At first, we hired Thomas Roberts and his crew to renovate our master bathroom. My dad has disabilities and we needed to adapt the bathroom, which is small, to his needs. We had numerous meetings with Mr. Roberts on what we needed, my parents spent about 3 hours at his shop picking out tile and fixtures, and he put up so many safety bars and made the bathroom so accessible that dad, who mom and I have told not to take a shower without one of us being home, has been caught doing that numerous times. I wish I had before and after pictures to share, but CBR did a wonderful job with a small master bath. One night during the renovation we had a leak; Mr. Roberts couldn't come, but he sent one of his employees back who promptly figured out the problem and fixed it. CBR has become our around-the-house/fix-it go-to. They're not only bath and kitchen...they are everything in between. Our pool steps down to the backyard got crushed when a tree fell during a wild thunderstorm. Mom fought with the insurance company and the contractors they use until Mr. Roberts said, "We can fix those steps for you". It's a whole lot better than what used to be there in the first place (i.e. old rickety rotten wood). The last time Mr. Roberts was at the house was a Saturday morning. Yes, you read that right. Saturday. We needed some pool tiles replaced and it was the first nice morning so he decided to get some work done on a weekend. Afterwards, he and mom sat down to discuss replacing our front door, which is in desperate need, and we've been talking about it for awhile. Mom decided to bring up the kitchen microwave which has been broken for 2 years, and he promptly called a guy he knew who could help. That's the thing about Mr. Roberts...if he can't fix it he always "knows a guy". He even met my mom at a showroom to look at front doors with her and went to Home Depot with her, too! He's become a big help because of my dad's disability, putting up more bars and things around the house to make it easier for Dad to move about. Mom & I have taken up fixing things around the house, and Mr. Roberts has been helping us understand what to do...and teaching Mom how to unclog a toilet. After we conquer the front door, we are attacking the other upstairs bathroom which is an ungodly shade of brown and yellow...I can't wait! He has become our "family contractor" and I know we will have more jobs for him down the road.

They told us we'd need to fully replace the firebox and flue, and that doing so would trigger a series of code issues, recommending a full rebuild in the $15-20K range. This directly contradicted the seller's professional, who said the issues were easily repairable for closer to $7K. We eventually had to bring in in a third party, who confirmed the seller was right and said Ryan & Son seemed to be "trying to sell us way more than what was needed." We felt incredibly frustrated because we paid for clarity and guidance but ended up with more confusion, making our home-buying negotiations unnecessarily difficult. They were not in our corner, even though we paid them to be. A quick check of their Yelp reviews shows others have had similar experiences, so this doesn't seem like a one-off. I wouldn't recommend using this company if you're hoping for honest, helpful insight; especially during something as stressful as buying a home.

He changed the original prices in the contract even though he said nothing would change. Due to a problem he had with the electrician he fired, we had to pay additional money, well over $1,000 more for a new one. He made false promises of opening up our deck at cost so we could walk to the pool more easily. The worst part of the job was when he graded the yard. My yard was fairly flat. Now we have a pool that looks as if it's on a pedestal from the yard. He dug two trenches and claimed the dirt was not good. He kept trying to convince us to add a wall around the pool so we believe the trenches were dug and the yard was left this way to force us to pay him thousands of dollars more on a rock wall. We ended up having to pay additional contractors to try to fix it but it still is an eyesore. Once the final payment was made he never showed up again. He provided no instructions on how to work/run the pool, filter, pump, etc. He also left the pool with dirt around it, which turned to mud every time it rained and left the pool unusable.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Michael seems friendly, and as you can see below, these reviews…read more(aside from BBC shoveling a driveway) ARE ALL PHONY. Please note "Oh Michael helped us with our insurance claim" (but no real explanation of services provided) "Michael didnt damage anything" - Well, clearly you're covering up for something there! We are 8 months in and needed to call the police to document all the damage this company has done to our property. What started out as a $30k estimate for a kitchen renovation - is now at $80,000+. You want to know why? Michael will sell you a new kitchen, but it's all bait and switch. Once you think the project is paid for, you realize he may have charged you $5,000 for a new ceiling, but that was only the REMOVAL of the sheetrock - and now he wants another $5,000 to replace it! BBC's fees have been three times what we've been quoted elsewhere. We were told two old windows were a custom size, they needed to be special ordered - would take 5-7 weeks to come in and cost $4,700. Three days later we had a window company come by and say "No those aren't custom, we can have them here in 10 days" And what was the cost?? $1,700 - THREE THOUSAND less, for two windows!!?? Why was he charging us almost FIVE GRAND and LYING that they were special order??? We have had a plumber come and tell us the $1200 (3 ft) gas line they did was made from a bunch of pipe and fittings from Home Depot - they didn't even give us a nice continuous gas line. Everything needs to be redone!!! They show up one day a week, IF THAT. In 8 months, they have taken 114 (BUSINESS DAYS) OFF! So do the math, thats an average of 5-9 actually days of work PER MONTH. The final straw was Michael telling us unless we paid 90% of our final payment (when the work hasn't even been done and HE owes US money) that he would not be refinishing our floors that BBC DAMAGED!!!!! Please see these photos, they never covered our gorgeous original 1925 hardwood floors and dumped all their stuff on it without a care in the world! Throughout this entire process every time we would mention BBC to our close friends and family - they would be shocked and appalled at the kind of mess we were in. There is no way this company will remain in business for the foreseeable future with these tactics. Also check Angie's List for other bad reviews - don't believe what you see on here.
