Let me start by saying, the was great. We walked in to the restaurant and there was a sign that said "Please wait to be seated", there was a man sitting in the area already so we stood by the door. The host walks up to the podium and looks at us, and says "well do you want to be seated. Why are you standing by the door?" Seriously the potato salad is the best I've ever had from a restaurant. Love the catfish! The seasoning for fried foods isn't very flavorful but with some hot sauce it works. I highly recommend both. Mac and cheese is kind of mushy. I don't like it. String beans are perfectly crisp tho. The collard greens are delicious but sometimes they can be a bit salty. We were in town for business and hubby found this place. Man it was a great pick. I ordered the fish with rice and greens and cabbage mix (I can't remember the name) The fish was flavored very well and the sides were on point. Hubby got chicken and waffles. I'm not exaggerating that was some really really good chicken. Stay away from this soul food spot, the owners, the bald guy and Mark do not care about customer complaints and concerns. They gave me broken-up fried chicken wings with missing legs attached to the wings, resulting in them cheating me out of my money. I mentioned the concern and they said, "We just cook the chicken". Obviously you cook the food but you guys don't have the decency to discard sick/poor looking food and replace it with fresh, full-sized wings? On multiple occasions, their chicken had red/darkish meat like the chicken they receive is sickly. You can't really expect much from a soul food place that charges for their cornbread, lol. While the food is good, they recently added a 20% tip charge to ALL ORDERS, regardless of the bill. I don't mind tipping but I sure as hell will not allow anyone to force me to pay the 20%. The service isn't that good. I'll return when they stop robbing their customers. read more

Customer service was good, I was the only one in the restaurant so we had some small talk that waived the awkwardness but also not too much for me to eat. Food was 3/5. Wings were pretty big but fried to perfection however didn't taste like much but grease. Waffles were good, a little heavy on the butter but good waffles. The mac was decent, it didn't taste fresh and was falling apart like it was the end of the batch lol. I was the first and only patron there so that may have been the situation but I feel like from reviews and pics the place has potential. My friend and I was looking for a good soulfood joint. We decided on the Soulfood Factory. We live in Monmouth County and it took about 45 minutes to get there but it was well worth it. A starch Cowboys fan that I am, the host decided that he was gonna get me by calling me out telling me "Ya gotta leave that cap in the car!" I had on the Cowboys lid. I thought that he was serious! I started towards the door to put my cap in my car! He and my friend were laughing because he was just kidding. He then said "This is Giants Country'!" Pointing to a Giants poster on the wall. As soon as we got in we were pretty much seated and the spot really reminds me of Soulfood places down in the south where it's really about the food and you feel like you're in your family members kitchen. We pretty much all had the three piece dark meat fried chicken But we all so tried a bunch of the sides like the collard greens, candied yams, mac & cheese and cornbread. Special shadow to mark for making our dinner very personable. Highly recommend this place if you're trying to have some authentic soul food and also recommend getting an uptown (which is half lemonade half tea) with your meal. My friend and I went here for late lunch/early dinner on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. There was one server but he handled it well I thought. The food is okay. I wasn't sure if the fish was fresh or frozen because whiting that's frozen is usually a filet cut up the middle into two which is what I got. I was expecting friend shrimp fried in a similar batter of the fish which it wasn't. The macaroni and cheese wasn't good. I visited the restaurant for the first time today. I had the 2 piece fried chicken lunch special with a side of mac & cheese, collard greens and corn bread. The portions were generous in my opinion. John the owner was gracious and chatted with my husband and I while I waited for my chicken which is prepared fresh and fried only when ordered. No chicken waiting under heat lamps! Love that. Everything was delicious! The chicken was still hot when I got home with my food. It was fried and seasoned to perfection. The Mac and cheese was creamy, cheesy goodness...the collards were seasoned perfectly and delicious and the cornbread was soft, fresh, sweet and delicious. If mac & cheese is on any menu... Finally made it to The Soul Factory in Union the other night and all i can say is WOW! Probably some of the best food I have had in a long time. It's hard to single out anything but I'll start with the macaroni and cheese. Definitely not my mother's mac a cheese (sorry Mom). It was flavorful, very well-seasoned and the perfect consistency. I had the fried shrimp dinner and it to was perfectly seasoned, cooked and the portion was more than enough. The corn bread needs no introduction; just try it!
