I give this company the lowest review. I recently got my house resided by them with what I thought was going to be a "Certified Hardie Board" installation. I was sorely mistaken. Initially I spoke to a salesman, Brendan, who explained that all of their employees were "Certified Hardie Board installers," and that I "could just go with any contractor but we're certified!" So I signed the contract. Here's a day-by day recap of what happened next: Day #1 (Thursday): They took down all of my old siding. Day #2 (Friday): They put up a few panels of the new siding, 1 window, and 1 corner in the front of my house (which was put up already damaged!). On Saturday, my neighbor came over to see the start of the project and noticed MANY mistakes. He consulted his brother, an expert, who confirmed that the Keller team was doing it all wrong and NOT the "Certified Hardie Board" way. Day #3 (Monday): My neighbor came over to speak with the project manager, Ray, about the discrepancies, and Ray responded that, "this is how we do it." They were clearly doing it wrong, which we found out by speaking to employees of the Hardie Board Company and watching videos on company's website. At this point, my neighbor showed Ray and Manuel, the head worker, the videos and Ray responded that he "had never seen that video ." At this point in the day, they had put up 5 windows. They agreed to take these windows down but only if they could redo them with the SAME materials -- materials that had been compromised by incorrect installation. Because of the multitude of issues and the company's poor response, my neighbor then came to my house every day. (I am a 70-year-old widow and know little about house siding. That said, by now even I was now able to identify the egregious mistakes that this company was making.) We next realized that they were not setting the nailgun correctly (per the videos): the trim was being crushed because they were pushing too hard, leaving visible indentations around every nail. My neighbor confronted Manuel about this and again showed him the Hardie Board videos, and his response was, "I don't know what videos you're talking about." Ultimately, they conceded that this was a mistake but that they would just fix it with caulk and paint. This is clearly not adequate. First, it looks terrible. Second, I paid for the Hardie Board and the most expensive trim because I didn't want to have to worry about painting my house. It was absurd! They told me they had fixed all of the nail holes with caulk and paint - however when I went to the second floor to see if they had fixed there - they didn't! Not only did they lie, but they failed to correct the problem they created. They did ultimately paint and caulk all the nail holes - but again with PAINT which I NEVER wanted. A few days later my son, Patrick, came over and asked, "Mom, why do you have all of these holes in the bottom of your windows?" My neighbor returned to look at these holes (also called "flutes"). He then looked up on the Hardie Board website, which clearly specifies that there should be no visible flutes. When we asked Brendan about this, they said it was for "water drainage." This makes absolutely no sense: why would there be water draining behind my windows?! Keller and Sons REFUSED to talk about or fix the flutes. All they kept saying was, "your house looks nice." Once, Ray hung up on me when I asked if the workers were truly Hardie Board Certified installers and after that he refused to speak to me. I can tell you this post doesn't even include ALL of the issues I experienced with Keller and Sons. (I confirmed all of these issues by speaking with the official Hardie Board Company.) My concerns were mainly dismissed and Brendan and Ray would yell at my neighbor, who was only acting as an advocate. Clearly, I needed one. When the company "finished," they left nails, wood, and other materials all over my lawn. Also, during the construction process, none of the employees wore safety equipment (e.g., goggles, helmets, masks) while working. It is widely known that Hardie Board is made with silica and that the dust created during the construction process is harmful to breathe in. I am truly sickened by how I was treated and by this company's lack of integrity. I am considering a lawsuit to have my entire house re-done the correct way. We had George Keller's company over tom our home for a quote in one part of the the roof that had issues. Amanda was then sent over advised my husband the entire roof could be done for $20,000 plus any additional costs. My husband asked Amanda to please provide us with an estimate for the back section of the roof, which someone from the this company looked at prior to her providing this estimate. Amanda said it would take a couple of days to provide the Other estimate. We never heard back from her or received a quote so I called the company and first was told she was out of town and left a message for her. Still, no quote or a return call. I left several messages and this company never followEd through or returned calls. Of course, this left a bad impression and seemed like they only wanted to do the entire roof for $20,000 plus. If this is how a business treats potential customers, I would hate to see what they do with their work ethics! Disappointed! This is not how you should do business! read more

I really can't say enough great things about this company. We looked far and wide for a roofer when our neighbor recommended George J. Keller & Sons. Not only did they explain each step of the process in detail with an in-person presentation, they had numerous supervisors on-site each day to make sure the process was going properly. They also were extremely helpful after the install, answering any questions we had and even sending workers out to make sure all was right. Did I mention they were extremely competitive price-wise? They're great calling you back if it's to make a sale. If you call with a problem afterwards, they don't bother with you. What good is a 25 year guarantee if they won't call you back when there is a problem! After some wind, many shingles are no longer on the roof, but on my lawn. Our roof was leaking badly after a hard winter of ice dams. I called four different Morris County roofing companies to get estimates for full replacement of the roof. Of all four contractors, Dan Keller was the first and fastest to respond, most thorough in inspection, and fastest to return the estimate, which was clear and easy to understand. All four companies estimated basically the same scope of work and identical materials. Keller was hands down the lowest price for the work, as well as being the most prompt and responsive throughout the whole process. They helped me with the building permits and answered all my questions thoroughly and promptly. They provided rebids to show me different material options at my request with the same quick turnaround and thoroughness as the original. There was a little glitch during the scheduling process, I did not get a promised phone call from Mike to schedule and I had to call him to confirm that they were indeed coming ... sometime. But he responded immediately, professionally, kept me in the loop after that and they were on site within 3 weeks of the contract being signed. The job itself went smoothly and quickly. I was really impressed with the professionalism of the crew that came. They arrived a little early, set up and stripped off the old roof and put down the new all within less than 5 hours and done. I was pleased with the speed of the work and the attention to detail. Cleanup was well done and fast, I did find two nails in the yard upon inspection afterward, and a few stray bit & pieces of shingle fallen down here and there. I would have liked to have found nothing since they did highlight their cleanup process in their bid. But to only find two nails and a few tiny bits of shingle and insulation after ripping off an entire roof I think is pretty darn good overall! read more

George Keller came to my home for an estimate on a fence replace vs repair, with us having issues of tree damaged chain link and a dog that kept getting out. He had great ideas on how I could repair rather than replace some sections for cost containment and also keep my dog from escaping. He was there the day I requested, had a quote the following day via email, and had us scheduled within two weeks. The job was started and completed today by two very professional men and everything is perfect! I would highly recommend this team. I rarely write testimonials but I felt they deserved a fair review of how they do business. read more

I didn't have an issue with the work they did. I even recommend them because they advertise a $100 referral. The job referred to them was completed back in the beginning of April. The customer gave them my name and was told that as soon as their check cleared they would send out the referral check to me. After may went by 2 phone calls were made by the customer telling them that I didn't receive the check. No return calls from from the Keller office. June went by and on July 10th I sent them an email via their website, no reply even though it states that "someone will respond in 12 hours". I then left a message on 7/13 and I received a call back assuring me that a check will be sent out that day. On 7/20 I left a message and received a call back by the same person stating that someone was supposed to send it but she would now send it herself "right now". I live 7 miles from their office. I finally received the check on 7/26. Family owned business. Maybe you should hire outside the family. Now to see if it cashes. NO MORE REFERRALS FOR YOU! read more

Contracted this company to install new soffits on my ranch style home. They also wrapped my garage, and installed new gutters and leaders on house and garage. I had old wood soffits. According to another contractor who had first been out to my house the old wood should be removed before the new vinyl is installed. I asked my contact with Keller if that was true. After some time he got back to me via email and said " the proper way according to the manufacturers and all venting sense is to remove the wood and make sure the area is clear of insulation for ventilation..". When the two workers started I noticed they were not removing any wood but were installing the new material over the wood. I tried to reach Keller's office to no avail and sent an email to the rep who had been at my place and also didn't hear from him. A foreman showed up and I expressed my concern to him. He said don't worry ."I'll work with you". He instructed his guys to remove one ot two planks of wood which I thought as a bit of a joke. I should mention that I failed to have this matter addressed in the contract, which means I have legal leg to stand on. The work was completed and I've been told since that I don't have adequate ventilation now for my attic and that could affect my roof. Of course that also means I didn't have adequate ventilation before. The question seems to be was this job done right? I've been told companies don't want to do the labor. I would suggest if you want old wood soffits removed, insist that language be included in the contract! read more

Had them put on a new roof and it looks great. But also had all the gutters replaced and less than one year later, a large part of the gutter had pulled loose from the house. I asked them to come back and make the repair and I was given a quote that was equal to the price they gave me to do the entire gutter replacement less than a year before! The old gutters never fell off through hurricanes. This was just a regular rain storm! I had to pay someone else to fix it. (for 1/4 of Keller's quote) I can't recommend a company that doesn't stand behind their work. I'm still finding nails from the roof too. read more

Our historic home has cedar bevel siding, which had failed prematurely due to another provider's poor quality materials and workmanship. We hired G J Keller to replace the shoddy installation we had inherited, and to "do the job right" with new cedar material, which is precisely what they delivered. From the initial consult meetings/proposal, through the the scheduling, installation, closeout and cleanup, my end-to-end experience with G J Keller was top-notch. Every interaction I had with the team was a pleasure; with Dan (proposal/contract), Jaime (back-office/scheduling), Ray (project manager), Jesus (crew foreman), Mike (senior installation expertise). There were a couple challenging/tricky installation details on our job, and I felt those were handled by Mike/Ray very thoughtfully, patiently and creatively, with a high focus on making sure I was going to ultimately be satisfied with the end result. Across the board I found the entire staff to be accommodating, competent, responsive and communicative professionals who delivered a high-quality install, with great customer service, at a fair price. George Keller & Sons re-roofed our house and shed in July 2016. They did a great job start to finish. They used quality materials and the roofers were professional and work well together. The job took 2 days because we had a lot of warped and rotting sheathing to replace. There was no debris left behind. The price was fair for the work. Our representative was Mike Koty and he was honest and straight-forward. There was no hard sell and Mike answered all our questions quickly and professionally.
