I'm a native New Yorker so I've certainly had my taste of CB sandwiches in the past. If I had not, I'm sure I'd give them 5 stars and an over the top 'rave' review. My first visit, I ordered their namesake, a Corned Beef on Rye. I added yellow mustard, pickle and a Slice of Swiss Cheese. Pro: Take a look at the photo I've attached. These guys know how to stack up a sandwich. The meat is lean with excellent flavor, the mustard is slathered on and the bread is a nice chewy rye. The pickle placed on the side is crunchy with excellent flavor and the house made chips, well, I'll get an additional order on my next visit as the 'right sized' portion was not enough. They place each order in a 'cute' cardboard box and tie it up with a length of string earning an A+ for presentation as well as a great stacking opportunity for larger (office) orders. Con: It's a cold sandwich which would be much much more satisfying if it had some warmth and a bit more moisture to it. That's it... The location, under the tracks on Lake Street, and steps away from Restaurant Row on Randolph Street, provides little parking (though there is a loading zone, use your flashers). The business is small, standing room to eat and a small outside for better weather (though, again, under the tracks). $$$: Sandwiches with Corned Beef run $11 or $12 and they are cash only. Aside from Corned Beef and Pastrami sandwiches, they also offer a Chicago Hot Dog, Italian Beef or Turkey option. Somehow, I doubt seriously I'll ever be able to review any of them as the CB options will keep me busy. If your office treats you right this is a really good 'take out' option for all who are not, you know, vegetarian. I've heard they will take a credit card for pre pay over the phone but check your wallet, stop by an ATM, before going otherwise, again, cash only in store. Last week I finally made it to The Corned Beef Factory (TCBF) @ 1009 W Lake Street. This has been bookmarked for awhile. The location isn't the easiest to access as there is very little street parking as it's just west of the loop area, however I did get lucky and there are 2 spots directly in front of the restaurant designated for pick ups and someone was leaving as I pulled up. TCBF is mainly a pick up with some limited seating outside. I called in my order for pick up. I ordered a Tom & Jerry which is a combination corned beef/pastrami w/spicy mustard. I added sauerkraut & cheese on rye bread for $11 which I got for free courtesy of a coupon. The sandwich was very good w/generous portions of corned beef & pastrami. The sandwich was succulent and very good, by a tad too salty for my tastes. This also come with pickles and chips. The people that I assumed were the owners were super nice and accommodating. Still my favorite corned beef shop! This time I got the Tom and Jerry Combo which has warm corned beef, pastrami, swiss and spicy mustard on rye. I think this one is my favorite. A whole sandwich is definitely too much for me to eat in one sitting, so I eat half and take home the other half. The chips are still amazing and the puffs are a great ending to the meal. The honey puffs are fried light dough balls with a soft and pillowy, almost gooey inside and doused in a thin honey sauce with cinnamon. I love this place. Cash only. read more

I was a little depressed today, thought, I knew what would cheer me up, a great pastrami sandwich- headed towards the Corned Beef Factory on the near west side. I was thinking, on the way there, sure hope they are sill in business, it's been a while since I was over that way. To my surprise as I arrived- they moved, but just across the street. The new spot was better, it was small, but it had seating, which the previous spot did not. Food was as great as I remembered it. Also- the counter person couldn't have been nicer and more efficient. Service was fast, despite a couple people ahead of me. Sandwich was served with some salty non-de script potato chips and 1 pickle spear...I would have like two pickles- sandwich was a healthy portion of pastrami which was tasty and perfect. The only downer here is the parking situation- it's tough to park anywhere around there- spots come and go, so good luck with that. read more

Well, we really didn't mind waiting because they rendered great customer service to each and every patron who walked in. An order of corned beef sandwich combo came with homemade chips, a pickle, and a brown paper box secured with the boy-scout knot. This carryout box was very Eco-friendly. This literally was a Sammie present; it was spill-free, fashionable-looking, and recyclable. For $22 and some change, Daddy J. and I had a plenty to eat, with fountain pops to keep us hydrated. Once again me and my wife we're out about looking for something good to eat. We've been both wanting a Rueben. And BAM! We come across The Cornedbeef Factory. The service was absolutely great ! We ordered The Tom & Jerry ( Cornbeef and Pastrami) & A Rueben of course. Now the Tom & Jerry is a new found go to sandwich!! I loved it. Loads of meat and just the right amount of yellow mustard! Perfect!!! The Rueben however was decent. I think instead of using a Panini grill they should use a flat grill. JMO. Both sandwiches came with freshly made potato chips cooked in peanut oil. And Kosher Dill pickle spears. They were really good! I forgot to ask if they were homemade. We asked for extra pickle. They forgot to add it to our order. But they gave us 3 extra when we told them. Went here for lunch recently and it did not disappoint. They've got a few different sandwiches that you can choose from. I came in the door planning on getting corned beef, but when I saw pastrami on the menu I had to audible. I went with their Tom and Jerry combo of both, add cheese and kraut for an on the fly Rueben. My buddy got a beef, which he raved about. The sandwiches are served with chips and a solid pickle slice. They wrap up the sandwiches to go in little boxes with twine like a birthday present. My combo was really good, though I must have miscommunicated and it was cold. Not a big deal. I loved it and smothered it with some of the killer Drier's mustard I had in my fridge. Pro tip-scrap the dressing and go with a spicy mustard on a Rueben. The pastrami was the star of the show, peppery and garlicky. I'll surely get that on my next visit. The attendant at the counter was very friendly and told us the specials for the day. I ordered 1 Tom and Jerry, along with a pastrami sandwich. Both were served with a pickle and homemade kettle chips. I was surprised there was no macaroni or potato salad offered with the meal. The order came up quickly, which was great. It was raining and I was starving. I took the first bite and knew this was not the pastrami sandwich I had been dreaming of. The bread was dry and was not toasted. I could barely taste any spicy mustard. I doubt there was a smear. The cheese was not melted. The only positive was the serving size. The quality of the meat was plentiful and flavourful. My good friend has been raving about this place for a little while now so we decided to hop on the Green Line from State & Lake to Morgan (right off of the stop actually) to see whats up here. First thing I noticed was that it is cash only and luckily one of my buds had cash as I would have been assed out. I chose the Reuben over the pastrami sandwich (close choice) and it was very good...there is a huge meat distribution going o here. They do everything well and best homemade potato chip I'm aware of. We've been eating here for years now but I've never written a review. Most recently we had the turkey sandwich and the Italian beef. Sandwiches are very large, meats are high quality and tasty. I was pleased to see it seems they've scaled the Italian beef back just a bit - it's fantastic but used to be a bit unmanageable and I tended to opt for knife and fork. Yesterday it was perfectly sized and balanced. I wouldn't have minded an offer of a small side of jus. The key here is the homemade chips. They are the perfect thickness and cooked and seasoned well. It's a simple place, which makes for a simple review. Probably my favorite deli in Chicago, there are a lot of greats but in the same way Small Cheval is the best burger and they stick with the basics, Corned Beef Factory executes similarly with their menu. read more

Best Reuben and customer service in Chicagoland! We held a Reuben taste test competition and the corned beef factory won unanimously! It had the best quality and quantity corned beef. The bread was not too hard and not too soft with a delicious flavor. The Reuben didn't even require additional thousand island dressing dipping sauce. UPDATE: They've moved locations to (literally) across the street. You can't miss it, it has red "wooden" doors to match the old location and make you feel at home. The sandwiches are still outstanding and it still remains THE place to get a pastrami sandwich close to the Loop. Full discloser, I thought my rye bread tasted a day or two beyond it's prime but I'm willing to overlook it is still very soon after re-opening and they may just be working some kinks out. That, and they got rid of the (what I called) "hipster" pop brand(s) in favor of Pepsi products. That was a bit of a let down. My gut suspects they might now be under new management but I have no way to prove it. Had lunch here for the first time today, so went with the Corned Beef Sandwich, naturally. I swapped out the rye bread for French bread, and then went with spicy mustard and Swiss cheese. It was one of the better sandwiches I've had in a long time, and maybe my favorite home made potato chips I've ever had. It's small place but there's a still a decent amount of seating. They put the sandwiches into boxes and tie them with string, which seems to be their calling card of sorts. I'll definitely be back soon to try a few more of the sandwiches. read more

OMG, I stopped by here for lunch as a co-worker and I were looking for food in the West Loop. It was between this place and Shake Shake. And in the wise words of George Takei (HIMYM) "You (we) chose wisely." We stopped in and the place was very warm due to cooking the corned beef/pastrami and it smelled amazing! But my corned beef was definitely warm. The place is super small and doesn't have any indoor seating. Just a standing ledge to eat. But there is an outside table, which we sat at since it was 40 degrees in Chicago in December. Talk about a heatwave! Prices were $10-12 a sandwich and came with chips so very cheap for the West Loop. Overall, this place is a great quick lunch spot. 5 out of 5 for food and service. My frequent experience has been that restaurants that only make a couple of things generally do them well, because they can focus on those few menu items. This principle definitely applies at CBF. Corned beef, turkey, pastrami, Italian beef, and hot dogs. Nothing else is really needed. My co-worker and I got our sandwiches less than two minutes after ordering. We split a corned beef sandwich and a pastrami sandwich. Each sandwich includes Swiss cheese, mustard, a pickle, and homemade chips. For 11 bucks each, that's a fair value in the city. The meat is superior quality, served warm and moist. The pastrami, in particular, was seasoned heavily and full of flavor. Also, the rye bread held up well. Plenty of caraway seeds, and a soft interior. One thing I was dreading was the lack of Dr. Brown's soda. It's just something you have to have with a corned beef or pastrami sandwich. But they had Tractor soda company on fountain; yeah, was Pepsi there, but who cares. CBF is the only spot in Chicago you can get this soda and they featured cucumber flavor, root beer, and Meyer lemonade. But I had the cherry cream, and I have to say, I may have found a new favorite soda. this drink combines the sweetness of a Cherry Coke with the refreshing feeling of a classic cream soda. It's made with nutmeg and even licorice. Nowadays, I drink maybe one soda a week, but this was so good, that I went back to the fountain for a second cup. Two reasons for removing one star. One is the mustard selection. Regular yellow mustard is fine. But the second option is Grey Poupon. Any self-respecting deli veteran knows that Dijon has no business on corned beef or pastrami. It has got to be a spicy brown mustard, preferably Gulden's. And two, one pickle spear just isn't enough! Those pickle spears are crunchy and flavorful, I would gladly pay a dollar for an extra pickle if needed. Although it's 20 minute walk from my office, I will definitely be back for more. read more
