A few things. A new owner has bought this resturant who had 20 years working as manager at Eaten Park. First thing he did was to downsize the coffee cups, Never there when busy on Saturdays or Sundays and a wait time to be seated around 20 minutes. After being seated, waitress told us that it would probably be at least 20 more minutes before we get our food because they were short staffed. Not a good sign especially when the new owner is home. My wife and I usually always eat there 2 to 3 times a week and were always pleased. guess thats going to change. read more

I haven't eaten here in a while and I must say im disappointed. My favorite meal hear was the potroast sandwich and mashed potatoes. The sad portions compared to previous visits was astonishing. Happened on this place when I was in Johnstown. Missed breakfast and didn't want fast food. All I can say is Outstanding! I ordered 2 pancakes with 2 eggs and sausage links. The pancakes were possibly the best I have ever had. The almost didn't need any syrup. The eggs were done perfectly and the sausage was delicious. Coffee was good too. Everyone was very pleasant. This is a diner hidden in plain sight. They present themselves as a coffee shop and if you drive by the strip mall this resides in, it comes off exactly like that. However, when hiding in plain sight, you can be whatever you want to be on the inside. Like I said, from the outside you get the feel that it's going to be run of the mill eatery. Once you get inside you see the true identity of this place. You get hit with the diner vibe as soon as you walk in. Bright red colors paired with the shiny chrome like warmth that evokes diner. Totally bustling, happy eaters, helpful staff. Came here with my nephew for a breakfast treat. I kind of already knew what I wanted, but of course I was obliged to look over the menu. They definitely have everything covered for breakfast. Just for breakfast along they have an extensive selection and you sure can mix it up here. To note, as I am defining this as a diner, they have a really great diner menu overall. Covering everything from sandwiches to the typical diner meatloaf meal, and I might say just about everything in between, and that is on top of the extensive breakfast selection. I went with the Sausage Gravy Over Biscuit, which I already had in my head to have. For my nephew he went with the one Hotcake with Sausage. Service was swift, it did not take too long for us to get our food after we ordered. The hotcake was a decent size and almost covered the plate by itself. Comes with butter and syrup to top as you wish. The sausage patty looked decent as well. As for my food, it hit me, and it hit me good. When the plate was presented it looked a bit messy, but I was fine with that. I wanted the mess, that gravy looked mighty good and even though it was about to drip over the side of the plate I did not care. The biscuit was perfect. That consistency where it was partially dry that allowed for the gravy to give it that right moisture and made me gobble it up. The gravy, my god, that gravy was amazing. Most places you go to and order this you get this little bits of sausage mixed throughout the gravy. But here, you get those little pieces, but you also get big chunky sized pieces as well. That made this feel more like a meal than anything else I had had for breakfast in a while. Y'all, I cleaned that plate, there was nothing left. The price for this early morning meal was ideal. For what you pay at other places for a sandwich and drink you leave satisfied here. Definitely on my short list in the area for breakfast moving forward. read more

While visiting the Johnstown area, my husband and I were looking for a breakfast location. I found out about this hidden GEM on Yelp! Its located in the strip mall that used to house Value City (many years ago!). Once inside I really liked the diner vibe decor! The waitress was very personable and the food was great! There are a lot of locals that meet her for breakfast. My husband was so excited to get scrapple! We don't see that down south really. :). I was happy they had sweet tea! My wife and I were a little late today for we decided on a lunch, and boy, were we glad. My wife had a grilled steak salad with everything in it except mushrooms. There were so much fooe we had to ask for a take-out box. I ended up having the serloin steak and asked for it to be cooked medium rare , came with a salad and a side of baked potatoe, had a hard time finishing it but I did. This is a very nice little restaurant that opens early (6am) and seems to cater to the early bird senior citizen crowd. However it is also very family friendly and clean . I take my son , age thirteen , and my daughter , age 10 , to breakfast here at least once a month . They have a delightful breakfast special for only six dollars that's quite filling and even offer whole cakes to go . My husband and I stopped here for dinner one night on a weekday night. It took us a couple minutes to get seated, but we didn't really mind at all. When we were seated however it took almost 25 minutes before a waiter came over to get our drink order. The frustrating part was numerous waiters at passed our table and said hello but nobody stopped. Finally won a waiter realize we have been waiting on she only stopped over and she waited on us the rest of the evening. For my meal I ordered the roast beef with mashed potatoes and it was very good I highly recommend it. We were finished with our meal it took about another 20 minutes waiting for our waitress to bring us the bill. When she finally came over she asked us if you'd like any dessert to which we said no but she offered it for free since we have been waiting so long. I won't complain with free dessert! If you're going to get dessert here I highly recommend the coconut cream pie, it is delicious. I've visited CCS a couple times now, and have had good experiences both with in-restaurant dining and takeout. This is your place for pie cravings in Johnstown, they have a ton of flavors and offer cheap slices or the option to buy a whole pie (I got cherry last time, it was simply delicious). But I also think they have an under-rated brunch. I got the CCS sandwich which looks and sounds like a simple breakfast sandwich... and I guess it is... but it everything I could want in an all-American comfort food breakfast - hot, cheesy, and filling. The homefries aren't my favorite style, they are quite basic and taste like cooked and buttered potatoes (I prefer something a little crispier). Synthia and I were shopping nearby and decided to give this place a try for lunch (about 1:30 PM). The results were, overall, disappointing. On the plus side: the young server was friendly and efficient. Their menu is wide-ranging, prices aren't horrible and they serve breakfast all day long (6AM-6PM). I ordered a grilled Reuben sandwich, accompanied by potato chips. A mixed fruit cup as a side and 16 oz. cranberry juice. Syn felt hungry and took advantage of one of their breakfast offerings: 6 oz. steak, medium well done, eggs over easy, hash browns and white toast. She also had coffee and a 16 oz. root beer. Another plus: I actually found my Reuben quite good. The chips were okay (good number of them filling up the rest of the plate and--in contrast to her experience--not overly salty). The fruit cup was also okay, if very basic: a couple types of melon, cut into bite-sized chunks. I like the tart goodness of 100% cranberry juice and as such found what I got a letdown. It was clearly the sort of watered-down beverage sold in supermarkets as a "fruit drink"--some percentage of real juice, but a lot less than the "real" thing. Syn's problems were more substantial. Her meal overall was excessively salty and somewhat greasy. She has frequent digestive problems, but she ate the eggs, toast (dripping with butter) and perhaps half the steak. Unwilling to waste food, even if not to her taste, she took the hash browns and rest of the steak home for later eating. But no, it did not agree with her back home, either. The coffee was okay, it seems and I'm not sure she actually tasted the root beer (she has an admittedly peculiar notion of 'balancing' the caffeine in a coffee with the non-caffeine in a typical root beer). Bill plus tax totaled $36.08. We did add a decent tip, cause Lilliana (the young server's name) was very pleasant, attentive and professional. But someone I know who eats there fairly often tells me they recently brought in a new manager. Looking at other Yelp reviews, early ones are mostly very positive but more recent ones had issues. Fantastic place to eat!!! I've been coming here for about the last ten years. It started with having breakfast with my dad here once or twice a week. Unfortunately, he passed away just before Christmas two years ago. But I'm keeping the tradition alive. It's a nice clean, bright place which has just been totally remodeled and has a very pleasant staff. Anyway, the food here is great, and the proportions are quite generous! Unless you're the state hotdog eating champ, there's no way you're going to walk away from here hungry! They also have really good daily, weekly, and monthly specials that are to die for. Most are traditional heritage dishes like pigs in the blanket, chicken and gravy over biscuits, ham pot pie, and so much more! Everything is just so delicious and prepared very properly, and served in a quite reasonable amount of time. No long wait times here! I love eating here, and I'm quite sure you will also. There are definitely better diners in the area, and this place has gone downhill. We came for an early lunch and got poor service and food. Usually counter service is a fast option; not when the waitress looks at you and then takes her time slicing and arranging cinnamon rolls rather handing out menus or offering drinks. When she finally got to us, I ordered a club sandwich with fries, mayo on the side, and my companion got a different sandwich with chips. The sides got reversed (not the kitchen's fault, the waitress entered them that way, based on the check). There was no side of mayo; when I asked for some I was told, with some attitude, that it was already in the sandwich. When I asked it I might get some anyway, I got a glare. There was no apology for reversing the sides or forgetting the mayo side; she just silently watched us trading the items. The club was not good. Usually a double decker sandwich has meat on both layers; not this one. There was a single thick slice of dry turkey on the bottom layer and a low quality slice of American cheese (the kind that tastes fake). My companion said his sandwich was "okay," which generally means not great, but I didn't taste it and can't say for sure. I waited and waited for a single drink refill. Finally another waitress said she noticed that my glass had been empty for a while, and would I like a refill. Her kindness was very much appreciated. There was a long wait for the check and no thank you from the waitress. Unfortunate, since attentiveness and a smile would have made the sandwich quality and mistakes less memorable. read more

I love hole in the wall Mom & Pop coffee shops, IF they have good food and service... Remember Mel's Diner? This was retro like that but so much bigger and brighter but talk about attitude! Laying on my Mom's kitchen table was a take out menu for The Corner Coffee Shoppe. I opened it up and noticed that she had quite a few things circled, a grilled reuben, liver and onions ( yuck ) and a slice of coconut cream pie. Well two out of three sounded good, so I asked my brother and sister in law if they wanted to join me at Ken's the next day, breakfast worked for them and so we went. On the outside it reads The Corner Coffee Shoppe, but when you pay your receipt will read the same but with Ken's name in front of it. The place is huge with booths and chairs of red vinyl and metal tables with formica tops. There is a long counter to one side with swivel stools that are screwed down, picture the longest counter you have ever seen. Being close to Valentine's Day they were decorated very tastefully but it was an abundance of hearts, silk roses in vases, red and white lights everywhere, heart shaped wreaths, you could not have put up one more decoration if you tried, they even had them hanging from the ceiling. Before you reach the long counter area on the right there is a large reach in refrigerator with homemade cream pies and lemon piled high with meringue. They also have fruit pies galore, egg custard and pumpkin. They have ice cream, milkshakes, sundaes and a soda fountain and many homemade cakes, apple dumplings and Boston cream pie. Stop right there, I give them five shiny stars! I would not think twice about getting a dessert to go and admiring their coffee shoppe. The baked goods are all homemade and phenomenal! The pies and cake slices are like a fifth of the pie or cake and gigantic pieces and only $2.19! Now for $8. and change you can buy the whole pie or cake, what a bargain, but I wanted to take home a variety for my sweet toothed hubby to try. Okay now we get to breakfast and the server we had. I had a large tomato juice, they had coffee, my sister in law and brother ordered western omelets and home fries. I wanted to make an egg sandwich, my way, so I ordered two eggs scrambled with cheese adding onions, green peppers, mushrooms, an English muffin and a side of mayo. I also ordered a side of the lousiest bacon I have ever had in my life. Three strips of tissue thin sliced deep fried lousy bacon. I asked for onions and green peppers in my home fries and they were good.. Oh my gosh TJ's world came crumbling down and she shouted at me, " You can't do that, they will never let me put this in the kitchen, they will ask me why I ordered it and rang it in this way!." I wanted to say get a grip TJ, I'm ordering breakfast not putting in an order for one thousand shares of Cisco Systems! I explained to her what my intentions were of building my own sandwich and she said "get an Omelet" and so I did! I reminded her that I wanted an English muffin and she piped back, well you did not say that as she scribbled and rewrote, ugh. For a fact I said it cause I even asked my brother and sister in law if they wanted a muffin or toast, plus before wanting an egg sandwich I inquired as to whether or not they had english muffins. As she was walking away both my brother and sister in law asked what was her name and I said " attitude" and they both said uh huh! My omelet arrived so brown it was not even funny and I said oh my gosh the eggs are burned, my sister in law happens to like her eggs hard and my brother was starving so they just ate it. The server totally ignored my announcement, so I went about making myself the worst omelet sandwich I have ever had, the pepper and onions were raw, no attempt was made to cook them yet my eggs were brown. im not one to complain as i have worked in the service industry myself but this was the worst experience i have ever had. when we were first sat it took awhile for anyone to acknowledge we were even there and when we finally got to order we sat and waited for an hour while everyone around us got their food (they came in after us and me and my boyfriend both ordered a basic meal) when we finally got our food it was ice cold, i didn't get my sausage, i found a hair in my food, and the waitress brought the check not even 5 minutes after we got our food. overall just a very disappointing experience read more
