or Baptiste would appeal more to those yogis who are. read more

I've gone to about ten yoga classes at CorePower Yoga, located near Fresh Pond. I love this studio - it's a large facility with beautiful changing rooms, showers, etc. The staff is excellent and everyone is very friendly. I love their standard 1 and 2 classes and also have enjoyed trying Hot Power Fusion and Sculpt. You come out dripping and feel amazing. read more

This is a beautiful yoga studio that feels like a spa. The sitting area, changing, and shower facilities are clean and have a peaceful, spacious vibe that provide a luxurious retreat from your daily routine. The practice studios themselves have high ceilings and skylights that make the space feel airy and unrestricted. I have been attending this studio for a few months and mostly take the C2 class, although I have tried Yoga Sculpt which is also a great workout for when you don't need a flow. The C2 classes follow a specific outline that gives the teachers some room to add their own personal touch to the classes, while still maintaining a predictable experience in terms of the amount of flow and core work. I have been led through so many great classes from the instructors here. (Especially Robbie, whose thoughtful sequences and encouraging queues make him my personal favorite, but also Emily, Maureen, Margaret, and I'm sure many other instructors I haven't tried yet). The best part of the studio is the welcoming atmosphere; being an older woman and not especially flexible or good at yoga, I feel comfortable there. There is such an accepting vibe, that even though I cannot do every move, I don't feel judged for that. read more

Beautiful space. I love the Core Power Fusion class Sunday's at 8:30am. The instructor - Ashley - is great and provides a challenging, yet supportive, flow. For a relatively advanced class, there is little intimidation for those that are new or less advanced in their practice. Bonus: plenty of free parking. You get what you pay for, though...$27 for a drop in is certainly on the high side. You also cannot reserve a spot in class so for popular times, arrive early. I started practicing Yoga at CPY about about 4 months ago after about 6 years of practicing Bikram Yoga. I had tried a few other types of yoga as well but kept going back to Bikram for the heat. After a while with Bikram I realized I was not feeling like it was making me much stronger and I started to resent the way it was practiced after going to several different studios where the instructors were often not welcoming to beginners and made it an unpleasant experience for them. I began practicing new forms of yoga at home. And then, I saw a groupon for CPY. Game changing! The first class I went to I was greeted with a genuine warmth from the instructor, Stephanie. I was immeditely impressed by the large, clean facility (showers are never over crowded, always clean and there is real shampoo/conditioner/body wash!). The class was set to modern music (so different than silent Bikram!) and I loved that it included core excersizes. After going to my second class, a sculpt class with Shira, I knew I was hooked! And going to be really sore the next day... I completed a free week, then did a month of the groupon, and I am now a black tag member. I practice there between 4 and 5 times a week now and I have invited along my family and friends several times to try the free week. They all were very impressed! I am feeling stronger and falling deeper in love with yoga. The music choices by most of the instructors are so fun and inspirational that I have literally had classes that have felt more spirtual to me than church on Easter Sunday (Sorry Mom and Dad!) It is expensive, but to me it is a worthy investment. I feel a sense of community when I visit the studio and I am continued to be impressed by the instructors. Be prepared to hear a sales pitch at the end of class (announcements). It's part of life and I don't blame them for running a business. If you get a chance to do the free week, I recomend going to classes with Amberlee, Stefanie, Maureen, Catie and Kevin. Although, I have confidence all of the isntructors will impress and there is a class for everyone at CPY. Can't wait to see where they expand to next. read more

It has everything: class variety, a skilled teaching staff, lovely studios and inviting hang out spaces, friendly people, parking, clean locker rooms and showers, and a diverse array of students. I love the hot power fusion classes in the AM, especially with Judy B and Jeannie "J-SizZle" Ch. enjoy a class and then see all the same people afterwards at the other shops doing their errands. read more

I'm new to Core Power as a company, but my experience with this location has got me hooked. The teachers are wonderful - excited about their practice, excited to share that excitement, and are simply happy to be there! The facility is brand new and is immaculate - it always feels like I'm at a spa or high end gym when I'm there. Their free week promotion leaves no good reason not to check it out. Here are a few points that took me a bit to understand but are useful to know: Their 'C1' classes are their beginning classes. This does not mean they spend much time explaining the poses, but they are abundantly patient as you try to sort out what you should be doing. The real plus in C1 classes is that each one follows the identical progression of postures allowing you to become familiar with the routine. The 'C2' classes use the same progression as the C1 classes but the teachers build on it in their own way. For example, one teacher will take the opportunity to breath deep into each pose while focusing on alignment, while another will use the series as the entry point into a bunch of heart-expansion poses. Thus, if the routine of the C1's is too boring, these provide a rich alternative that shifts by teacher and with the focus of the teacher each week. 'Sculpt' classes again build on the C1 routine but bring in a bunch of elements of an aerobic routine that up you wouldn't expect to be doing in a yoga studio (jumping jacks?). The effect is awesome. These are easily my favorite classes. They offer the opportunity to focus your mind into a yoga routine, then work you silly as if it were a boot camp class, and finally close with shavasana. It's like a workout cocktail that packs a punch and leaves you feeling amazing. Again, the class differs dramatically by teacher, so try a few! The fact that all classes follow the same C1 series lends a peculiar level of homogeneity over the classes which is compounded by the fact that most (all?) of the teachers use the same phrases at various points in the class. This is most obvious at the outset and at closing and at a number of places where the wrong names are used for certain movements (chatarunga for vinyasa). However, this probably because most teachers participate in the same teacher training program. This doesn't detract really, instead, I imagine that it would lend a level of comfortable familiarity when visiting another Core Power location (like Starbucks). A little bit about me if that provides a frame of reference: I've been practicing yoga for about ten years, mostly under a single teacher. I remotely moved to the Boston area and needed a studio that offers evening classes. I have been going to Core Power three or more times a week since they opened five weeks ago. read more

Let me preface by saying I have been practicing yoga off and on for the past 3.5 years. I stopped for a while because I had wrist surgery, but was happy to get back into it. I mainly like hot yoga because I really feel like sweating during a workout makes me reap all the benefits. So, CorePower is great. I have tried many facilities from Nashville, Indiana, Wisconsin and DC. But truly CorePower sounds out so much to me. The fact that there are three different rooms, all clean with ample space is awesome! Because of this, multiple classes can go on at once so you're not having to wait for a specific time for one. I am wanting to start yoga teacher training and I think I've found my studio! Yoga Sculpt here is very upbeat and challenging. You should definitely ease into it by either taking a C1 or C2 class beforehand (something I unfortunately did not do). I took a Hot Power Fusion class with Kate and she was so kinda and even told me about their groupon offer! I also enjoyed Nike Ti for the unheated C1 class Sundays/Mondays at 1:30. She was the first yoga teacher I've had that really took the time to correct some mistakes and didn't make it seem like a big deal if you took alterations to poses. I guess I've been doing my chaturanga wrong all these years and I feel so much better for it! I can't wait to build a community here and really deepen my practice and meditation. I would highly suggest CorePower to anyone looking to try something new. read more

As a new business, this place is really trying to rock your socks off--and it totally works! I've been to two yoga sculpt classes over the weekend and have absolutely loved them! I leave feeling completely reinvigorated (and drenched in sweat), ready for the day ahead! The facility is absolutely gorgeous with one of the most amazing changing/shower facilities I've seen at any gym. Big props to this place for making me feel very welcome and sincerely appreciating my business. They also have some great deals for new students. I'm still using my free WEEK of yoga...(FREE WEEK!!!) and plan to purchase either a package or the groupon they currently have available when this is up. I have been practicing at CPY studios all over the U.S. since 2006. Was so happy to see one opening in MA. One of the things I love most about CPY is the consistency...you really know what to expect when you go to a class. The Cambridge studio is a very clean facility with all the amenities you'd ever desire (typical for CPY nationwide). However they are NEW and are still working out some kinks...in particular: -Some of the instructors have mastered the CPY way of teaching (with respect to music and the correct amount of heat and humidity) but Others have not... -There's a fair amount of chatter in the room before/after class (this is not the CPY way) I expect these issues to improve with time... am hoping so at least! :-) read more

I'm a huge fan of CP Yoga; I used to go to the studio back home in CA. I like the one in CA a bit better (studios were larger and a bit more modern with mirrors on 3 walls instead of 2), but this one is pretty spacious (2 floors) and nice as well. The classes (I took 2 during my free week) were good - CP2 gave a good sweat, as usual. The difficulty of the class definitely depends on the instructor; both were good, but the first class was much less intense than the second one I took. The only complaint I had was that I came for the 9am Sunday morning CP2 class only to find that it was cancelled without notice; I didn't get an email or see anything on their site prior either. Either way, I still recommend if you live or work near the Alewife area! It's a very short walk from the Alewife station and Cambridge Park Drive. read more

Corepower is my favorite class on the market right now. I had previously only visited Medford's studio, but Fresh Pond now takes the cake. The studio is beautiful and I love the classes. This is a true workout and I challenge anyone hesitant to try yoga because it "isn't enough of a workout" to try CorePower. I love leaving class drenched in sweat and my mind cleansed. read more

I am torn between a 3 and a 4 so perhaps I will come back... Went to my first class here tonight with my husband. We've just started going to Baptiste together for the last few weeks and I've been going to Baptiste (Cambridge) irregularly for the last two years plus (and generally am a fan). Generally what I dislike ... After coming home I read a bit about the company. The CEO says he wants to make the Corepower Yoga "the brand" -- the Starbucks of yoga. It definitely has that feel. You walk into what feels like a yoga gear store - somewhere between a west elm and a swanky carpeted hotel lobby - except a little Ikea-ish with all the faux wood. When we walked out we compared it to a McDonalds. The yoga gear is all the priciest stuff. I wanted all the things. Prices are about what you'd pay at Baptiste (a little more incentive to sign up for a membership monetarily speaking after the first free week). Generally what I like... Parking is plentiful and easy. The locker room is smaller, newer and nicer version of the Healthworks in Porter -- all the same amenities (large showers, shampoo/etc, changing area, lockers, mirror area). Something like you'd expect at a nice spa. No sauna, steam room or whirlpool (like Healthworks). I liked the teacher and her style of encouragement (part of the "brand") a lot and the class and the flow. It's an hour so it was a hard class without leaving me completely unable to move (well I guess that remains to be seen). I wasn't sure I liked the idea of music throughout, I guess that might change from class to class, but I didn't mind it. read more

This place is pretty awesome! I came here for a January 1 evening class and was amazed at how friendly and nice the people were. The good: +kind, competent, nice check in people (gave me a free towel, too, cause I forgot mine with no charge!) +gorgeous, enormous space (after practicing in tiny tiny Boston places this is awesome!!) +VERY energetic, friendly, bubbly teacher +VERY athletic work out for the Core Power SCULPT class (one older lady even left the class after 20 minutes because she was struggling so badly) +pricing = didn't notice since I went for my class free. +CLEAN SPACE, HOT HOT HOT HOT = AMAZING compared to Baptiste which hardly heats their studio anymore. The bad: -little from what I can tell except that Sculpt + Yoga is a weird concept: the teacher was somewhat militant in the way she described child's pose and some other things. Overall though: she was great, it's just a different concept from what I'm used to. Loved it, and for sure will be back. read more

I can't believe there have only been SIX reviews on this place! They have only been open since the summer, but still...they need love! This is the most beautiful yoga studio/complex I have ever been in. And I knoooowwww for all you yogis out there that it's not about that, but damn. It's impressive. You walk through a sea of Lululumon and Prana for sale to get to the front desk. Always very welcoming and friendly staff. There is an area with couches, fire, and Buddahs to hang out in before you get to the locker room, which has all the amenities you need if you are getting ready to go to work/out after. There are, I think, 4 different yoga studios offering an array of different yoga including candlelight yoga, and yoga with weights (my fav), and many different levels offered. Definitely check it out if you are in the area!! read more

It is already hard for some people to pay for specialty classes and upping the prices doesn't make that any easier. As far as the studio goes it is immaculate!!! This is a good place to go if you're looking to sweat and quickly run through your basic yoga poses, while paying $20 to do so. If you're looking to deepen your practice by learning arm balances other than crow (I seriously think that that's the only one the instructors know), or inversions, stay away from corepower. Yes, the facility is beautiful and they have tons of classes on the schedule so that's a pro. Con, I took a class there on Friday, enjoyed it fine so went back on Sunday, and guess what? It was the same exact class! I was so disappointed. So, this is a great place for people who can afford $20 hour-long yoga classes who like to attend classes so that they can say they "do" yoga. If you're devoted to the practice and always wanting to improve and learn new things, stick to the smaller studios read more

I have been going to Core Power Yoga in Alewife for a couple of years now and can't say enough positive things about it. The instructors are great. Each is different and also present variations on their personal style, so it is never the same and never boring. They are also quite supportive and work with you to achieve good form. The management is incredibly friendly and helpful and the facility is very clean. I recommend Core Power and especially this location to all my friends. I also like that I can find other Core Power locations while I am traveling or in other parts of Boston/Cambridge. I have participated in classes in pretty much every location in the Boston area and have never had a bad class. I have also attended classes in California while on business and liked that it was just like being home. read more

Can't beat the convenience and the facility itself. It's really clean (new), tasteful, roomy, etc. They have 4 studios, opening the way for having a lot of different options at any given time. This is great because if I miss THE class with other studios, that's it for my evening... Price is up there, but considering the amenities, that's understandable. Given these pluses, I really WANT to love this place. BUT, so far the classes themselves have been a bit of a disappointment. - They are all only 60 minutes. Other studios I go to will have a mix of quickies (60 minutes), 75-minute, and 90-minute classes at different times. I generally prefer longer classes to get a good balance of warm up, flow, and wind-down. 60 minutes is too short unless it's early morning or lunch time during a work day. - The music can be way too loud to the point of being really annoying. They really ought to gauge the crowd and adapt to the mood -- energetic music may work perfectly in the middle of the day but isn't so appropriate after a long day at work when we just want to unwind... In one class, the instructor had to shout over the music to provide direction, to the point where one student had to ask for the volume to be brought down a notch. Ouch... - The style seems more "gym class" than yoga? At least that was the way it felt in the class that uses weights. Another class was interesting but somewhat too slow (Bikram inspired?) I've done various styles but tend to prefer Ashtanga, Power Yoga, or flow classes. I haven't yet found a CorePower class to my exact liking here after four sessions. I'm really hoping it's just my poor luck and that trying different classes will eventually get me one that feels right for me. All in all, I will keep trying and hoping they bring the flavor I'm looking for, but it doesn't feel like I found my home at CorePower. Right now, I'm still trying to determine whether I'd rather skip yoga altogether, or go to CorePower as backup. read more

This place (and company) is truly amazing. Clearly they make and work with a lot of money, but the yoga is legit. The facilities are beautiful, prices are reasonable, and the teachers definitely above average at the least. Danielle's level 2 class on Friday mornings is truly a gift - her flows are so natural, breathing cues perfectly paced, hands on assists AHmazing. I have also taken Danielle's Sculpt class and could not get over how awesome she was. So motivational and fun and REAL! I practice yoga all over the place and have been for many years, I even completed teacher training in Thailand, and while CPY is a "branded" yoga, the classes and teachers are legitimate. If you love sweating and appreciate a pretty facility and smaller class sizes, hit up CPY! read more

I just wrapped up my first week of FREE yoga and I am HOOKED!!!! Loved all of the classes, especially Sculpt and C2 for an amazing yet challenging workout. Jess, Leah, Fallon were some of the instructors who really stood out. I have been looking to get back into working out (doing something aside from running) and this is the perfect fit. I took yoga 1 with Alice and was expecting a very basic class because it is their 'beginner' version. I was very happily surprised that the class was challenging. Alice was a great instructor explaining everything thoroughly and giving multiple poses to choose during the practice. The class was not over crowded at all so there was plenty of space and I did not feel like I was on top of my neighbor. Their locker room area was very clean and they have towels you can rent for a dollar if you forget one. This corepower location also has a parking lot which is amazing! I am an occasional yogi and when my friend gave me a 2 free weeks coupon I decided to check out CorePower. The location was 5 minutes from my work, so it was perfect for me to try the early morning and evening classes. When I went in to sign up everyone was really friendly and welcoming. The facility is beautiful, clean and feels like a high end sports club. One thing I did like was I never had to sign up for classes before hand. I was able to come and go whenever I wanted without having to worry about cancellation fees, etc. The only downside was the price. $200 for one month unlimited seemed high compared to other studios in the area. read more

Really great variety of classes and teachers. The studios and locker rooms are beautiful, and the lounge area is a fabulous touch. Their smart phone app makes things super easy. My one suggestion is that teachers do more adjusting. I know that's not for everyone but they're really great about asking for permission at the beginning of class. I say adjust away! read more

Another great core power location! Very spacious. Would like to see them turn the heat up more, but that is just my preference.

I have been going to the new Core Power Yoga studio for the past month. I have really enjoyed not only the beautiful facility they built but the warm smiling faces as I enter. I feel that the class times are conducive to my schedule and lucky that it has opened in my neighborhood. The bathroom seems like a luxury spa. They even offer mouthwash! I feel like they really cater to yogi's of any ability level. My friend who has never tried yoga really enjoyed her experience at Core Power Yoga in Fresh Pond as well. They make yoga accessible to all levels. Great job so far! read more
