Tried the corned beef reuben today. It was good, but it's a panini so I feel like they should say that. Normally I think of a reuben as more substantial, but this was still solid. The people I was with tried the Shrimp & Crab roll (a bit messy, but I was told it was good) and the Cubano (also panini style, review was good not great). Overall a great option in Riverside with quick service and an informal vibe for lunch. read more

Really liked this cute sandwich shop... freshly made sandwiches served nicely on a wooden board. I was here for a quick business lunch but will be backs soon. Have you ever had an experience at a business and was so blown away, that you could not wait to write a review?! Well that's my story. Sawmilly is in a class ALL by itself, especially for a sandwich lover. During one of our explore a neighborhood adventures, we decided to have a sandwich at Sawmilly. We read the menu that is taped to the window just outside of the front door and decided to dine there even though it did not list gluten-free bread as a bread option. Seeing this, the plan was to order one of them without bread.. To our surprise. GF bread was offered and make a Cuban sandwich on GF bread! So 2 we're ordered. One as advertised and the other on GF bread. Both Cubans (one with no changes and one on GF) were made to order and the roast pork was melt in your mouth greatness. The homemade chips were also some of the best I've tasted, though chips are not a favorite food item of mine. I left lunch excited that (1) I stumbled across it, (2) tried it and looking forward to trying other sandwiches the next time. There is something for every palate at Sawmilly. The mere thought of the chips, French onion dip, zucchini pickles and Cuban sandwich are enticing me to return for another visit in the coming days. read more

So disappointed with this place. We ordered sandwiches about a month ago and the order was messed up. Ok. Everyone has a bad day now and then. Fast forward to today. We said we will give this place another try. Mistake. Sandwiches were made with very little meat. The dip for the roast beef sandwich was so extremely salty that we ended up throwing it away. This is a cute little sandwich shop. It's creative as the paper towel holders are made of a long screw, and the plates are on boards. When you're done, you hang up the board which is a neat idea. The garbage shoots were neat as they were long tubes that probably enter Straight down into the dumpster. The red chairs were modern looking, and comic type pictures on the wall. This place was thought out well in terms of its style! The place was clean. I was greeted when I came in, and the order taker was friendly. They tell you what the different sandwiches are as you pickup. They also have neat drinks available. All of our sandwiches were absolutely delicious!!!! My only tip is that it's not a "twin friendly" restaurant (haha). There was only one baby high chair for the place. I would suggest two! We'll be back! read more

I was intrigued with their episode last night on Chicago's Best TV and made the trip to try the featured sandwich. Pork Roast Dip was as delicious as it looked. Love to support this type business, which makes everything in house. I look forward to exploring more of their menu. This was a disappointing "meh" experience. I was so excited to try this place, having read so many great reviews. First off, they no longer have the pork sandwich that got them onto Chicago's Best. Why? Second, the food wasn't really hot; the soup was ok tasting, but tepid and the cheese on the sandwich was barely melted. Third, added chips and dip after I'd paid for the original order, but they didn't put it together. Since I didn't check the order, I had to go back to get it. Irritating. Came by here for a quick lunch break. Got the pulled chicken sandwich it was very juicy and tasty. They have free Wi-Fi which was great to work on lunch. They also have a variety of sodas and beers if you'd like. I didn't get the potato one but did see others and it looked very good. SAD! :( Wanted to support small business and stop in town for lunch. I ordered el capo without capicola and onion. It had chicken, balsamic and mushroom. Had about three small slivers of chicken (look at photos) on each half sandwich and too little balsamic. I went in and asked for more chicken and they handed me a small tray of cold chicken. It needed to be repressed so it was warmed up. The whole process was a little confusing, we ate outside, but weren't told we needed to come back in for the order. Didn't supply utensils for our to go with a side salad. I understand it's a difficult time, but maybe a bit more effort. read more

For instance, I had the flank steak sandwich, which is topped with truffled mushrooms, gruyere, wine syrup, onion, and horseradish. Sounds delicious, doesn't it? Well, it wasn't. It was the blandest sandwich I've had in some time; a study in wasted potential. In addition, the steak was very thinly sliced, well done, and equally tasteless. Sawmilly is also expensive. 9 dollars is too much for an underwhelming sandwich. Further, sides of any kind are extra, which again, given the price, is pretty stingy. C'mon. Throw in a pickle or a few potato chips. The sandwich would still be lackluster, but at least this would create the fleeting illusion of some value. Once you know what you want just place your order at the register and have a seat. They will call you up to the window when your food is ready. We tried the Italian sandwich, which was overall good. It was not heated all the way through. I also tried the chicken and broccolini baked potato, which I though was really good. The pasta salad was also pretty good. Bathrooms were clean. I love this place! I work around the corner and eat here maybe once a week. They have a decent sized array of sandwiches and "spuds" which are baked potatoes loaded with all kinds of unique goodies. The selection is very gourmet. The flank steak sandwich and the spicy salami are my favorites. Lately I have been on a diet and thrilled that sawmills offers a salad option. All their spuds and sandwiches can be put on a salad (like with lettuce, carrots, and even tomatoes!) I have been getting the roast turkey with basil vinaigrette. While neither of these are deduct-a-star worthy I will point out that the price does reflect on the quality. It's a fancy sandwich at a fancy price. Also I wish they had more sandwiches that sound good on the lettuce bed for people like me that are hating on simple carbs. Other than that I absolutely adore this place. Decided to try this place again after a few years. They didn't pick up when I tried to pre-order. Went there and ordered instead and had to wait 20 minutes for a $10 sandwich with no side. The food is good, but nothing has improved for wait times. They are SLOW! FIgure it out, either speed up or director or a better way to take orders so people don't wait. read more

A charming sandwich shop recently opened by the owner of the neighboring Chew Chew Restaurant. Sawmilly has a small but excellent menu of delicious sandwiches and "spuds" (loaded potatoes). The Ham & Prosciutto sandwich and Angry Crab spud are a couple of my favorites. And do yourself a favor and order a side of their delicious fresh-made potato chips! The sandwiches are fine, artisanal quality with fresh ingredients, but the ambiance is really down to earth and Scott, the owner, is a great guy. A wonderful place to stop in for lunch! read more

I heard great things about this place. So I'm surprised I was disappointed. I ordered the Italian sub which tasted off. It felt like I was getting a mouthful of old roast beef yet there was no roast beef on this sandwich supposedly. I threw away the other half. Also got the bacon egg potato salad. Ack. What is that awful seasoning? It tastes like stale lemon rinds. Not fresh. I like fresh zest but one bite and it was recycled. I don't want to trash a local business but what I had was just not good.
