Food Safari is such an influential show. First it affects you physically (my stomach grumbles and my mouth salivates), then it attacks your mind. We'd heard about Corner 75 before and their authentic Hungarian food, but Food Safari's theme of Hungarian cuisine only encouraged the nagging in my stomach and mind. We set off to find the place, located in Randwick.
Maps of Hungary, porcelain, trinkets, flags, everything Hungarian imaginable was attached to the walls. The place was definitely decorated with gusto. We had a feel for the place already. We ordered some goulash pancakes for entree which was absolutely divine, then my partner continued this trend by ordering veal goulash for main, while I stuck with a veal scaloppini and mushroom sauce. We also had a side of this tangy cucumber salad - sliced thinly and marinating in vinegar and mashed garlic.
Unfortunately I didn't enjoy my meal hardly as much as he did his. The veal was really tough and the sauce quite tasteless. At first he was disappointed he couldn't find Nokedli (he used to have it cooked by his grandma ten years ago) on the menu, only to realise it came with every main meal!
Dessert was divine - a nice sour cherry strudel topped with melting vanilla ice-cream which we shared and devoured quickly.
Service was attentive but not very friendly, we had a few half smiles here and there but that was pretty much it.
Definitely will come back to have some goulash for main. A meal here with entrees, mains and a shared dessert will set you back about $40 pp. read more
