I decided to try Zilver Restaurant at Westfield Bondi Junction as I love their other restaurant in Haymarket. Unfortunately beware of the high prices! I noticed that every dish served is charged on the dining card as a large portion. I asked the waiters and cashier why every dish is charged large when I have the same dish at their other restaurant and am charged medium size? They did not know why and just said that the restaurant has its own pricing. That's a shame as I now will only dine at the wonderful Zilver restaurant in Haymarket. On a recent visit here for lunch, I dined on Yum Cha. The service was quick and efficient (sometimes overly so), although the waitpersons spoke too fast, making it difficult to know what dishes they were offering from their trolleys. I and my dining companion tried several dishes before leaving. My only gripe is that I don't think that the price paid for the food that myself and my dining companion ate was worth the cost of the bill - the food is very expensive. However, in saying this, I would probably return to try more dishes on their menu. read more

Not what was expected and very commercialised at the Westfield. Staff just want you in and out, they dont care even when your bill is over $300 they just want the table emptied for the next customer. Food was average, I have eaten at many many Chinese Restaurants over the last 40 years. I have had Yum Cha & A la Carte here and the only thing I give a star for is that they have my fave wine here.. I am always a big fan of yum cha, no matter where and what time of the day. I do believe good food it need to be able to eat any time! So I went to silver this afternoon after movie, just right bellow the cinema at Bondi Westfield. It used to be Kam Fook reataurant, if I remember correctly. The did awesome transformation to make this Chinese reataurant looks more elegant. Mind you, that the food also not coming cheap! However, in my personal opinion, if you are a big fan, I don't think you should put price tag on the food you loves. Waiter offered me tea, which I don't mind for rainy weather like today. Since I was lived in China for some years, ( and also have Chinese blood in me), I do know some rules regarding "tea manner" on dinning table. So the pointy neck from your tea pot shouldn't be facing you or the guess on the table, old Chinese say it is hoping for some bad thing to happen for the person that "pointed" with it. I was but shock that they didn't notice this thing, as I'm not 'gweilo' I'm expecting they know this tea manner thing. Well, soup coming with $8.80 price tag, I know.... So Chinese, right! 8 represent a good number in Chinese myth. Tasting platter not so bad, all came in good flavour, the only thing is ( again, my personal opinion) need to steam a little longer, a minute I supposed, because I still can fill the rawness of skin that wrapping those dumpling. I don't often write negative reviews but this place needs a kick in the pants. Had a good dim sum experience here some months ago but the most recent visit, on a Queen's Birthday Monday, was grim. Moderately busy at 11 but service was in chaos, with service carts left in the middle of lanes, blocking other carts. We told the managers that things were not OK but their attitude seemed to be, "we don't care." Quality was acceptable but too many taro cubes in the pai kuat for my taste. After forty minutes or so of frustration, with only two dishes, we left for The Eight, which was super busy but where service was humming along with the efficiency I usually take for granted. read more

My experience is not for the traditional yum cha served here, but for their services hosting a Chinese-style wedding reception. Because I'm Korean and was in Vancouver, my husband (Chinese and Sydney resident) did most of the coordination with one of the managers at the restaurant to set up the event. Overall, I know my husband was pretty satisfied with their service, food offerings, and the coordination related to small details of the event. Only a few little hiccups-- one with respect to the private room in the mall many past couples utilized for the bride to get ready and change dresses and store wedding accessories in-- when he originally made the booking several months ago, he asked for the manager to reserve the room, but she didn't share until a week before when he was re-confirming some details that the room was already booked. Not a big deal, but due to that, I didn't do a dress change like originally planned. They offered to let me use the handicap bathroom they have instead, but that was a poor substitute as the floor was wet in certain areas and the lighting was dim. If I had still wanted to do a dress change, I think it would have been more prudent for me to change in the regular women's bathroom. On the day of the wedding, the employees were scrambling to locate the remote for the projector since we had pictures and a video to show, and later, they fumbled to turn on the sound, which took 5 minutes to figure out. Don't worry, it was before the actual reception, so it only took 30 seconds to fumble with when guests were actually there. As for food, it was pretty great! No complaints from me nor my husband. Definitely 4/5 for seasoning, taste, texture, heating, serving method. We tried a variety of dishes-- I think 8 courses of various traditional Chinese foods, and we didn't hear any complaints or grumbles of dissatisfaction. The server that assisted my table was excellent. Because I'm a slower eater, he was careful to let me finish my dish before picking it up, and when I was far behind, he would let me continue but wouldn't delay serving the next dish, preventing it from getting cold for the others. He was attentive to also carefully lay out all the dishes I didn't get to finish because as the bride, I had to make rounds. Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to others for events. read more

Zilver My husband and I took our 19 year son and his girlfriend to dinner at Zilver last night (a Saturday night). We all love food and regularly enjoy dining out. Zilver is relatively new after replacing another Chinese restaurant that was plagued with Council Health inspection failures but, despite this, we decided to give this new incarnation a go. More the pity that we did. I would have to say this was the worst dining experience we have ever had. The food was just ok, the prices too high and the service was absolutely atrocious. We had a reservation and were hurriedly shown to our table. Our waiter meant well but his running between tables, florid face, darting eyes all over the restaurant and rushed speech had me more concerned he would shortly drop dead with a coronary! He was the the most harried, albeit well meaning, of all the staff but the general mood would be best described as mild and disorderly panic. It was certainly no way to start dining at a relatively expensive restaurant for a Saturday evening. That was not the worst of it though. We ordered three entrees and three mains to share. The three entrees, one of them being San Chou Bau, all arrived at once and would not fit on our table. Never mind though as the staff just clanged all our table items together and squashed them in. This made it difficult to enjoy and the San Chou Bau, with no room to be served, was simply slapped down on the table. We were only part way through the entrees, although we were hurrying to clear some plates to make room on the table, and then the three mains arrived! One waitress actually tried whipping my husbands entree plate away, mid mouthful of unfinished food, so as to make room for the mains!! The hot platter of sizzling Mongolian lamb was left partially hanging off the table and right over my sons girlfriends lap forcing her to have to pull back and away from the table. All of the food arrived within about a 5-10 minute window which was totally inappropriate, especially for the types of meals we had ordered. It was a rushed session of eating relatively ordinary but expensive food in a terrible atmosphere of tension. We will never return to this disastrous restaurant. read more

The quality of food for dim sum is by far the best that I have had overall. Not too oily, reminds me of childhood eateries but in a nicer environment. Be polite and friendly to the aunties and they are understanding and helpful to suggest other foods to my tastes that I enjoyed. Eating dim sum for 40 years, it is definitely not stressful compared to other restaurants. As a weekly regular it has been consistent for the last 5 months when they took over. The senior waiters can be overloaded and pushy but their language skills are developing. We haven't tried dinner yet. read more

They didn't even know what I was asking for and some classic dishes looked and were cooked weird. well we went looking for what we had was a great chinese restaurant- but it was not to be. overrated & expensive ++++ 8 dumplings @ $24 and they weren't even impressive. peking duck pancakes were dry but the duck sang choy bow was ok. vegetarian fried rice was shameful- a bit of rice with a few vegetables thrown in- zero flavour the only saving grace was the chicken spring rolls we had to start, they were really delicious my advice to you is if you like good chinese food don't come here! read more
