I ended up using DoorDash because I couldn't order from the mobile website. I then downloaded the Toast app per the link on the website to place my order. I was informed that I should not have used the Toast app - after I used the Toast app. Apparently it's only for the locations in Pennsylvania? Nice to learn about this after three attempts to pay put $120 worth of holds on my bank account. The staff were friendly on the phone, just not equipped to change the situation. Whoever owns this franchise needs to review their e-commerce process. When I arrived 15 minutes later I had to wait for the chicken to be fried - understandable. This is the norm for most soul food restaurants, but I didn't think I'd be waiting another 15 minutes. I had to order a side of cornbread from the kiosk because it is not an option on DoorDash. The ribs and Mac and cheese were dry, the chicken was not cooked through and the cornbread was soggy from sitting in the steamer. I'm upset I went out of my way to make this trip. This review is for the Broad street location. I really really wanted to give this business my business. I ordered here four times in a row from UberEats. The first three times in a row, I ordered a side of shrimp and it wasn't in the bag. The fourth time, the fried chicken meal and sides were completely missing from the bag. This place lacks quality control. I can see if we called the order in over the phone, but the order is written down. Who is checking the bag? It's simply frustrating. Normally I come here and pick up my food and go home but today my family and I decided to all get together and dine in. The food was amazing but the real star of this meal was Tiffany! Her service was absolutely incredible and anything we needed, she was on it. If I had money I'd hire her to work all my private events that's how great she was. Super friendly with the kids too. Went here with my family for the first time. The food was well-seasoned and cooked nicely. Cornbread was really tasty (well, ofc that's the name of the restaurant)! Fried chicken and fried cat fish were my favorites. And, the drinks: lemonade, uptown, and southern twang were so refreshing. I really liked their baked mac and cheese! Peach cobbler was sweet and warm, the crust was crispy! The supply area was well-prepared (utensils, bags, napkins, condiments). The second floor dining was spacious and felt like I was in someone's home, loved it! Also, the staff members were very patient in taking our order and extremely helpful and nice during our time of dining. They always checked up on us when were in the second floor. Thank you so much! I'm new to NJ and was in the mood for the Sunday soul food. I'd previously added Cornbread to my must try list and I must say I wasn't disappointed. My daughter and I ordered two to go platters of fried chicken with sides and peach cobbler for desert. The fried chicken was great, flavorful and moist although a little greasy. The yams and mac and cheese were on point. The cornbread was also tasty, not dry or too sweet. They forgot to pack my daughter's yellow rice which we didn't realize until we got home, 25 minutes away which she wasn't happy about. I'm too full to try the peach cobbler but will definitely be back next time the mood hits me. read more

Cornbread was delicious! I am really glad we stopped in!! The staff was very hospitable and did everything to ensure our dine in experience was great. The food was scrumptious! We had a side sampler (collard greens, black eye peas and sweet potatoes), catfish dinner with collard greens and sweet potatoes and a ribs dinner with Mac and cheese. The Newark location is my location and I love, love, love the fried fish. The catfish in particular is my favorite. So light and well seasoned. Finger-lickin' good. I like their potato salad as well, it's good, not spectacular, but pairs well with the fish. The yams are good as well. I didn't really like the macaroni and cheese, it didn't have enough of that cheesiness for me. My husband had the catfish and grits and he loved it! The portion sizes are very nice as well. Always passed here on the commute to work and home. Glad I finally went there. It was confusing at first because I didn't know you could sit anywhere after putting in the order at the kiosk. Food had a great presentation and tasted good. I had the fried chicken with cabbage and yellow rice with sweet tea. My fiance had the whitening with collard greens and cabbage with sweet tang. Everything had a great presentation and tasted well. Only confusion was when the guy that was checking on us tried to charge us for a refill and when we had to get our own containers the woman at the counter said there was no charge for it. Up to today I had only been ordering for delivery. Today I picked up. The space is cool! There is on site parking. The staff is nice, friendly, and accommodating. Of course, this all means nothing if the food is not good. As I drove home, top down and food in the back seat my stomach growled with every waft of fried catfish. When I finally got home that tease was rewarded! Never a disappointment except the assumption that I need the plastic utensils, I don't. I will be specific about that next time. I purchased a large whiting dinner and asked was it real whiting was told yes. However, when I got home, and looked in container, it was that funny looking whiting that most restaurants are selling which is smelly and fishy and has a dirty look. Now the seasoning of the fish was excellent.... However, that so called fish isn't whiting. Roy's Fish fry south orange Ave, Newark is about the only place so far that sells real whiting. The turkey wings weren't the best neither.... Potatoe Salad was good and candied yams too. The owner needs to do better because she is pricy which isn't an issue, if the food is good. I had the opportunity to try Cornbread dine in on Mother's Day. The process to use the kiosk to place order and then be seated is a little frustrating. You have a long line of customers ordering take out and this is the same line you wait in for the dine in. So, I told the General manager Xavier I would make sure that I would leave a good comment since he was able to turn a horrible situation into a pleasant one. I will not go into details however you should at least try this place and gather your own opinion. I still the Southern Twang drink!!!! PS. Gucci the server did an excellent job and was tipped well! This restaurant has become one of my favorites in the area. So when I'm in town or anywhere near town I tried to stop by. The Arnold Palmer's and cornbread are very tasty. I really like the way you order your food at the kiosk and then pick it up at the opposite end of the line. The set up of the restaurant is very nice where there is seating available downstairs and upstairs. I haven't been to the restaurant during crowded times but during the times that I have been there the service has been timely. The food that I've had has also been good. read more
